Yeah, HMRC saying it's careless means they didn't think they could prove it was deliberate, but they could prove that he chose not to get advice or not to follow it. That's what negligence means when you make £30m, what you're supposed to do is chuck a grand or two at a tax accountant and do what they say and then HMRC can't say you were careless because that's the most they expect a non-accountant to do.

He's been caught red-handed and has resorted to legalistic obfuscation in the hope of getting away with it.

I understand the strategy behind dodging questions and bridging to what they really want the takeaway to be. But I feel like so much of the public is sick of the refusal to answer basic questions. I have to wonder if a change in that strategy might actually be good for the Tories.

I will admit, this video does make me feel a little sorry for Chris Philp, I bet deep down inside that souless shell of a politician even he is thinking that Zahawi is massively corrupt and the Prime Minister is too shit scared to go back on the deals he made to win the leadership battle to sack anyone. So he is given an impossible task of trying (and failing miserably) to gloss over it, trying his hardest to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and knows full well not one person is believing a single word of it.
Feeling sorry for him only lasted a second though! They are all liars, cheats and dishonest. They keep calling each other 'my right honourable friend' yet there isn't a shread of honour in the entire building!

Thats because you a critical thinker and have good empathy levels. I would have more respect if I thought that before and after this interview he was talking to other Tories and taking steps to do something about it. It looks like there is no internal discipline and it is only when it is made public that there are investigations. Tories remind me a lot of the Republicans in the US. I think that to remain you have to buy into the corruption or be totally divorced from the average persons struggles. I am sure they would probably say they remain to make things better. How well will a principled person actuallly do in the current party ?
