Speaking as a Wing Chun person myself we don't always think like that. That is a misconception.

Sifu, how about fighting someone who is always drawing their arms back, like a boxer? It's pretty difficult to be able to have this "sensitivity" from contact if you don't get solid contact like you would with a WC/grappler, and instead face many jabs? Thanks.

Same concept applies. Even with arms retracted, you aim to stick to them and dominate their center.
I find boxers are good at re-emphasizing basic WC concepts: chasing their center (not limbs) and sticking.

    Dear Adam,
Thanks for the great series. I have a comment which may sound a bit critical, but that is not my intention - I just want to understand the material better. When you answer the question that is posed in the beginning of your videos, you usually show very fast responses. For me (as a viewer in my lazy chair at home), it sometimes feels like you are overwhelming your opponent by sheer speed. Could you perhaps show more examples where you let your student intentionally 'win' by performing the action you have just demonstrated, so we can see the techniques and skills at a bit of a slower speed, so it'll be more obvious that it is not simply speed that lets you achieve your goals?
    Keep it up!

The responses were slow enough as far as physical speed goes. It is very evident Adam uses sensitivity to react (thus the responses are fast in terms of reaction speed). But to really understand this, you need experience in sensitivity training (be it grappling, wing chun, tai chi, etc.). If you want to see physical speed in action, watch Bruce Lee or Tommy Carruthers (the demos, not the movies).

Generally in all my clips, I am talking and moving in the sametime, not using full speed. I will make a reminder to slow down more . Thanks for the feedback .

You're videos are very educational and informative. Just curious, what is your Wing Chun lineage?

Think 🤔 of this, then possibly comment; or even better...make a video on the fact that you don’t have to be balanced to strike back at someone effectively! Especially when striking the center line(eyes nose chest solar plexus groin)! The UFC is so effective inside and out of the octagon because the most devastating thing in fighting is surprising an opponent! Unpredictability in the moment is paramount.

Find a good teacher. Seems to me it is very difficult. So far you are the only good teacher I can visually see and your integrity plus philosophy feels good. You present a feeling of trust. I watched you other video were you wanted to get taught by Ed. He taught you in his house. If somehow you could teach self discipline as a first step to training that would be great. Convenience I think plays its part in training. For instance I would much rather see if I could get taught by you fly over to Vancouver with a passport. This is no good because I am established here in this town. In this case if I was in my 20's it would feel more doable.
Another thing is a partner to work with. It would be great to dedicate my time to learn new healthy habits.
Now I have no transportation. I am figuring the best I can do is your website. I need to then also be inventive on how to apply physically what you teach in a sparring situation.
I noticed times when you have said when practicing take downs. Some need to go at a certain speed.
Well I have a lot of work to do I think. At the very least when I watch your videos I want to the best ways according to my capabilities. The stick fighting from Philippines. I like what you teach. Not sure my abilities or lack there of can do some arts or styles.
At any rate if you could help me to know what I can learn for defence that would be great. I can no longer run away. Would rather not carry a gun. I have a fused ankle on my right leg. My right leg also has metal all the way up into hip from fused ankle. I am working on healing my 2 ruptured disc's. Working on a program to strenghten my core muscles. After this I will know better what limitations I have. Rather not have surgery.
Thanks again! Even if you are unable to help someone in my position I understand. I still like watching.

Why do wing chun fighters always think that they will be attacked like wing chun? Only children think that way.
