@@lane_blvd I think because of the story she wanted to tell. Evermore was a fitting closer to the album but the bonus track were a fitting closer to the BMR drama. Right where you left me is the tragic tale of a woman so overwhelmed by grief that she can't move on. It's time to go is Taylor deciding to move on and remake her work. The next two releases would be remakes of Fearless and Red

She wrote Tis the damn season (my fave) when she finished filming the pound session. She went to her room and Aaron that she was sleeping. But she came drunk at 3 am with the whole lyrics and melody. She wrote it drunk

'I sit and watch you...' from 'Tolerate it' is the most heartbreaking ending of the song. Because she knows exactly how reletionship should be, how she should be loved, how EVERYONE should be loved and still leaving the person who only tolerates you is so difficult to do because YOU love this person with your heart. But fortunately often people have strenght to finally leave this kind of relationship. And then, we have 'Bejeweled' 😃

Yes you got it right! The bridge in Coney Island is about her past relationships:
Taylor’s pov: “were you waiting at our old spot in the tree line by the gold clock, did I leave you hanging every single day”- could be about Taylor Lautner (back to december: she apologises to him in the song)
male pov: “were you standing in the hallway with a big cake happy bday”- Jake gyllenhall (the moment I knew: him not showing up to her 21st bday)
“Did I paint your bluest skies the darkest grey”: John Mayer (dear John: you paint me a blue sky and go back and turn it to rain)
“And when I got into the accident the sight that flashed before me was your face”: Harry styles (the infamous snow mobile accident: probably from Harry’s pov since it’s the male artist singing here)
Taylor’s pov: “but when I walked up to the podium I think that I forgot to say your name” : Calvin Harris( when Taylor won a Grammy for 1989, she mentioned in her speech how she achieved this milestone alone and failed to mention/thank her then boyfriend Calvin Harris.

    • @robertthompson7242
      @robertthompson7242 Год назад

about your last point: she finished writing 1989 in 2014 just before the final (Asian) leg of the Red Tour; she recorded it and it had an October 2014 release. Since she didn't START dating Harris until March of 2015, he didn't actually have a thing to do with the success or non- success of the album. He might have felt slighted, but that'd be on him.
Oh, another possibility for "were you standing in the hallway with a big cake" could also refer to Lautner; in BTD, she does mention that _she_ didn't call _him_ on his birthday . . . . . but, all of this assumes it is, in fact, autobiographical. Which is . . . . . . .maybe. Oh, Taylor's "waiting in the tree line" suddenly reminded me of "heartbeat on the High Line" in Cardigan! Gotta tell my mind to stop looking for parallels before I surrender to insomnia -- again Cheers.

I love this album. I think as a fandom, most of us, have come to the conclusion that Folklore is a better album but Evermore has better songs.
I also lost my grandma who raised me from the day I was born and was the only constant in my life until I was 17. When I tell you that Marjorie breaks me, it tears my soul in more ways than I can count. I still adore that song because it speaks of a pure and unconditional love. I have always believed and will continue to believe that she was my soulmate and I’m so glad that we loved each other so much and got to spend so much time together.
I just love your reactions and how attentive you are to the lyrics and parallels to other Taylor songs. Also, fun fact, Taylor loves true crime so that only makes No Body No Crime even more special. I also cannot get enough of real life crime series and Criminal Minds.

What you said about evermore (the song) is so accurate. I've been struggling with depression for years and I found the first two chorus to be my daily internal experience. That's why I was so moved and emotional when, after a lot of treatment, I finally could relate to the final chorus. That was a beautiful journey for me throughout this song alone

So I love Dorothea, it's just such a cute little song and it always makes me smile when listening to it but also (I don't think it's actually confirmed so I guess it's a fan theory) there's a huge connection to Tis The Damn Season, listen to them back to back and tell me it's not from both perspectives of the couple like she did with Cardigan, August and Betty

oddly enough, I always thought it was talking about how, during the pandemic, her main contact with her friends was Facetime.
A tiny screen's the only place I see you now
And I got nothing but well wishes for ya /// reminds me of Selena Gomez calling Taylor up from her cooking show to show off her burritos.
      Selling dreams
Selling make up and magazines //also reminded me of Selena and her Rare line of products.
      Skipping the prom
Just to piss off your mom
And her pageant schemes // while I know Taylor went to proms (after all, her first boyfriend was a senior), she didn't go to her own (so MTV did a contest and she went to someone else's). Taylor homeschooled starting in 10th grade (radio tour). I don't know enough about Selena to know if she skipped a prom? Or, just adding a bit of fiction. ymmv

She told us she made up all these characters that she's writing about on Folklore/Evermore... but the part she left out of that explanation is that she clearly created characters she highly relates to. She uses the stories of the characters in 'Tis the Damn Season/Dorothea, Tolerate It, Cardigan/August/Betty, and others to write about her own experiences in 3rd person while taking some artistic liberties to add some details that didn't happen irl to her. And she made this abundantly clear with some of the stories in Midnights, especially, and that's so sneaky of her! Like, 'Tis the Damn Season and The 1 relate to Midnight Rain, Tolerate It and Champaign Problems relate to High Infidelity... it's so beautiful how she uses fiction to describe feelings or scenarios she's been in while keeping the details of her personal life private.

in no body no crime: Este is Este Haim, a singer friend of taylor who does the chorus, taylor is the killer in the song... she avenges her friend. Taylor actually has a license to drive a boat, which is why she sings on the bridge: : "good thing my daddy made me get a boating license when I was fifteen" = she throws the de4d body into the water... a mastermind.

As a little inside in fan theories, people speculated that no body, no crime, dorothea and tis the damn season are connected with each other.
'Tis the damn season is the perspective of Dorothea, who tells her history with the guy from (the song) dorothea. And there is a line that goes "messy as your truck tires".
The guy‘s perspective is presented in dorothea, who is maybe married now and has an affair with her over the holidays as stated in her song.
And lastly, no body no crime. It‘s the song of Este, the now-wife of the guy. First he kills her, then Dorothea comes back and pauses her life in LA. What could be convincing here is a line that goes "and his truck has got some brand new tires".

Closure-Artistic masterpiece [for effort/innovation]. Sound of machine vs. Piano instrumental, parts of the sounds that ought to come together to sound pleasing to the ear=Big Machine, Scott, is working against Taylor and what she stands for, gone is any hope for a harmonious relationship. “I know I’m just a wrinkle in your new life”=he took the money from selling her music, a new life excised from all of her blood, sweat, and tears. “Guilty, guilty”, *sung in a rhythm like a judge calling out something whilst banging the gavel in court*=he and Scooter have been found guilty in the court of public opinion, Taylor will not absolve them of guilt on the surface when her victim impact statement still rings true for her and the majority of artists robbed of their life’s work. “Reaching out across the sea that you put between you and me”=he’s responsible for the rift between them. The hurt caused by Scott made her cry a sea, putting a constant source of pain and a reminder that his bandaid apologies won’t heal her trauma and her original music is something that he can never return to her.

Closure to me fits a category of taylor songs in which she discusses themes that could potentially bring a lot of anxiety or triggering thoughts. So I link the industrial sounds in closure to the continuous beeping throughout peace and the desperate “my my my my” in death by a thousand cuts. When she does this with the instrumentals to me it means anxiety. I have no proof to back up this interpretation, it’s just way these 3 songs make me feel.

and here I thought it was the sound of the breakdown of Big Madhine, and the collapse of her once good relationship with Scott Borchetta. . . . but she's a poet so it probably means everything.
iirc, the percussion on that track was Justin Vernon? but I don't think he sang on it. hmmmmmmm yeah, Vernon did drums, and his Bon Iver producer BJ Burton helped produce it. So, blame it on them 👍

i had to pause and explain this bc u were slandering dorothea and that's unacceptable in my books
dorothea and 'tis the damn season are a pair
dorothea is from the guy' perspective and tis the damn season is from dorothea' perspective
dorothea and this guy were childhood friends "the school that used to be ours" "do you ever stop and think about me when we were young"
and they both happen to fall in love with each other later on
dorothea always dreamed of getting out of her hometown to a bigger city (LA) and being famous "a tiny screen is the only place i see you now"
and the guy knows and supports her "and i got nothing but well wishes for ya"
she now after moving to LA and getting the fame she always wanted pays visits for her hometown every once in a while where she meets her ex lover when they could "call it even" OR get together and he calls her "babe" but only for the weekend that's why they both know it's no use in doing so cuz dorothea doesn't live there anymore and he doesn't want to hold her back from continuing to achieve her dreams that's why he never asked her to stay "i wont ask you to wait if you dont ask me to stay"
the "i wont ask you to wait" could be taken in the context of dorothea not wanting this guy to be stuck in love with her and waiting for her to come back everytime BUT wanting him to move on with his life and find someone else
on another note i think dorothea after she moved to LA never made true friends she called him "so called friends" and the guy kept reminding her of his support and love for her "if you ever tired of being known (fame) for who you know you know you'll always know me"
yeah if u pay attention to these details in the second listen u can connect the dots and it's a very sad beautiful story
