I thought no blast dash would make me set funlance aside, but its new combos and mobility are so great. Plus the sharpness and scaling changes with shells ... what a dream!
Dear Cao, i tried the gunlance in wilds. ( i played GL since mhfreedom2) It feels like a new weapon, especially that the large swings now have different speeds. The weapon is better in almost every aspect. I am having trouble with the double burst cannon combo, it's hard to land it on the monster sometimes. It will take time to learn the timings for the attacks I can't wait to try long and wide shelling abd see how differently they play. Thanks for your videos.
I've learned the hard way that using the WSMB at the wrong time can get me killed with how committal it is, lol! But its such strong new combo finisher, there's no denying it's important to use correctly for optimal damage. Loving how much the Perfect Guard mechanics help out Gunlance on the defensive. The fact that the guard point frames of a reload allow for Gunlance to set up perfect guards even while already blocking, makes this one of the better weapons to take advantage of the mechanic, second to the regular Lance.
No word mentioned on Charged Shelling. It feels... weird. It does deal more damage then the burst fire (at least the shelling part) and more then the basic shelling. 9.5, 10.6 and 15.4 (I think, can't remember the exact numbers) At 5+ charged shells you get quite a knockback and recovery animation so it does seem "optimal" to always aim for 4. (may change depending on knockback res/flinch free etc.) You can still: charge shell -> quick reload -> charge shell like you could in world and it potentially deals more damage also. I wonder how Long and Wide will behave and also what the deal was with the other stat now that shelling level is gone. Hope is that the Charge shells and wyvern fire will behave differently depending on Type. Normal shells are also all about positioning now since you auto hop towards the input direction while shelling. this is a lot easier when using focus-mode. This can therefor be used to always keep up pressure or evade incoming attacks. Wonder if it scales with evade-extender. I've been told that shells now scale with atk up? Kind of disappointed by that, as it now means to play "optimal" you gonna also have to cram atk up into a shell only build. Hope there is a "spiced powder" kindoff skill that allows GL shelling to apply status/elemental dmg.
Problem is that in the demo took waay too long to charge and you could only cancel it with evade. I'm going to suggest either being able to keep the charge after evading or at least allowing us to guard. With long and wide having less shells to charge should be a LOT more practical.
@@caoslayer With less shells the Full Wyrmstake Blast Combo might also become less attractive and the old style of slap -> burst -> reload -> repeat might become more attractive. I'm genuinely interested in how Long and Wide will behave. I hope that the Wyvern fire for Wide or Long is just ONE hit instead of a 4x instance, as this would give GL a wakeup hit. I could also see the other types having only 1 Wyvernfire (or more) I've always been a Long enjoyer (insert that's what she said joke here), In World I enjoyed the Charged shell supremacy, despite the jank of the Wyrmstake slinger injection thingy ma-bob. (which was a pain to insert but after it was pretty smooth sailing) In rise it was mainly just Bulley Barrage your way to victory and going flying across half the map. Lastly i wonder if there are some changes to Artillery. In World it gave you Wyvernfire cooldown recovery In rise it made your Wyvernfire start at 50% (so essentially the same) In Wilds, Wyvern fire Cooldown is decreased by attacking and otherwise recharges VERY slowly. (you also have 2 instead of one) So i wonder if Artillery will further boost cooldown recovery by attacking or reduce the passive cooldown (or even give you a 3rd Wyvern fire?). (or maybe that will be a part of magazine).
Excellent video. I would love your opinion on output damage, especially compared to some of the other weapons like Charge Blade. I feel like shells should be buffed very slightly. Like in the beta they hit for 10s. If they went up to 12 before any buffs, I think it would work.
@@caoslayer That's a great point. In the real game by the time we fight Rey Dau we'll have vastly superior gear and possibly different Gunlance shelling types. I'll work on being accurate. Any tips for managing the focus mode camera/aiming?
Coming from maining regular lance it feels like wilds is bridging the gap between the 2 weapons. I like how it now has some of lances reaction based shielding. Was going to main lance until i looked into the details of gunlance and capcom addressed most issues i had with it in world.
I'm happy with the Gunlance changes, but my god i hope they fix the PC performance, the demo was so choppy and lagging, even on my computer that can run most modern games on 4K, seeing the forums i'm not the only one so i hope they take the months before launch to really polish the perfomances.

It’s a beta. It’s normal for betas to be like this. They have plenty of time to improve performance and it’s not at all uncommon for this to happen in a beta. I wouldn’t be worried right now
Gunlance is also insanely good now that we have 2 weapons at once. You can do a full combo into 2 wyrmfire's then switch to your secondary weapon. Picked the heavy bowgun myself for the full-auto mode that is pre-charged just like the Gunlance wyrmfires.

How do you just slam the lance down and full burst? I’ve been having a hard time figuring the inputs out for it.
