- We stopped by Chino Hills just before the winter NAMM show to check out the battery rehearsal - and they were kind enough to arch it up to throw down some exercises and a short segment of their 2018 show. Needless to say, we were impressed! A little chilly, but definitely impressed. It was only the middle of January, right?
Do YOU want to be great too? You know it's all about the sticks...

1:15 that tenor player just standing there while his drums are retuned is actually so relatable
Gibby graduated and they got Tom Holland to replace him
never heard Tom Holland but at one point he got compared to luke from modern family
And rice gum made the line
His name is Zach
@@shaanfliesplanes I am aware, thank you for the reply from a comment I made 3 years ago before he said he didn't like being called "Gibby"
Ini main drum
that flub line has some serious chops. Mapes is making beasts at chino hills
That moment when there flub line has better chops then most people will ever have
Lil kid on the end is killing it
Anyone else a little sad that gibby graduated?
mikey galvan yup
He’s on the babeline now, so it’s ok
Sebastian Gutierrez wait he joined blue coats? I figured SCV or even BD.
DapperShatter he's with pulse.
DirtyZak He's marching with the Bluecoats this summer
Holy shit it’s January
Its actually February
What if I told you that 1/17/18 (when they played this) was is January?
Roasted
What if I told you I was being sarcastic because theres no possible way a video filmed at night could be released during the day on February 1st? I bet you are real fun at social gatherings
@@rimenuir910 you know February 1st has a night too...
Saw these guys last year in Dayton, Ohio. Freaking amazing! Keep up the good work!!!
Why do all the Chino Hills center snares do that head tilt to the left thing?... Martin did it and now this kid.. Hahahahaha
They are only a high school. Why are they this clean
j fman000 they gods
Man, this is all they focus on. It makes me wonder if they have marching percussion and concert percussion as a separate course. I personally think that would be genius. They also probably have their percussion director working at the middle schools that feed into Chino Hills, that way they come into high school with chops.
Jadon Harrison maybe. Chino hills is a pretty big group
start them out early
john mapes is litteraly their perc cap head, kids are good but have basically had dci level instruction since middle school
Please tell me the far left snare is a freshman
chandler moss kid looks like he's in 8th fucking grade😂😂😂
chandler moss he's gonna be a mad beast by the end of his highschool career
Esai Perez ik, I'm hype for the future of Chino hills ip
chandler moss he is, ryan hill
I know the feeling. Im 5'1" in 9th grade...
Their flub line is infinitely better than my high school’s snare line
Low-key the snare captain looks super cocky.
lmao joe aint
So true
I was gonna say that too
Omg I’m glad I wasn’t the only one
not cocky hes just confident
I thought they had a bunch of girls on their snare line this year? Or was that last?
dog de la frog That's probably Ayala you're thinking about
dog de la frog yeah, last year Chino had all guys,
I'm more impressed by the flubline.
D Adam that one girl tho 😍😍🔥
@@sabrestormy4056 Her name is Tay Houston
The second exercise reminds me kind-of a exercise the Monarch play called Sir-Flams-Alot
Carlos Hall Thinking the same thing dude lmao
DirtyZak _ Don't it though....I want to learn these exercises
Dude if you want, i have the music of Sir Flams A lot.. i can send you
Mike Snare Defiantly man...My email is carloshall37@yahoo.com, Thanks
I've sent it , tell me if you received.
i like those new suede heads
What drums are in the back (not the bass drums)
Victor Reyes those are called flub drums homie. Or marching toms, basically they help train younger marchers who want to transition to snare/tenor in their later years
They are all great drummers. Very talented.🥁
Was she on flubs last year?
Logan Knight yes
I went to the wrong high school smh
What a difference finding makes.
i forgot gibby graduated
So im not the only one who thought he looked like Gibby!
I thought my drumline was good...
Oohh the things i would give to play for chino hills....
phcasper We talking fortnite codes here?
D Adam yeah all of the drumline has only 1 testicle
4000 dollars
@@chrisn9116 dang is it that much, damn
Why are 2 of the flubbs traditional and the other 3 are match?
Skyler Williamson because those players are training to be on the snareline therefore they play tradition I only know because I watched a video about it
Anrick Smith okay, thanks!
I thought my school was the only school with tradish toms, apparently not
🤣 0:30 wow logic got a serious tan and i didn't know he played the drums.
Isaac Davidson wow, he does look like logic xD
Imagine being so good that as a high school line: colleges, wgi groups, and lower level dci groups look up to your level of playing and showmanship.
imagine being rich enough to go to chino hills. it's money. there's a reason why they have future professional athletes in their sports programs and future professional musicians in their arts programs.
Why a flub line you can't even hear them? Why are some using traditional grip and some not on the flubs?
Y'all are gonna be uploading the full show runs right?
And this is a highschool?
Why are they so clean wtf
Adam I. Barrett not really but it's pretty good especially this early in the season
Ian Grom stands in front of them too!
Drumline, the best sound in the world
Are those prototype snare batter heads?
Drumline Enthusiast, They’re Remo Suede Max batter heads.
Does anybody know where to find the sheet for these?
They're so smooth #Precision
What exercise do they play at 0:46 and is there sheet music for it?
Thats our singles exercise, No sheet music for it though
what warm ups are these?
I couldn’t have been the only one that thought it said “sono chi no sadame high school”
JoJo fans unite!
i wasnt the only one
Sounds good, my only question is why the flub drums?
Nick Green why not? Some large bands that have excess people trying out for drumline use flubs to put anyone who is newer at battery to get them started in the right direction
My question is why are some playing traditional on flubs? You normally play matched.
The female was on the Snare line during marching season and I believe the male who's playing traditional was as well. So maybe just keeping up on their traditional chops during warmups and then during the show music they play matched.
another question I have, is were do they get them?
they are custom made by request, and every brand should be able to make em. Honestly it's more or less just a drum 4 for tenors most of the time, maybe with a slightly different cut, and using different heads.
why are those snares there behind the tenors? I've never seen something like this so I was just wondering
Flubs basically training snares
@@Ryanasuarusrex oh ok thanks!
They have aimbot
Simon VanderWall lol
damn lmao so true
what's up with the toms players? some of them play match and some play traditional, and they play match on the field?
Some of the toms are snare or tenor players.
2 are tenors, 2 are snares, and one of them is bass 5
would this be the one instance where the band is way better than the football team at a game?
Jed Juarez definetly
My school
What is the name of the center snare?
Mike Snare I bet he’s one popular kid eh
probably!
joe lueken
Alex Hale he actually is, judging from his instagram
He thinks he's all that
Shoutout to the guy with the Woodward sweater, respond when you see this lol
wtf are the green snares for
What’s the point of the other drums behind the tenors
It's a training tool.
Used as a way to improve their skills so that they may move on to playing snare or tenor in the future. Like said above ^ training.
Bruh even their flub drummers are on point. Wtf is this?!
what are the exercises called?
First one Singles, second one Flams, Third one FP rolls
@@farm3rtree thanks!!
Anyone have sheets for the first exercise
Well I’m glad my school and theirs are on the same page drill wise so that’s good
Stone what does that even mean
Stone If you're saying Chino Hills still doesn't know their drill just show music, I hope you know they had their first performance on this past Saturday
What warm up is at 1:30
FP Rolls
hooooo center snare grew the fuck up
1:30
They did a bunch of rolls just to make it sound like more notes.
megan arrudas That’s because making them rolls does in fact result in more notes
A...high school.
How the fuck are they this good?
carmel shirt on the center lmaoo
Y r there snare players on diff drums playing match?
Benjamin Waddill those are snares in training
Now they have Tom Holland’s Peter Parker on snare (far left)
1:26 rip tenor combo that played past the cuttoff :|
Pretty sure that was just the drum tech tuning the quads.
dude I know this along with a good number of high schools are taught to be this good and its a shame that so many people including myself are at schools where they don't care about their percussion programs, where they are given music with no direction, handed sticks and drum expecting to know how to play without any help from anyone except each other and their knowledge from god knows where. It really sucks for all the people that want to go into college or future continuing into drumlines and have no instruction outside RUclips and trying to figure it out themselves, and the only challenge they are given is the music provided at school which typically isn't much of anything and it makes is near impossible or gives no ability to get beyond the skill level that these kids were at when they were starting freshmen year. With that being said this drumline clean as shit and makes me sad how selfish the director is at my school where we don't have bass stand or wraps for our complete set of jimbao drums...
jacob sartorius plays snare at chino hills? wtf
0:13
i miss the bass 5 from men are from mars :(
ummmm. I'm confused as a former drumline instructor......
They got Miguel Diaz to quit karate and join flubline
Wet
LEMELO
Tasty
Gibby moved on...sad.

why are tempos always over 140 bpm? i marched in the 90s, loved the 80s, and tempos were slower, until Cadets vs Star , Wars...where tempos went up Up UP and UUUUP!!!!!
you cant play PHAT and Groove like 70s Funk masters at high tempos....You get the check pattern fast 16th Notes SQUARE , VANILLA, Stuff (Dont want to be racist)
You guys need to listen to SCV in 80, 84,87-89,91. Tom Float lines 77-88. and Cadets 89, 94....They play PHAT!!! no 16th note check patterns ...just Funk, Latin Funk, and accents and FLAMS!!!
i heard 4 flam drags that were dirty and probably mis attacked. I know ENSEMBLE for a HS, has improved drastically with MORE CATS , from DCI, having to find jobs all over, so that has improved.
But doesnt anyone FORENSICALLY ANALYZE THE HISTORY?
ALL THIS comes form Cadets vs. Star, Wars, of 1989-1993, where Star lost , and quit, because they bought up all of Cadets instructors to beat Cadets, and they lost in 1993.
This is the fall out, of that...CLEAN BUT SQUARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone else noticed that these guys have no life, but just drum. Like get a job, or wait they may be rich and get money from their parents but dont appreciate what they earned. But just the whole point that I'm trying to say is why try so hard in hs, just have fun while you can.
It’s fun to be good at an activity they like
Also just because the school has money to afford good shit doesn't mean the kids are rich either. It's the same situation at my school. We have a very good school but lots of us in out school are poor af. Including me. So why do you gotta bash them for this shit. Let them have fun and do what they love the most you asshole.
