“A useless life” Charles de Foucauld

- Charles de Foucauld (1858-1916): a pioneer whose message has lost nothing of its force and relevance today. We have to get away from those pious caricatures which present him as a rich, dissolute young man who was suddenly overwhelmed by the Grace of God and then became a hermit in the Sahara (which he never did). Our film reveals him as our universal brother hesitatingly stepping out into the great unknown where each of us can try and go further towards the strange and the stranger - ourselves included - as we seek to follow Jesus.
At this time of increasing exchange between different cultures and religions, the message and life
of Charles de Foucauld - as told here by John-François Six, a French priest and a recognised specialist who is head of the Charles de Foucauld Association - provide a striking illustration of some of his favourite words from the writings of St John of the Cross: “Show love where there is none and you will harvest love”. That is why Foucauld wanted to be one of the first to visit the last.
“Charles de Foucauld's spirituality", writes Father John François Six, shows a particular tenderness, in this, the third millennium, when the wind is driving groups and individuals to take up arms,
to become impregnable - a tenderness that reaches out to all who have been wounded, to both men and women.”
Ever since then, this message has brought life, and continues to bring life, to hundreds of men and women throughout the world - be they priests, nuns, monks or lay men and women.

Matthew 25:40
"Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."

My story begins like this, I see the Lord's hand from the time of my conception in my life, My Mom wanted to abort me, I was saved due to the efforts of a Doctor who is a Catholic Nun, All my childhood memories are flooded with how I searched for God, I was very much involved in all religious activities but I still did not have the real peace in his heart. I often wondered, “After all these religious ceremonies which I am performing every day, am I in right relationship with God? Is he drawing closer to me? My earliest encounter with Christ was big image of the Sacred Heart, I always felt called by Him, During classes and even at break I used to look at Him, the day His eyes met mine, He never left me, I still was a stauch Hindu, I wanted to overcome my karma by performing devotional rituals, but fear of death and reincarnation had overcome me, the words of Christ to Martha has set me free " I am the Resurrection", I followed Jesus right from I was 11, I was hated by my family and relatives for my faith in Him, but the Lord was gracious enough to take me into His fold when I was 16, I was baptized along with my Mom and maternal Grandmother into the Church. Jesus my Savior, my King my all in all changed my life, there is no meaning to life without Him.

Lovely story but I wonder sometimes really how much " help" missionaries do...some spy,some exploit some go to live in peace but as a burden to community or long term guest not as a teacher feeding actual poor, like building wells, giving away sewing machines, and farm tools which is what they need
