WW1984: "Don't make wishes, wishing is bad, even if you wish for world peace." Raya and The Last Dragon: "Trust everyone, even people who clearly should not be trusted."
"has someone betrayed your trust to the point that they've cause bodily harm to your loved ones? multiple times??? _trust them_ do it _just do it come ooooonnnnn_ "
The moral of the story: No matter how many times Disney stabs you in the back, stabs you in the butt, stabs you in the face and stabs you in the wallet. Trust them.
I saw the film with a friend of mine and honestly... the whole “trust” message they are telling wasn’t well executed because literally rayas father literally trusted an entire nation of people he ends up getting shot with an arrow on his knee, which we all knew it was coming after they constantly nailed in the head that the world is broken. So I felt nothing from that, and the same with the antagonist girl that “befriends” raya and surprise surprise she betrays her. And then sisu believing and stupidly think that same person that raya trusted would honestly trust her which we all know what was gonna happen next. I just felt the message felt not very executed well and it was just lacking consequences of the people and their actions that they caused and they gain no problems at the end. I didn’t like this. But I could be the only person who felt this about this movie.
Yeah, the trust message was executed really, really poorly. Sometimes not trusting people especially when they have betrayed your trust is okay. Telling kids to force people into a friendship and to force trust onto people who have been toxic is just really awful. The antagonist girl should've been a classical Disney villain.
Thank you. Thank you Thank you. I felt the same way after viewing it today. Blind trust is an awful message to give kids. I was so happy that I watched beforehand alone and not with my son. I was appalled a little actually.
Seriously!! She betrayed her as a kid, then Raya sends her the amulet as a peace offering, then she betrays her AGAIN by trying to .. Take the dragon hostage, then at the end Rata says "I'll take the first step" and has to trust her AGAIN . I don't understand the message: just keep trusting in and believing people who repeatedly hurt you? Wtf?? It would have been a LITTLE better if Namara was the one to suggest putting the pieces together first. MAYBE.
But at the end when she had ALL the pieces they show her about to just LEAVE THE CAVE AND SHE HAS TO THINK ABOUT IT which shows that she hasn't even learned anything up until this point!!!

I can't believe Disney made a movie to teach kids to trust strangers even if they stab you in the back. Kids don't have to learn that, kids already trust too much, kids need to learn to be more savvy and hold people who hurt you accountable. I was confused at first too that I had to rewind the movie like 3 times to understand what the hell was going on. From watching that same scene where she shot the dragon, apparently raya didn’t trust the other woman with her dragon because of everything that happened before leading up to that event therefor leading raya to “accidentally” clipping the other woman’s weapon, helping and shooting the weapon and killing the dragon. It happened so fast and the scenes after that scene felt so rushed that it didn’t help me to process any of it. And dismissing every movie as "bad" because there is no character arc (because that is the modern consensus on social media created by people that aren't even experts on movies or storytelling) is bull stool. So every story needs an arc shoe horned in because otherwise some internet experts will say it's a bad story? That being said, Raya had an arc. She learned to trust and obtained the victory because of it. If you agree or disagree with the morality of it is another subject.
The message of trust is butchered because of the antagonist. The first time Rayah trusted her she ended up wanting to steal the gem and causing the Caos. The second time, after years of hunting her, Rayah gives her a pendant showing she still wants to try and it ended up with the dragon being shot. The third time, when everyone sacrificed themselves by turning into stones, she tried to run away even before putting the gems back together. How is she even the victim when she sees her mother petrified, all of the kingdoms except the market and hers almost everyone got petrified. Rayah lost everything because of her! It's unnerving how this message is simply "learn to trust" when every time the dragon, who was the one preaching it, tried to be friendly she got captured, and ended up dead.
Thank you. Make it make sense. Namaari totally spoilt this movie for me. They should've never redeemed her. It took away from the emotional impact that this movie . She could have been such a badass likeable villain. I in no way felt sorry for her and her redemption was poorly executed. She even turned around to blame Raya for Susu death as though she wasn't the one with the loaded crossbow ready to fire. As though she and her mother weren't responsible for the countless people that were petrified. I so wanted to love this movie.
It’s pretty easy to fix the script by you know not having by not having her be the bad girl. I mean she goes with Raya and unknowingly leads her mom and her army to the Gem. She tells her Mom about Raya having the Dragon and the gems and her Mom kills the dragon while trying to steal the pieces. You have one too many antagonists in the movie.

@@TheDragon97king Note that the "boat situation" is a script device, the writer put a boat scene just to let the dragon show off its power, while the scene adds nothing to the story and without it, the story is the same. Great stories have scenes and consequences that are very much tied to the characters. You can replace the dragon with a trustworthy person/diplomat and resolve the interpersonal issues in the same story. Great writing incorporate what's special about the situation with what's special about the characters in a unique way where one can't work without the other. Most Pixar films excel at this.
That's the point. They established in the first minutes that the dragon gem isn't some super powerful item. Then later they explained how its the power inside everyone that has the ability to change the world, not just relying on dragons to solve every problem.
The main question on my mind is why at the end the dragons were able to come back after combining the stones but they weren't able to come back originally when the dragons combined their magic
It was obvious. The villains appeared from human deception and fighting. The dragons being united wasn’t enough, the only way to truly destroy evil was to get humans from every land to trust each other

Replying to the replies, not the OP. There’s really not much correlation between Kimba and Simba. The closest is the 90s remake Kimba movie that came out after the Lion King I believe. YMS has a massive video about it. It is closer to Hamlet than it actually is to the original Kimba series.
@@TDM1138 - Thank you! Like as I said the directors themselves (who I believe also wrote Lion King) revealed that they based the story off Hamlet which those around me who know of the play have confirmed to be true. I'm very interstested to see the behind the scenes of this movie as it does feel like there were some things reworked and even the original design for Sisu was VERY different from what we see now-she had MUCH more frills and more pink to her, but with the pandemic, I think they decided to go with a simpler design for the dragons. This was all done on HOME computers, which can be daunting. I was crying halfway through the movie. The look of hope in Namaari's eyes when she sees Sisu. Raya lost her Dad to the Druun. She doesn't believe in the dream of Kumandra until she finds faith within herself. Later, Namaari wants to make the world a better place, but doesn't believe in Raya's dream of Kumandra. Raya makes the ultimate sacrifice by giving the Gem to Namaari hoping that she will do the right thing, turning to stone in the process. Namaari was going to leave them behind, but decided to sacrifice herself as well. With the Gem put back together, magic spreads throughout the land creating a cloud that purifies everything below, turning everyone petrified to life again. It has equivalencies to real life - we are all Human, and we are all one and the same. We disagree on how to make the world a better place, but we all want the world to be a better place.

You can replace the dragon with a trustworthy person/diplomat and resolve the interpersonal issues in the same story. I personally really enjoyed this film. I thought it was the best animated film since Frozen. I think the reason you don’t like it is because you aren’t the target demographic for it. There are plenty of movies that are strong but I don’t personally like because I’m not the target audience.
I’m with the camp that as long as something is well written, it doesn’t matter who it is for. Wall-E is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen and it’s a kids movie. I’m curious to hear what people have to say about this movie objectively with no bias
I’m not so sure. I don’t think I would ever enjoy a fast and the furious movie no matter how good it objectively is cause it’s just not made for me. I actually don’t really like Wall-E. Raya is for sure the stronger film in my opinion. Technically everyone does have a bias though. The number one rule in history is that all sources are bias.
@@AussieDisneyGirl That is true is that people can like anything regardless of its actual quality, but I disagree with you on the bias part. I believe movies have a quality standard that they can be judged on and that you can set aside your bias, if you let a person watch The Room and The Godfather back to back and asked which one is written better, they will always say The Godfather
We are going to have to agree to disagree then. I believe people can try to eliminate their bias though. But even if they try it is still there regardless.

The moral in this story was strong but the character arc and the growth in this was so underdeveloped, I kinda felt like they were trying to top this film over Mulan because u know how we see the dragon trying to do the comedy (which was kinda bad I feel like the actress needs to develop her comedy) it reminded of Mushu,( a little dragon who has well executed humor, but obviously you have great experienced comedian Eddie Murphy). The film was enjoyable but some characters interactions weren’t interesting and didn’t have proper growth like Mulan or other characters did. I feel like this film would’ve done well if they didn’t make the dragon a comedy, instead could’ve took this film seriously which would’ve made the film great. And obviously to me since we have 3D animation, it doesn’t feel like the magic that Walt created but oh well he’s not here anymore so there things that will be different.

And imagine designing a ton of dragons all sorts of different colors, and colors WITHIN colors....yeah I can see why they went with a more monochrome look for the dragons. It looks good though.
