me with a canadian accent not knowing the difference : 👁👄👁
I’m American, honestly I don’t know the difference either
@@twinkiedinkskating851 They do sound a bit different. The Australian sound a bit more "rough" if that makes sense.
jr4chargers
I kinda get the difference now. Australians kinda don’t kinda don’t say Ts and other letters as much as British, and your right
Tell me aboot that “badum tss”
@@jr4chargers They sound rough because all the lower class people who couldn't do well for themselves in England went to Australia for better opportunities
I mean as a Brit, I’ve always thought the Aussie accent was a mix of Cockney,Midlands and North all rolled into one. With the most dominant being cockney.
With a lot of Americanisms thrown in
You obviously have the Hollywood/Jeremy Clarkson mythology of an "Australian accent". Per capita, the best English, on average is spoken in Australia, more precisely in Perth and Adelaide. True but true.
@@RyanLye1975 is that because the settlements of Perth and Adelaide were settled by the more predominant classes rather than the convicts?
It is lol
The prosody of General and Broad Australian are closer to Received Pronunciation than Cockney, but the phonemes are closer to Cockney.
The inflection of the Australian accent gives a feeling that they are always happy even if the meaning of the sentence is otherwise.
haha lovely observation! I'm sure they'd be happy to hear tHIS! (did that sound happy?)😜
I can bet that you both used aussi accent in mind while writing #“did that sound happy”?
Thx I'm from Australia and Everyone seems to smile while being mad xD
I am from Melbourne and spent 2 years in London - Nottingham and every local thought I was one of them from the very first day. When I told them it was not so they mostly did not believe I was from Australia. I had to always explain that not all Australians sound like the average Queenslander
I've always thought Australian accent sounds like Midlands and cockney mixed
cool
I’m a Queenslander and constantly have Americans asking if I’m English when I’m over there because they don’t realise that not all Aussies sound like bogans 😂
Agreed, the Queensland accent is so much stronger than other sates. Other states sound a little more British while Queensland sounds very Australian.
Why Queenslander? The heaviest Aussie accent I ever heard was in Melbourne of all places, at Flinders Street Station. The fellow was an employee of the station and when he told me to purchase a myKi card, I wondered what is this "marquee" he is talking about?
10:01 she could be a voice actor ngl

This was the loveliest, the most joyful and cheerful video I've seen lately. You've made my day so much brighter with all the giggles and beautiful laughs. Loved I was tempted bit. Scottish ladies were absolutely gorgeous. Australians have won my heart. Soo bloody brilliant, so damn good! ❤❤❤😘😘😘
Whoa ok relax, bud. They're not celebrities lol.
Americans watching this video thinking they're the same accent:
👀
👃
👄
To be fair, there are a lot of similarities. Until around 4 years ago, I had trouble distinguishing them.
I’m always thinking that British accent and Aussie are the same when they talk, or is that just me🙃! (excuse my language)
interesting to hear Sahar. You are not alone. A lot of non-natives do find it hard to tell the difference and when I lived in America, Americans kept asking me if I was Australian so I'd say the average American cannot tell the difference between us but nearly all Brits and Aussies would very quickly detect this.
Real English With Real Teachers No i’m American I can clearly tell the difference. I think what confuses Americans is the term “mate” since you both use that term.
Real English With Real Teachers most Americans think of a posh accent from like Harry Potter when they think of a British accent so since most British people don’t talk like that they do get Australian and regular British accents confused. I notice that if i don’t concentrate on the accents I get them confused.
Not really Im British but Australians sound closer to Americans.
No they do not sound at all the same
The Australian accent is similar to a south east England accent with some cockney features....easy for us to emulate accents of that area, we're not that far removed. It's clearly different to any other British accent but also close enough that it would be easy for us to mimic many English dialects. I guess we speak some kind of fusion Brit accent, kind of a British variety which isn't found in Britain lol.
The ladies from Scotland are cute😄
And they were fantastic at the accents...
As a non-native speaker and English learner, all your videos are like a great find. It would be great if your videos were in audio format so that you can listen every day to improve listening as speaking. Thank you guys for your videos and work. Believe me, this is priceless and very useful for English learners ;)
Thanks a lot!
Never mind! I am working hard on a podcast called The British English podcast. It's coming soon...real soon!
I can't wait!
We really appreciate your work and all your efforts
One of the best videos you've ever done!
Much love Danilo. Thanks so much for that.
@@realenglishwithrealteacher4777 It's a pleasure!✌
I'm from Australia, and I gotta say, after l watched this I noticed more that the accents are a bit similar, not the same of course, but you can notice lots of similarities, and because of that all American I speak to ask if I'm British.
Australia belongs to the Aborigines.
Funny thing is Australian’s can absolutely pull off decent British accents but it’s very difficult for Brits to do a remotely convincing Australian accent
Australians cant do a "British" accent they can do a "received pronunciation" accent. I think most Aussies would not even understand Yorkshire,Scouse or Geordie accents.
@@lightfootpathfinder8218 Nonsense
@@mdee8784 have you ever heard a Geordie accent ? It's really difficult for a lot of people in England to understand never mind people from outside the country. Also I stayed with a few Aussies when I was in Cornwall and when myself and my friend started taking to each other in our Yorkshire accents the Aussies found it quite difficult to understand. Granted the Australians in this video did pretty good south east English accents but they would struggle to do a northern English accent
@@lightfootpathfinder8218 Australia has a huge British migrant population with well over 1.5 million Brits living here. We encounter and interact with all types of British accents without trouble.
Don’t forget we are British by blood with many still being only first or second generation Australians, so many still have British parents or grandparents from across the UK.
We also watch countless British tv shows which are set all across England including the North,(cop show Vera set in Newcastle) is a favourite of mine) Scotland and so on.
Our ears are very accustomed to the varied British accent. Not saying all Aussies can understand but most will. Anyway it’s all love we love the motherland still don’t worry mate! 😉
@@mdee8784 that's interesting 👍 ...it just annoys me when on these videos it's says "British accent" and its always a south east English one! ....I'm glad to know most Aussies don't think we all sound like dick van dyke lol
Australians and English speak so similar, I even thought Bluey was an English show only to realise it was Australian 😂
Nice video! Traditionally the British royals would probably have said "Oh Philip could you please refrain from leaving the lavatory seat up?", because "toilet" has its French origins. 1:45
All English has a little bit of French origins so not sure what you mean
I saw this video.. and I found that Australian accent the pitch is always raising, with some American pronunciation too. Also, that they speak a bit faster than British. Good video, from Barranquilla in Colombia. Cheerio!
Came here form Chan and Felix Stray kids! Im British btw
Yess im half aussie half british stay ❤️
@@mollymilburn damn are u dual
Asking Scottish people to put on a British accent like Scotland isn't a country in Britain XD
This channel is amazing! Congratulations
I think either british or aussie is almost the same at the same time. and it’s pretty easy to those (aussie people) do the british accent.
Honestly it's not that easy. Maybe to say one sentence. But if I had to talk the whole day in a British accent, I would screw it up
Australians sound closer to American to me
@@angel1050 I'm offended
Icey fall same
@@angel1050 HOW???I'm Italian and at 1st I couldn't tell the difference between British English and Aussie English because they both have some common pronunciation rules(that I HATE!)that Americans don't have, for example, they turn the final -er of words into an -a(example"forever"becomes"foevah"),and when a word ends with an R,Americans pronounce a smooth R,while both English and Australians cut it out completely(example"far"becomes"FA",which is A FRIGGIN MUSICAL NOTE! I also heared a man saying "BA"instead of"Bar"in an Australian short film)and,in general,British people(meaning English,Irish,Scottish AND Australian)all sound the same...too posh when they talk"normally"and too"yokel"when they have a thick accent...Americans don't sound like that *AT ALL!*
A lot of commenters here are confused between the Standard British English accent and regional accents of the UK. When you say British English it ALWAYS refers to the standard RP accent, NOT regional variations/accents.
British accent? Which one? Cockney? Cornish? Bristonian? Essex? Birmingham? Manchester? Scouce? Lancashire? Yorkshire? Cumbrian? Sunderland? Geordie? Glaswegian? Edinburgh? Perth? Dundee? Cardiff? Swansea? Etc.
Thing is Britain has so many accents there’s no such thing as a English accent. Take the London to the Newcastle accents they couldn’t be more different from each other.
I'm sure differences exist, but to us none British they all sound very similar and the differences honestly are minor aside from maybe North English accents since they sound similar to Scottish accents.
@@baibac6065 No. The Scots sound like us.
But the posh accent is quite universal.
though i know both countries have different accents in different areas i'd say australian accents are considerably closer to a southern english accent than any american accent is. in fact when i was a kid back in the 70's pre internet i could not tell the difference at all. even now sometimes i have to wait well into the sentence before i can tell the person is australian and not english. i've had arguments with people who say it's AS different from english accents as american accents but to me that's ludicrous. to my foreign ear australian especially broad sounds like a mix of cockney and birmingham / black country whereas culltivated sounds very RP.
a friend of mine lived in oz fer 2 1/2 years and only recently came back to L.A. and he said for alot of younger people they are really starting to sound american which he found very bizarre. he also says many australians are extremely unhappy about it which is understandable. and he said it's not just vocabulary the accent itself is really becoming americanized amongst certain speakers mostly people below age 25 or so he also said many australians get really irritated if you mention that out loud. the english apparently are seen as more like family whereas americans are true outsiders and so their influence is much more "threatening" shall we say.
As an American, I feel the reverse scenario is a Brit or Aussie listening to people from New York and Boston and trying to spot the difference.
Love how they are completely ignoring the fact a bushfire is happening in the background - hence the helicopter with water bucket.
It's much easier to do a British accent than to pull off an Aussie accent.
Cool story
I don’t even think I can do an Aussie accent and I am from Australia 🫢
to me austrailian accent sounds more crunchy than british accent
I remember asking this couple if they were Australian and they were surprised I could tell. Said most just assumed that they were British. I’m from the southern US and I can usually tell the two apart though not always.
Very nice and loud start of video
British is edgy and clear while aussi is more strong like American But sound way more nicer . I like both depending on the person voice and in which part of the country he grow up
Funny thing is, standard English can be spoken in a regional accent, according to many experts. Its avoid informal language in the spoken channel.
Think a lot of the Aussies nailed the pommy accents
Spoken by a convict who’s never met any actual English people
Sometimes I can’t tell the difference between the British and the Australian accent, it’s not as distinct as the American accent.
Correct this video is rubbish and I am British dating a Australian lol
When I was in New York the constantly asked me if I was British so you might be right.
I can distinguish British accent to Aussie, thanks to Peppa Pig.
Lol same
I’m not a native English speaker and honestly I can’t hear the difference between English and Australian accent.
Received Pronunciation (RP)
I think it's really easy for most Australians to do a British accent. My Australian is really close to British as I annunciate quite clearly.
But why is it so difficult for the brits to do ours lol
@AngloGirl85UK haha amazing.
You are right. I've heard other europeans say that too.
It’s really not actually
I could do Australian easily. I'm a working class Londoner.
If they speak cockney then it's easy. Most Britons don't and has this negative stereotype of cockney speakers so they'd probably don't really want to speak it lol.. Australians even copied the rhyming slang feature of cockney and made aussie version out of it.
Ain't the same! I mean they're really similar
I love aussie women, hi Sheila's 👋
Filmed in my hometown of Wentworth Falls 😍
Lucky! It seems it would be such a beautiful place
So l grew up learning American and British words,lm going to England soon bc my dad says it’s gonna get out of hand after 1 or 2 years in honk Kong,l don’t know how to say the accent bc l don’t usually encounter people who speak British on RUclips, hopefully l can learn British better there,my cousin and his wife had already gone there and we just have to sell this house and get everything ready and we’re off, also l don’t know about my dog staying there,it’s gonna be cold or maybe too cold for her

I've always seen Aussies as "Tropical Cockneys".
How could you possibly know about Skippy...That was ages ago! Ha ha ha Wonderful location guys!
Australian accent seems a lot higher pitched then a British accents
Their accent sounds like a “country” American accent mixed with a British accent
Miss you guys
Lovely scene and lovely accent! Thanks.
Why were the Scottish ladies being asked to try a British accent? They already speak in a British accent - Scottish accents ARE British accents, as are Welsh accents. What you should have said to them was that you wanted them to try to speak in an ENGLISH accent ie from England. Britain and England are not interchangeable. A British accent is any accent from Britain, so from England, Scotland or Wales, which is very vague.
You are of course correct Susan good point. I think on the day we were simply surprised that we met some Scots and forgot to reword the accent label. Hopefully you can find it in your soul to forgive us for this mistake.
A Southern English accent.
Which British accent would that be then?
Exactly. Idiots. There are at least 20 accents in Lancashire alone.
I think he was asking Aussies to try and immitate the most famous British accents, namely:
*RP
*Cockney
11:00 Richard Dawkins!
Of course they can do it, they're very similar
You watch mr bean and you smart british accent.
I thought the guy at 7:37 kind of Australianized it by adding -ies to cigs at the end lol
The important thing to remember about Aussie accent is that ivvrytheeng izzuh qwischun?

There isn't such a thing as a British accent, do you think a guy who grew up on a rough inner city council estate in Manchester is going to sound anything like somebody who grew up in a 5 bedroom house in an affluent part of Cambridge? No of course not, plus you're including Scotland, norther Ireland and Wales in this and we'll as england and not of the accents sound anything like each other lol
I still cannot find the difference
people say i sound british even from australia or american
I like the video very funny
Ask Victorians
I could probably do RP. It is not much different from the way I, my family and friends and most people in Perth speak .. except for English persons newly arrived who mainly speak with a trashy London accent. Or .. much much WORSE. The English, I find, are not very good at speaking English.
