This song is about never giving up, never giving in and always to "don't look back"! LOOK FOWARD! God I love these empowering hits from the 70s and 80s. Today the music is all about girls, money and cars. A shame.
This song changed my life. I was a dropout working in a factory. My life sucked. The line that says "Now I see what I am is holding me down. I'll turn it around" made me take responsibility for my actions and become who I am. I am now well educated and professionally employed. Life is great. Sometimes one grain of sand can start an avalanche.
+Evil Roy Slick funny, this song also changed my life, and inspired me to grow up and become a man. I was going through a bad break up. This song is always inspiring to me, as I now see how far I have come. Good music can touch the soul.

I just sent this to my wife who I spent 17 years suffering severe narcissistic abuse. I’m healing, and I’m done. I can see beyond the horizon now and I am free! 🙏
Those guitars! So melodic and harmonious. Tom Sholtz is pure genius and Brad's vocals were the perfect compliment to this band's style. Such an influence they were for me and were one of those 'ahead of their time' groups.
This is the quintessential ROCK music of my adolescence! Nothing makes me feel more alive than the sound of the instrumental riffs of this song and in Bostons music in general. Damn! it pumps me up and brings me back to the best times in my life! Then you add these perfect lyrics and here comes the waterworks of overwhelming joy and elation! Thank you thank you thank you! Just what I needed, again!
i'll always remember the first time I heard this song. I was 14 years old and my older brother was blasting it on his car radio. title says don't look back but I always look back to that day when I hear this song
That's exactly how I heard it my older brother! He passed away last week and I've been listening go all his favorite songs! Frying but it's a good cry.
Definitely! I think it's the best rock song ever recorded. The drums too. I recall an interview Tom did explaining how many days, weeks and months he spent working just on the drum parts for this song, and how much 2 inch reel to reel tape he cut and taped to get the drum parts the way he wanted. If you listen to the drums in the song you can appreciate what went into getting them just right.
Thank you Boston for continuing to save my life one blast of music at a time! Sitting in my car at 1:39 on a Tuesday blaring this song as loud as I can brings me back to when I knew I had the whole world at my fingertips and 35 years later no matter how hard things seem this song tells me I'm still gonna be just fine. Anyone feeling me?
It's the most powerful moment in the song between what the instrumentals and the lyrics and story have built to. I wish I could feel as strong day to day, moment to moment, as I feel when I hear this part of the song.
One of the greatest songs ever written. It is about renewal, rebirth, and leaving behind your past to find a new life. "Oh I can be stong, Oh yes I can!!"
Back in the 70s, Boston was lumped into what's considered commercial arena/album rock, along with Journey, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, etc. Compare this with what's on the charts now in 2021, I prefer the 70s each and every time
@@marcuscarden6607 Yes! God I wish all of us Boston fans could just get together and blast this music as loud as thunder through the speakers feeling the collective energy and unspeakable Bliss. THERE'S NOTHING ELSE LIKE IT!!!
@@dirkpittthegreat4559 Amen to that! You absolutely have to blast it. Especially at the instrumental part at around the 3:15 mark. It sends vibrations all through me!!!
Moving from California to Iowa and a truck I've Come to love had all my belongings, except for a suitcase worth of clothes, had to be given away because of unforseen circumstances. My sister sent me this video knowing I needed to hear it. Every word fits my situation so perfectly. And yes, I too have never understood what they were saying until now. WOW how it's so clear now!

Tears in my eyes. Every. Time. Thank you classic rock for enduring the test of time. And still bringing the old message of hope our parents and granparents listened to in the 60s 70s and 80s
Don't Look Back ....This song is so inspirational to everyone !! A song that sends a great message on how to live your life !! It sure worked for me !!
I can't even tell you know as a full grown woman what this song still dies to me this day. Back then I didn't understand what these feelings were. You better beleive I damn well know what those feelings are now!!! Anybody wanna jump on the back seat lol!
I had a spiritual awakening a few years back, and this song popped on the radio right at the perfect moment. My life was in such turmoil then, and I was in the worst rut in my life. So so glad to finally know the lyrics, and no wonder I loved this song when I was a little boy.
Looking back at your life is no problem, as long as you realize that this is an unchangeable period in life. When this past, takes you to "darker places" all the time, depression can make it's move. This song tells us, that there's always a new road to travel and...to leave the past behind. Great spiritual song, with a stunning sound!
Sometimes people ask me how I'm doing. I'll say "Oh the sun is shinin' and I'm on that road!" Of course they don't know what the hell I'm talking about, but Boston fans know!
"Now I see what I am is holding me down - I’ll turn it around."... "I finally see the road arriving, I see beyond the road I'm driving"…"Everything in my life was leading me on, but I can be strong , I'll turn it around." What an insight and moment of clarity. We are all the navigators of our own destiny and we have to keep our focus on the present, and not dwell on the past or future. It's up to us to let go and "turn it around."
Too often dismissed as Classic rock mish mosh, this song has some incredible chord changes and beautiful two part harmony, In addition the words are amazingly inspirational.

Sing it the way you want to = this song is one of, if not the BEST, inspirational rock songs ever written. My late brother was a big Boston fan & told me, way back in the day, to listen to this song. I have & it's given me a positive kick in the ass whenever I've needed it, through the years.
What a powerful song. After many, many years of making bad decision after bad decision, I mean decades, I have in the past 3 years unbelievably turned it around. One of the worst things I was doing was chasing the past, which led to, you guessed it, more bad choices. This has always been one of my favorite songs, but after dedicating myself to good decisions, this song finally truly hit home. Boston will always be at the top for me.

In spite of what some lyric sites say, I believe that should be, "I'm much too strong NOW to compromise." Makes a lot more sense than "not", sounds like "now" if you listen closely, and googling "I'm much too strong now to compromise" brings a lot of hits, so I'm sticking with that. It changes the meaning of that line to the OPPOSITE of what it would be by saying, "I'm much too strong "not" to compromise", which is pretty weak and not very positive if you think about it. Thanks for posting the video, it's an AWESOME song!!! :O)
Hm... I see what you are saying; but it does take a strong person to compromise. An unyielding person can cause more harm than good - especially in relationships. "The mighty oak snaps and fall during harsh storms; whereas the willow whips and bends, but does not break nor fall." A person should NEVER compromise their morals or beliefs (unless it includes hurting people or animals - i.e. Pizzagate, Spirit Cooking, etc.). Just my 2 cents.
@bookguitarguy I always thought it was “not”, but your post inspired me to seek out a live video of the song. You can clearly see Brad’s lips moving and hear that he definitely says NOW. So you were right. Thank you for opening my mind to even more understanding of this great song after so many years!
