    As a Tennessee guy I was trying to come up with an argument that Heupel should be higher but really there isn’t one. So I’m just hoping he himself can prove you wrong this coming up year. 4TH year he got all his guys in there now and got a culture built up. This is the year really he’s supposed to prove something and hopefully he does.

    • @terranceallen2008

      I’m hoping you guys can put it all together this year and be a sneaky, playoff bubble team. Sadly, I think the offensive scheme is what holds you guys back. As a Dawgfan, I don’t think you can beat Kirby with a gimmick offense, respectfully. Y’all’s offense can generate 8 or 9 wins a year easy. Really the only way to stop it is having superior athletes. It’s just for a conference championship or a natty, you’re gonna play a defense that has superior athletes

      @@terranceallen2008 what about the Tennessee offense specifically makes it a gimmick?

      @@terranceallen2008 you can say that I see what you’re saying. Because UGA is a hump Heupel has yet to conquer. The athletes play a big role and Kirby is such a great defensive minded coach it’s hard for all these offensive philosophy style coaches to get a W on him. With Tennessee he just dominates the time possession it’s hard to win when you only have the ball 15% of the game.

    I'd have Sark below Kelly. He's had 6 or 7 seasons as a HC and only one great year. I get its "what have you done for me lately" but lets see if he can repeat and sustain success. So far he hasn't come close to doing that.

      Texas improved year 2 to year 1 massively. Texas improved year 3 to year 2 massively. Logic says Texas at worst holds where they were in year 4, but probably takes another big step and wins big games.

    • @jonathonedwardmiller
      @jonathonedwardmiller Месяц назад +1

      Also, remember year 2 Ewers was injured for a decent portion of the season. Card was the backup. BIG dropoff going from Ewers to Card. Ewers stays healthy, I see Texas that year going to Arlington for a rematch against TCU and potentially a rematch against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. I'm not a big injury excuse guy, but in year 2 when still building depth and your backup was Card for half the season and ALMOST made a Big 12 Championship, yeah I think that's a fair point. Year 1 was AWFUL tho.

    Thanks for the video, this stuff is fun to evaluate over the off season.
    1 Big 12 championship and Sark is the 3rd best SEC coach?
    I get it if you like a coach and their expected trajectory but what Sark has done so far does not equal a #3 ranking in the SEC imo, nor does it for Deboer, Elko or Venables. However, Sark and Venables are trending up and both have proven they can field top 5 recruiting classes every year. I expect Deboer to be able to recruit and he's beaten sark twice. Drinkwitz and Huepel have been trending up but are doing it in the SEC, however they have yet to field a top 10 recruiting class consistently. Kiffin has more consistent wins in the SEC than Drinkwitz and Huepel but doesn't recruit well and instead relies on the transfer portal. Kelly is a tenured head coach and has proven he can win and recruit in the SEC.
    I imagine LSU, Alabama, Texas and Oklahoma can all move to Tier 1 relatively soon with their current head coaches simply because they are out recruiting or are expected to be able to out recruit the other schools. But for heading into this year, this is what I would rank the coaches.
    Tier 1
    1. Smart
    Tier 2
    2. Kelly
    3. Kiffin
    4. Huepel
    5. Drinkwitz

      There's no way you have Sark and DeBoer (playoff berth holders and conference champions) over Drinkwitz, Heupel and Kiffin. Also, Venables has 0 top 5 classes. He hasn't proven anything. What bc Oklahoma's 6th in April means they'll be #1 in December? Lmao. Kelly I'll give you but I disagree on him proving he can win the SEC. I still think Kelly is the first coach since Saban did it to not win a natty at LSU.

    • @zophix-5741
      @zophix-5741 Месяц назад

      @@jonathonedwardmiller I did say every year when referencing Sark and Venables recruiting rankings, while that's not the case for top 5 classes, Venables has recruited a top 5 class, and they both have had a top 10 class every year, top 5 SEC every year. Like I said, I have Deboer and Sark behind some SEC coaches for the simple fact that they haven't done anything in the SEC yet, Deboer, Sark, Venables, Elko all need to prove themselves in the SEC.
      Maybe I should say it like this, what a coach has done outside the SEC does not translate 1:1 to the SEC. It doesn't mean what they've done is irrelevant.

And you wouldn't want to because that doesn't work. A great defense has to built and built with talent, development, and scheme. Literally no one who watched OU last year would say they haven't improved greatly. And that was with holes still in personnel. OU is in the best shape they've been in as a program in over a decade. They have the toughest schedule in the country so hopefully it comes together in time.

    Like yea LSU cranked out crazy offense, but we havent looked so legitimate under Kelly.
    Let him stay here and prove me wrong, but I think the kelly brothers ceiling is playing middleweight competition and establishing a new brand like Oregon or Cincinnati, or playing middleweight competition and resurrecting an old brand like Notre Dame.
    At lsu where we play almost nothing but big dogs, and have our eye on a natty, Coach Kellys gimmick style got us a nice Bama win and a Heisman spotlight. That aint bad, but ive also never seen an Lsu team this fundamentally unsound at the basics.

If you are being honest you can't. Its funny how, before last year, everyone said Tennessee's QB play was just Heupel's system and Hooker was a product of that system and thats why he was so good. Now, everyone is saying Heupel's system is QB dependent and dont work without a great one, hence the step back with Joe Milton. How Heupel's system was wide splits and deep ball with a few runs to keep teams honest. Then, they go out and gain more running yardage than any other team and barely throw a deep ball all year. Its clear to me that other than Kirby Smart, nobody knows whats going on with Heupel's system and how to stop it. Field a team with minimum of 4* talent and develop them to play above their rankings. Kirby is the top coach anywhere right now without any doubt. He is also the best recruiter. He has more 5* players than most teams have 4* players. That helps and is all on him.
