I’m a 70 yo surfer from the sixties and really love the way Joel uses the energy of the wave and does not surf to beat it into submission. Always a pleasure to war h this great surfer.
Quite right. Most today assume an adversarial position towards waves. Most hostile.
So smooth he flows on a wave with no wasted effort, no check turns or hopping or anything out of place.

Yes, the pool is bloody boring. Why not let the spectators throw things at the surfers or put some big rocks or something in the pool? Or put Mick's shark in there? Or put Sonny in there, if shark not available. They need to macho that thing up.

Feels like a part of me is at a lost I mean when u basically watch every wsl contest cheering on your favorite surfer in the world screaming at every sic wave he gets favorite wave when got the perfect 👐. At Kira's but lost to Kelly in the finals 😥 I was so happy when parko won the Hawaiian pro. But I wish parko and his ohana the best!! I was at Pipe in 2003. The energy and vibe was so awesome for the whole 2 weeks. I ended up staying at a house with Mick Campbell, I wish you could've interviewed him, and the morning talks were whether the Final day was on. Getting up every morning and listening to the sound of the ocean was one clue if it was on or not. I remember being on the phone with a friend from Florida when a massive 3-wave set rolled in on Finals day. He could hear the crowd roar when it started to build.
There is something so iconic about the North Shore winters, and Pipe/Backdoor, that every surfer, or surfing fan, needs to experience.
Hands down the most smooth and stylish guy ever on tour. so stoked to have been able to watch you bro

I regret not asking for a photo when he was giving an interview at the office in Avalon. We were all cheering #GoParko back then! One of the greatest in surfing for sure!
