    D'angelo Russel could certainly use this. His lack of explosiveness was painfully obvious in summer league. Boy is he gonna struggle his rookie year.

      I don't think he will be a bust but he won't be an elite point guard if he can't get to the rim at will. If he can't improve his explosiveness he better get crafty handles.

    The best way to increase your explosiveness in basketball is to train like a football player. Basketball isn't really a complete sport of athleticism like football but it's become more important in the game than before. In terms of strength and conditioning, basketball is so far behind football. So many basketball strength and conditioning coaches don't even know what the hell or why they're doing some things.
    The reason why football players jump higher and run faster than ball players is all because of one component that basketball players don't even train: strength. Their legs are so much stronger. Most basketball players rely on only their natural gifts to jump high. Their training isn't what got them there. Very few ball players have actually trained their athleticism properly. Meanwhile in football, when you get a gifted athlete like class of 2016 Josh I. (can't remember his long last name) and get him squatting 455 pounds, (what it says online) he ends up having a 46 inch vertical from a stand still, which means from his height of 6'2, he can just about get his head to the rim. I mean, that is extremely rare but still. Even NFL players that aren't quite so gifted athletically, (aka most white players) can have a 36 inch standing vertical just because of their strength. It's what allows you to put more force into the ground. I would be scared to see what a prime lebron could do if he got his legs stronger. Maybe touch the top of the backboard from a running start. Or Zach Lavine, Vince carter, etc. Start incorporating elements from football training along with some more basketball-specific components and you will see yourself become an athletic beast even without the best genetics.

    • @bballbreakdown
      @bballbreakdown  9 лет назад +2

      I have seen football workouts and yes, it seems they incorporate more focus on the glutes. Some bball trainers do understand this and know how to train to get strong gluten and flexible hips. My biggest issue is bball players aren't taught how to run properly at an early age.

    • @fawazza
      @fawazza 9 лет назад +2

      +BBALLBREAKDOWN only track shows you how to run properly

    • @fawazza
      @fawazza 9 лет назад

      look up Zach Lavine explosive workouts they obviously do workout their legs there's more in basketball than athleticism just look at Paul Pierce there are many amazing jumpers who couldn't thrive in the league

    • @stormspinner9000
      @stormspinner9000 9 лет назад +1

      Yeah I see that most basketball players need to learn proper sprinting form without the ball and work on their speed with it. Oh, I was talking purely from an athletic standpoint. Yes, overall, it's not guaranteed to make you that much better. And in basketball, you really gotta think if it's worth it or not. Ball players generally don't have enough time to exclusively work on their athleticism and it's much more of a skill based game than football. You gotta invest more in your skills. It also depends on the player. Like if I'm Zach Lavine, it's not worth it getting more athletic anymore, I should just work on my skills, but if I'm D'angelo Russell, maybe I should invest a little more time in athleticism. Yes there were many leapers that were busts mostly because they didn't have any other skills. Especially in today's NBA, you are almost guaranteed to be a bust if all you have is athleticism and no jump shot or other notable skills. That's why the best way to go if you have subpar athleticism is to be a 3 and D type of player with maybe some PG ability. There's a higher chance of longevity.

      @nbatahpten4911 9 лет назад +1

      +BBALLBREAKDOWN +stormspinner9000 While yes training like a football player may increase your athletic ability in the specific region of explosiveness, you have to question would that help you in a basketball sense? The thing is a basketball season is 82 games for over half the year, not including playoffs while in football is a 16 game season in 17 weeks. Completely different ball game. The NFL is an explosive game with playing a single game a week whereas basketball is 3 to 4 games back to back.. If you trained the way NFL players trained for basketball your legs simply will not recover in time.
      Basketball players do lift weights and do explosive training but they focus more on being able to survive 40minute games for 82 season hence more endurance like training. NFL has a lot more stoppage time for players to rest with a much shorter season.
      I do agree however some players could learn about sprinting properly, you can see it in various players such as Westbrook, LeBron and Bledsoe etc... but there are a couple sluggish players.
