D'angelo Russel could certainly use this. His lack of explosiveness was painfully obvious in summer league. Boy is he gonna struggle his rookie year.
Gmac Bust
Gmac Man, I was gonna post something about Dlo...
Lmao here the stupid bust comments again. Summer league cant tell that but i agree his lack of explosiveness is there
I don't think he will be a bust but he won't be an elite point guard if he can't get to the rim at will. If he can't improve his explosiveness he better get crafty handles.
+Gmac Marcus Smart NEEDS this in his game
how to get explosive:
step 1: eat at taco bell
Explosive diarrhea
Derek Mcfly thank you for explaining the joke i had no idea what it meant until you cleared everything up thank you so much
JoshToThe Hey...no prob
Step 2: Eat at a shady McDonalds store
Perfect timing with the upload of the video coach.I've been trying to explode up to the rim a lot more, I have been seeing progress and it's a great feeling. Thanks for the time to put this video together, I'll deffinately try these techniques.
Let me know how it goes!
The way I get explosive on the court is I ingest a lot of hot sauce prior.
Whatever works for you.
Just playing coach ;) nice video. As a slasher/catch and shoot player, I can appreciate these tips to get that first step on my opponent.
Double entendre i see you
Started doing these drills every time I step on a court. Day 3 today.
I'm 5'6" so I really need strong legs. Every little bit helps lol.
GOOD STUFF I LOVE THIS VIDEO! great tips, very good instruction, great teacher and the interview was great! keep it up!!
thank you coach for the vid...so basically im a baller and most people with who i play with tell me i got jump and bounce but personally i feel like im going as high as i should and also and to know nd have some exercises that can help me with my hops since I've never really worked on my hops
Great stuff
Are strength shoes also good to get better with explosions
The best way to increase your explosiveness in basketball is to train like a football player. Basketball isn't really a complete sport of athleticism like football but it's become more important in the game than before. In terms of strength and conditioning, basketball is so far behind football. So many basketball strength and conditioning coaches don't even know what the hell or why they're doing some things.
The reason why football players jump higher and run faster than ball players is all because of one component that basketball players don't even train: strength. Their legs are so much stronger. Most basketball players rely on only their natural gifts to jump high. Their training isn't what got them there. Very few ball players have actually trained their athleticism properly. Meanwhile in football, when you get a gifted athlete like class of 2016 Josh I. (can't remember his long last name) and get him squatting 455 pounds, (what it says online) he ends up having a 46 inch vertical from a stand still, which means from his height of 6'2, he can just about get his head to the rim. I mean, that is extremely rare but still. Even NFL players that aren't quite so gifted athletically, (aka most white players) can have a 36 inch standing vertical just because of their strength. It's what allows you to put more force into the ground. I would be scared to see what a prime lebron could do if he got his legs stronger. Maybe touch the top of the backboard from a running start. Or Zach Lavine, Vince carter, etc. Start incorporating elements from football training along with some more basketball-specific components and you will see yourself become an athletic beast even without the best genetics.
I have seen football workouts and yes, it seems they incorporate more focus on the glutes. Some bball trainers do understand this and know how to train to get strong gluten and flexible hips. My biggest issue is bball players aren't taught how to run properly at an early age.
+BBALLBREAKDOWN only track shows you how to run properly
look up Zach Lavine explosive workouts they obviously do workout their legs there's more in basketball than athleticism just look at Paul Pierce there are many amazing jumpers who couldn't thrive in the league
Yeah I see that most basketball players need to learn proper sprinting form without the ball and work on their speed with it. Oh, I was talking purely from an athletic standpoint. Yes, overall, it's not guaranteed to make you that much better. And in basketball, you really gotta think if it's worth it or not. Ball players generally don't have enough time to exclusively work on their athleticism and it's much more of a skill based game than football. You gotta invest more in your skills. It also depends on the player. Like if I'm Zach Lavine, it's not worth it getting more athletic anymore, I should just work on my skills, but if I'm D'angelo Russell, maybe I should invest a little more time in athleticism. Yes there were many leapers that were busts mostly because they didn't have any other skills. Especially in today's NBA, you are almost guaranteed to be a bust if all you have is athleticism and no jump shot or other notable skills. That's why the best way to go if you have subpar athleticism is to be a 3 and D type of player with maybe some PG ability. There's a higher chance of longevity.
+BBALLBREAKDOWN +stormspinner9000 While yes training like a football player may increase your athletic ability in the specific region of explosiveness, you have to question would that help you in a basketball sense? The thing is a basketball season is 82 games for over half the year, not including playoffs while in football is a 16 game season in 17 weeks. Completely different ball game. The NFL is an explosive game with playing a single game a week whereas basketball is 3 to 4 games back to back.. If you trained the way NFL players trained for basketball your legs simply will not recover in time.
Basketball players do lift weights and do explosive training but they focus more on being able to survive 40minute games for 82 season hence more endurance like training. NFL has a lot more stoppage time for players to rest with a much shorter season.
I do agree however some players could learn about sprinting properly, you can see it in various players such as Westbrook, LeBron and Bledsoe etc... but there are a couple sluggish players.
Another great video of very practical drills
Thanks!!
Thx! So many drills can be done without needing fancy equipment or a full court...
Is there a lot of risks of injuries if we practice explosiveness during the season ?
how many sets of this do you do before stepping on the court?
great vid! thanks for this! i'm in
Cool, thanks!! Let me know if u start using this...
Steve Francis doing his thing...good for him..
Wrong
Are you serious? Lmao!
Awsome!
Can we send you film of let's say a jumpshot and can you analyze it, tell me what problems I have and how I can fix it to get a more accurate and consistent jump shot?

Might want to tell him not to bring his knees bending inward on his jumps.
Love it
You should have q&a and have people ask you basketball related questions
I do this in my live post game shows, but maybe I should do this in the off season?

Can you make a video on how remitting illegal defense changed the NBA because I don't think a lot of younger fans even remember it. Thanks
Great idea... I'll put it on the list.
I'm trying to be like a Steve Nash type point guard but should I still try to be explosive like Russell Westbrook?
Well, u need to play to your strengths and who you are. That said, everybody can always get more explosive...
As usual liked everything except the "You in?"
Aye I go to that park!
This took me 4-6 weeks thanks i got quick
+captain crunch236 did you enjoy the process ? how frequently was your working on it? what was the intensity like with the drills

I can never be that vertical.. Running and boxing out my opponent hard gets me the rebounds, I wish I could've jumped more (lumber disc herniation doesn't let me jump higher)
Good to hear you've found a way to make it work
BBALLBREAKDOWN Let me know if you ever make it to Turkey - for a vacation or whatever.- i'll be glad to help you around
