Excellent content ty coach!!! I have a group that needs alot of work and really do think these drills will get them on the right path to be defensively sound.
i enjoy this first closeout drill and use a 3 cone variation of it for my younger players...i kinda disagree with the way they turn away from the offensive player as they get back to the middle though, my preference is that they keep that player in sight (using more of a back pedal) to prevent cuts to the rim...
You don't see a lot of perimeter boxing out nowadays. How consistent are your players boxing out shooters during the games? Also, I'm in a state that has shot clocks for HS, so we will be teaching the fly by closeout.
@@coachmalcomsyoutubechannel7304 we try to teach letting them land, then making contact, then seeking the ball. We will drill it 1 on 1 and also within shell defense or small sided drills like 3 on 3. With shot clock, I’d definitely teach fly by’s on players that are good shooters, especially late in the shot clock
I always teach to closeout with one hand up and one to stop the pass or the cross step. And force the offensive player to one side right away. Two hands up gives with feet next to each other give the offensive player two directions, I like to give them one which we choose for them. We never give up the middle, always force to the side.
Why do some.of my HS kids not give 100% or give that vibe that it's goofy. Lol like you said not closing out not hard enough They have been pulling it together as time going by
I think timing yout steps is alot better than closing out. I've been able to destroy anyone that closes out on me. But the players that come at me with a low firm long steady step, they are harder to beat of the dribble. Bc they always have one foot still on the ground. Closing out is a thing of the past. Plus u ant move side to side fast with your hands up. They must be down to move faster.
Great drills, excited to start using them. Thanks for making this video! Peace
Very professional coaches, good commitment to the game and the children.
Bro this video is just what i was looking for, i have a 22 players team and none of them Knows how to defend, i'm using this drill today, thank u
Luv drills!!! Implementing this week at practice!! 🙌🏽

Great drill we also use it, however we make them defensive slide back instead of turn and run to make it harder and work more defense

Your idea is more efficient approach. The one on this video is a outdated
I’m doing this on Monday. Just wish I had more eyes. It’s just me, 15 players and one manager that also gets to participate in certain drills.
Same here keep up being that guy
Have players be in place where the coaches are ... 1 is pump faking 1 is not paying attention 1 is doing a rip a away 1 is jump shooting etc
I feel u I’m doing pee wee basketball just me with 10 players but this is a little advanced
Yep I agree.. sometimes when coach isn't watching players tend to goof off.. I myself float around and watch them..
Record! Watch film and make adjustments according to what you’re seeing on the film.
brilliant
