Oregon QB Vernon Adam's got a concussion an was taken out. Their backup Locke was absolutely terrible QB an still to this day dont understand how he had that position with them. Only scored 10 without big play VA.

Gotta keep in mind that this was the year that TCU's all star QB Boykin had just gotten arrested the night before the game, so they ended up putting in Kohlhausen in, his first time as a starting quarterback... Remember The Alamo!

I also bet Oregon in this game, stopped watching thinking I had it wrapped up. However, as soon as Vernon Adams went down injured the game flipped. I was sick when I saw the final score.

I remember turning this game on because I was bored, even though I don't follow either team. If TCU hadn't started showing hints of something near the end of the first half I don't think I would have even come back after half-time as it looked like a blow-out was in progress. But half-way through the second half it had become one of the most exciting games I had ever seen. So pumped to have seen this amazing come-back live, and it has me thinking about it today, years later.
Just think how those of us there felt. Go Frogs!
@@grondhero Haha! I am sure the Frogs section wrung every cent out of their tickets at this one. I can only imagine! But man....you know at least a few people left at half-time and only heard on the radio heading back home about the come-back. Talk about regret!
This was the game that I found out about tcu. I go there now and just watched them beat Michigan in the college football playoff! Go frogs!

College football is basically made up of the best players from High School football.
NFL, is made up of the best players from College football.
Factor in the fact that most NFL teams carry past great college football players from 1 to 16 years (or more in Brady's case) then in comparison it's like College players playing against historically great college players.
Then compound that fact when you consider the Patriots were the best group of great former college players that won the AFC to get there and play the Falcons who had the best group of former college players in the NFC...
So therefore by default, the Super Bowl is the "UY Scuti" (look it up) of football games compared to College's level which would be about the size of Pollux. ;)

I am a die hard Ducks fan for over forty years...this was a great game..congrats to TCU for an excellent team effort to pull off the win..My team may have lost..but TCU played a great second half..Thats what true fans do is lose and commend the other team for winning..
I do often think about how it feels for the opposing team with these big comebacks. Most of the world remembers it as an amazing comeback but for the Ducks it had to be a nightmare. But very good sportsmanship to be happy for them for it, so good on you

We were there! My wife had a co-worker who went to Oregon who was there as well. She was texting him 'good job' during the half and he responded to the effect, 'Ducks have a hard time keeping a lead, it's not over, yet.' He was also at the Oregon-Auburn game. Poor guy. Poor Ducks.
That college game is one of the best in history it is also up there with the field goal run back with Alabama vs Alburn

I remember watching that game man. I think if Adams wasn't injured, they would've kept putting points on the board, either way - that was an incredible watch!
TCU's whole theme that year was "Next man up." We had over a dozen people injured throughout, some season ending injuries. For this game, TCU was out their starting QB, Center, and top 2 Wide Receivers. If any of them were in, the game might not have made it to overtime. Gotta play with what you have.
grondhero I think if both teams were healthy, especially TCU, this game would’ve been entirely different, so I see what you’re saying. But in the circumstance of this game, Oregon would’ve never blown the 31 point lead had Adams not gotten injured. Oregon had depth everywhere but at QB, and it showed.

I feel you. TCU is #1 and Oregon #2 in my books. One of my wife's co-workers is an Oregon grad and he was at the game as well (also at the Oregon-Auburn game). Ducks have to have a strong 2nd half team, which is generally TCU's strength.
It feels weird that I went to see that game in the stadium and it was the best comeback of the cfb but I was lucky.
For the uninitiated, Fort Worth is not, "just down the road" from San Antonio.

@@colton9941 our backup Jeff locky had no confidence whatsoevef. and our backup center Doug Brener had never really played center before and had many really bad snaps during the game
@@colton9941 TCU's backup was much better than Oregon's and had the advantage of being prepared to be the starting QB leading up to the game. Vernon Adams was the Ducks' heart and soul and when he got knocked out midgame Oregon became totally deflated. Plus the inconsistency of the backup center didn't help Oregon either
bosnowjangles the “advanced notice” of becoming starter for tcu was 2 days not enough to change your game plan. Lockie was also a much better qb than tcu’s backup who was a walk on 5th year senior. Who was the third stringer for most of the year and only had 61 career pass attempts entering the game and that’s not even mentioning the broken wrist he played with. Boykin was also the heart and soul of tcu just like Adams was to Oregon.

The term "greatest" is a matter of perspective. This is definitely one of the greatest comebacks of all time. That being said, if we are talking about the "largest" comeback in CFB history, there is none largest than the Michigan State vs Northwestern game in 2006. Sparty was down 38-3 in the 3rd quarter and came back to win 41-38. It may not have been the biggest stage, but certainly the biggest comeback of all time.

Gotta hand it to TCU. They had better depth and backups than Oregon did. Once the starting center and QB went out for Oregon they couldn't do a simple shotgun snap and they couldn't complete a pass more than 10 yards long. Credit to TCU for building depth and a good football program. If Helfrich would have done that at Oregon he might still be the HC there.

This game should ABSOLUTELY not be celebrated at all. Oregon choked in this game because their back-up QB and back-up center couldn't complete a proper snap to save their very lives! This game basically shows you everything that could go wrong in a football game when injury hits key personnel mid-game!
I mean, true, but TCU played the entire game with their backup QB because the starter got arrested two days before the bowl game.
Not a TCU or Oregan fan, and not trying to take away from what TCU did. But if Vernon Adams Jr. had stayed in, it would have been 10 times more difficult for this comeback to happen.

Out of anger, the Oregon center throws the ball as hard as he can to the ground, but it was a low snap and he hits his foot with it insead.
