Listening to Foggy Mountain Breakdown LOUD driving down the highway has got me several speeding tickets in my life. It just has a way of doing it to you.
AMEN! It does, indeed. One of the best times I ever had was driving over a back road in PA on my way to visit my sister and this started playing. I had grown up driving country roads so I was enjoying it and going for all it was worth. My sons were laughing - my wife, not so much. Oh well 😄 She never had much of a sense of humor anyway. I'm probably lucky I didn't wrap us around a tree, but damned if I couldn't almost hear the sounds of those 'revenuers' coming after me! LOL
What’s amazing to me is how, today, we have RUclips and the technology that these men didn’t have back then and yet I still can’t figure out how to play it. Mr. Scruggs created this in his own mind back in 1949. Simply amazing
One of my favorite songs growing up, my Uncle played Banjo! Was amazed by how fast his fingers moved! Not like guitar players! Hardly any movement! I loved it, still do today and I am now 70 years old!
Earl Scruggs is thee best musician ever....❤ and i dont listen to country bluegrass much but when you hear Earl play you know you are privilaged to be listening to a master.
My Mom's brother played the banjo just like Earl Scruggs! Grew up with him playing banjo, mom on guitar! Had such a fun time dancing to this music most of my life! God Bless!
If humans remain on this planet for another 100 million years there will never be anyone wo can play the banjo better than Earl Scroggs. Absolute Genius.
Absolute King of the Banjo World! I got to see Earl & Randy quite a few times over the years, the best was at the Ozark Music Festival July 19-21, 1974 Sedalia, MO. Even in 100'+ temps, they rocked the stage!!!
Too many are falsely called "A LEGEND" these days... That word was created for such as EARL SCRUGGS, A TRUE LEGEND!!! One other note: The looks, the smiles between this father and his middle son say it all... love, pride, respect. Nice.
This is fantastic. Earl Scruggs is superb and Ricky Skaggs is okay too but it's Randy that steals the show. And Jerry Douglas. And Stuart Duncan. What a lineup.
"Dead" is a state of mind; just like Segovia, De Lucia, Reinhardt, Grappelli and a ton of other God given talents, once heard, that worm always wriggles from time to time..imho
I love watching the hands of banjo pickers! They barely move, unlike guitar players! Always amazed me as a kid! My Uncle played like Earl! Fingers flying!
I've always been a fan of Flatt and Scruggs. When they broke up it broke my heart. But Earl Scruggs is the very best banjo artist there ever will be. No matter how any any tries they'll never be better than Eatl
I like Ricky Skaggs and think he’s a great performer and or musician and an all around good guy and I know he didn’t mean to insult anyone but when he said frailing sounded awful saying imagine that’s how bad it would sound if it hadn’t been for Earl Scruggs what an insult that was to people like Grandpa Jones,Stringbean, Bashful Brother Oswald, Ralph Stanley who often played clawhammer style, Josh Graves and others. Earl himself has said he enjoyed clawhammer banjo playing.

@@TheDoctor1225 🤣
@@TheDoctor1225 makes me think of my dad who died in 83. He loved Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. God bless his soul.
@eddienorris7067 You just gave me the best laugh I've had for a while. Thank you!
This is what i think of when i think of the country
That's the appropriate crowd reaction to Earl taking stage.
I have zero musical talent. I'm an absolute aww of people that have this gift.

Anyone (nearly) can learn how to play like this believe me if you put in enough practice
A righteous endeavor. I dug it now fellow babies! None better than Earl!
May Earl last forever. R.I.P. Earl

I've been a rock and roller for almost 60 years, and an Earl Scruggs fan nearly as long!
You can be both!!
I am at that, my friend.
Mr Scruggs deserved every ovation he received

This is the original broadcast audio track. A great technical production on top of everything on the stage.

I have listened to this at least 100 times many with tears

I believe this is my favourite session from Earl Skruggs doing Foggy Mountain Breakdown
Ricky Skaggs makes me want to learn to play the mandolin so bad. Love this song and Trio ❤
EARL STILL HAS IT!
He died in 2012.
Glad to discover this, Rickey Scaggs was my first concert I can ever remember attending. Back in the late 80's Virgina Beach area. Thanks Dad!

Jerry Douglas!!!
Even though this legend is dead you will always be remembered
"Dead" is a state of mind; just like Segovia, De Lucia, Reinhardt, Grappelli and a ton of other God given talents, once heard, that worm always wriggles from time to time..imho

Pick up radio trucks goes faster all by it self
2:08 !!
Ce sont de vrais virtuoses
The names Ricky Skaggs (Rickie Lee Skaggs) and Randy Scruggs (Randy Lynn Scruggs) are in a similar ring.
If I am asked what bluegrass is, here's the song. Earl's awesomeness knows no bounds.
Doc Watson sitting in front row
Earl Scruggs deserved a royalty from every banjo sold after 1945.
If that don't light your fire, your woods wet!
Holy shit, Randy's no slouch either...
How many times has Earl played Foggy Mountain Breakdown?
Do u remember the whitstine brothers
Did he get through one performance without doing a Bill Monroe imitation?? Half the ones he does,I’ve read the quotes and it isn’t close.
Let's load up moonshine and outrun the law
Earl didn't invent the fingerpicking style, but he did popularize it. My uncle was a fingerstyle picker before Earl made it popular.
He just owns that style! Everybody else is playing for second.
Who’s on the dobro?
Jerry Douglas.
Thanks, I’ve never seen him with long hair
❤❤❤🪕❤️❤️❤️
You can't beat the BEST.
When and where was this recorded??
What was the name of the show, etc.. ?
