I'm 22, and let me tell you, my generation has it all wrong! These are the musicians we should look up to! Duane has the best guitar tone I can imagine. Twang's the Thang!
WOW - that was great. All fantastic musicians from Randy Scruggs to Leon Russell. And how about Don Was on Upright Bass - Earth to Doris - Was Not Was.!
I think Leon Russell blows everybody out of the water here. He turns a hillbilly country jam, into a nasty groovy, Jazzy bluesy jam during his solo. Totally out of the “box”. What a legend!
Sad to see Chet and Earl gone but so grateful they were ever here. Nobody contributed more to the guitar than Chet and nobody to the 5 string banjo more than Papa Earl. We love you guys and miss you something awful.
Absolutely! Although I was familiar with Duane Eddy's music, I'd never seen him before now. I think his look here sorta matches his trademark deep guitar sound. 😉
How in the shit can Justin Beiber get more hits than this. I certainly don't want to detract from either Earl or Chesters' playing they are always great. However, I can't recall the last time I saw Steve Wariner play in band. Add on top of that Randy Scruggs and the appearances by Leon and Don Was and it becomes an instant classic. A little Duane Eddy "twang" and Vince tearing up the mandolin didn't hurt either. It was almost like Ms Cochran was sitting in for Albert Lee and James Burton.
Earl Is a genius on the banjo and I've always loved Duane Eddy. Chet Atkins may be the best guitar player ever. Vince Gill is great too but he played the mandolin on this piece. He's really good on that too. Anita Cochran sounds a lot like Duane Eddy. What a great band!
Mind you he selected a nylon string Guitar which is not going to cut through the mix too well - probably a mistake there, he should have played his Gretch!
Lot of things can go out of control on live productions. 3 to 1 spacing, dynamic range gone with a noisy acoustical environment. Rehearsal was probably fine when done without the audience. Sounds pretty good to me for live done so long ago. Sounds like an award show. Also perhaps a stupid music producer in the truck not knowing what he's doing. Give the sound guy a break here.
You won't see the likes of great, great musicians like these again. Who will fill their shoes? Just sit back, turn up the volume and listen to what great music should be like.
Priceless talent and Gentlemen making music that touching your soul to you toes! Remember practicing 6 to 8 hrs every day possible to play their style. Love of music and making people grin! Those were the days the rest of my time was sitting on a tractor working the land. At that time most in neighborhood had black and white TV, cows, pigs, pastures and acres of gardens and corn. A treat was to buy one 45 record at music store for $1 when you made 50¢ an hour if lucky. A one lb Hershey bar was $1 and coke 5¢! Phone number was three numbers and prayer before lunch at school. Lucky living in those times of respect, honor, and faith! God Bless the USA and REAL USA CITIZENS!!!
The sound mixer seems to only know how to mix rock. He thought the more rhythm ( bass) the better. Too bad, he missed a lot of once in a lifetime music.
Used to have a couple of Flats and Scruggs Albums growing up. They came to our town and played at the Pioneer Picnic and while in town they rented a place across the play ground from where I lived. One of them was out under a big maple with his banjo, so we all sat around him and listened to him play When he was finished, he went into their bus and came out and gave each of us one of their corncob pipes, he gave me three, one for each of use kids. We would always gather around that big maple and listen to them play, it was easier and did not cost us anything, like it would if we went to the Picnic to listen to them. Fond memories of growing up..
Grateful that one item on my bucket list was to see Earl Scruggs in concert before he passed. Even in his twilight years he was still a better banjo player than 90% of Nashville.
I hate to have to make such a declarative statement but Bela Fleck is the greatest banjo player that ever lived. I don't take the greatest ever tag lightly. I've heard and seen so many great musicians but I'd prefer to keep them in the class of great musicians. I have to be taken to the notion almost against my will. I have to be won over, convinced, sold. There has to be a gap between that player and all the rest on their instrument. Bela won every bluegrass and every banjo competition worth winning then took banjo places it had never been before. I could not believe when I heard him become a jazz and fusion player. The inherent properties of the 5 string banjo should preclude it from being played "across the changes" of jazz or in the scales of jazz or fusion. Not that he didn't worship Earl when he was young. It was Earl Scruggs that made him take up the banjo. just that developed innovative technical skills and musical knowledge much broader than country and bluegrass. He isn't an evolutionary banjo player, he's revolutionary. Bela Fleck is not only a great bluegrass player, he's world-class musician. After the last time, I heard Bela Fleck and the Flecktones I had a dream that I saw him asleep on his back. I figure he was dreaming about music because his fingers were moving.
A lot of people don't know that Vince Gill could hold his own, one on one, with just about any of these guys on guitar (with the exception of Chet Atkins). Vince is a great musician.
Actually, Chet was a fan of Vince's music as well as being a peer. ruclips.net/video/Stv3ugVFZD8/видео.html ruclips.net/video/lotN6YM0i5Y/видео.html In the second video, you'll see that Vince was in awe of Chet, but has no trouble keeping up with him.
What fun to listen to! When the greats gather together, it's got to be good. I have to say that as many guitar pickers as there are out there, Duane Eddy alone has his sound, and what a treat it is to hear. You know, it just don't seem right that Anita Cochran plays as good as she is beautiful. Talk about having it all!!
What a beautiful, flawless and seamless transitioning between the solos, each of which added a lovingly painted color to the composition. It is a privilege to watch and listen virtuosity at work.
You gotta wonder what those 46 thumbs downs are listening to...pretty hard to turn away from Eddy, Gill, Scruggs, or any of these guys, really....i liked Cochran there, too...and Russell...Was to complain?
The first time I listened to my parent's copy of "rebel rouser" by Duane Eddy changed me as a musician. It was raw and brave. It lit the path of music I have enjoyed travelling ever since....
jarheadrn I believe Earl played on Leon's "Hank Wilson's Back" album in the early 70's. If you haven't heard it, you should go get it and enjoy it. It was Leon's Country/Bluegrass Concept album and was KILLER!
Yep - someone should tell American (and other) audiences that they are not part of the show and that, strange as it may seem, some people have gone to the show in order to hear the performers!
Greetings and God bless our family baby !!! I wish we were at home listening to this song !!! I love you and I play Blue Ridge Mountain Girl...Every day for our 10th year anniversary!!!!!! I cant believe in a few months it will be 11 years !!!!
I'm 22, and let me tell you, my generation has it all wrong! These are the musicians we should look up to! Duane has the best guitar tone I can imagine. Twang's the Thang!
WOW !!!! They're all great!
WOW - that was great. All fantastic musicians from Randy Scruggs to Leon Russell. And how about Don Was on Upright Bass - Earth to Doris - Was Not Was.!
Grandissimi musicisti!!!
I have a question, what about Anita Cochran in this number she is fantastic
That's a "SUPERGROUP"!
i think you got to thank the uploader
How good was that
Put a flat top in there hands and you find out real fast who the real guitar hero's are !
Did someone forget to mic up Chet?
Couldn't hear Chet. WTH!!!! Fire the sound guy.
I think Leon Russell blows everybody out of the water here. He turns a hillbilly country jam, into a nasty groovy, Jazzy bluesy jam during his solo. Totally out of the “box”. What a legend!
That was almost too much talent on one stage. I'm surprised it didn't create a singularity of some kind. Thanks for putting this up.
Sad to see Chet and Earl gone but so grateful they were ever here. Nobody contributed more to the guitar than Chet and nobody to the 5 string banjo more than Papa Earl. We love you guys and miss you something awful.
Duane Eddie completely defines himself with a note and a chord at the very end. Sweet!
Absolutely! Although I was familiar with Duane Eddy's music, I'd never seen him before now. I think his look here sorta matches his trademark deep guitar sound. 😉

Not everyone has great taste in music now this is Gold ❤️
Earl Is a genius on the banjo and I've always loved Duane Eddy. Chet Atkins may be the best guitar player ever. Vince Gill is great too but he played the mandolin on this piece. He's really good on that too. Anita Cochran sounds a lot like Duane Eddy. What a great band!
Too bad we can't hear Chet better, but Don Was made a really cool statement! Great musicians all around!
We as a nation need a lot more of this. Great wholesome entertainment. 👌Just gotta love it.
There, will NEVER be another Earl Scruggs.
I heard at least one hammer on and a pull off...
This is a very special group of instrumentalists. Together or individually.
Otamar de Carvalho

Looks like the sound mixer completely failed to get Chet up in the mix...
I think it was a mixture of that and Chet hardly touching the strings. I don't think he was in too good of shape health wise.
Right... the king on the stage and the sound guy drops the ball... YA HAD ONE JOB... lol
Mind you he selected a nylon string Guitar which is not going to cut through the mix too well - probably a mistake there, he should have played his Gretch!
Pickinbuddy Chet was playing

brings tears to your eyes, don't it? RIP Chet and Earl
And Leon too.
And now Duane
You won't see the likes of great, great musicians like these again. Who will fill their shoes? Just sit back, turn up the volume and listen to what great music should be like.
If this doesn't Ring your Bell, your Clapper is Broken. LOL
Ain't that the truth!!!
no boy, just got a sore arm, from pulling my plonker
Ring yer bell - toe tappin tune.
Damn right!
Even Doc Watson said he thought Randy was one of the best flat-pickers who ever lived. At least that's what I can still remember! :)
I'm not surprised. I saw Randy Scruggs in concert and it was truly amazing...
pnolans I agree. He was amazing, gone way too soon
Ever heard of Glen Campbell? Or Roy Clark?😂 they blow him out of the water
@@kesslerdayton1477
Roy or Glenn wasn't know for their flat picking , Roy also said Randy was one of the best flatpickers he'd ever heard.
Egads at the talent and experience on that one stage all at once,,,,
The pro bowl of bluegrass! All legends. No matter how bad your day is this will make you smile.
Priceless talent and Gentlemen making music that touching your soul to you toes! Remember practicing 6 to 8 hrs every day possible to play their style. Love of music and making people grin! My name is Larry SCRUGGS and I endorse this message.
is that Leon Russell on the electric piano ?
Sure was!
The sound mixer seems to only know how to mix rock. He thought the more rhythm ( bass) the better. Too bad, he missed a lot of once in a lifetime music.
Especially Chet Atkins. That was terrible
All of these men are more gangster than any of the Crips or Bloods. True OG.
A thousand years of practice, practice, practice right there on that stage.
Yes Sir...but I think it's hard to sell that to the younger generation now.
Until I learned how to play several instruments, the idea of "practice" always seemed boring. Not boring at all; it's a meditation.
That’s Americana. ! Less we forget

Sound mixer: “I think I’ll turn Chet Atkins down all the way and then he will sound great.”
noticed that.. very disappointing.
Grateful that one item on my bucket list was to see Earl Scruggs in concert before he passed. Even in his twilight years he was still a better banjo player than 90% of Nashville.
Me too. I saw him back in the 70's when it was The Earl Scruggs Review. The 2 things I did right was to see the Beatles live (64) and Earl Scruggs.
Goodness Gracious what a fantastic Group of The Greatest Musicians in History thanks for putting this up !
I LOVE YOU CHRISTINA MAE BUSH !!
The greatest guitar players of all time.
Don Was: "I'll just play some Cream here . . . "
I hope that i'm not out of line here but nobody can play a banjo better than MR earl scruggs, nobody!
Earl and the late Ralph Stanley. Check out "The Clinch Mountain Boys."

I'm a blues and rock guy, but this is awesome. So much talent in one room.

Amen!!!!
I pray that my great-grandkids listen/watch this and know, these were the great ones.
I am sure when Don Was heard this, he cried that Chets' contribution was lost. He is probably trying to buy the master.
Wow! What a performance by an awesome group of incredibly talented musicians!
What fun to listen to! When the greats gather together, it's got to be good. Randy was amazing on an acoustic.
Yeah too bad he's gone too. Passed on much too young.
Lost arts - SOO SAAD - all electronics, etc now. TALENT NOT NEEDED
So much greatness on one stage.
Just a great piece of music.. love it
What a beautiful, flawless and seamless transitioning between the solos, each of which added a lovingly painted color to the composition. It is a privilege to watch and listen virtuosity at work.
And Leon Russell! Oh my goodness!
nothing like this anymore. so sad
Great Don Was with Sunshine of your love on dobuble bass solo!!
Aw sound man you screwed up Chet’s solo. Otherwise, completely awesome!
HELLO VALERIE 👋🎄🎄🎄
@@jennyrossman4614 Hello from California
@@VLove-CFII Good morning Valerie, I'm saying hello from Tampa Florida, how are you doing today? 👋🎄🎄
Hot Damn Hadn't seen this before.
Holy shit. I'm so glad to have just watched this.
Why does the radio not play this kind of music. Thanks for posting and God Bless the pickers as they are awesome. Raw Talent.
Anita Cochran really put on a show . Great tele picker. She almost showed up Steve Wariner. And folks is something.
Okay so I guess it's time I finally realize that Vince Gill is a great musician with a crap load of talent.
themusicmanof82 he’s amazing
What about Leon Russel? Didn’t think him important enough to mention? Those guys obviously think he belongs or he wouldn’t be there.
Watch it again!
You gotta wonder what those 46 thumbs downs are listening to...pretty hard to turn away from Eddy, Gill, Scruggs, or any of these guys, really....i liked Cochran there, too...and Russell...Was to complain?
Some people just don`t know music when they hear it,THIS IS MUSIC
this is great,,even Leon Russell on keyboard :-)
Rarely do you see souch talent.....no.... gifted on one stage
Haha! Holy shit this is one of the best clips I've seen on RUclips! Watched it about 6 times now and still smiling. Brilliant upload!
I am sorry, but New Country has a lot of catchin' up to do. Thank goodness for recorded music from those talented souls.
HELLO DIANE👋🎄🎄🎄
What I like, is that its so laid back they all let each other play!
The first time I listened to my parent's copy of "rebel rouser" by Duane Eddy changed me as a musician. It was raw and brave. It lit the path of music I have enjoyed travelling ever since....
That damn sure ain't digital.............
Strongest stage I have seen in a long time, holding up that much talent!!!
That looks like Leon Russel on the keyboards It is!
jarheadrn I believe Earl played on Leon's "Hank Wilson's Back" album in the early 70's. If you haven't heard it, you should go get it and enjoy it. It was Leon's Country/Bluegrass Concept album and was KILLER!
Wm. A. Bill Fisher Just now heard Leon's licks on this tune. You could spot him from a mile off even if you're not looking at him.
Tulsa's answer to ZZ Top (except Leon grew his out first). LOL!
@@wm.a.billfisher1410 I love his Hank Wilson's back and all his music. Major talented man. Great songwriter too.
Low Key Leon. One of the Giants, he got his due very late in life.
Wish Roy Clark and Glen Campbell had been there too.
PERFECT BLUE GRASS DON GERMAN
What talent on one stage. Leon Russell, the Scruggs, Chet and Duane plus Vince Gill. My God
Toll, welche Fingerfertigkeit die alten Herren noch haben! 👋👏👍🏽
Wish the crowd would shut the Hell up until the end. Completely drowned out a third of the piece.
Yep - someone should tell American (and other) audiences that they are not part of the show and that, strange as it may seem, some people have gone to the show in order to hear the performers!
Priceless!! Thank you so much for sharing this rare treat of some of the best musical legends ever!! 😃
Female lead guitarist
Eddy is by far the most distinct
The sound guy guy screwed Chet over and I think that’s horse Chet 😂
Ok - I have tried but I can't get the pun - help!
Love this! Can’t believe all the talent.
Really enjoyed!!! So much talent!!!!
Unreal! The collection of talent on one stage. Great tune
luv Anita Cochran shez a beautiful singer an Guitarist
better sound guy would have helped , but what a line up
Where is Ricky Skaggs? Boy how I wish I could have seen this talent. RIP Mr. Scruggs.
Anita you Vixen!
Wow . 4 1/2 minutes of heaven
Thanks, that's a lot of talent for only one stage.

home listening to this song !!! I love you and I play Blue Ridge Mountain Girl...Every day for our 10th year anniversary!!!!!! I cant believe in a few months it will be 11 years !!!!
Who was covering up Chet's solo!?!?
That was fantastic! Earl even added a little Foggy Mountain Breakdown, from back in the day when it was Flatt and Scruggs.
Duane Eddy said to get your own style and do it with authority. Some people didn't get it, but I understood what he was getting at.
good grief , now thats a line up.
And a great line up !
holy smokes, the bass player jumps in the middle of that with some cream 'sunshine of your love'
haha 😎
Don Was from Was Not Was. Detroit Original.
