  • In March of 2024, Otto and I thru-hiked the West Highland Way in Scotland, one of the most famous long-distance trails in the UK. Come join us for days 5 and 6 of our (wild)camping adventure where we finally reached the Highlands.
    We had beautiful views and sunshine - only to find ourselves in full wintery conditions 12 hours later with freezing cold winds, snow and hail which made for some tough hiking….
    Stay tuned for part 4 of this adventure!

    Hi Elli and Otto! The contrast between the Scottish landscape and the Scottish weather couldn't be greater. A really tough challenge. Respect! By the way, a very nice handkerchief, I've seen it somewhere before. Hang in there! 😊

    Hi Ellie, this spring in Scotland has been shite. I'm 72, live in Dunblane and got back from visiting my family in New Zealand on 19th March. A few days after I got home, I almost booked flights to go back again!
    Sad to say, knowing you post sometime after events, the weather for you trip was officially mega-shite. But your vlogs make me smile. Thanks and hug to Otto.

      Yes, it's very convenient as you have the bar for drinks/food where you can warm up, be out of the rain, charge your things etc. A good option, even more so if the weather isn't too great :)

    wieder ein sehr schönes Video. Bei blau/weißem Himmel macht das laufen natürlich viel mehr Spaß und Freude, als bei Schnee, Regen, eisigem Wind.
    Kompliment wie ihr dem Wetter trotzt. Viel Energie und Kraft für den weiteren Weg . 😊🎉

      Vielen lieben Dank :) tatsächlich scheint ihn Kälte oder Regen quasi gar nicht zu stören 😅 normalerweise zelte ich gern etwas mehr abgelegen, aber bei dem Wetter wars echt schön, nicht nur im Zelt zu sein, sondern ein paar Stunden im Warmen in der Bar sitzen zu können :)

    The landscapes are wonderful 🤩 My wish for the next video after your finish: can you please Elli sum up how much money you spent (transportation included)?

    • @ellihikes
      @ellihikes  4 месяца назад +2

      Thank you so much! I probably will do a summary video for the WHW and address it there too, but this is what I roughly spent:
      - transport: a bit difficult, because that varies obviously where you travel from (I came over with the ferry from Amsterdam which cost about 300€, but booked months in advance)
      - train from FW to Milngavie after finishing the trail was 30£ though
      - apart from that: 13-15£ for every night on a campsite (5 nights)
      - food (from shops or eaten in cafes): 10-15£ on average per day
      -> I didn't eat out a lot on this hike and wildcamped a few nights too. In total I spent roughly 150£ for the 8 days (not including transport)

    Nice one Elli or rather a cold one 🥶
    Quite a change in scenery this time even though some of it disappeared in the clouds and snow! (Great colourful shoes, quite funky,
    I hope they kept your feet reasonably warm 🤔)? Otto is an inspiration the way he tramp on through thick and thin.
    Keep going, keep warm and thank you for the video. Fingers crossed for better weather 🤞🏻

    It will test your endurance Eli ( and Otto) in those conditions for sure. Good quality gear will make life more comfortable. Although harsh conditions, better than midges throughout the warmer weather. I made the mistake of hiking/climbing in June. A nightmare. Looking forward to following your adventures.

      @ellihikes  3 месяца назад

      Yes, that's very true! I was very happy with my gear and actually wasn't cold at night in the tent :) I've only been in Scotland in summer once but that was horrible too 😅 definitely prefer spring since then, even if it's like this weather-wise...
