Thank you again for a great hiking video Ellie - and for ‘yomping’ through some awful weather 🌧️ and boggy paths. As usual, very informative and entertaining. All very much appreciated. Take care til next time 👍🏻
Thanks for taking me along, I used to live not far from Cannick and got into the mountains whenever I could. Love the scenes where Otto takes a staring role.
Hello Elli. I love to hear about Otto's moods - how you can read how he is feeling. He is such a positive chap! And one needs a good positive companion in all walks ( I think I did a pun! HaHa! ) of life. Take Care - M.
Hahaha :) Thank you so much for following along! Otto really is the best hiking companion. I feel like he's very good at showing me how he's doing, but obviously I watch him closely to make sure I don't miss any signs and I also know him quite well and know what's hard for him etc. :)
I really enjoyed your video, the picture quality was so good, and your commentary sounded as if you were brimming with confidence. Carrying Otto across the stream, looked potentially difficult, and you didn't slip on the rocks. It may have been the camera angle, but to my eyes you are also looking strong, and I mean that in a good way. I'm looking forward to your next video. I've also been watching Lauren Roarwick walking across New Zealand, the contrast between your landscape and hers are so interesting. New Zealand seems to have huts to sleep in for the night all along her route.
Hello Elli, your endurance and "ability to suffer" - in other words your strength - are truly admirable. If I had to hike in such conditions with feet so wet, I think my toes would fall off and I probably wouldn't be able to see the impressive landscape at all. Keep going and good luck!😊
Such a beautiful landscape, and what a relief when the sun finally came out! That is the silver lining to Scotland's wet weather, I think: when the sun does finally come out, it can feel almost magical. You did a great job carrying Otto across that ford. That looked a little scary, but you handled it like a champ.
That's so so true! Scotland is beautiful in every weather but especially when the clouds clear and the sun's out :) Thank you so much for following along!!
Your videos are an inspiration to get out into the wild again. You are such a positive person Elli in spite of some horrendous weather you manage to keep smiling. You will be a new woman after a night in the pod and a shower.
Aww, that comment really made my day - seriously!! Thank you so much for the support and encouragement 😇 It's mind-blowing to think that my videos have this effect on people!! Thank you 😍
A coffee by a peaceful Scottish Loch! I think you found Heaven, my version of it anyway. Great video as always. Love your adventures, keep them coming :)
Just watching your recent videos I have been alarmed by some of the very challenging scenarios that you have faced, and but for favourable circumstances, may have become potentially very serious. On one occasion you were hiking in snow and ice, navigating huge ice covered boulders alongside a river. Treacherous underfoot, both you and Otto suffering fatigue and very cold, you were alone - a misstep could easily have resulted in a fractured limb. In those conditions, and at that remote location, that could have been a real emergency and recovery would have been problematic. I know you would have had a solution at hand. I enjoyed the video. Great quality again. Sheffield South Yorkshire.
Hello Elli and Otto, Wow that bloody wind was strong on this one, no wonder you were so glad to get to the Boff. Love the way Otto heads off up the hills But always seems to go the right way (does he have a built-in GPS lol) Also so cute when you give him the choice of treats to pick and he thinks about it for a bit But then grabs the big one, he's not daft. Another great adventure with once again some amazing views. 😜✌
quadruped LOLZ at bipod in the gale 😂 🔥Otto was on fire the whole trip ♥ I do find that dogs are invigorated by the wind - perhaps it's millions of scents rapidly passing their noses 🤔 That was a really lovely route and video, Elli. Nice new tune 😊 And you found a better route for the Affric Kintail Way 😊 Hope you're having fun and relaxing and slowing down now you're over half way 🌲🌳🌄🌅🏁 Was it InReach when you debagged and rescued Otto in the stream ? 😉
Well done! You both did amazing! So very impressed with how you push through all the tough times. Glad you got that really nice day with that awesome campsite. Keep it up Elli!
Aww, thank you so much for the kind and supportive words :) That means so much!! Hiking and backpacking definitely taught me to be more resilient and to just keep going even if it's hard sometimes :) Thank you for following along!!
Incredible scenery, with almost no evidence of human activity for much of the route! No walls, fences, forestry etc! Walking this part of the route thousands of years ago would look almost identical, which is amazing!
ikwym but todays "classic Scottish" landscape is often described as an ecological desert having been heavily impacted by tree clearance by humans and by overpopulation with sheep and deer. A number of estates are working to reverse that eg Feshie & Mar Lodge. I wonder if Elli got to see any of the regeneration on the TGO.
Great follow on from your last video. Some terrible conditions there but it never seemed to dampen your spirit. Glad you got some better weather to finish on.
Thank you so much for following along :) I always try to stay positive, even if it's hard sometimes.... But overall, I'm just so lucky that I get to explore these beautiful places, so it's hard not to smile :)
Inspiring! Very good to explore other tracks, so remote, beautiful! Just came back today from my own three and a half week hike in Scotland. Now catching up with your videos. 😊
Hi Elli, thanks for another delightful episode of you and Otto. I'm probably being lazy given I know you've made vlogs about your equipment. But please could you kindly tell what those insulated 'foot-mittens', so to say, are? You wore them inside at Camban bothy and in the tent on the shore of the loch. I don't think my old feet could ever be cold again if I could buy some!!
Thank you so much for following along and sorry for the late reply! The "shoes" are down booties that I've used for a couple of years. I don't use down anymore (and wouldn't buy them again because of that), but as they are still ok, I don't want to throw them away. If they ever break, I'll get a new pair made from synthetic materials like Apex. Enlightened Equipment have them (the Torrid Booties) or Liteway or Gramxpert make similar ones as well :)
Congratulations on a great hike and beautiful video. How well do the Sealzskin socks keep you dry (or wet, but warm?)? Did you have to walk in wet and cold socks nearly every day? They don't dry overnight, I assume, not even in a bothy, when there's no fire, or do they? Can you get them dry underneath a sleeping bag? Thus I wonder if you have some great tricks to dry them or whether you "soldiered on". Thank you.
Thank you so much for the kind words and sorry for the late reply! The Sealskinz work well for me: If it's "just" long, wet grass or a bit boggy, my feet generally stay more or less dry. If I ford a river and the water is really "pushed" in, they will be wet - but they stay warm. On that particular hike, yes: I've had wet feet all day every day. Putting on wet socks in the morning is tough, but it gets better and warmer once I start hiking so I don't notice it that much. I don't bother drying them (unless it's easy to do it when there's a fire) because they're either getting wet again in the morning (if the conditions are wet) or will dry quickly when hiking if the weather is dry. It's just that first moment for me and I just get through it.... But what I always do: Keep one pair dry at all times. I have one pair that I only wear at night/at camp that always stays dry so that I have always something to change into and have my feet dry... That makes a huge difference :)

I'm so glad you got to see Glen Affric properly on your return trip. And yes, bothies are wonderful in bad weather.
Yes, I was very happy to actually see it on the way back :) it's very stunning, a beautiful area 🥰
Thanks for taking me along, I used to live not far from Cannick and got into the mountains whenever I could. Love the scenes where Otto takes a staring role.
Thank you so much!! The area around Glen Affric really is stunning, must be so nice to live there :)

@@Daytona2I wish there were more Scots pine trees it's sad the native Caledonian forest is so sparse.
It really was stunning and so remote. Even if there has been human activity, it feels so far away now :)
Yes, I did indeed see places where it starts to grow back in the Cairngorms like Glen Feshie :)
Another beautiful episode ❤never fails to cheer me up. Otto is so cute in his sleeping bag .Thank you ❤
Thank you so so much for following along and always leaving kind comments! That means so much :)
Enjoying watching you & Otto mooching around Scotland together. Good effort kiddo. 💪
