FYI, you can check a box as luggage as long as it meets dimension and weight restrictions. I have had to do so in the past for work and it has never been a problem. Pro Tip: Take clear tape with you to attach the baggage tag as they don't always have it at the counter. I also write my name, address, flight number, and destination on the box just in case.
Or just buy a small suitcase at the thrift store where everything is so cheap that you’re buying everything and bring it home on the plane. Likely cheaper than shipping even if they charge you a bag fee.
I’m really thankful to have a Deseret industries near me. They’re the only thrift store franchise that have kept their prices low rather than looking every single thing up online.
Josh said 3.29 for a book was expensive. My Goodwill put $8 on a book and was closer to 4-5 for the rest. Everyone else is 50c-1.00 used and certainly less than GW.

Airlines use to let you check in boxes, but a lot has changed in the last few years. Luggage rules can also differ between airlines. Call the airlines before you go and ask if they still allow checking in boxes. You can also buy a cheap suitcase at the thrift store, then resell or donate it when you get home. A second suitcase charge is cheaper than box shipping. Also, think about taking a big foldable nylon duffel bag in your luggage when you travel. Your just stuffing it with shoes and clothes, it will be fine. Easy to store until your next trip.

I always say if you can take In & Out's burger + Five Guys fries, that would be a WINNER. 😂We thrifted last December in Seattle, shipped 3 boxes back to Phoenix close to the size of yours. Each was $50. Glad you found good finds here in the desert!
When I have been in a similar situation, I've thrifted a suitcase and paid to check it (cheaper and less work than shipping). As a bonus, if you pick a good suitcase, you can then resell the suitcase.
The last Goodwill you went to in Mesa is next to Bookman's. It's a really fun store. They buy sell and trade books, games, music etc. You can find some cool things in there. I'd recommend taking a look if you're ever this way again.

I did the same thing. I found a bunch of golf clubs, one time and purchased a cheap, soft side ski bag at the thrift store. Stopped and grabbed some tape and bubble, wrapped the ends, tape them up and put them on the plane. Worked out perfectly.

I feel ya….I go home to Pa. every year (from Alaska) for 30 days to visit parents. Prices in the lower 48 are far lower than Alaska and a lot more Vintage items. I shipped home 27 boxes (ground👍) last year!
something you could do when thrifting in new locations is ask if they have email coupons/regular coupons etc. I think you discovered one awhile back while at savers in vegas but in AZ if you give them your email address you'll get a 20% off coupon for any purchase over $20 and you can use the coupon as many times as you want whenever you shop.
this happened to me once while i was traveling. i went to the Bins and got a suitcase for $2 and checked an extra bag.thankfully i had status on the airline so it didn’t cost me anything extra! might be cheaper than shipping it, depending.

Checking Box Question: I have checked many boxes as luggage for air travel over the years. Just check their size/weight limits first. What we do these days, as we travel, is bring an empty large soft duffle in our outbound suitcase. That way we don’t have to buy a box or tape to bring back an extra bag on the flight. An alternative method we often used, was to mail large duffles home, without boxing them. In those days the carriers would let us attach a label, with the shipping address right on the duffle, on a tag. I believe they still allow it, you just have to have a way to securely attach the shipping label (a clear pouch wired to the handle, perhaps). Figure that out before you leave and bring a padlock too. Our duffle of choice was the big Olive Drab Green Army Duffels/Navy Sea Bags because they have a Heavy Duty closure that takes a padlock. Next time you see a Nylon one at a garage sale/Thrift Store, snap it up for that purpose. The more modern Nylon models weigh less then the older canvas model and take up less room in your outbound suitcase. They also have backpack straps, as well as carry handles.🙂🙂

Hey, this is my area! I can't believe I didn't know you were all in AZ! Damn! As far as thrifting here, I never lack inventory, that's for sure. Perk of one of the most populated states in the US. However, our prices are generally higher. That $20 jacket was nothing! I'm lucky to find shoes under $15 anymore, good shoes, and most are upwards of $20. Very common to see $40-60. Clothes vary widely. A part of the problem is that the employees receive no training! They price based on their own whim, so prices are not consistent at all, and are often priced higher than eBay, which is Goodwill shooting themselves in the foot. I shop their less these days, focusing on smaller shops, garage sales, and the occasional trip to Deseret. I only have two reasonably close to me right now, and only one of them is really all that good. However, when I go to Mesa Thrift, I always fill my cart, and never spend less than $100! Funnily enough, your 'discretion' on items in this video is me trying to choose wisely. I would be that person who has to go get a box and ship it! Actually, what I likely would've done was bought a large duffel or another suitcase at one of these shops and just checked it. Probably cheaper, and if it was a nice bag, I could resell that, too.
I love going to Freddys. It is a frozen custard and burger place. I live in the SF bay area and we don't have any here. I found them when I was visiting OK and TX. I always order the California burger. Lol
Whoever said GWs in the Phoenix area are bad, I'm calling foul. I moved across the country because the thrifting throughout the entire valley is INSANELY good. Prices are much cheaper than the east coast stores, and my business has tripled since I got here last year. I'd do it again in a heart beat.

It will cost you less to take the box of stuff as a bag on your return flight. It will max out at $50.00. Shipping through the post office or through UPS, it will cost more because the package is not only by weight, it is also by the size of the box. Airlines don’t do that, they just price it as a bag on you flight

How did I miss everyone while they were here in AZ! Some goodwills still have deals but most of the clothing and shoes are now over priced. I didn't even know about the golf course, I'm going to check that out (when it cools down of course :))

That's one of my favorite Deserts. The Goodwill's are very good in AZ but you have to go to a few different ones. Whataburger is gross. Also, I found some good things at the Humane Society...was there last week and grabbed some niiiice stuff!
You can check a box. I have done it multiple times. I did it once bringing the cradle that all my siblings and I used back from my moms. It was a 4’x2’x2’. They tried to tell me I couldn’t at first due to size unless I paid $50 over size fee but once I pulled up their websites guidelines for what you can check they waived it. The guidelines said 69”x69”x69” 50lb max. Any bigger was subject to oversized luggage charges.
I've checked boxes on Southwest a couple of times I would assume American is the same but a great reminder to all of your watchers that Pirate Ship is the only way to go for UPS..
Those reddish/orange boots with the sherpa inside next to the Sorrel boots I think were Duckfeet brand and I would have grabbed those! I made a trip to my local bins store yesterday, it started storming and the power went out. I will say it was kind of creepy trying to shop with no lights and it got miserably hot in there. In the end we all just had to leave anyway since everything was down. It was pretty sad to leave all my goodies behind. I make Christmas stockings out of band tee shirts and right now band tees are $$$ I had found a couple so it was disappointing to not be able to buy them.

I was born in Phoenix. Fun story. The hottest temperature ever recorded in Phoenix was 122f. I was working outside that day. Thankfully, I was a teenager that wasn't bothered by extreme heat.

You can check a cardboard box as luggage for sure. That's how we bring Christmas gifts for the grands. It usually runs about $40.

One of my eBay reseller sons bought a thrifted suitcase for $15 to carry home his purchases and sold it for $250 when he got back home!

That's one of my favorite Deserts. The Goodwill's are very good in AZ but you have to go to a few different ones. Whataburger is gross. Also, I found some good things at the Humane Society...was there last week and grabbed some niiiice stuff!

You can check a box. I have done it multiple times. I did it once bringing the cradle that all my siblings and I used back from my moms. It was a 4’x2’x2’. They tried to tell me I couldn’t at first due to size unless I paid $50 over size fee but once I pulled up their websites guidelines for what you can check they waived it. The guidelines said 69”x69”x69” 50lb max. Any bigger was subject to oversized luggage charges.

I made a trip to my local bins store yesterday, it started storming and the power went out. I will say it was kind of creepy trying to shop with no lights and it got miserably hot in there. In the end we all just had to leave anyway since everything was down. It was pretty sad to leave all my goodies behind. I make Christmas stockings out of band tee shirts and right now band tees are $$$ I had found a couple so it was disappointing to not be able to buy them.

When on vacation in the USA, we buy a cheap cooler then check it in on the way home. You can fill it will extra luggage items.

I was born in Phoenix. Fun story. The hottest temperature ever recorded in Phoenix was 122f. I was working outside that day. Thankfully, I was a teenager that wasn't bothered by extreme heat.
