- Gwent high score round of 554, played on PS4 and max difficulty setting.
Round 1: Geralt wins passively (0 points wasted)
Round 2: Geralt wins playing all cards in the winning round (554 points)
Since it is a best-of-3, and Geralt won 2 rounds, there is no Round 3.
Question: why not Horn on front row? Answer: Dandelion/Jaskier card already applies Horn effect.
Question: did you lose Round 3? Answer: Geralt won both rounds and the game is over.
Question: how to get five Blue Stripe commandos? Initially only 3 were available. When patch v1.1 arrived for the first DLC, it was possible to get 5 for some time. About a year later, CDPR patched it back to 3 maximum. So it's no longer possible to get 5 Blue Stripes if your game has the latest patches.
The strategy I used is the same as my previous 465 point run using vanilla cards, except here I use some better cards only available in paid DLC. The theoretical max is 594 points if Geralt gets lucky enough to collect all "spies" on his side of the board. To get a very high score you must play on max difficulty because the opponent has more spies and decoys than lower difficulties, and the opponent having better cards actually help you get a higher score overall.
The basic idea of get very high scores is to play spies and decoys to resurrect cards, and play much more than the typical maximum of 10 cards (you can play up to 34 cards with Nilfgaard deck). You also want to win a round by wasting very few points, and then win a round by using all of your cards for a big score. The best opponent is Sasha in Passiflora in Novigrad since she has 4 spies, 3 decoys, and 4 medics, which keeps the round alive for a long time. She also has 3 scorch cards, but you can be clever about what cards you play and in what order to prevent her AI from using them.
Getting 500+ takes many attempts because you need a few things to work out just right:
1. craft a deck that is possible to extract fully. The Nilfgaard and Northern Realms decks can both extract 30+ cards using spies, decoys and medics.
2. the four Gaunter cards summons are worth big points, but you must draw Gaunter before any of his three Summons. For each summon you draw before Gaunter, you "lose" a card. It is just luck to draw Gaunter first. A safer tactic is to ignore these four cards and use Trebuchets, less reliant on luck but lowers the theoretical max score to 578.
3. need to manipulate the opponent AI into feeding you spies. Sasha has many spies and decoys, and can Steal one card. Use these for your own benefit let Sasha recycle spies so that you can use them yourself.
4. spies are worth points and you want them to be on your half of the board at the end. There are 8 spies in this match and six are worth points. In this video I only got 2/6 spies, which is not good. There are tricks to manipulating Sasha into feeding you spies, such as inviting her to Steal a spy from your discard pile, scorching her spies, and generally ensuring that she uses her Medic cards on spies and not anything else.
Note that although Sasha has 3 scorches, she has no bad Weather effect cards. You can avoid the scorches by playing low point cards first so that a scorch would hurt her. She will not play it. If you've already beaten the Tournament quest, it's still possible to score 490+ rounds against random end-game merchants who use Nilfgaard decks.

In real life a Nilfgaard player probably wouldn't use all of its spies and then pass. It's a quirk of the AI to do that and it's usually a bad tactic since it means you're using up your turns while the opponent is not using any turns. The best time to play a spy is as a do-nothing-turn to force the opponent to make an action. In real life there would probably be more weather cards used, too!
AI is kind of dumb, villentretenmirth could've wrecked your blue stripes commando set (if she hadn't passed) but she bombs it at such an early point
+nickolas474 but she doesn't know what I have and I purposely populate the combat row last to trick her into wasting it. of course I would still win even if she scorches the commandos, except with a smaller margin
AFGuidesHD if this was real life when he passed like a dumbass in the first round the opponent would've just place 1 card and won the round instead of throwing it with all those spies, which were much better if they were played the next round.

I think he is referring to the achievement 'Killed It' where you have to win with a total of at least 187 points.
It's insane how CD PR made probably the greatest minigame ever put into a videogame. How many minigames can say they incented the creation of their own standalone game? Personally I prefer the in-game Witcher 3 version of Gwent, and I don't even know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.
A minigame for Warcraft gave the incentive to create World of Warcraft. So yeah.

Connor Sutcliffe i 100% agree with you. the in-game gwent is much more simple, quick and direct. its an abstract game card unlike the spin-off gwent game which is another copy of hearthstone with lots of unnecessary details and animations, nothing more.
I prefer witcher 3 version as well. the standalone is way too complex. I love the simplicity of the minigame more.
Arcomage from Might and Magic is an awesome minigame too.

You were so lucky that the NPC never played at least one weather card. Normally they stick to them till the end and hit you exactly were it hurts most.
I don't think she carries any weather cards (she prefers Scorches), but in general the idea is to save your power cards for last so she is usually leading, therefore playing weather would be bad for her. Look again and you'll notice that she's usually in the lead, until the end. Playing weather, even scorch, in most of her turns would hurt her own points more than mine, so she doesn't do it.

I recently tried to do this quest and watching this game made me realize I need to go find many more decoys, Spies, and commandos before I do the gwent tournament.
Nah bro I won pretty early on yes I had to save before each match and this damn bitch took 20 tries but eventually some luck rng for the cards and strategy knowing how the Ai likes to play and I beat her. The next 2 people I couldn’t save the game before fighting them but by the luck of rng I won first try
@@santi_super_stunts2573 I hear everyone saying that Sasha is the hardest opponent, didnt even touch gwent in my first playthrough as i heard you dont keep your cards in NG+ but thought I would give it a try and won on my first try in NG+, didnt even get to skellige before playing the tourney. Probably just a lucky draw against an unlucky draw, but still made me think whats all the fuss about lol

hah I've gotten over 150 one time and I was like "omg im gwent master" now I know I actually suck and am dumb
cycopl just leave hero cards, spies and all cards with special effects (northern realms) minus those 1 point cards and you will run a train against every opponent, win a tournament without any problem (considering you have collected all northern realm and special - non faction cards of course). put 3x decoy and 2x commander's horn and Foltest's ability to clear weather effects. you should be by 27 cards in deck, 9 heroes (without cards from expansions). You probably won't get so many points but believe me - you don't need it, NPCs don't score that high (never did in my game at least) and the only trophy/achievement is for scoring 187+ which you can do easly with the deck I described here :)

@@ayylmao8375 I personally like the monsters deck a lot, especially the strategy that goes like, play all heroes and artillery you have, reserving the summon units and such and a horn, or use double strength melee Eredin as commander, and feel out the first round. If you can, you should also grab any spies the enemy throws at you. Then, simply throw down all the summon melee cards, and use Horn. If the enemy doesn't do a Frost--->Villentretenmerth, you've basically won that round with only 2-3 plays.
That's what I pretty much used the entire game plus the dlcs except for the parts that required me to use specific decks.
NR deck is my favourite. I started with it to get used to it but now can't change my deck.

Initially only 3 were available. 5 were available after patch 1.10, an early patch that came out just before Hearts of Stone DLC. I've heard some players say that recently CDPR has limited them back to 3, but I haven't the game played recently to verify this.

This is my favorite thing to do in gwent. Just absolutely go overkill on opponents for no reason
I can proudly say that after multiple attempts with well placed saves, I completed this quest at level 12! I'm wondering if it scales somewhat or if I just got lucky a few times and my opponents simply got bad hands and I on the other hand got decent ones.
Gwent doesn't scale. You can complete the Gwent decks (minus story-related unique cards) at any point in the game after you've left White Orchard.
There's a setting for Gwent difficulty in the options though.
It most definitely is ai being stupid or not having good cards for most of the time. It's even worse for the dlc tournament cause the newest faction has no spies and has to heavily rely on rng to be good

2 extra became available after patch 1.1. the same merchants sold them a second time.
Which makes it a glitch win then. Merchants aren't supposed to restock cards.
Mostly correct. The extra cards weren't originally there and somehow ended up there after the HoS mega-patch. Tons of players have got 5 of them since they were easy to find/purchase.
I'm not sure that the second statement is strictly correct. IIRC you could buy multiple Decoys from one merchant instead of visiting three merchants separately, and it would just cause the other two merchants not to sell you extras. In a sense he "restocked" by taking the card away from another merchant's stock. This glitch may have something to do with that, since you can only buy 2 extras instead of 3 extras.
I have 5 I also had a toad monster card before I got the dlc after getting the dlc I now have 2 toads

That last round was orgasmic. Building last scraps for my decks atm, but I already can't wait for the 'High Stakes' tournament to play some gwent with Sasha... among other things ;)

in 5:02 why don't put the commannder's horn carte in first ligne ( 277 point X 2)
The line already has a Horn on it (Dandelion, 2pt card) for X 2 bonus. Unfortunately, using a second horn on the same line would not multiply X 4. So I use the horn on another line. By the end all the lines have Horn effect.

It's a bug with NG+
+Hawk123 It's not a bug, it's a feature. You can buy them from the traders. This has always been so, but has only been possible since patch 1.10 and not only in the NG+.
I only found four of them and got the card achievement.
+Meneldhil I think the achievement is for different types of cards, meaning you don't have to get the duplicates.
kretztech Nah. When you reach 3 cards the others vendors should remove any blue stripes from their sell list but its not working properly, you should have the exact same cards as in the normal game mode.
CD Projekt red already adressed the issue and asked for the users a pre bug save file for analysis and a future fix.
Imagine if NPCs had real genuine feelings.
What I'd give to see theirs in this match.
