Challenge should be a morning walk and an evening walk together. This way you can walk in the morning and talk about your plans for the day and then at the end of the day walk and talk about everything that ended up happening that day.
Morning and evening; at least one of them must be with their daughter. They can't just leave her alone at home, sleeping. Greg wakes up very early not Chyna, so when Ada would be at daycare/school it would be a little late for Greg to go and have is morning "decisions walk" since he would have been pretty far in his day already. I don't think Ada would like to walk with them every evening before her bed time, quietly while they ponder about their day.
A good idea but with a few flaws 😉
... I don't really know why I'm writing this, except that it's a good opportunity for me to practice my english in a comment sections. Sorry 😅
I am doing morning and evening walks now. I must say 2 hours of walking really takes it from you. 😊
@Permafrost Productions This is exactly how I would have explained why it wouldn't work.
Morning: No plans
Evening: Nailed it.
Here's something you didn't expect as a reply, RUclips just asked me to rate your comment lol
I tried this. My dog watched me walk in a circle like I was stupid. So then I decided to spend five minutes running around my house, rather than walking. My dog decided it would be fun to chase me, so we’re both getting more exercise 😂
😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thats cute
Aw lol. So cute.
As a mailman, this makes me very proud. Good job guys. I always say that each step gets heavier then the last after 6pm
I feel like this was made much harder by being 1000 steps resulting in you guys hitting 15-20k steps a day, is a bit on the high side for sustainable. I think if the challenge had been like 250 steps an hour it would be much more doable, yet still requires you to walk just a little bit (I think the important thing is not being completely immoveable for 2-3 hours at a time).
I think this is a great idea. Even if it was 500 every 2 hours or something. I'd watch another variation on this video for sure.
This probably is backwards, but seeing you guys try this and decide to quit actually makes me want to try. Like, quitting isn't the end of the world. That's probably basic for most people but as a recovering paralyzed perfectionist it's terrifying and exhilarating at the same time.
I've been doing something similar, but just doing it every 4 hours. I never walk for longer than 25 minutes, and never less than 15. Been able to keep it up for 3 months now. I think the idea you've got is a good one, but it requires some realistic expectations to go along with it.
"I don't feel like running today"
"You know nobody is making you, right"
"Fine, I'll go"
That's some real shit lmao. Every time I ask someone to motivate me to do something and they say I don't have to do it somehow my brain is like "Challenge accepted".
me
In the same way that when we’re told to do something we don’t want to and feel forced
Jocko's procrastination rule is also awesome. ruclips.net/video/67Vp7fTgQ3g/видео.html
reverse psychology
Lol agreed
Chyna is a whole mood. Sometimes watching Craig be so consistent in his exercise especially when he says he doesn't want to go then ends up going and enjoying himself is kind of demotivating to me because I used to be that person. Now I feel Chyna with the "Eh" on being asked if having a great day when you were more active makes you want to do it more
It doesn't help it's -5F/-21c out right now though where I am
Those temperatures are nasty! Stay inside! (There's snow on the ground where I live and I am feeling spicy about it)
After a few years of these challenges, there is going to be a path worn into floor around that kitchen island
Skipping a few hours in the day can be built in to the challenge. Example: get up to walk 10 minutes each once in the morning, once at noon, once afternoon, once in the evening, and once before bed. You get to choose the exact time between daily doings, harder to miss and feel bad about later... Plus you get a refresh each time. Retain the benefits minus the guilt.
I like that idea better. Your body needs time to relax. Not to mention the fact you will be hungry all day from all the walking/ running.
I decided to join you but only doing 500 steps an hour. I do a lot of sedentary activities doing art or reading,,,,,, or watching RUclips videos, so this got me up and moving. I did have to make a couple exception rules when there were times I KNEW I couldn’t get up and walk, like being in a meeting or when I was cooking and couldn’t walk away. I decided I could make it up in the hours before or after the road block but not just throughout the day. My number one rules was that the 500 step goal reset to 0 at the top of each hour. If I can’t get outside, It takes less than 5 minutes on the treadmill at a strolling pace to do 500 steps.
This was the first time I hit more than 10,000 steps a day in years.
in a meeting..... would moving your feet under the table count?
I think if you implemented the routine formed by the Ministry of Silly Walks you would find it much easier to obtain your goals.
Chyna dancing out of frame was so great! :)
Oh man, one time I got so sick of 3-4 long workouts/week that I tried to work out for just 60 seconds every hour. I only managed to do it for a week before burning out, it was absurdly hard. The thing I didn't expect was how hard it was psychologically because the workouts just NEVER ENDED. At least with a regular workout schedule you don't have the next one constantly nagging on you. After that I can't even imagine trying 1000 steps. 😆
How did you manage warm up and cool down, and how did you mix the workout types (cardio, strength, functional/flexibility) and areas?
@@trashAndNoStar It was really informal, no warm up or cool down - a timer would just go off every hour and I would just drop and do as many of a single exercise as possible in 60 seconds (i.e. push-ups, squats, burpees, whatever). It honestly seemed WAY more effective than a handful of long workouts/week, but I didn't have the discipline to keep going. I tried bumping it to every 2 hours, then to every 3 hours... still couldn't sustain it. It was surprisingly hard physically, but even harder mentally.
"Every waking hour"? More like... every... walking hour! :D
I apologize.
That beginning rule - encourages waking up at 5 after the hour, so you don't have to start for 55 minute 🤣
You should check out Beau Miles's video "Running a Marathon, One Mile Every Hour"
Would love to see both your takes on the treadmills for standing desks!
Isn't that basically what Chyna wanted to do?
There was so much I loved in watching this challenge vlog - as someone who walks a lot and tries to do 10k at least a day, it was cute to watch Craig and Chyna try to make this a habit. Their humor and realness is always on point :)
As a stay at home parent, I've tried to structure my day like this before and came to the same conclusions they did. Not feasible, but it definitely helps keep you aware of how active you are.
I appreciate how supportive you are to chyna even though she doesn’t take it as seriously as you do
I hate sitting and watching movies because I have a low attention span, but I do like walking in place while watching movies because my body is focused on moving so my brain can focus on the movie. That's how I've been able to get more steps in the past.
Watching on treadmill
That's why I like TV series.
I really like my Fitbit for that. Instead of 1000 steps every waking hour, I set it up to remind me to do 250steps every hour from 9-5 lol
250 is much easier to achieve and still helps you move around every day
You mentioned a while ago that you might do a video of you learning how to cook, I think that would be amazing, and Chyna would probably love having someone else cooked dinner every night
This is one of my favorite videos! Love seeing you and your family having fun and trying new things.
I'm glad WheezyWaiter's been in more of her videos lately
We need a looping video of Chyna dancing off and on camera
If you've not read Katy Bowman's work on movement, you might find it interesting. I don't resonate with everything she says but her concept of "stacking your life" and creating movement rich environments has been really helpful for me.
Thank you for this comment! I went and looked her up and found a talk she gave. Fascinating stuff.

If the rule is that you have to walk during your "waking" hours, I would be taking SOOO MANY NAPS!!!
This inspired me to aim for 1,000 steps whenever I have an hour where I have energy and time to move. It’s a nice, attainable goal. Although, I won’t try to go for every hour 😉
I gotta tell you, I am really enjoying the daily vlogs. I'm a big fan and find myself looking for your videos
4:33 caught me off guard💀
I wake up everyday attempting to do this challenge. Rarely do I succeed, as life gets in the way, but most definitely reminds me to get up and move. Ultimately, I am moving more as a result so I'll take that as a win.
I hope your sponsors pay you well because you're the only channel I watch where I don't skip through the in-video ads.
Oh yeah, and good job walking for 1,000 hours every time you take a step or whatever
I love your guys banter
i've always wondered how you approach things with such discipline while maintaining self love/self care? i've always gone WAY too far off the deep end with personal authority and as a result, often find it feels mutually exclusive to the means by which i tend to my own wellness.
all of these challenges have a very particular, delicate touch to them. id love to know how do you navigate that
Two things I use to help with this:
Instead of doing a challenge, do an experiment. How does it feel when I do x? Do I like it? What are the pros and cons? Does it make me think of other things in my life differently? Instead of discipline, curiosity. And if it doesn't feel good, bin it off with no guilt - you learned something, hurray!
Try to make your reasons for doing things caring ones. Instead of "I'm going to do 1,000 steps an hour because I should get more exercise or I'm bad", try "I'm going to see how it makes me feel to do 1,000 steps an hour because I've heard that exercise can make you feel good and support your health."
I hope that can work as a starting point.
@@thomasm123 This is a great way to spin things. I'm not competitive really, so challenges tend to turn me off hard and fast. But framing it as an experiment is something I can get behind... I'm going to have to try this for myself to see if it helps with motivation for things I "should do."
@@thomasm123 I think I'm going to try that tomorrow with running.
Chyna looks CRAZY SIMILAR to Serena Joy from the handmaids tale. Luckily not the same personality at all hahaha
6:53 gawd darn it ya'll are too adorably sweet I'ma get the beetus.
Hi Wheezy, as a novice runner I’m very very interested in your running routine. how do you run in the cold? What types of clothing? What time do you start running in the am?
"It's not enough - you gotta make it up!" Loved hearing the guitar riff from Letter to Michael in your video. Driftless Pony Club rocks!!
Brings me joy to hear some DPC in your videos!
Waited the whole video to see 11:10 lol
nice zoo guitar jamz
always look forward to your videos!
Here's a challenge for you, clean bulk for 2 months. What does that entail? Download a calorie tracking app and get within 15g of your protein goals, 30g of your carb goals, and 7/10ths of your fat goals. Tl;dr of my life, I spent 23 years of my life extremely obese, went down 112lbs stayed there for 5 years, and then, with the help of a dietician, I bulked up from a Medium to an XXL. And, I've spent the last two years adjusting my body composition to stay XXL but get my body fat to 17.5%.
The thing I've noticed is, I'm still as energetic as I was when I was skinny but decently more confident with the extra size. I'm not some super emphatic big is best, or toxic gym bro. Clean bulking just helped my self-confidence and I'd be curious if it would help you too.
I think your running should count for your steps in the hour that they are done.
It did, but the extra steps during the run don't roll over to the next hour.
8:05 the fabled lamma in pajamas
I like the idea of this challenge but it just seems too impractical to have it as an everyday rule. I think for days where you know you’re going to be mostly sedentary it’s a good idea. Taking a break every hour and getting steps in during long work sessions at desk sounds alright. But for days like going to the zoo where you’re already getting a ton of steps in fuggedah bout it. Overall I think 45 minutes of concentrated pulp-free exercise would be ideal. Just get it out of the way. *continues eating potato chips off beer belly*
12:02 that comedic timing of the "nah." is perfect (y)
Hey Craig, haven't watched in a really long time. I still remember explosion Wednesday, clones, and the eagle like it was yesterday. Your sense of humor helped me through a lot
I love this content. Thank you!
Might give this a try for a laugh! I do a minimal version already, with a reminder on my phone every, hour for me to get up and move for a couple minutes. It's really helped with aches and pains from working at a desk all day :)
Chyna needs to come up with challenges more often!
I love Henry Vilas Zoo! We used to take our kids every year until last year when we moved from Rockford to Denver.
I've done something similar but with the overall goal to get to 10,000 steps. I found the mental effort harder than the physical. Having to plan around times when you had to sit (like dentist appointments), etc. After more than a year of this every single day, I didn't feel any better generally, didn't sleep better and didn't lose any weight at all. So I relaxed the routine - a lot.
That’s a bummer. 10K is supposed to be the magic number, too.
It's so weird seeing you guys at my at my favorite zoo. It's almost like youtubers are real people who live in actual places, what a mind trip.
This is awesome! You guys walking in a circle in the kitchen is what I do when I'm manic. I average 17,000 steps a day during episodes. Kudos on doing it, really impressed! :)
Instead of setting a goal for a number of steps every hour, which as you found out, isn't easy to achieve sometimes, set a goal for number of steps per day or going for one or two long walks a day, something more achievable, especially if your busy and are unable to do it at a particular time. I have a weaker right leg and I after going to physiotherapy for it, I was given different exercises to do every day, which I am doing. On top of that I have made a challenge for myself to walk up and down my stairs a number of times every day when I am at home which I find walking up hills or stairs a bit harder than walking along flat ground.
There are 14 steps on my house stairs. I walk from the very bottom to the top or very top to the bottom once, I count that as 1 full climb. My goal is to reach 700 full climbs in day then to 700 climbs all at one go when I am able to do that. That is about 9,800 steps I will have walked up and down the stairs in day on top of the other times I have to walk upánd down the stairs when I am at home.
At first I was only about to reach about 30 full climbs or about 500 steps consistently before needing a short break, Now, less than a week later I can walk 50 full climbs or 700 steps in a few minutes than start to feel it a little. Aiming for 100 full climbs at once or 1,400 steps of running up and down the stairs, not walking. Then I can do that 7 times a day (if I am at home and or not busy to be able to do that) and reach my 9,800 steps.
They've done this before, and it's the thing that most recommend doing. Chyna's purpose for this goal was to promote more regular movement throughout the day. The end result was to be less sedentary, not to hit x steps per day.
Thanks for making this video! I love you both together
Ya know … you are the only creator where I watch the sponsor spiel all the way through every time. I hope your sponsors compensate you with the amount of effort you put in and the subsequent eyeballs hanging around in mind. Those were some awkwardly worded sentences 😳💚👍
Yeah, This seems really hard unless you’re just on your feet all day anyway. But then you wouldn’t need the challenge. I turned off my hourly alerts for this very reason.
I like the idea of shorter challenges for sanity. Then you can do crazier things.
This is a good challenge. I like to do "cleaning rounds" (each round is 6 minutes). I tried to do 2 rounds every hour which was helpful for awhile to spread out the cleaning chore but I discovered it was better to just give myself a goal for the entire day. I still try to do some every hour but many times I do want to do a whole bunch at one time to free up my time later, it feels like a reward. Like going for a run has a reward if you don't have to keep doing 1000 steps/hour for the next several hours.
hi there! Big fan, also love the lettuce podcast (tho not the devil’s lettuce podcast, no sir 🙃)
I am personally struggling to get myself to do 15-20k steps a day, cause I don’t always have walking destinations and don’t always get enough sleep. also for part of my day I ride my bike for 8-12 miles (50-90 min or so)… I think about my 74yo coworker tho who claims she does 3,000 steps a day when she wakes up, and she seems great for her age! Do you think having a specific goal for a specific time of day can be better and more attainable than most? i would love to see like a 5k step early morning challenge attempted (heck I’d even do it with you)
OMG I love your fridge...fridge envy.
Now you just have to recreate that first day. Maybe one day per week is step day? rotating daily routines?
How long does it take to walk 1000 steps?
You guys are so cute to watch together.
I feel Chyna on all this. When I start a step challenge (or most daily exercise challenges), I’m in love at the start and then it instantly feels impossible and makes me feel 100x worse. I think it’s a women thing to need extra recovery and a variation of intensity levels of workouts if we’re talking day-to-day workouts (sometimes that’s even impossible, rest days in between have become crucial). Thanks for this challenge though and Chyna your hair is GLOWING (and the rest of you per usual 💁🏼♀️)
It can be a mental thing too. I have adhd so the repetition and being beholden to the clock would mess with me but also yes recovery is important.
The zoo music is fantastic
Hey Craig! Love your videos!! Keep vlogging!!! But I have a question, do you still journal?/have you journaled since that challenge?
How long did each thousand take?
I want to know the same answer? I know a lap around Walmart is about 1500 steps and you can do it in around 5 minutes. (From someone who has worked there and tried to kill the last 10 minutes on the clock.) 😂
What does she do for work?
I wonder if this channel was recommended to me bc of the taskmaster vibes, but anywho, great challenge. might be more sustainable with a more condensed bout of excercise, like a couple minutes of jumping jacks every hour, or every _sedentary_ hour specifically, like in the middle of a meeting, or a night out: "excuse me, i need to squeeze in my jumping jacks". in fact, gonna try this today.
i just know if i did that much walking on flat flooring, my feet would be killing me, hope you lot are tougher than that XD
I love how different chyna and Craig are
I’ve been a trainer in my life and I know people hate to complicate things but if you guys just danced, play a game of twister, or just walk around on all fours like a dog or bear.😅😁
Y’all would spend less time and burn more… also another video idea. Haha
In basic at Ft, Benning, we had to bear crawl and crab walk around the bay we lived in (inside) until the floor was soaked in sweat. It was the worst physical training I’ve ever been involved in. There were a lot of tough days but that one was bad. Indeed those types of locomotion are smokers.
@@udonenomee2117 Sounds intense! Glad you made it through man.💪 Those animal locomotions are crazy 🐻 🦀 🔥
Hahaha love the end “no” I searched for your video because this is some thing I started to do today and wondered who else has tried this and I found your video. Very enjoyable
Wheezy Craiger! How long does it take to do 1000 steps? Kept waiting for that piece of information.
About ten minutes.
This is the week we slept 18 hours a day 😂😂😂😂 I would just focus on a morning & afternoon/ post dinner walk. Moving every hour is hard when you are working or doing chores. I love the concept.
That's why I keep a peddle bike under my desk all day as I work. I do 20-30 minutes every hour which is between 2000-3000 steps an hour. By the end of the day, I can average 15000 steps. It's great.
Hello i love your sunglasses! Cute that you have the same pair. Where did you buy them?
They're from Eyebuydirect and they're actually both my pairs. I am trying to convince Craig to be a sunglasses guy. He's lucky I have an extra pair.
Why not change the challenge slightly, instead of every hour you're awake, change it to: Hour you rather take a nap, or in between big tasks (like when there's a lull in activity, fill it with being active). so that way, you get the full option to stay energized in the day, get some exercise in each hour you're awake, and it doesn't interfere with actual plans. (or if you you have to do something while sitting, see if you can incorporate squatting, or standing every 5-10 mins, or at least changing positions, so you're sitting for 10 mins, standing for 10 mins, and back to sitting for 10 mins, keeps the blood flowing?) something to that extent, I always feel like people make challenges too extreme, instead of finding a middle ground that is easier to pick up, and you can increase it over time if you get too used to it, or revert to a base version if you're ill or healing or something.
Doing 2000 every 2 hour mark, so 1000 at the end of the first hour and 1000 at the start of the second hour would probably be a way to overcome if you have a busy day.
COMPLETELY unrelated: Craig & Chyna - would mind sharing where you got your pendant gloves that are hanging in the kitchen? I have been looking for that style for our 1955 MCM home!
Man be walking like every day is get the buckets of water from the nearby village well everyday.
My smart watch notifies me if I dont get 250 steps in an hour. It give me a 10 min warning before the hour is up. Much more attainable and prevents me from being lazy all day or when I'm at work, prevents me from sitting all day
well, you could reduce the number of steps. like to 500 per hour. or 200. you know to something more sustainable, maybe something that would take about 5 minutes to achieve.
peoples get motivated by different things... and different modes of action move people differently 2:25
I have a treadmill desk and a computer based job - pretty amenable to this challenge for at least 9hrs a day. I’m gonna try it!
Maybe try making it a game with points, rather than a strictly pass/fail thing. More allowance for life happening that way.
You get 10 points for every 250 steps in an hour. You also get extra points for your longesr streak of the day. If you get 250+ steps two hours in a row, then you get an additional 10% bonus points. For 250+ steps three hours in a row, you get 20% bonus points. For four in a row, you get 30%, and so on. Max 8 hours per day. The one with the most points at the end of the week wins.
Though you may need a handicap rule to balance out Craig's running. Maybe for the hour(s) he runs, he earns 10 points a mile instead of 10 points per 250 steps?
I love his wife!
Zoo!
The awkward dance off shot. 😂
I like this idea as a once a week or maybe once every 2 hours thing
The eye roll and heavy sigh could be my favourite part of any Wheezy video yet...
Are you a daily vlogger now? The content is pumping!
do you guys have a treadmill? try hiking moderately on an incline for 10 minutes a day for 30 days. then see physical + mental results. I think you'll get similar results :)
I don’t think it’s about the 10,000 steps a day. It’s about being active.
You could achieve that level of activity by cleaning out and organizing your closet.
I had to reorganize my electrical outlets when I installed a new light…bending under tables, on my knees and moving items about.
My mom never did any activity that was sports related or specifically health related and she lived to be 102 with no linger health issues.
BUT she piddle-paddled around the house everyday remaining active.
I have never related to someone so much like I do Chyna hahah! I love it.
I'm so sorry but I found you hitting your hand so damn funny. 😆 It happens to me all the time.
Great video! Maybe a walking desk would help with getting more steps in daily! 🚶🏻♀️🚶🏻♂️😊
