Fellow 5am dad here, it changed my life too. I can guarantee myself time to workout everyday, get a peaceful cup of coffee, read a little bit or just get some work done without affecting anyone else in the house. Whether it's weekdays or weekends I don't mind getting up and barely seeing anyone outside. It's such a peaceful time of day, and I'm never going back!
Jeez you made me realized that I've been watching this dude since 2011 myself or around 17. Also am 28. Was there at the beginning of Chyna and Craig. Good times. Also screw you for making me feel old :}
I'm having trouble wording this . I've been following you for literal years and years . I want to express my appreciation for the in depth cataloguing, allowing for our analysis, of the journey of adulthood. Constantly trying new things with the goal of improvement. It's so multifaceted. Diet. Exercise. relationships. Mental focus and clarity . It's just amazing . It's not always easy . It doesn't always work or stick but at its core... That's life. It's realistic . Every time I watch one of your videos I think to myself, it's not too late to start today. I started watching you in my 20s and now I am 34. And you are a huge source of motivation for me. So simply put, thank you for just being you.
"You are never going to feel like it" that one sentence has helped me get up on time and get stuff done. Waiting to feel awake before you get out of bed is a bad plan. Now that I've accepted that mornings are easier. I'm usually wide awake within about 5 minutes of getting up
@@jhoughjr1 each person is different. I go to bed at 8:30 and wake up at 4:30. Turn all electronics off by 7:30 p.m. and get my 8 hours. But I still struggle the first 5-10 mins after the alarm goes off to feel awake and ready. Every person is different.
I wake up at various times due to my job. 2am twice a week, 4am -8am depending on my shift. I like to be up for at least 2 hours before my shift. Sometimes I get 8 hours, sometimes I get 3 hours, but I'm always able to get up when my alarm goes off. I struggled at first, but now it's not a big deal. Coffee helps, and red bull if I'm struggling.
I appreciate you mentioning how this doesn't always fit everyone's schedules AND how there are people that already HAVE to wake up at 5am for work and such. I feel like that conversation goes wayside to the mysticism of waking up earlier = morally better?
I'm glad you recognize the separation of an opinion of morality in relation to accomplishing a task that typically has hundreds of variables influencing the final progression of events. (I apologize for how wordy that may have been!)
There is no morality associated to any waking up time but yes, I have come across people who wake up at 5AM and even earlier and are super pretentious about that.
I have been waking up at 5am for work for the past couple of years and I hate and I'm still not used to it. But it's also because I have to. When I wake up at 5am naturally on the weekends I feel a lot happier than on the weekdays when I have to
YES. Some folks really do have a weird superiority complex about getting up at X early time, like it's morally better and everyone else is weak willed and lazy. Everyone's lives are different, and their sleep schedules reflect that. For myself, I'm a night shift worker. I'm literally still at work at 5am. But when I get up at 2pm, somehow I'm a lazy person according to some. It's a strange obsession some folks have. I appreciate you mentioning that this doesn't work for everyone, and it's not a choice that everyone even has.
@@soundscape26 There should not be morality associated with it, but there sure as heck is! Early risers tend to be incredibly smug about it. For years, I used to say, "I want to be a morning person," until I finally realized, no, I don't. I want to want to be a morning person. For me, getting up at 10 am would make me a morning person.
Reading the comments makes me realize that you mean a lot to, well, a lot of us. I myself have been watching your videos since 2010. I've commented about this quite a bit but it still hits me hard sometimes how much I enjoy your videos even 12 years later. You are the only one that has survived my subscriber cleanses. Thank you...again.
Those extra hours in the morning are actual magic. It's so serene and quiet and it feels like you can get so much done so quickly because you just woke up and your mind is fresh. But for me at least, it just gave me a depressive episode for a few months because my day was ruined after 11am since I had no energy. Even if I did nothing in the morning other than watch a movie. But dang, I wish I could integrate waking up early in my routine.
Do you drink coffee as soon as you wake up? I am new to waking up early and what I try to do is move around for at least 15 minutes before I drink coffee so by body can try to get rid of the sleepiness without the help of caffeine. This way, I am not as prone to crashing after the coffee stops working. I also drink water too as soon as I wake up.
Getting up before the asscrack of dawn is great- for people whose circadian rhythm fits that schedule. I would rather wake at 9 am, and stay up till 11-12 pm. Getting up at 5 just fucks me up for the rest of the day. I have to keep a bottle of nicotine tablets on my nightstand just to get out of bed, as well as having THREE LIFX timed light bulbs set to gradually brighten from 445 to 5:15.
I totally get that feeling of being awake before the rest of the world, and watching the sun come up and the rest of the world wake up slowly. It's magical.
The reason you hate the cold shower is that you always put your head under right away. Try my routine: First normal warm shower (soap needs warm water to work), then the cold one. Start the cold shower by counting to 30, slowly turning around. But not on the head! Then put your head under for a few seconds, no more. Repeat 3 times and ease out for the last 10 count for a total of 100 count. (count may be seconds, but I don't know because your sense of time slows. Yes, I have tested that). The problem is that you expose your (hairless) scalp too sudden and too long. Try it. In the beginning I kept adding seconds every day until I was under the cold shower 5 minutes, but I found out that count 100 is the right amount for me. There is no gain beyond that besides losing time. Count to 100 is perfect, though.
@@rinnhart Right, cos death aint gonna be comfortable. I do the same, keep the body on its toes, and do the difficult things. ruclips.net/video/Sam5l2inPZY/видео.html
Sometimes in my miniscule life I just like to sit and reflect on the fact there is some guy a million miles away who puts a camera down on a run, runs away from it to get the shot so it looks natural, then probably walks back, checks the footage and reloads if required. I think about what it would look like if you were just hanging in the park. Some guy going back and forth, hoping that it doesn't look like he's going back and forth. It makes me smile. I also appreciate the fact a story is being told, and there is a moral in the story somewhere, and the effort taken to make things look nice for our benefit. Here's to you Craig!
every single "toast" bit made me laugh out loud, thank you very much for that lol I already get up at 5AM every day but didn't want to miss your story! your videos are so high quality- well edited and written, thankyoutyty for your work oh! maybe try Andrew Huberman's NSDR instead of napping? (the neuroscientist that was mentioned during morning sunlight bit) and looking forward to my Tuesletter after work, thanks! good luck continuing your new routine Craig!
I am 24, and have gotten up between 5 and 6 everyday since I got an 'adult' job 2 years ago and I love it. I get to walk the dog and shower and am lucky enough to have the freedom to go in to the office at 7 so I can get done earlier and have more free time in the evening. The trick to sticking with it is just to establish the routine, so even if you're super tired and don't want to get up one morning, you're so used to doing it that you're not easily deterred. Can't wait for the update video!
I do my best to plan my night around getting 8 hours a night. So yeah I try to go to bed around 9.. doesn't always happen but then I pay for it and crash early the next night lol
Seriously, the only thing keeping me from waking up earlier (I wake up at around 7:30) is the darkness. I cannot stand waking up when it's still dark out but joke's on me because pretty soon it'll be dark out until like 9am :) Any tips on how to turn this mindset around are welcome!
I struggle with that in the winter, too. I got an alarm clock that mimicks the sunrise. Its not magic, but nice. What actually helps me, is romanticising the coziness. A tea, meditating under a blanket, thinking of the darkness as aligned with the silence, which i really enjoy. :)
I agree, waking up in the dark is not great, but that's the reality for most people in winter. I used to work in the film industry and every morning was up in the dark, even in summer. I did get to see some spectacular sunrise's and sunsets. My all time favourite sunrise was outside Etosha national park in Namibia 🌄🌄🌄🌄🌄🌄. We had to wait for the rangers to open the gates for the camera crew.
I have some fairy lights on the railings outside the kitchen window, on a timer to come on at 0500. They cheer me up in the dark. I also have a sunlight lamp I have on while I'm doing my daily journalling.
"I cannot stand waking up when it's still dark" - Same. Doesn't work for me. In the winter it gets close but I'm not at a very high latitude so it's quite brief.
It's the lure of instant gratification vs. delayed gratification. Example: if you eat a clean diet, you may have to wait a while before you begin to see changes in your body. But with that pizza or donut, gratification is just one bite away. Also, old habits and routines are deeply ingrained, so it is easy to fall back into them, like old wagon wheel ruts.
I also struggle with sticking to routines -- although ironically not a morning one, since I wake up at 5am for work. A mantra my therapist recommended was "I will come back to center." Reshma Saujani, the CEO of Girls Who Code, also wrote in her book Brave Not Perfect to add "yet" to a pessimistic thought: "I am not an early riser... yet." As a recovering perfectionist, these thoughts help me a good deal.
You are such a great storyteller. I get up at 4:45am but it’s not by choice, it’s so I can get out of work in time to pick up my kids from school. I love being able to do that but hate how tired I am and I don’t get the benefit of the extra workout time in the morning. I also crash on the weekends.
The tip about sunlight first thing in the morning isn't wrong - it just isn't achievable for quite a lot of the world during winter. I normally wake up about 6.30 (kids) and being in darkness/gloominess for the first 90mins on a December or January morning ain't much fun.
@@therabbithat I don't have a special super bright bulb or anything but I have a lamp on a timer that turns on just before my alarm goes off. It helps a little bit.
@@therabbithat and they're so (relatively) cheap now! My SAD and overall sleeping has improved so much! (And this is now on a decade scale I think. Damn) Melatonin at night, lamp and vitamin D (after talking to my doctor about it) in the morning!
Turn the lights in in your house if the sun isn't out. The sun is still better than artificial lights even if it's behind cloud cover. Andrew huberman talks about this along with waiting an hour before having caffeine so you don't crash earlier in the day.
Just wow. The script and the production values, usage of music during transitions and transitions in general, all of it was very well done. I like seeing glimpses into your daily life and uplifting relationship. I really enjoy this video format. I love your work. Thank you for your efforts and passion!
Hi Craig, Happy Belated Birthday! I love your videos. I am a nurse who starts work at 6am so I get up at 5am. I get dressed while my coffee is brewing and my dog associates (like Pavlov's) the smell of coffee with her morning walk, so she waits at the front door, ready to go. We walk just a couple of block but it's always beautiful to look up at the moon and stars and realize how small we are in this vast universe. Anyhoo, Love your channel and keep up the good work!
Still going a year sober ? I'm 10months and 11days sober myself thanks to you guys and raised £400 so far for charity. Just a few months to go and personally I feel my relationship with alcohol has completely changed. I've also lost over 50lbs in weight. Thanks again for the inspiration 🙏 🙌 ❤
Congrats! I'm so proud of you! Alcoholism ruined generations of my family, so I am always super excited to hear anybody, even non-alcoholics, doing the difficult work of gaining a healthier relationship with alcohol. It can be so hard, but it's important! Keep up the good work!
I love this video… My goal is to wake ip at 6:30. I am terrible at it. But I’ll renew this goal. Mostly I want to do exercise, eat a healthy brekafast and do 30 minutes of cleaning in the morning. If I succeeded at that, that’d be great! Also…as I struggle with infertility…seeing how grown your daughter is already made me shed some tears. You guys have a beautiful family!
I literally decided today that I'm going to wake up at 5am, perfect timing. I'm excited for the notification, just in case I miss my alarm 😬 can't wait for your video!
5 am is my start time too and I never want to go back to anything later. I don’t use earbuds or headphones so I can see AND hear the town wake-up. Give it a try if you haven’t. It’s my favorite time of the day and I look forward to it now. My routine has similar components: wake, pray, walk, kids, food, get ready etc. it was good to watch yours.
I appreciate when you do these videos, it's always that gentle push to do better in my life:) I've been going to sleep at 9pm these past few weeks (mainly bc there's nothing on telly and it's freezing in my room) and it's made such a difference to my productiveness AND mood swings. Which is impressive cos I've been inconsistent with my meds 😅 But I'm very much team "fuck cold showers" , medicated or not. Nothing quite like being just the right temperature and the luxury of a warm towel when you get out of a warm shower... 👌
Yes, that's the part of his routine I have no idea why he subjects himself to. It's a fad, nothing more. Doesn't mean you have to take a super long hot shower of course.
Well it is actually better for the skin & the hair (hot showers can lead to increased eczema for instance) Most importantly tho, it puts you out of your comfort zone 1st thing in the morning. I think that's a very good cure for morning lazyness, after having to do cold ones for a couple of weeks I got hooked on the feeling of it However I get why it can be perceived very differently 😄
Belated happy birthday to you! It is really nice to have that quiet time to yourself in the morning. I've recently started getting up at or before 6a to get my time to myself and still have breakfast with my grandma before I start work. Also, love the dad jokes. 😂
I loowve how you’ve FINALLY found something that works for you (at least as long as you enjoy it). I’ve been watching this channel for a long time and i’m just so thankful for the moment of ‘pain and discomfort’ that you chose to keep in the video. I’m in loowve with how realistic this channel is
as others have mentioned, I’ve been watching you for longer than I can even recall. Probably some 10 years. It’s wild to see how the world has changed and how far you and all of us have come along the way. Makes me super happy to see you living your life with your family. Best wishes, Craig!
I’ve always stayed up late because I felt like day wasn’t enough after coming back from work. But now that I’m not in my early 20s anymore I put myself in bed by 10 and force myself to sleep and wake up at 6AM every day. My mood has been better, I feel more productive at work and don’t feel like wanting to murder my clients. I used to drink cups and cups of coffee to keep my energy up but now I enjoy one good cup a day in the morning and its one of the things I look forward to in the early mornings. Feels like I got my life together finally.
The tough thing is the grogginess in the afternoon... I have to wake up at 4.40 am and yes it's nice to come home when you effectively have half a day still ahead but if you collapse on the couch at 14.30 it's no bueno. Also I'm one of those people who find it difficult to go to sleep properly early, like 21.15 or so (as my dad used to do)
Your sponsor bit reminded me of the video you made years ago where you just sat there for like 10 minutes and encouraged us to just talk to you. And I remember pausing is and just pouring my heart out to a RUclips video for half an hour. It was really cathartic ngl
Thank you Craig, as a fellow 42 year old father who has been going though a lot, I 2 have been looking at ways to better understand and improve my life. I have been able to learn from your journey to help mine. While I can not join the fabulous beard club, and I only made it 3 days of cold showers, I have been a subscriber and fan for many years now and I wanted to write that down. Thank you.
I love getting up early at about 4:30am and getting stuff done when I can. But my problem is making sure I go to bed early for at least 10pm... When you think about it, what do we do with our evenings? Usually we waste this time in chilling out in front of the TV because we have reached the end of our strength for that day. But when we give these wasted hours to the morning we do more healthier and productive things. Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.
The thing that trips me up in the evenings is meeting up with friends virtually, most of my IRL friends over the years have spread out to the point physically meeting up requires a lot of travelling so we've all taken to Discord and doing watch parties or playing games that go on into the night and then I'm buggered for going to bed and getting up early. What I really need is the day to be 26hrs long that way I can get enough sleep and get stuff done early and still have a day. Just realised this turned into a mini-rant, so thanks for reading that and I hope you have a grand day!
This makes me want to recapture this schedule. I'm currently flipped (sleep through morning, wake up mid afternoon) and while it provides nice long stretches of quiet, it feels lonelier somehow.
This is so awesome. I always enjoy your style of vlogging. I'm currently making myself a morning person as well. I have 5 kids who I've been homeschooling since birth. I can no longer afford to linger around in bed and get nothing done! I love and NEED the extra quiet time.
I loved the whole routine except there is NO way I would do a cold shower every morning. Doesn't help that I have circulation issues. But you do you! Awesome video as always.
I fell asleep like ten minutes after I got the pemiere notification for this. Glad to watch it after a solid 8-ish hours and getting my own post-waking routine stuff done!
Really like how this is edited! And the self motivation you have is inspirational. I'm not a morning person but do realize how much I can do when I get up earlier. It's a balance for sure.
I adored this video. So peaceful and funny and pleasant. I've been following for so many years. Ada's talking now. I loved that you said "Okay!" and the camera turned off the instant she said, "Come here, Daddy!" Thanks for making vids and sharing.
Fellow early waker in Wisconsin! Continuing to do this through the seasons is difficult with the changing sun risings, but rewarding. 5am light snowfalls with no sound and then watching the sun come up are certainly something special, but just as much as the buzzing and early morning sense you get in the summer, especially around a campfire.
I love your videos. Filmed/edited so well and always relatable and make you laugh :) I’m really struggling to get into my gym routine since I started working 9-5 I have to start my early morning routine but it’s still so cold here! Wish me well!
Army here, being forced into the 5AM routine was probably the best thing for me. I get everything done, have a metric fuck ton of coffee, workout, shower, then go to work. It's nice coming home to minimal work because you've already done most of it. Makes life so much easier.
I'm getting through a sports injury right now and feeling pretty grumpy and frustrated but your vids literally make me laugh out loud, so thank you for that 👊
I think this is one of the best videos you have. It has the right amount of humour, right amount of serious moments with your self reflection and comments, great music choice and filmed very well too. I really really enjoyed this. I hope you manage to keep this schedule up, good luck!
i myself am in the process of getting used to a new routine and every time i falter, i get disappointed with myself. but i remind myself that Rome wasn't built in a day and that everything takes patience ❤️ also, running while seeing the sun rise is one of the most amazing feelings! goodmorning! 😍
I've been waking at 4.30am for years. I make my bed and have a cold shower. Trust me, after 20 years of doing this routine, I can say, this shit works. It's a tough routine to stick to especially on cold dark mornings , but I personally think it's one of the best things I ever did.
I think your morning routine sounds great for someone who works from home, and doesnt have to spend a long time on transportation. However, I did wonder about Aaaalll the steps - how long does it take? You run every morning AND work out? And meditate? AND journal? like... If I could just do one 15 minutes yoga session every morning I would be happy xD
People forget that the monks who make these routines have no true responsibilities and society won't come knocking on their door if they don't do something in time. These routines are for monks, and monks are using them to try and get others to relate to them. But that's inherently wrong
I don’t think big city folks realize that this is a routine possible almost anywhere outside of their massive metro areas. A 5 mile drive takes 5-8 minutes in my small city, so I could wake up at 6am and work out before I head to work.
So my mentor (81 years old) swears by this early morning routine. I appreciate the schedule you provided. Sometimes I feel like I wake up and stare into nothingness while my body yells at me.
In my opinion this is your best video of 2022! Loved watching it and guess what? I am totally trying out that bfast tomorrow. I will noodle on the idea of waking up at 5am and doing all the things. Genius!
As someone who has always woken up early naturally, I'm glad you didn't hate this! I fully agree I love the feeling of getting more time to get things done and not feel super rushed or stressed. Granted sometimes it's because my cat wakes me up at 4am, but normally it's a 5.30am start
I think this video has pushed me into deciding to do the same. Ive been slowly pushing to wake up earlier again. I always hate it when i have to get up, but being awake early in the morning when no one else is and its nice and quiet and im all alone with my thoughts and coffee, especially in the autumn when the mornings are chilly, is one of my favorite things ever
Watching you repeat challenges that were helpful once but didn't stick is very encouraging. It's a great reminder that growth and healing aren't linear, setbacks are normal and becoming the all seeing all knowing space baby at the center of the universe doesn't happen overnight.
I just found this channel today & it's life changing. I'm immediately starting this type of routine. At 46 I actually feel motivated after watching this. Thank you creator of this video!
First of all, happy Life the Universe and Everything birthday! Second, while I cherish and appreciate your advice as my personal life coach, I'm pretty sure there's no way in hell I will A) get up at 5 am on purpose on a regular basis and 2) take a cold shower (on purpose on a regular basis). The rest may be doable. Really enjoyed your family interactions on this one. I have also been doing that lately. Thanks for sharing!
Wow I haven’t seen your content in years, I’m glad this got recommended. I think I watched you before I was in highschool, and now I’m 27, but maybe I’m misremembering (the time I started watching you, not my age). You were definitely an actual waiter at the time, doing handstands until your wallet falls out, and Chyna was nowhere to be seen. Crazy how things change! I think I’m now about the age you were when I found your content. Crazy to think about! Glad to see you’re crushing it harder than ever, you have a beautiful life with a beautiful family.
Let us know how the routine's holding up in the long run. In the cold. Cold shower. My SO and father of my children (Aida's age) has a similar disposition as you and basically is trying all the things, all the time, to fix himself (mostly sleep). Thanks for what you do!!!
Your life is really…comforting to watch. You have a great house, someone you love, and can comfortably raise a child. Its peaceful. I work nights so this is really a 180 view of my life.
I found out on accident that I love waking up at 5AM when I was about 26 and have done it ever since. Especially when going for a run the super early morning are indeed amazing. Recently life got extremely chaotic and I lost my 5AM rhythm, but I'm really going to get back to it as soon as work allows. It's much better than people might think..
you're so inspiring. and I have a bunch of sleep issues too so I'm tempted to try this (again because I've done it before) but it's so freaking hard to get up early when I don't have to. I wish I could jump to the part where it's already feeling good to do so. And I hope it works with other workouts than running because I truly hate running
I feel you!! I’m not a morning person neither is my wife. I think a morning routine is better all in all but my nightly routine consists of a small workout, vitamins, journal, sending my business coaches a voice recorder update and then I time block my next day so I spend less time thinking about “what” to do. Hope that helps!
I've tried to have an 0500 morning routine for years but it's actually stuck over the last year or so. I've been able to do reflective journalling consistently for the first time in my life, and I can get more creative work done before exigencies of the day job intrude. I sleep better, and I cope with jet lag better (based on two tests so far). The thing I find helps me most first thing is light. I have timed fairy lights on railings outside the kitchen window to cheer me up on the darkest mornings, and a sunlight lamp on my desk while doing my journalling. I hope the routine sticks for you too. It seems to suit your routines.
I watched this at 4 am pacific time, having not yet gone to bed. You have reawakened my desire to both go to bed, and get up early. In my late thirties I seem to have developed a certain strength of will that mid-twenties me always assumed would be there for me when I needed it. "I don't have to build that skill, I'll just turn it on when life demands it of me," I thought. Hmm . . . no, it seems. I am finding it easier to build new skills than I thought it would be, though. Have I wasted time not developing myself earlier, or am I now finding it easier to do so because I understand the significance and purpose of that development? How many years did I waste, or how many lessons do I draw upon, now? How many licks to the center of a tootsie pop? The world may never know. . . . 3. Yes I know it was three, but there are no existential short cuts. The owl cheated.
This is very interesting. Is it the time that's caused the biggest improvement? If you kept everything the same but woke up at 7am or something, would that change anything? In the video you said you liked running and I assume being up and about before everyone else. That obviously would change if you woke up at 7am but is the the main thing?
A few months ago I started getting up an hour earlier to workout and it's just nice to have that off my mind. Who knows, maybe I'll just keep adding time to get more goals accomplished. Good luck making this your forever routine
I just started waking up at 7:45 consistently after having really bad sleep for years (still do, but I'm hoping the consistent wake up time will help) I'm definitely going to start including some of your morning routines into mine. I definitely feel better using my morning to get extra free time than my evening. also, who am I waiting on to poop? me!
I've been toying and occasionally trying to wake up at 5 am daily for a few years now, I'm really curious how it impacted you and if you’re going to keep the habit. Waiting for the clock to turn 1 pm here in Romania. Can't wait! ☺️
Nice Olan Rogers shirt, Craig. I was eyeing the red bear design myself but I snoozed on it and it sold-out. So I am red with envy *winks in Wheezy* Regardless of that, I loved this video. This is one of your best yet and that's saying something because all of your content inspires me in some way. The framing shots throughout, the use of the morning audio (it's so ambient!), the gentle scenes with your wife and daughter, your meditation on aging and your birthday appropriately intertwined. Oh so good. My best friend has started the 5am routine recently and she's disgusted with herself because it really is that life-changing. We love to hate on the insane humans who can force themselves to wake that early with regularity but this routine may genuinely hold the secret to happiness. Ugh. I'm gonna need to do this to myself, huh?
I love the metaness of releasing this at 5 am

And you are a huge source of motivation for me. So simply put, thank you for just being you.
"You are never going to feel like it" that one sentence has helped me get up on time and get stuff done. Waiting to feel awake before you get out of bed is a bad plan. Now that I've accepted that mornings are easier. I'm usually wide awake within about 5 minutes of getting up
Same here. Snooze is a trap.
Thing is when u get the proper sleep, you will just wake up and one up. As soon as my eyes open, I feel awake and jump out of bed.
@@civilwarwasaninsidejob7405 That sounds bloody awful.
This video feels weirdly zen, it's not as chaotic as some others feel and it leaves me feeling peaceful but slightly disturbed at the same time 😄
Disturbed because of the eggs and beans 🤣🤣
Muneeb Khan, I feel the same way. I wish I could do this too.
6 am is better. You’ll get tired around noon instead of 11 am
I personally think getting up in the dark is quite depressing. Dawn is the perfect time.
I was up at 4:45am for about 25 years for work. I’m retired now and absolutely don’t miss it.
I totally get that feeling of being awake before the rest of the world, and watching the sun come up and the rest of the world wake up slowly. It's magical.
I'm more balanced now but I used to like the exact same opposite... watching everybody going to sleep and things getting slowly quieter.
I don't agree, I really prefer a cold shower from top to bottom. I use this period to also reflect upon death.
@@rinnhart Right, cos death aint gonna be comfortable. I do the same, keep the body on its toes, and do the difficult things.

This turned out great. I really like the vlogginess as a change of pace. I'm surprised how much it changed your sense of humor, but I like it!
Thanks, Dustin. For anyone confused here at the premiere watch page, Dustin saw the video because he's a patron on Patreon!
@@wheezywaiter oh that's a cool incentive and your trailers will encourage mroe to do this no doubt! keep up the good work!
Ope. Didn't even realize I did something strange. On my end, it just looks like any other video.
Here's to you Craig!
every single "toast" bit made me laugh out loud, thank you very much for that lol
I already get up at 5AM every day but didn't want to miss your story! your videos are so high quality- well edited and written, thankyoutyty for your work
oh! maybe try Andrew Huberman's NSDR instead of napping? (the neuroscientist that was mentioned during morning sunlight bit)
and looking forward to my Tuesletter after work, thanks!
good luck continuing your new routine Craig!
I can’t help but wonder if this only works for people who sleep like 5-6 hours.
Cause I sleep 8,5 which means I would have to be in bed by 8.30.. 😅
I do my best to plan my night around getting 8 hours a night. So yeah I try to go to bed around 9.. doesn't always happen but then I pay for it and crash early the next night lol
This is already my life. It's nice to be ahead of Wheezy for a change.
I love that Chyna keeps making you ask what she’s eating and it’s always toast! 😆
Oh, and a belated happy birthday to you! 🥳
Seriously, the only thing keeping me from waking up earlier (I wake up at around 7:30) is the darkness. I cannot stand waking up when it's still dark out but joke's on me because pretty soon it'll be dark out until like 9am :)
Any tips on how to turn this mindset around are welcome!
Get better lighting in the room you do most of your morning in. Try to get warm lighting that mimics sunlight.
I would love a video on why good habits/routines that we enjoy and know make us feel good are still so hard to keep up in the long term!
Buy a lamp.
That sounds sarcastic but you can buy a 10,000 lux lamp that tricks your brain into thinking about it's sunny.
Damn)
Melatonin at night, lamp and vitamin D (after talking to my doctor about it) in the morning!
Turn the lights in in your house if the sun isn't out. The sun is still better than artificial lights even if it's behind cloud cover.
Andrew huberman talks about this along with waiting an hour before having caffeine so you don't crash earlier in the day.
That's because this routine is for monks. It works for absolutely no one else. It's unrealistic and can even be damaging to others
Just wow. The script and the production values, usage of music during transitions and transitions in general, all of it was very well done. I like seeing glimpses into your daily life and uplifting relationship. I really enjoy this video format. I love your work. Thank you for your efforts and passion!
mega nice mellow video, loved the repetition, because thats what most people lack of, just doing good stuff thats helping you over and over :D
The comments are full of people inspired to wake up early but I am just staring at this video and thinking “how terrible not even if you paid me”
Still going a year sober ?
5:03 is the cutest thing! I started crying. That was so sweet, you are so blessed.
I appreciate when you do these videos, it's always that gentle push to do better in my life:)
I've been going to sleep at 9pm these past few weeks (mainly bc there's nothing on telly and it's freezing in my room) and it's made such a difference to my productiveness AND mood swings. Which is impressive cos I've been inconsistent with my meds 😅
But I'm very much team "fuck cold showers" , medicated or not. Nothing quite like being just the right temperature and the luxury of a warm towel when you get out of a warm shower... 👌
Yes, that's the part of his routine I have no idea why he subjects himself to. It's a fad, nothing more. Doesn't mean you have to take a super long hot shower of course.
Well it is actually better for the skin & the hair (hot showers can lead to increased eczema for instance)
Most importantly tho, it puts you out of your comfort zone 1st thing in the morning. I think that's a very good cure for morning lazyness, after having to do cold ones for a couple of weeks I got hooked on the feeling of it
However I get why it can be perceived very differently 😄
I love how Chyna answers with "toast" after asking if you wanna ask what she ate for breakfast. She's adorable
I’m in loowve with how realistic this channel is
Happy Birthday! This video is inspiring, I like how you don't sugar coat the day to day, but still explain how impactful the whole process is!
man the pace of this video is sooo mellow and refreshing and just chill progress... big thumbs up
Curious about how. you will adjust your routine for winter when a run outside and sun in the morning is harder to come by. Great video as always.
Thanks for this. I needed a reminder of getting up early and be Me in the morning before the day starts.
as others have mentioned, I’ve been watching you for longer than I can even recall.
Good morning Craig. I recently changed my schedule to get up at 330 and get to work early so I can pick the kiddos up from school. It's great.
Your dad humour makes me smile every time, also roll my eyes. Keep doing what you're doing. Kia ora e hoa.
Happy Birthday Craig!🎉 Nice to spend some time as a vicarious early riser.
This is my favorite new channel. I am turning 40 this year and I’m finding myself watching so many of your videos and thinking YES!
Awesome video as always.
i heard that ice baths and stuff are actually helpful for that if its causes by imflamation
I never wanted this to end. I could have watched for hours
I'm getting through a sports injury right now and feeling pretty grumpy and frustrated but your vids literally make me laugh out loud, so thank you for that 👊
Me toooo!! ❤
12:36 My dog Bean! Love the Vid...Great inspiration for me as I prep to be a dad of 2 instead of 1.
I've been waking at 4.30am for years. I make my bed and have a cold shower. Trust me, after 20 years of doing this routine, I can say, this shit works. It's a tough routine to stick to especially on cold dark mornings , but I personally think it's one of the best things I ever did.
Same here, nearly 10 years now because of my work schedule. But I extended it to days off too.
Nice. I only let myself have a hot shower after I have an ice bath, otherwise it's only cold showers all year round
I absolutely love the feeling of recognizing how beneficial all of these things are, and then doing none of them.
Agreed! If I wanted to get all that done before I head to work, I’d have to get up way earlier than 5am.
This was really inspiring. There was a short period of my life when I got up naturally around that time, and it was *fantastic*.
I’m jealous your kid hadn’t made it a routine to wake up everyone in the house at around 5 whether you want to or not.
Watching you repeat challenges that were helpful once but didn't stick is very encouraging. It's a great reminder that growth and healing aren't linear, setbacks are normal and becoming the all seeing all knowing space baby at the center of the universe doesn't happen overnight.
Maybe I just miss the daily vlogs but this video was particularly stellar and fun to watch.
I have a 5:30 routine. It involves putting on my boots and going to work. But seriously, I'm glad it brings you joy that you can share with others.
This was honestly so relaxing and realistic morning routine. Honestly want to try this schedule except minus the cold showers haha!
I just found this channel today & it's life changing. I'm immediately starting this type of routine. At 46 I actually feel motivated after watching this. Thank you creator of this video!
You’re welcome, Johnny Cash.
Your videos are filled with cleverness to the max.
Loved how chill this was, great vibes, great video, you’re great Greg, thank you.
I started journaling 1 month ago and I log every single day. I've been really enjoying it.
Jokes on you wheezy, that's 11am my time so I'm sleeping in!
You make me feel bad about myself. Not only are you trying a new challenge, but you’re making a video about it and keeping yourself accountable.
you're so inspiring. and I have a bunch of sleep issues too so I'm tempted to try this (again because I've done it before) but it's so freaking hard to get up early when I don't have to. I wish I could jump to the part where it's already feeling good to do so. And I hope it works with other workouts than running because I truly hate running
Ditto, which is why I walk 🚶♀️
Love your videos, I was wondering if you could do one about red light therapy. It supposedly helps with sleep.
Any tips on an evening routine? Day one of this morning thing…tough but very mindful of it!
Craig my friend let me tell you, your work out routine and your diet is really paying off, I can see you're getting real gainz. Keep the hard work!!
I definitely feel better using my morning to get extra free time than my evening.
also, who am I waiting on to poop? me!
Love the cinematic quality of some of these shots with early morning light and fog (0:15), great work Wheezy!
I've been toying and occasionally trying to wake up at 5 am daily for a few years now, I'm really curious how it impacted you and if you’re going to keep the habit. Waiting for the clock to turn 1 pm here in Romania. Can't wait! ☺️
Has the clock turned 1pm yet?
succes.

@@9Nikko8 Sorry to hear that.keep waiting I guess 🤷♀
Nice Olan Rogers shirt, Craig. I was eyeing the red bear design myself but I snoozed on it and it sold-out. So I am red with envy *winks in Wheezy*
Regardless of that, I loved this video.
