Stick Sensitivity options is a must if you have drift developing from using the game pad for a long time, it extends the use of your controller without replacing it sooner. When drift occurs you can tune the dead zones to be wider to omit it from being possible to trigger for instance. Any Gamepad you buy, you don't know if the joystick module is already degrading from time itself, the graphite pad in the module can be corroded by the oil in the spring when you push the L3 / R3 buttons, and eventually over time of use will leak into the sensors, and mess with the resistance of the pad hence drifting.
The 8-bit-do pro style controllers are the most durable I can find, I haven't broken one yet, but I've been through two Xbox controllers, also a massive fan of the horizontal sticks ;)
First your weird for liking the sticks lol I can say that I am weird to lol. Also I've seen alot of people tell me this style controller is great for retro and fighting games. So I am learning alot from these comments. Thanks.
Pugh, can you give me your opinion? I'm playing TEKKEN 8, and I find the joystick on the regular controller to be too long, making for inaccurate input. I'm considering this controller, because the joystick seems shorter.
I use this to game on my PC. I really like it and is probably the most comfortable controller I have. Super responsive and great for twitch style games like beat them ups and metrovanias. For example, a common command in most of these games is double tap a direction to dash. Much easier to do on 8bitdo's crisp thumb sticks than on the mushy Dualshock or Xbox controller. I personally like that its wired because I keep on forgetting to charge my controllers all the time. Heh.
You compared it to a PlayStation controller. And while it has similar thumbstick layout, it has far more in common with a SNES controller. Shoulder buttons, dpad, face buttons are all SNES style. The controller draws attention to the DPAD, which is far superior to both the Xbox and PlayStation controller d-pads for retro games. Try playing Cyber Shadow, Celeste, Dead Cells with this controllers DPAD, its perfect for that. Those interested in retro indie games are going to love this controller. Games that have digital input like those games benefit a ton from the precision of a Dpad, and this mushy-yet-tactile dpad is tried and true
To be fair I have heard this about these style games unfortunately I don't really play those yet. But I appreciate you letting me know this I can use this as research in other videos with dpads like this. Thanks
@@PughsReview ok. Tbh i have an xbox one s controller and the bumpers are annoyingly clicky noisy. Its bumper tactile switches get broken easily. Ugh. I already repaired it twice and now it is broken again. Just imagine the hassle of desoldering/soldering the very small pieces of shite. I never had an issue like this with my ds4 because they are very durable. Btw thanks for the reply.
Purchased only for the shape (used to ps controller) and most games on steam supports ds4/5 but the button prompts sometimes is buggy and have to play with xbox prompts for the whole gameplay.
This controller is great. For 4 button fighting games (like MK, Tekken, & Soul Calibur) and games that do better with dpads over thumbsticks, like fixed camera games, 2D platformers, etc. Xbox dpads are not made for actual directional control, they are made for quick selects. Because of this, and its position on the controller, the Xbox dpad kills my thumb every time I spend more than a few minutes using it for anything else. So while official Xbox controllers are generally great, there are some situations where they are near useless. That's where this controller comes in handy.
Thanks for the comment yea I did this review a while back a lot has changed since then lol. I agree 8bitdo has the best dpad on the market hands down. Especially when it comes to fighting games.

This is actually more valued in countries like Canada, where other Pro controllers in general reaches as high as $80, while this is like $45 and the Wireless is like $55~65 In USD the price disparity is much shorter, but in CAD it's much wider.
@@PughsReview Actually it's $59.99 for Wired and $69.99 for Wireless. But yeah a $10 difference instead of a $5 difference. I'm skeptical of picking those Chinese cheaper controllers knowing that some of the Joystick modules might come already degraded as a result of sitting on the shelf too long and whatever grease they used in those rotating sensors to keep them fluid and smooth corrodes the plastic housing and seeps into the graphite pad that determines the resistance of the electrical signals for your stick. There's word that there is a joystick module made in America that does not degrade and works using electromagnetism parts instead of rotating metal rubber parts, but no idea if it's in use in the market right now.

After only an hour I already have the start of a bump on the side of my knuckles on my middle fingers. Without the ridges, I would have this contoller a 4/5 because of the rough dpad. But those ridges make it a solid 0/5. Damaging your fingers make it a fail.
