2.6 Million Gallons: Building The Largest Mega-Aquarium In Europe | Nausicaá
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 сен 2024
- Sharks, caimans, tropical fish, sea lions… With its 35,000 seas creatures, Nausicaá attracts 600,000 visitors each year. But today, the aquarium is writing a new page in its history by becoming Europe’s biggest aquarium.
To meet this challenge, the engineers had to build a giant tank, as large as four Olympic swimming pools, and to develop a unique water filtration system, a world first. Each stage of the construction was a technical feat, including welcoming more than 22,000 additional animals, and hammerhead sharks.
From the structure’s architecture to the logistics of breeding thousands of species and bringing in hundreds more from all over the world, this film takes us on an immersive journey into this exceptional project.

I wish more info was given on the filtration system and water changes etc, rather than so much 'race against time' spiel to try and drum up jeopardy and tension. I really don't think viewers give a damn how much time the team have to do something. They just want to see how it is done.
Directors don't have a clue what us clued up folks want to see their all about phony tragedies or racing against some fictitious sea monster , get out of here bloody muppets it's not Top Trumps they must be employing 10 year Olds.
agreed, that was the most intriguing part of the whole thing and they basically did a skim over of how it worked 😟
This. A million times this. I've seen this documentary fifty times about different engineering projects, with only a few of the details switched out. "Oh, you have to make it in 3D with a digital model? Oh my god!"
I'd think it would be more than just a few sand filters, surely they'd have protein skimmers and UV filters and all the rest.
Agreed
All the water in the aquarium is fully filtered in less than 4 hours?!?! That's probably the most impressive part. It takes me about the same time to do water changes in my tanks 😅
Iui
@Didi Didi 2 55s and 2 30s. Yes fairly small
I know right!!!
That's actually kind of slow 4 hours.
You want multiple turnovers an hour. My 400g system returns over 4000g an hour so the water is "completely filtered" 10 times per hour
@@xLUGUBRIOUSx I'm using a pond pump and buckets my good sir. I don't have that kind of set up lol
Absolutely fascinating. Incredible what you can achieve when you put smart, capable people together.
are you implying that im not capable? because you're right.
Power is in unity everyone has their special skill when u bring them all together anything is possible
And crap loads of money
Lets do the same and figure out climate change now
@@coneshapedbowl8150 Its caused by the sun and earth orbit variations. Don't be fooled by any narrative or agenda.
As someone who studies architecture and is a die-hard fish-keeping hobbyist, this documentary is gold!
What an amazing feat... when you realize the aquarium can be self supporting for 7 weeks in case of oil spills or other natural and unnatural disasters. They left nothing to chance...
Several* weeks. Probably not 7. Thats a long ass time.

I am so impressed. I've now placed this aquarium in France on my bucket list 🇦🇺
check out the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, its like this but 3 times the size, and instead of hold regional records it hold several world records, its cool from a marine standpoint and an engineering standpoint, coolest aquarium in the world
"The equivalent of for Olympic size swimming pool"
Me who doesn't have a slightest idea what's the size of those pools are:
**Nods vigorously*
I was able to do a behind the scenes tour at the Georgia Aquarium. It was truly impressive seeing the 6 million gallon tank in person from the top, its like an indoor lake.
I'm about to go diving in it, I'm so excited!
As a kid my neighbor had a aquarium the size of a backyard pool.. it was full of salamanders and frogs...
@@svenben9868 that sounds amazing wow
I love the Georgia Aquarium a well.
What an impressive aquarium, thanks for sharing this video!
guys im not sure but i think this is the largest tank in europe
Hahaha I kept saying that 🤣 biggest bay window in Europe too
Outstanding engineering and team work !!!!
A big salute to all the minds working behind this massive project. Simply incredible.
not to flex or anything but the Georgia Aquarium near my house is 3 times the size of the largest tank in this aquarium with 185 tons worth of acrylic viewing windows and 70 miles of piping needed in the building to keep it running, if you ever go to america or if you live nearby its a must see, its cool from an engineering standpoint and a marine biology standpoint
You forgot to mention the Whale Shark!
@@saukyasmith7978 which number is this one? Have they stopped killing them yet?
Poema del Mar in Gran Canaria (Europe) is much bigger and nicer.
Absolutely amazing what good will, intellect and skill can do!!!!
I take my hat off to all the wonderful people involved with this AMAZING PROJECT!!!!! I WILL DEFINITELY BE VISITING THIS AMAZING AQUARIUM!!!
With all that "good will, intellect, and skill"....You'd think instead of filling a new fish tank with millions of gallons of water; they'd be using that "good will, intellect, and skill" and millions of dollars to help build a fresh water pipeline to middle Africa for kids who drink out of a mudbank puddle cause that is what they have. Maybe one day Europe will help. After they have the biggest fish tank in Europe of course.
This has nothing to do with god , those fishes were quite content in their natural habitats, and all those resources came from former colonies and still coming from them why not spend back on Africa and Haiti that France been raping for centuries

@@dickfitswell3437 that should be chinas responsibility leading manufacturer of the world
@@jazzymars30 with all do respect their “natural habitats” are disappearing at an alarmingly rapid pace due to pollution, global warming, noise pollution etc. So aquariums such as this will be where these beautiful marine life can live the way they unfortunately can not in nature anymore. It’s pretty sad what the world has done to our planet in means of destruction.
Hats off to everyone involved in this construction and maint of such a massive aquarium! Very impressive and vital to the preservation and education of one of our planets largest resources!
Sweet mamma what a project. That thing must cost a fortune to operate.
Thank you for building it so close to Britain. It is literally a day trip. On a sad note, the last time I saw a Hammerhead up close, it was being shot with a pistol by the skipper of a pleasure fishing boat in Florida.

I went to this aquarium last week and it is so worth it!
Absolutely stunning! The power of these machines is amazing!
I visited this aquarium quite a few years ago now on a school trip to France. Many of the saltwater species are all in water straight from the sea I believe? It’s one of the best aquariums I’ve ever visited and looks like it’s gotten even better since
What's the best time of the year to go?
This goes into my must visit list!
I hope you are not related to Francis Ford C. Go visit your aquarium and keep commending the French idiocy. Mankind will never understand what's important and will always prefer money over nature.
I have been to Nausicaä, it was mesmerising! If you're landing in Calais or in the general area I strongly suggest visiting. At only 30 minutes away from Calais by car the detour and visit is very worth it!
Awesome 😎 documentary I love it 😍 something new to learn about
Uplifting. The smiles of the aquarists indicated their sense of achievement. It should bring smiles to many children's faces. Magnifique!
Great video documentary !! Thank you ;-)
Great documentary! I only wish that the actual audio of language was allowed to be heard. Fascinating nonetheless
If you go to the dw France or Germany it probably is. I prefer dubbed for docs so i can be in the kitchen or doing something as i watch/listen
I love how they said they took sharks from a lagoon and then pointed out they are critically endangered
Truly impressive!!! ,,,,,,Damn good job. It's enlightening to see that thoughtful, intelligent, skilled people do exist.
wow, a trophy show of captured animals and tons of water. So Useful.
What an amazing video, so informative. I had no idea all the technical work that goes into constructing an aquarium like this!
Kudos to the truck driver!
Its important to model some of these animals from going extinct. It's unfortunate that it had to come to this, rather because some species are in danger of extinction either naturally or because the seas have been so highly over fished due to human encroachment. II can only hope that people become more aware of the plight of these animals, instead of turning a blind eye. We must do everything in our power to save these precious creatures. I salute all those involved in this project to take care of sea life. The hammerhead is already becoming a rarity. Save them all, each species deserves to live on.
You might be right, but it’s a shame we can’t stop polluting the sea so we don’t have to build these to save animals
@@bryanwalker5051 totally agree, that’s what I came here to say
Absolutely breathtaking and amazing. Kudos to all that were involved!

Extremely impressive , well done to all involved from conception to wow mummy look at the shark , you all have done something incredible and necessary.
Their big viewing window is like a cinema screen, holy crap, France!
I think you should emphasize the size of the tank 100 times more. Once per minute is not enough.

stunning engineering and design!A masterpiece.
The fact that an entire company spend 1 year working 7 days a week to produce just the acrylic panel is impressive and EXPENSIVE 😂

Massive engineering feat!
That was fun to watch!
You're very cool! Yes, it was fun!
this is truly incredible
I like the idea that makes the whole aquarium seem like the visitor is the exhibit, it eases my mind knowing that the animals there at least have a feeling that they're at home.
Man.. Stuff like this is what magic is as a child, as an adult it is alot of hardwork and education..still magic to most of us lol
The baby Hammerheads are beautiful
Magnificent! Who cries over an aquarium? Me. But this isn't just an aquarium. This one transports it's audience. It's magical. It's a beauty.
"Every day the tank fills up with twelve inches of water."
"After two weeks it's only just reached six feet. The filling up will take six entire weeks."

All of this is amazing, there was me thinking I was the daddy having a 400 + ltr tank! I’m in Minneapolis and our aquarium is a fun walk through one but I really liked the Boston Aquarium with its center tall column with a spiral walkway.
Aquariums with such high claims earns great expectations!. Fingers crossed
Why not just leave them on the ocean instead of making them aware that you have them in an aqaurium
Silly, they want their fishtank clout. Didn't you hear...biggest fishtank...biggest fishtank window. Jeez
Lovely. I hope the planners. & builders made it ready for sea level rise.
Bravo et chapeau a vous 🙏
I'm back for the 15th time to marvel at magnificence. We need more of these feats of science and engineering over war & division.
We have a larger one under us... ;) the Frying Pan Tower! Ok, just kidding! It's really the ocean but we have a live feed camera down there with all the sharks and myriad of sea creatures!
Atlanta aquarium is just like this I remember when it first opened they had almost every salt water animal you could think of plus fresh water including fish from the Amazon.
the french: omg look at this master piece that was impossible to do!!! ATL: Hold my beer.....
haha
Awesome that the French are doing this. Much success.
What a tremendous achievement!
….minus all hammerhead sharks that have died in their care….
@@remi_gio Really? Thats bad. But that happens, I have an aquarium and doing everything right time to time something happens, it's nature, you don't have total control.
@@Clodd1 Exactly my point… that’s why I donate to conservation of the ocean instead going to for-profit aquarium. Or I see the sea-life whenever I can. I remember swimming with sea turtles in Mauritius a couple of years ago and it was worth more than any aquarium could ever provide and made me care more about the ocean ;)
Forget the hammerhead...just be frankly, we need a great white shark!
Amazing video.
Absolutely Amazing!!!
This is a great video and sounds impressive... However, less impressive when you find out that all of the hammerheads have since died!
Yep. These larger marine animals aren’t meant to live in tanks. People think it’s fine because the tanks look large to us but these animals swim thousands of kilometers per year. No tank will ever be big enough to keep them truly healthy mentally and physically.
Epic
My nose is stopped up and I can’t stop thinking of all the time my nose wasn’t stopped up and how ungrateful i was.
