This single line shaped the future and everything Spider-Man stands for
Ok fff
This scene shows Uncle Ben was the first man to discover Peter Parker's spider power. I think he actually warns Peter to keep this and use it wisely for some good things. I can't imagine if he didn't hear this line from Uncle Ben, much likely he'll use the power for revenge...

“With great power comes great responsibility”
Arguably the most pivotal and important words of Peter’s whole life. This is the last conversation he would have with Uncle Ben before his death and he knows now he was just trying to help him. Peter has deep regret and sadness but as long as he carries these words and Uncle Ben with him he’ll always be there to do what’s right no matter how hard his life gets what’s why he’s Spider-Man.
You could’ve wrote the description for the movie on the back of the box

That Ben's look in 1:32 is so heartbreaking. Also the way Peter smashes with the car door is so ...devastating, like it's saying "Go f*ck yourself!"
But then the sad flute plays Peter's responsibility theme and that shot of uncle Ben lonely driving away with the last three notes is what always makes me so sad 😢❤️

This is _the_ Uncle Ben, and honestly, same with Aunt May, even if Marisa Tomei fits the MCU better. The Raimi versions are always the ones I think of when I hear Uncle Ben and Aunt May
I think Andrew's uncle Ben and aunt May are also good and Uncle Ben's death was sad here too.
This is a scene that will never be forgotten no matter how old it gets and it’s the definition of what it means to be Spider-Man

Obviously "With great power, comes great responsibility" is an amazing quote, but I think people need to acknowledge what he says before that more: "These are the years when a man changes into the man he's gonna become the rest of his life; just be careful who you change into." It's much more of a mouthful, and I'll admit could be phrased more eloquently, but it's also a very powerful quote, and I think people need to remember it more, or at least paraphrase it more.

Cliff Robertson is by far the BEST Uncle Ben ever on screen.
One of the most iconic quotes in movie history.
This man was only in one movie for no more than 30 minutes more than 20 years ago, and yet he's the only person I ever imagine when I think of "Uncle Ben."
I can't believe Cliff Robertson was such a nice man with great patience.

I had a father his name was Charlie Lloyd Davis jr
0:09 if you listen closely, you can hear "What We're All About" by Sum 41 playing on the radio.
Those words have lived with me my whole life
This scene is so hard to rewatch. "Then stop pretending to be!"
My heart breaks for this naive kid. "These are the years when a man changes into the man he's gonna be the rest of his life"....little did Peter know he was gonna begin to make that transition the same day.
Another thing that sticks out is when Peter hurries out of the house that same morning, when he discovers his powers for the first time, Uncle Ben says "Teenagers. Raging hormones, they never change."
Even when Uncle Ben had no clue in the world that Peter had freaking *superpowers*, he was still 100% spot on in assessing Peter's behavior. It wasn't Peter's powers that made him lash out at Uncle Ben, it was the kind of naivety that comes with adolescence, when your hormones are out of control, etc
So much to analyze in this scene. It's so much more than one powerful sentence. It's over two minutes of powerful stuff.
You said a long comment that everyone should agree.
Yeah, we generally relate the quote to Peter's powers, but his advise was really aimed at common regular people growing up. I do dislike that Peter stood up for once, beat Flash, but he's somehow the villain of the story in everyone's eyes.
"These are the years when a man changes into the man he's gonna be the rest of his life" This line is complete bs honestly. A person can always change, being out of your teenage years doesn't prevent you from doing that.
@@legrandliseurtri7495 that's definitely TRUE but it becomes harder with age and opportunities starts to shrink as well.

I know we all love the "With great power..." line, but more recently, I've come to love the "These are the years..." line. Peter is going to realize what Ben did at his age. The choices he makes matter and are going to shape his future
Such a pivotal moment.
RIP Cliff Robertson
This is one single line that helped shaped Peter as Spidey.
The fact the Uncle Ben in this scenario doesn't know that Peter has super powers nor that he will become a super hero. He talks to him man to man. He says the line "With Great Powers Comes Great Repsonsibility" to him as a regular everyday man and in the meaning about what it is to be a good person and human being to those around you.
Which to me just shows how truly great uncle Ben is, he just wants his son to be a good person and both Peter and Spider-Man takes the words to heart after his death.
*With great power, comes great responsibility.*
Best line ever.
R.I.P Cliff Robertson, 1923-2011.
One's ability does not condemn you to a life of servitude to the incapable. One's ineptitude does not grant them dominance over the apt. But what makes a hero is that, no matter how difficult the task may be, the burden of action is infinitely easier to endure than the regret of inaction or the eyes of the victims that did not need to be victims. Heroism comes not from a reward, nor a threat, but from a good human exercising their ability to make the world just that little bit brighter.

The casting of Cliff Robertson as Uncle Ben was genius
The ultimate father figure
This scene and line is very powerful, neither of these two men understand how this advice changes both of their lives. Right after this Peter had the obligation to stall the thief but out of spite of not getting his winning share at the ring let’s the thrift go. It resulted that Ben loses his life as the innocent bystander trying to give another piece of advice to the thief’s accomplice, who ironically was more interested in what Ben had to say.
It was this interaction that will forever remain in Peter’s memories, an uncle who was like the father he ended up shirking off without life experience to foresee what a blessing Ben really was. This last moment had to have haunted Peter, he didn’t follow through with Ben’s life that Ben ended up paying for and his last message to his uncle he didn’t want him as a father to see the hurt in Ben’s eyes at being rejected from showing his love and concern for someone who he did see as a son he never could have.
I watched this movie as a young kid and I still remember this line, every human should know this message.
I understand your words now way more than I did Uncle Ben. Peter Parker was lucky to have someone in his life like that. I wish my father was just like Uncle Ben sometimes. I don’t look at him less than he is. I just wish he spoke words into my ear, he rarely does.

What I love about Spider-man is this line and how relatable it is. This line alone not only shape the future of Spider-man but is also a motto that shape a lot of good men out there as well
“No, no you’re not supposed to run away….”
I feel that part always gets missed or overlooked. I fully understand what Uncle Ben is trying to tell Peter here, that sometimes running away from a problem or a fight isn’t always the answer even if the odds are against you. It’s far easier to run away from it but it’s far braver and wiser to stand against it and face it head on even if you feel like it’s the opposite. He has no intention of Peter to be a coward. Obviously if the fight is too big to handle then yes running might be the only option but having courage shows character and integrity. To be a real superhero without any powers or fancy suit

I love this scene. Genuinely good movies like those don’t portray the protagonist as a saint like most of what the entertainment industry does these days. They have character flaws because they’re just people, often young and still figuring things out (older generations are too, but I digress). Peter berates his uncle here out of arrogance, mostly. He acts closed-minded and anything but humble, even though Ben knows what he’s saying is true, likely speaking from experience.
This is the kind of thing that happens in the real world too (minus the superpowers). Adversity and hardship has a clever way of instilling character in us, and I think this exchange followed by Ben’s fate really transforms Peter from the inside out, and that character makes him therefore fit for the enormous responsibility of being Spider-Man.
He reminds me of myself, too. I’ve gone through enough hardships for three lifetimes, I feel like. But it (or if you want to get preachy, God) refined me in ways that no other set of circumstances could have done. And I tell you, it’s made me appreciate _everything_ so much more. My relationships, my family (especially my family in Japan), even everyday things like food and shelter.
Such a powerful scene, as hard as it is to watch. And I think Ben handled it well. You can see how hurt he is, but he doesn’t berate Peter, he just takes it, trusting that in time, Peter will mature into a humble man.

My father was not very nice like uncle Ben. We didn't have father/son bonding times due to him being away at work but we used to have some conversations like this from time to time and I used to lash out at him like Peter did. I lost him in 2020 due to heart failure and this was the first year started having father/son bonding moments due to lockdown. He died 24 days before my 20th birthday, so he has never seen me as an adult.
I still regret not telling him about everything I have been passing through because I though he would make fun of me/not care. Despite the non intact relationship, I still have this feeling of guilt that I couldn't save him in his last moments because he had signs of being tired and I kind of ignored it but had this fear of him dying, but I was in denial
