Thank you David. Finally had a chance to build and fly this thing today. By far the best scratch build I have flown so far. Suggested throws are alittle tame on the roll. I was worried but the vertical stab and rudder being so tiny but tracks so well at slow speeds and has great rudder athority ee.

So, I've watched this AWESOME video like 4300 times (Well, not THAT many), and you guys are always talking about suggestions. Might I suggest an FT Bf109 to go along with the Spitfire? If the suggestion has already been done, my apologies, otherwise, I think this would the most logical progression from this great build! Thanks for great vids! Keep them coming!

Just built one of these, and I must say, I am amazed at how well this plane flies! All the looks of a warbird, yet handles like a trainer! Stall tendencies are almost non-existent! My hats off the Dave and Flite Test for sharing this sweet Spit! It's a keeper! Next up: mini Corsair!

Flitetest probably makes the best foamboard planes in the world but to make them better, it would have been nice if you put formers on the bottom of the plane to make them more round. It looks nice. Just Saying to make the 5 star rating into a 6 star looking plane. DOn't worry i am building this plane

  • @chubmcy17

I think they use 4mm foam becauSe i got a few sheets at dollar tree and it was like 4.8mm, and when i did those folds on the middle peice the gaps were too small and it wont bend up 90 degrees. Also the cutouts where one piece of foam slides in is too small.

Cool Plane! Love you guys ! I encourage you to buy all the stuff from flite Test on this PDF /kit/powerpack etc. Then If you want to build it as Light as Possible... then actually build it in depron instead of Heavy school foam board. Mid/ sept.2020 The RcDepron.com site can sell you the Depron. Why? it cuts/ glues/flies etc. everything is better with depron. Thumbs Up for standing for our Faith/ country!

I am having lots of issues. Plane needed lots of weight to balance properly. Motor shaft replacements can't be found. Recommended Suppo 2217/7 motor is underpowered and can barley take off. Hand launching is disastrous. Suppo 2217/7 motors have aluminum shafts that bend easy. I got two motors and now both shafts are bent.

I have a 6 channel helicopter that I crushed end destroyed a servo, apart with some other things. So I have 3 working servos. 2 from the cyclic pitch end 1 from the rudder of the helicopter. Will it be possible to pull all the electronic gear from the helicopter end attached to this spitfire? The fact that I only have 3 servos raises questions in my head! If I have a mix in my aileron servos end a rudder will I be possible to control the aircraft? Or I need another configuration?

So I understand the single layer of foam board with the pins for the motor pod, what if two layers, the actual aero frame and maybe a subsequent back up 2 inch piece of foam board was glued to the inside aero frame from the bottom? In doing so do you think the dowels would be more rigid, “a little more bite”? I understand the exterior layers of the foam board are tough, if one were to sandwich skin, foam, dowel, foam, skin would be stronger?

Turnigy radios perform just as well as the Spektrum if not better for park flyer applications.

I am wondering how thick your material actually is. I can make a sandwich construction from the materials I can get here. It's gonna be a little bit heavier but a bigger motor and prop should do. With the materials I have I can come to roundabout 135 grams/m³ at 39 mm thickness. Because I have to laminate cardboard to both sides of the foam to get a material like the one you use there is a 1% to 2% difference in weight each plate I make.

My dad flew the fokker 50 for a swedish airline called skyways that went bancruppt. i havent seen any rc models of it so a swappable one would be really uniqe. It's a really cool plane as it uses two turboprop pratt&whitney. I know some pepole whil dissagre but i think i looks relly nice sitting on the ground whit it's high landing gear.

How about a "Delta" or "Blended Lifting Body". The foam board that you use would be an interesting plane. With all controls internal.
I started with the "Mr. Bones" 24 x 18. Blew that up to 48 x 36, powered by a OS Dbl BB 25, 9x6 prop. 1/4 in. square stock main building material. Full 4 channel. ail.& elv. mixed. nose gear, and throttle. Fixed 3 landing gear. 5 lbs w/ fuel.
The plane is very smooth aerodynamically, very clean. High speed will make your eyes water, and will put most .40 sized planes to shame .At medium speeds, 50% power, it will do standing and lazy "8's" with ease almost within its own length.
    I have a .56 engine, so I have been thinking that a 96 x 48 would be huge.

no its not, pick a higgh wing trainer everyone wants to fly a spitfire first, and then they crash the spitfire. FT have a couple of suitable trainers for beginners, but alas they dont look like a spitfire, cause a spitfire was a fighter, not a trainer.
    Good luck.
