      What's with the tape on Dobie's ears? Doesn't that hurt the ears when they are docked? What's involved in the healing process? What is recovery time? They do look "tougher" but is it necessary to put the little guy in pain?
      Exceptional videos!!!
      If I wasn't busy in the summer time and you bred Dobies I would definitely buy one from you.

    • @DobermanPlanet
      @DobermanPlanet  4 года назад +3

      Well this guy already has his done before I ever picked him out. The breeder does all his dogs before he sells them. It's the breed standard for Dobermans in the U.S. so it's incredibly common. In fact, it's the norm. I did a video on this actually if you're interested ruclips.net/video/GoqrDMQjGpw/видео.html
      If done correctly be a reputable vet there shouldn't be any pain. I met this guy like an hour and a half after he got his ears done and he was running and jumping and playing with his litter mates.

    Great stuff but it’s cruel to crop the ears 👂 tail medically make sense as it’s fragile but the ears are straight cruel and unnecessary

    • @DobermanPlanet
      @DobermanPlanet  4 года назад +13

      I totally get that position and you certainly aren't alone in that viewpoint. So it's clear, I didn't get his ears cropped or do his tail. The breeder's vet did both to the entire litter before he even found buyers for the pups (before I met or picked out Arlo). So I never had a choice with Arlo. I know this is different in other countries but in the U.S. this is normal practice for breeders. Most breeders want their dogs to conform to the AKC breed standard for the Doberman which says they should have cropped ears. This is definitely a big difference from other countries.

    • @MonexaX
      @MonexaX 4 года назад +2

      cropping ears does have medical benefits!! please don’t spread false news
      dogs with standing ears may suffer from fewer ear infections than dogs with hanging ears. It’s been that standing ears are less prone to damage and subsequent medical complications, especially in working dogs.

It has a reusable heating pad and a little battery-operated heartbeat inside a plush dog. My dobie pup took immediately to it in his crate with the set-up John recommends here at night and didn't make a SINGLE whine for his first night and slept the whole night! HUGELY reccommend!

    • @cloroxbleach8087
      @cloroxbleach8087 4 года назад

      David Fuller That is completely false. The cropping and docking of the Doberman is done so that it is safe while doing its job. The Doberman was created for the purpose of being a guard dog. Well, the problem with its natural floppy ears and tails is that it can be used by an attacker against the dog to cause harm to the dog. To prevent this, the ears are cropped and the tail is docked to keep the dog safe. Now, for those that just have the dog as a house pet, I agree it is pointless. If you’re using the dog for what it was designed for though, you should crop and dock.

    • @cloroxbleach8087

    We had a week to prepare when we decided to buy the Cane Corso, so my girlfriend couldnt plan her work to fit better with puppy schedule. I had a month break from school and I mainly took care of the puppy for the first 3 weeks, I was exhausted went sleep at 9pm, took her out usually 2 times a night before waking up at 6. Potty training was my main thing, crates arent allowed here in Finland (only for travel, doctor) so didnt want the dog to take a piss on the floor. Probably took the dog outside for a wee 20 times a day, used the word "pee" in Finnish every time she did with high praises, not once we praised/gave a treat when it happened inside. I am so glad we went through the hassle, didnt took long before she learned to ask outside and did everything to hold until we were out(we live in 3rd floor). Shes 5 months old and accidents havent happened for a long time, if we visit my parents we can just open the door and say go for a pee, she goes outside and comes back immediately. Amazing dog she is and I would highly recommend everyone to go through the pain for the first weeks like I did, well worth it.

    Wow your the first person to get the feeding part right. Your the first person to do almost what I have always done at feeding time. Where we do things differently is that I do not use my hand to block or stop my puppy from eating his food in his food dish. I use my hand to feed the puppy. I put my hand into the food dish and I keep it there. I then allow or give the command for the puppy to go ahead and start eating. But you see my hand is in his food bow and my hand is full of food. The puppy eats only from my hand until all the food is gone. Your right in that putting your hand into the puppy's food bow takes away his food protection response. The puppy will come to see your hand as the giver of food the giver of good things and not something to bite. What you will have trouble with later is teaching your dog to eat his food without eating from your hand. Ha ha ha. Everyone in my family feeds the puppy like this not just me. It conditions your dog that everyone in your family is family and not something to bite. I use to live in Fairfield California. I now live in Thailand. I will be getting my new Doberman puppy in about 3 weeks. Have a great day.

      @cloroxbleach8087 4 года назад

      Jo e Cropping and docking isn’t just to look “cool” though I do agree a lot of people do it just for that reason. The true purpose of cropping and docking is to protect the dog while it’s working. The Doberman was created for the sole purpose of personal protection. Thus, the ears are cropped and tail is docked to prevent an attacker from using the natural floppy ears and tail against the dog and keep the dog from getting hurt. I do agree though that if you just have this dog as a house pet, you shouldn’t crop and dock. There’s no purpose.

    Is there any reason you do that with their ears, I’ve done my research on it and found it pointless and painful, but I wanna hear from someone who actually does it
    Edit: hey sorry everyone but I want to point out. I find it pointless if it is just a house dog, no guarding, if there is no purpose for a dog, then don’t change them, if they are truly a guard dog and it’s for their safety do it in a humane way please :))

      The breeder cropped his entire litter before he ever found buyers for the dogs. So Arlo already had his ears cropped before we even knew he existed and was available. That's pretty common practice in the U.S. since the breed standard here for Dobermans says their ears should be cropped. My wife and I weren't sure about if we wanted to leave the ears natural or not, but in the end we didn't have a choice with Arlo anyway.

      Yup it was already done.. you're right. I wasn't about to let him go when I felt he was the perfect dog for us because of his ears. Especially when it's the norm in the U.S. and most breeders do it. A lot of people would argue the opposite... that would be shameful to have a Doberman outside the breed standard that Louis Dobermann intended, which was a dog with cropped ears. Very passionate arguements on both sides. I totally get it. I have a video on ear cropping specifically which would definitely be a more appropriate place to argue these points (ruclips.net/video/GoqrDMQjGpw/видео.html).
