If your dog gets separation anxiety, here's a quick tip (as with all things, it takes time and can take a lot of time). Don't always go through the exact same routine when you are about to leave the house, for example, put your coat on first, and then return to the couch. Then get out, but return within 10s and ignore the dog. Keep repeating that and changing the routine and slowly build up the time you are gone (1 min, 3 min, 5 min and so on, just what makes you comfortable). The dog just learns to understand that being alone isn't forever. Eventually he doesn't mind you getting out and probably won't even come off his place to check on you when you're leaving. It can take a lot of time, but in the end it's all worth it!
That is exactly what I do! I don’t get him worked up leaving and even coming home ! Works brilliant and no anxiety issues eversince Thank you too for the advice
That's what Victoria Stillwell promotes. I use to watch her show It's Me or the Dog as a kid and now full episodes are officially being uploaded to RUclips over a decade later. I've never had a dog with that kind of separation anxiety, though, so I've never put it to practice.
My dog learned that if my keys makes noise, someone is leaving, then he goes by the closet in my front door where my shoes are and whine, and I have to take him out the back door so he can pee/poop before I leave, but when we go back in, all is good. I don't know, maybe he thinks we already went out, so its ok for me to leave? he goes back to his toys or bed. Who knows what he thinks. lol
Anyone can own any breed and work full time as long as they make sure to pay attention to and take the dog on fun adventures when they’re not working!! If we didn’t work full time we wouldn’t be able to afford the dog in the first place lol
Haha, I think I basically completely agree with you. A little thought ahead of time and it really is possible with any breed. There are some that need more stimulation than others though in my opinion, but yeah totally possible with pretty much any dog. Gotte be able to buy those expensive dog toys!
@@DobermanPlanet even more so when those expensive dog toys dont last 5 minutes. Even the 'tough' toys. My bullmastiff seems to view it as a challenge to annihilate within the first minute
Very informative for those who want such a breed, something to be farsighted about, not just owning, caring for a puppy & as well as a European ,ie.or what you have. Puzzle toys ,I'm thinking that contain treats as a reward motivator. It shouldn't be a dog unattainable for the elite if you play your cards right!
I have been using this ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU as a handy reference book. I read through the book and enjoyed the little glimpses of examples. I love that this author believes in rescue dogs. The tips and training has been invaluable and gave me moments of...."how simple why didn't I think of it" so it's been a great tool. Thank you!
Exactly, I'm on my second dobie. She costs a fortune, but she's worth every bit. Between my work schedule and my daughter's school schedule we make it work for our dog, and she's the happiest dog ever I don't care what anyone says.
I created a hardwood flooring business and brought Hunter with me… I was able to train him 5-6 times a day as the owner / boss. I was 20 and broke as sh*t, but insanely ambitious at the time. I started with waiting tables so I could have him before lunch shift, before dinner shift… after dinner and pre - post break fast. I was all in on my dog at the time. He was ultra fit and ripped and also my service animal emotionally.
We have 2 dobermans our dog walker is a life saver! Even if we are working from home (probably 50%) we have her come in Monday to Friday so the dogs have a predictable schedule:)
One thing I've always been curious about, is how does it work from the point of view of access to peoples houses? Do people leave their dogs in a specified location that you have access to, or do people just drop a key off in the morning before they go to work or whatever?
I always thought "personally" 12 hrs was way to long , we leave our dogs 5 hrs minimum. Do you leave them with toys ? Or have a dog walkers pop in for feeds or walks ? Just asking through interest not judging.
@@DaniLore - I take him out to pee, he lingers outside if he felt he needs to poo, otherwise he pulls his way back into the house . I leave water to make sure he has something to drink.
Omg when i got my first Doberman the people on the forums like Doberman talk were so mean to me because i was so new and didn’t know much... till this day i stay off of those sites and recommend all new owners to as well... they will tear u up.... thanks for your approach and addressing this
I'm so sorry King... its true.. there are certainly some people who are poor ambassadors for the breed. They should be helping new people not dragging them down. I think you'll like a video I have planned in a few weeks. It'll be a message specifically for those people you're talking about 😉 Stay tunned! 👍
@@chevyhighrider That's with most things, truly. You get people together with similar interests and the tribalism kicks in. Near regardless of topic. Tragic.
Absolutely. My husband and I worked full-time for years and raised Dobermans. They adjust but when you get home you're going to get a huge greeting and that's the best of the best!
I’m bringing home a pup on 23rd and just broke up with my stay at home girlfriend that was going to take care of him. My heart needed this video so bad you made my Day thank you so much ❤
I'm active duty military so I work more than 40 hours a week and I have 3 dobermans. I got 2 8 week old littermates (they're 4.5 years old now) and recently got another 4 month old. All 3 are great, don't destroy anything, don't potty on the floor. They're the absolute best dogs in the world.
How ? My new 6 week old dobbie is pissing and crapping on the floor and mat....ive tried opening the bathroom door and asking him to GO POTTY....i keep using the word potty whenever he's relieving himself....so he associates the word to number 2.....and ive tried waiting in the bathroom for 1 hr. Waiting outside the bathroom. He whizzes the moment i get him out of the loo. :(
Adult dogs left alone will sleep most of the day anyway. Mine does even when I'm home. BUT, our run/walk after work is an hour and a half EVERY day, rain, sun, blizzard, whatever.
That's perfect. You get him nice and tired every day - I love it. Yeah, Dobies just love to know what's expected of them and once they figure it out they're good to go and can be fully trusted at home alone almost always.
@@DobermanPlanet This is my fourth Dobie and I have never had a problem leaving them alone for the day once they get it. The one I have now (European) has only pooped in the house twice in nine years. Both times she was sick and had the runs. Can't be mad at that, not her fault.
i am a dog walker in San Francisco and so i was able to take my doberman with me all day every day and yet work full time - he worked with me and the dogs - it was a magical moment in my life man - he passed way to young and i miss him everyday still
“Dogs live 10+ years, you should get a cat” as if those little monsters don’t live 20 years. (I say monster affectionately, I own two and love them very much). Also my cats hate when I’m at work, and are all over me when I get home. I literally hate this whole “cats hate humans and don’t care” socialize your cats, and they’ll be good. They just bond with their owners and that’s it. Anyway, off of cats, i feel like any dog can work around your schedule, just train them accordingly.
True,I have 2 cats and have to leave them for 8 hours plus sometimes! I’m thinking about gettin a dog but I live in an apartment so don’t know whT I should do!
We've had two female dobermans over the course of 22 years. Our first was 9 months old when we acquired her and my wife and I were both working full time. We did experience some destruction, like the 12" diameter hole through the center of our couch and then there was my wife's favorite high heel shoes which we only found one heel only. Unrolling toilet rolls was so much fun! We learned to modify the house slightly and restrict the dog from certain areas when we were not home, leaving a talk radio station on to keep her company. It took about 6 months until her destructive phase ended and she matured into the most amazing family member. Their only problem is their intelligence and the need to learn and discover. After another year my wife was home when we started a family. For our two children that followed, our Doberman was companion, protector and playmate until she passed at age 13. For our second Doberman, which we acquired as a 10 week puppy, there was always a house full of activity and discovery so she skipped that destructive stage. The doberman's intelligence and maturity blossoms at about age four and will amaze you.
Im proud to say i work full time and am the proud parent of a sane doberman. She patrols the backyard all day and cant wait to go for a walk when we get home from work. She's the most loyal and loving dog you could hope to own.
Most people who own high drive Velcro dogs such as Dobies and GSD have to work for a living. The dogs are fine. It’s how you approach leaving them. My GSD was crated when I left home for the first year of her life. My dog is nearly two and is fine at home while I’m away. I just make sure that my house is dog proofed. My Shepherd is a sweetie. I make sure that I take her to the park when I get home.
My dogs use a litter box, made of a plastic concrete mixing tub. It's very tidy. Even, my Great Pyrenees could keep it, all, in the box. It does take more time, initially, compared to running them outside, to the grass. My pup is, almost, 15 weeks. She broke off from play, to run to the box, (on her own), and poop, for the first time, today. I am so proud, of her.
I think the problem is, dobermans are such an awesome and amazing breed that owners start thinking they’re special just for having one and not just anyone is worthy. I must admit, when I was a young Doberman owner I was also a little guilty of this. When I’d tell people I had Dobermans and they weren’t impressed I’d be baffled. People on the forums should be more encouraging. They were a new Doberman owner once and had to go buy or rescue theirs just like anybody else. I hear a lot of people say”certain breeds aren’t for unexperienced owners”. Well how else do you get experience?
I’m finally getting my Doberman guys!!!! Been waiting for 13 years for this day!!I am beyond excited…I couldn’t sleep last night lol…imma make sure I give him the best life any dog can ask for 💯💚
@@denisemanley8968 mannn everyday with my Doberman is the best day I ever had lol…me an my ex broke up two weeks ago ..an she kicked me out..only thing I left with is my Doberman turbo 💯💯💯. He’s all I need 💚💚💚💯💯💯
Just under 2 minutes of this vid, I hit the Like button. Whether they're owners of fish, cats or dogs, many feel so entitled to find flaws & 'correct' others' 'mistakes'... Pity they think so many aren't 'supposed' to own pets at all then.
I agree with all your saying. Dobermans will adapt to your schedule. They are not some mystery dog that will have a breakdown if you go to work. My dog is with me when I'm off and sleeps with my other dogs in an outside pin when it's time to go to bed. All I have to say is bed time and he runs to the pin and waits on me. Invest time and love in a Doberman and they will be a great dog.
I couldn't agree more. Trust me, I'm the first person to put the Doberman on a pedestal... haha... but they aren't an impossible breed of dog to keep and raise. Totally doable with a little care and attention! Thanks so much for watching my video!
My Doberman stays at home for 7 hours on his own snuggling to my cat and when I get home we go and play in the park for 2 hours. My Doberman is a happy well behaved dog. What an absolute nonsense to say not to leave a dog at home by itself ! Get a Dobie , they are great!
The best baby I have ever had. I was with Sheba most of the time. There are way too many grand things I can say about my experience with her. She was a gift beyond words.
Thank you so much for this video!! And all your videos really. I’ve been wanting a Doberman for years now. My husband and I are getting one in May.. he works 5 8’s and I work 2-3 12 hour shifts a week. The dog will be alone for 8 hours 1-3 days a week depending on our work schedules, but I’ve seen so many people say not to own a Dobie if you work full time. This has given me confidence that we will still be able to manage our pup on the days we both work.
i really needed to hear this even as a 16 year old who doesn't even work. I know for sure that i want a dobie when i move out but i've always been put off by the fact that I wouldn't be able to stay home all day to look after it and it discouraged me to get my hopes of owning such an intelligent dog. All anyone wants is for their pet to be as happy as possible. This video has definitely made me more confident that I can in fact own a dog with a full time job. :) also, would getting another dog that gets along well with your dobie help with boredom?
So glad to hear it! It's TOTALLY doable but that first year as a puppy can be ROUGH and you will need help during the day checking on the puppy on your work days. Spend some serious time planning it out and you can find a way of your certain that's what you want. Two dogs can be good to help the dog with entertainment when they're older. But two dogs is twice the work for you! Maybe consider a second when the Dobie is past the puppy stages and is more of a trusted adult dog.
You tube music for dogs and virtual walk has been a life saver. Keeps 🫎 Moose very calm and relaxed. ❤ There's all different ones, some play constantly for 10 hours.
A adult Doberman can easily stay alone a working day, especially when you have two of them, in the morning I power them out one hour. When I come back from work. I go another hour. When you sleep at night, nobody make a break and go outside after four hours with his Dog if not necessary, why should it be different by day? Older Doberman sleep nearly 20 hours a day. Regards from Germany
Dude your energy from 3 years to now is a complete 180. Your energy in your recent videos are infectious. Glad you didn’t go back to this type of energy
Omg!!!.I just wrote a comment an other of your video....I have been waiting all my life to get to retirement so I can get a doorman.....I am 54...long time to wait....and i am watching this video now....you are changing my life. I can't tell you how happy and excited i am right now....wow...
hello I am Italian, I live in Germany and I just bought a Doberman in Russia :0 :)), I wanted to thank you for all the advice you give for this breed, I can perceive your passion and professionalism kilometers away .... thx
I know different dogs may act differently than yours, but this information was great. This was probably the MOST informational video I've ever seen on youtube. Great job. Subbed
I’ve subbed because of this video. Too many people make these dogs out to be too much with a Elitist attitude. It’s annoying. Thanks for giving me and many others hope about owning a dog full time with honesty
Your videos have been extremely good for me. I'm thinking of getting a Doberman for myself. I've been looking at Hand Me Down Dobe's. They have a male, 2 yrs 9 mon. & a female 4 yrs. He has cropped ears, she doesn't. I don't have the time to train a puppy, I'm single and would love to have a Doberman. I think they are beautiful, intelligent dogs. The loyalty is amazing. Thank you for your help.
I am getting a Doberman puppy at the end of February that is about 15 weeks of age i work full time so these tips will really help when she arrives at my home
Been saving for a Doberman and could say this is by far the most useful channel every question or concerns I had about the breed you covered thanks for the info!
I work full- time. Each one of my shifts is 24 hours long but I am SO fortunate to work in the same town I live in, so I am allowed to come home multiple times a day to take care of my Doberwoman. I am also thankful to have a dog walker who is also my neighbor! Even at 8, she is not the type of dog who can be left free to roam the house when I am not home. She has her own room attached to the mud room with a window to look outside and a gate so she can look into the rest of the house. I found her a “den” called Hound House on Amazon which is an elevated, enclosed house with her blankets inside. She is free to play, stretch and move around which makes me feel so much better than crating. Safe toys and water complete her set up and keep her AND the house safe. 😂 Proper dog ownership is expensive (quality raw food and pet health insurance being the most costly for me). Working full-time is the only way I can take care of my Doberman the way I think all dogs should be.
I don't own a Doberman but I do have a little Blue Heeler mix puppy (also intelligent and high energy), and I have been working full time since the day I brought her home! We spent a lot of time working on crate training and getting her comfortable being alone in her crate during the day, and she still loves us unconditionally. It's just important that you spend valuable time with them between work
you are right john. i own a 3 yr old dobie gal who is absolutely fine with me going to work. i spend a decent amount of time with her wen i get back. they just need a loving home.
I just got a Doberman pup! I work full time but I take him to work with me for now. Once he is six months old he can stay home with my other dog who is a vizsla. The vizsla is 1.5 years old and my Doberman is now 12 weeks these two are so fun to watch play together! Best buds!! They can keep each other company. At least that’s my plan.
This video is by far the most important video of yours. So many times I see comments like oh ‘if you’re employed and have a work life then you should not get a dog at all’ and it’s probably some hick online .. -and all over big cities I see so many busy people who do actually work full time have dogs and maintain their lives perfectly well … it is really that … elitist entitled people telling others that they can’t or shouldn’t.. and I wonder what do these busy people do to maintain their dogs lives and their own professional lives
I have a 4 year old fixed female that I have had since 12 weeks old and going on 2 years with an intact 6 year old male that i took in because of a poor living quality he had as a service dog.... I was apprehensive sure. FYI these 2 are cousins from the same breeder and yes I have kids in the house and live in the city. OMG anyone that says this HAS ZERO CLUE! I work fulltime and my dogs sleep with my daughter and they guard the house when we leave (wait) But much more excited when we get back from work and school. They just want love and hugs:) Dobes are the gentlest of all and they LOVE YOU unconditionally always! It can be done. The are by nature protective (never taught) So god forbid you ring the door bell. Just my input. The best of best
Thank you so much my friend! i was in doubt of getting a doberman because i work 8 hrs a day, but im researching the breed for almost a year, i have a pretty big apartmant, and i have visited a lot of friends who own a doberman. And after watching this video, I will get one soon!
So glad Natan! Just make sure you put a little extra effort into breaking up the day when they're young (under 1 year of age usually). After they grow up and can be trusted 8 hours is no problem. My Dobie stayed home 12+ hours many times and was totally fine. That's after he was a well-trusted adult of course.
Mine just sleeps when I’m gone. I’ll leave the tv on with a timer if I run out somewhere for a few hours or go to work. She just lays down and sleeps. A throw blanket with your scent on it helps as well. I usually leave it on the couch for her and she will just curl up with it. Just always make time for them when you’re off and have free time. Most of all, dobermans NEED a roll. If you want them to guard, train them to do so with positive reinforcement. If their roll is to be loving and playful, train them to be that way. They are so intelligent and loyal. They love endlessly. I love mine so much. She’s the sweetest girl.
I own 2 small dogs, 7 and 14 lbs. One is actually a Miniature pincher. People think their related to Dobermans but they're not. But I love Dobermans! I think your awesome, Thanks for the tips and entertainment!
fully agree and you now have a new subscriber. My 1st Dob was almost the first minute I had a place of my own with a yard. I was in my early 20's single (I'm in my late 50's now), and it was the best decision I have ever made. She was absolutely perfect, was then and will always be the most precious and closest to my heart (do not tell my wife, but I think she knows). There just is now way when your in your 20' 30's or even later in life and still be able to afford a roof over your dogs head where you can be home 24/7/365. Fortunately now my wife is able to be home 24/7/365, and has been able to do this for the past 10 years. But certainly you can own a Doberman and have this dog grow to be very stable, calm, and loving
My wife and I both work full time. Our Doberman stays in our room on our king size bed and does wonderful. He is excited to see us when we get home and gets plenty of love, exercise, and attention when we get home to we go to bed.
Im so thankfull for your chanel, my dobie is coming to the world in april and your chanel is educating ne as a future owner so much! Also i have 2 dog friendlly cats to keep him company, while the other half of his family are at work/day care 👍
Thank you for not gatekeeping being a doberman owner! Though I will not be bringing a dobie home anytime soon, I can't help but do all this research in the meantime! I've only ever owned smaller dogs but I am just so drawn to dobermans!
Oh my GOSH your video is spot on! I feel so sorry for those folks who were looking to add a dove but the elitists told them NO, you work FT = you’d be a bad owner. That’s SO wrong, and almost cruel to those people who did want a done family member. I’ve had the pleasure and the good fortune to have three (3) dobes in my lifetime, ALL while me and hubby worked FT, and they were happy and fine. People can always hire a pet sitter (or a responsible neighborhood kid like you did), or fam to let them out, it works when they are young. We always always always practiced taking the done for a couple mile walks daily (weather permitting) because our dobes needed that. If they didn’t get the walk, their energy level was much higher, so the walks are important. Great video!
Thank you. I have had a couple of Dobermans while working full time. NO problem at all. Just have fun with them late in the day or on weekends. And yes, they are sooooooo people dogs. Awesome!!!
Really good information! I’ve been wanting a Doberman for quite some while. I’m a single guy that works two jobs. This gives me some hope that I want have to be retired before owning a Doberman.
I don't have a dog door and my 1 year old is fine for up to 8-9 hours without peeing. I can tell because I get a solid 8 hours of sleep every night and he doesn't leave any mess!
That's great! So glad it's working out for you. Yeah at night it's usually easier for them to hold their bladder. They aren't taking drinks during the night and we all get naturally a little dehydrated overnight. During the day MIGHT be tougher. Or not. Sounds like you know your dog and have things figured out-awesome!
I grew up with Dobermans. My parents both worked full time while we were at school. We always had a doggy door so they could come and go at will. We normally had several of them most of the time so ours had each other to keep them company at times.
I'm in the process of looking for a Doberman I've been a pitbull owner for the last 20+ years & currently have a 2 1/2 year old pit who needs a friend. I like your videos I feel alot more comfortable getting a Doberman after watching.
This is a great formula...I’ve been on the fence about this beautiful creature and this your videos have made a convincing case to get one....thank you!!
My dobie is 7 months and adapted just fine. I was a bit nervous. The first week of going to work he was 8 weeks old. He yelped as I was walking out of the house, getting into my car in the garage. But before I could get out of my neighborhood he stopped crying. I listened on my security camera. I’m fortunate to work near home so I would come home on my lunch break. He will still destroy the house at this age, so he must be in the crate when we’re gone. He is quite demanding and requires much more attention then the typical dog. They are truly velcro dogs. But you can definitely own one and work full time. But if you have two or more jobs then it would probably be best to own a another breed or none at all. Thank you for your video. I really enjoyed everything and the useful information! Great job!
Definitely agree with you! I took a week of PTO when picked my bull terrier pup to try to get him use to his pen area and to help push forward house training. Now every though he’s 5 years old I still come home at lunch to take him outside and play a little. I think your idea of playing with him and tiring him out before work is a key idea! Granted I don’t have a dobe, my dog will sleep allllll day long and not even want to go out at lunch time if he’s super tired. He just wants to sleep on the couch.
And just to add to my success - like he said, lots of toys. But I also found that having not just lots of toys but different types, different materials and textures. My dog has never chewed anything up besides his toys and I think it’s partially because he always had many different types of things to chew on
I've come across this with dogs in general. I've been watching breed documentaries and some have said "They're not apartment dogs. They need exercise... They can't be left home alone all day... " as if living in an apartment means you'll never take the dog outside or that you won't be home at all! Rescues also can be unnecessarily picky. "Needs a fenced-in yard... Can't be left outside... Can't be left alone all day..." 🙄 It's like because I live in apartment, I'm not worthy of a dog, especially a large dog. I'm home 95% of the time even as a student (I have no social life whatsoever) and thus have lots of time to take the dog outside to play and exercise. Dogs have their own personalities and preferences, too.
That's my most hated argument of all. My mom has a larger house, and you know how many rooms her dog really uses in there? Two. Living room and kitchen, that's all the space she occupies. So I'll say my apartment is just fine for mine. A garden makes things easier when you quickly need to let them out in the morning, she can just open her door, I have to get fully dressed and ride down the elevator, but other than that, a garden has no benefits for a dog. As long as they get outside enough they don't need a lot of space inside.
I have the wonderful benefit of working as a machinist in a small shop. Lots of people bring their dogs to work with them (we had German Shepherds, Bull Mastiffs, Labradors, and Dachshund do fine here). Only catch is in puppy hood the dog have accidents on the floor and having to clean up on a regular basis so the shop floor doesn't become the dog's favorite spot. :/
Thank you very much for the tips, great video and very helpful. I am getting a Doberman puppy soon, and I made arrangements to work from home for 2/3 days out of the week. Those are the days I was concerned about leaving my puppy home alone for. The other 4/5 days per week, I'll be home to give him all the attention he needs! Thankfully, I do my work is relatively close so I'll definitely drop by and let him out during my lunch breaks.
A prison trained mine. I was stay at home mom, I can't even go out side even go out the door with her looking at me, she starts crying. When I leave her Just for a Lil while she's mad at me. She never has gotten on the bed or anything. I love her dearly!!!!
So I tried a lot of things here. 1st he was in puppy daycare until he was about 10 months old. At the same time I tried to use a larger pet gate to keep him in the kitchen. Quickly learned he can jump really really high. I then worked on crate training. I have a dog walker who comes to see him mid day (who he also loves). Until he was a year and a half he was still chewing weird things but we quickly discovered toys that he loves. I gradually taught him to stay out of the crate alone with cool puzzle toys. He learned independence and now at three years old he's on his own in the house. Biggest thing is playing with him, walking him and keeping him entertained. A bored dog will develop separation issues etc.
I do have my own thoughts about having a doberman while I also have to go to uni and part time work, since many said it won't be good for the doby to be left alone at home for around 6 to 8 hours everyday (specially when I'll be moving into an apartment). So... this video is a HUGE help for me Thank you so much for making this video!!
I have a doberman . I have a real job. My dog has 🕝 cats to entertain him. I have never had any problems leaving shy home for long periods. Thanks Mr. James
Thank you! 🤗 You have the right attitude and answer for working “ parents”. The dog will learn to live within the circumstances that they’re given. With LOVE, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE. ❤️ You can’t ignore your own life and not have a pet. With special attention when the family is home, it can work out… as it does with other breeds.
I have a 2 1/2 year old female dobie that has never shown separation anxiety. I work full time and when I'm home, we spend time together, go to the dog park and go places together.
I have had five Dobermans' over the past forty years all were puppies when I got them and I never had a major problem, but I did have someone who would check on them for the first year while at work. They are high energy, quick to learn and love to please, so they do require attention. One thing to know is that they are not an outdoor yard dog. I personally feel my dog is not only a companion, but a family member not something to be exiled, or chained in the yard. I'm a bit off the topic, but it's just my $0.02 on Doberman ownership.
I miss having a Doberman. My dobie had really bad separation anxiety. Luckily we were able to change our schedules to be home with her more frequently in the day
Absolutely LOVE your videos. You’re just so realistic it’s so refreshing. We have our European dobe import and your videos are amazing! Thank you and keep creating awesome content 🥰
Working full time was pretty hard when my beautiful dobie was a puppy specially cause i live in an apartment with no yard.....but she all grown up now,she is 2 years old an elegant young lady.all i had to do was to give her a 20minute play with her ball before i got to work and an hour fast walk when i return.she is happy and cute as i dreamed my dobie would be.......
I was gone for about 15 hrs one day and had to leave my female dobie alone in the house. Not one thing was damaged, not one puddle or pile, nothing. She was one of a kind.
Vet bills are expensive. There's also monthly maintenance for heart worm, fleas, etc. Not to mention emergencies like when my dog bit a bee and the bee bit him instead, so his nose area got swolen and I have to get him into the Emergency Room (for dogs of course! LOL)
Thanks for the dobbie vids! I've recently rescued a 6month old boy unaltered, my last dog was a weimaraner, its been very interesting to learn this breed
We bought a pen/cage for our Yorkie to keep her contained at night and housebreak her. I felt horrible putting her in there every night/day when we left for work but now she’s about 11 years old and when you move it to vacuum she gets so nervous lol. She loves that thing and she won’t sleep anywhere else! When she gets scared she always runs to her little crate. It’s her security blanket.
My doberman and I are together 24/7. The longest that we have ever been separated is 6 hours...and I suffered very much the entire time from separation anxiety.
I leave my tv on for my baby, and I found puppy meditation on RUclips. She loves it! Especially at bedtime. She also has toys, a bed and an assortment of bones she can chew, to get her through the day while I’m gone. She seems content ☺️
I want a Doberman so badly ): sadly I live in an apartment and working full time feels unfair for a big dog ): I feel like no matter how much I would be able to take it out it wouldn’t do justice
Yeah, that's a tough combination for sure. The first year of the dog's life in that situation would be toughest. Just gotta know what you are getting into and make what decision you think is best for the dog. Sounds like you have a level head and are thinking it through. Start looking for a place with a yard!
Annie - whatever dog you choose will be so well taken care of because you are concerned. You might consider the Min Pin (miniature pinscher - zero blood relation to the Doberman). They are companion animals. An apartment is big enough. Definitely need walked and potty trained (or trained to go to a place inside if that is what you prefer). I would encourage you to research the breed, speak to owners, speak to rescues, and then maybe talk to reputable breeders. I didn’t know anything about the breed when I adopted mine from a rescue, but I have become involved with a min pin rescue, and I have learned tons about the breed. I love mine (10 years later), and socializing him early and often and continuing that (walking, going to pet stores, Lowe’s) has been greatly beneficial. For both of us. Good luck on your process of deciding what will work for you!
I work full time and live in an apartment my Doberman is ten now and I’ve had no problems. Good walk in the morning before you leave and as soon as you get home.
This is EXCELLENT advice. Thank you so much for sharing. This tactic works really well a lot of the time where other's fail.
In fact, I pinned your comment!
I’ve heard Dalmatians and Siberian Huskies are very difficult for full time workers.
Preach! I paid $1,250 for mine. Not including vet visits, food, toys, ear cropping, 10ft kennel, and accessories...
No job, no Dobie.
Thank you!
How the hell could anyone afford a doberman without working full time.
Exactly, I'm on my second dobie. She costs a fortune, but she's worth every bit. Between my work schedule and my daughter's school schedule we make it work for our dog, and she's the happiest dog ever I don't care what anyone says.
@@bertjudd3805if you don’t mind me asking how much?
The people he mentioned at the start of the video are stay at home mom's whose husband's provide the time for them to comment on forums.
I created a hardwood flooring business and brought Hunter with me…
I was able to train him 5-6 times a day as the owner / boss.
@@karamlevithat’s amazing, you’re both lucky to have each other
Im a dog walker, if nobody worked full time and owned a dog I wouldn't have a job!
Hahaha exactly! I love that a dog walker commented on this video! Haha, thank you!
We have 2 dobermans our dog walker is a life saver! Even if we are working from home (probably 50%) we have her come in Monday to Friday so the dogs have a predictable schedule:)
How do the dogs trust strangers to walk them? How are the dogs not a threat?
@@gingerandspice1209 I'd imagine they'll be socialized first.
One thing I've always been curious about, is how does it work from the point of view of access to peoples houses? Do people leave their dogs in a specified location that you have access to, or do people just drop a key off in the morning before they go to work or whatever?
"NO going on the couch!"
*sits on the couch during the voice over*
Haha yeah he knows he's not supposed to do that when I'm gone. Oh well... if that's the worst thing he does I'm happy.
Neby Moges 😂
I work full time. My Doberman stays at home 12 hours a day. Train, train, train and train early.
Mine did too for quite awhile! Any issues? Does yours have the run of the place or are they restricted to a certain area?
How about doing his business? Nothing for 12 hours or how does that work?
I always thought "personally" 12 hrs was way to long , we leave our dogs 5 hrs minimum. Do you leave them with toys ? Or have a dog walkers pop in for feeds or walks ? Just asking through interest not judging.
@@DobermanPlanet - I close the Masterbedroom, everything else is open.
@@DaniLore - I take him out to pee, he lingers outside if he felt he needs to poo, otherwise he pulls his way back into the house . I leave water to make sure he has something to drink.
I work full time 12 hr days sometime and my Doberman is just fine. No mess in the house or anything. Shes the best dog i ever had!!
Seems most forums are full of know it all people, heck even my drone photography forum I’ll go on occasionally is insanely elitist.
@@chevyhighrider That's with most things, truly.

Tragic.
@@chevyhighrider just use it for ur own benefit. Get the information nd leave. No need 2 talk 2 them lol
Absolutely. My husband and I worked full-time for years and raised Dobermans. They adjust but when you get home you're going to get a huge greeting and that's the best of the best!
I’m bringing home a pup on 23rd and just broke up with my stay at home girlfriend that was going to take care of him. My heart needed this video so bad you made my Day thank you so much ❤
What a loss for her I would’ve stayed just for the dog lmao
Love that you said it’s elitist. It totally is. My Doberman was very loving and content with being left alone when I needed to do so.
well, dont keep the secret to yourself… how did you do it?
Thank
You for your service . Stay strong and safe.
@@APWPaint Definitely not! That's awesome!
We have beagles and we have a 2 hr walks , 45 mins is smelling EVERYTHING haha.
i am a dog walker in San Francisco and so i was able to take my doberman with me all day every day and yet work full time - he worked with me and the dogs - it was a magical moment in my life man - he passed way to young and i miss him everyday still
“Dogs live 10+ years, you should get a cat” as if those little monsters don’t live 20 years.
@@gingerandspice1209 if you like big dogs then I see most people say great danes are amazing with apartments and are pet friendly

Sounds like you had some great experiences!! I mean... other than the hole in the couch! Ugh. And to make it to 13! Such a good long life!
It’s good to leave the tv and radio on so they feel a sense of someone
Very good point! I've heard that works wonders for some dogs!
I usually leave the tv on, seems to work. 👍
I play the LION KING movie while i go to work for 8 hours it just keeps playing whie I'm out!
I do this too, music and dog TV on RUclips
I play “Who let the dogs out” for 8 hours so he knows somewhere out there a dog is feee
Wow 🎉
I think the problem is, dobermans are such an awesome and amazing breed that owners start thinking they’re special just for having one and not just anyone is worthy. I must admit, when I was a young Doberman owner I was also a little guilty of this. When I’d tell people I had Dobermans and they weren’t impressed I’d be baffled. People on the forums should be more encouraging. They were a new Doberman owner once and had to go buy or rescue theirs just like anybody else. I hear a lot of people say”certain breeds aren’t for unexperienced owners”. Well how else do you get experience?
get a dog for your dog. worked for me. my Dobie loves having a full-time playmate and no longer has separation anxiety.
Would cats work!?

“No Going On The Couch” and the dog is on the couch through the whole video 😂😂😂
I just love how John lowered his voice when Cooper was sleeping in background :)
I actually found that with my dog just saying "I'm gonna visit x" and saying bye to them makes her a lot calmer and prevents barking alone a lot.
The best baby I have ever had. I was with Sheba most of the time. There are way too many grand things I can say about my experience with her. She was a gift beyond words.
This channel is refreshing, thank you
Thank you so much Ksenia! I really appreciate the kind words! I'll do my best to keep it that way!
The person who said, "you'd be better off getting a cat", must not have ever known a Siamese cat.
Or a persian. My cat can’t stay home alone more than ~7 hours and after that she starts to ruin my furniture haha!
Any cat!
Just adopted my son Doberman😍That’s why I’m following you🙏😍 ☮️💟🇵🇭🇺🇸🇨🇱
My uncle had a female Doberman when he was working full time and he taught her to pee in the bathtub when she can"t hold it anymore.
How did he do that? Lol
i really needed to hear this even as a 16 year old who doesn't even work. :)
also, would getting another dog that gets along well with your dobie help with boredom?
So glad to hear it! It's TOTALLY doable but that first year as a puppy can be ROUGH and you will need help during the day checking on the puppy on your work days. Spend some serious time planning it out and you can find a way of your certain that's what you want. Two dogs can be good to help the dog with entertainment when they're older. But two dogs is twice the work for you! Maybe consider a second when the Dobie is past the puppy stages and is more of a trusted adult dog.
Did u get one ?
You tube music for dogs and virtual walk has been a life saver. Keeps 🫎 Moose very calm and relaxed. ❤ There's all different ones, some play constantly for 10 hours.
I worked Full time M-F and sometimes Saturday! I just got two of them and they played with each
other and did fine
A adult Doberman can easily stay alone a working day, especially when you have two of them, in the morning I power them out one hour. When I come back from work. I go another hour. When you sleep at night, nobody make a break and go outside after four hours with his Dog if not necessary, why should it be different by day? Older Doberman sleep nearly 20 hours a day. Regards from Germany
Danke🙏🏻

I know different dogs may act differently than yours, but this information was great. This was probably the MOST informational video I've ever seen on youtube. Great job. Subbed
Thanks so much Justin. Really proud to have you as a subscriber!
Thanks Lola! Yeah they can be such great dogs in so many situations. Obviously you put some real care into raising her and you've done well! Nice job!

I think having more than one really helps to keep them happy when you're gone! That sounds like a great setup!
You're very welcome. I'm so glad you got something useful from it! I hope you do get a Dobie!
I work full time . My boy thrives . Day care 4 days a week and spend every moment with him while I’m home !
Great job!
So glad you liked the video! I love that you live close enough to go home on lunch breaks and see your dog, that's great!
Great rundown on caring for Dobermans while away at work 👍
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed it!
So... this video is a HUGE help for me
Thank you so much for making this video!!
I love how people say you should only buy a $2000 dog only if you don't work very much. That's great finical advice.
I appreciate you sharing what you did when you had them as puppies, it helps me not worry to much if I decide to get a puppy
I was gone for about 15 hrs one day and had to leave my female dobie alone in the house. Not one thing was damaged, not one puddle or pile, nothing. She was one of a kind.
I was of the mind that I couldn't have one until I got my dream job. This gave me hope! Thank you
Vet bills are expensive.
Refreshing that you take a common sense approach to raising a dog. Great channel.
Thnx for creating this vid cause i go to school from 7:00am - 5:00pm. And i really want a Doberman.
We’re getting our Doberman puppy in a couple months! Working to get the home ready for him
I want a Doberman so badly ): sadly I live in an apartment and working full time feels unfair for a big dog ): I feel like no matter how much I would be able to take it out it wouldn’t do justice
Yeah, that's a tough combination for sure. The first year of the dog's life in that situation would be toughest. Just gotta know what you are getting into and make what decision you think is best for the dog. Sounds like you have a level head and are thinking it through. Start looking for a place with a yard!
🙄😔 me too
Annie - whatever dog you choose will be so well taken care of because you are concerned.
