Hi!! I just got a 12 week puppy 3 days ago and his ears aren’t clipped do you think it’s too late to do that? And shes use to being in a fenced back yard but my house doesn’t unfortunately & I tried to take her out and she won’t come off the porch. I know this isn't super relevant to this video in particular. Have you ever heard of anyone mixing Dobermans and German pinchers? or a least a mini line of Dobermans? Arlo is so much bigger at 2 months old than mine is lol I brought my first 9week old dobie 3 days ago and she is tiny. Her feet are really huge but body doesn’t match yet lol. My struggle with potty training right now is that I can’t take her outside yet cuz she doesn’t have all her shots. Will this be an issue in the long run?
Our doberman puppy has one strange behavior. Maybe someone can help. Argon is almost 5 months old. Sometimes during the walks at totally random situations he starts jumping, biting the leash or me. He can do this 1-3 times during a walk, depends on the duration of the walk. He doesn't do this in the house. I'm trying to say "No" to him and prevent from biting then, he calms down and it's ok. I think it is side effect of the teething process but I'm not sure. At some period of time he wasn't doing and suddenly he started doing it again (maybe two weeks ago) when the teething rushed again. Somebody had a similliar struggle?
My breeder is adamant that I keep my dog at home with only light activity because my puppy is not up to date on her shots. I want to socialize my dog, but I'm being torn with advice

We just had to put our Doberman down. We have been Doberman owners for 30 years. They are an awesome breed, but not everyone can own one. Thanks for your channel. It is wonderful to see a doberman puppy again. You are spot-on with your guidance. Our breeder is no longer in business. If you have any leads to a solid breeder I would appreciate any help. Once a Doberman owner....always a Doberman owner.
What is the reason they are having their ears cropped and tails docked? It's cruel and inhumane and banned in some countries. I'd never have my doberman puppy's ears cropped. No benefit. Another thing I would stamp out is dogs on the furniture. No dog I have ever owned would dare jump on a sofa. Can't blame them if you bring them in from a walk and the dog is wet and they jump on a seat. Big no no.
We just got our 8 week old puppy yesterday. She’s only had one set of shots. Do we need to wait until she’s had all 3 sets (so January) to start the heavy socialization (other dogs and lots of people)? Can we take her in the pet store with us yet? Thanks!
There is a few reasons. Aesthetic would be the main one nowadays. Tail is one, if not THE weak spot on a dog and since it was originally made for protection, weaknesses is not good. Ears will be the first part damaged during a fight and it doesn’t heal properly/might get infected. If it’s not floppy, it’s safer during a fight. The look? It look scarier/more aggressive. Now I know you can post the ears without cropping but of course it won’t have the same shape.
Got my first doberman a day ago. Red rust. 10 weeks. Docked (not my choice, would have kept the tail) but uncropped (i love dog ears so ill be keeping those). Dew claws removed as well (again not my choice). I currently taking him out to pee every hour. Our large 100lb doberman rott mix has taken well to him... no incidents. I can already tell im in for a challenge. Hes all over the place or sleeping.
What a selfless, loving. Fulll of wisdom channel you provide. Your far reaching impact is immense. A deep bow of gratitude for all you do on educating us.
Parvo Is very common & deadly with dobermans before 18-20 weeks/last set of shots . Don't take them to dog parks during that time. If they stop drinking and eating ( parvo symtoms ) take them to the vet ASAP because they could die within 24 hrs.
I watch your every single video to learn more about my first dobie, and she is now 6 month! Your video helped me mad e my decision ending up get a dobie, and taught me what to expect, also how to make her becoming the best puppy. I appreciate your sharing, wish all the dobies the best🎉
Wau nice vidios. Except disappointing 😢you promote earcropping and tail cropping. I am from Germany, I find it cruel that Americans are still in having digs look like fighting dogs. That is so inhumane what people do to there dogs. Same as overbearing all for the $$$. Most people can't handle dogs afford them have to money to care fir them or the love. I see big dogs in Apartments so wrong. It serves no other function than to help a dog adhere to a certain breed standard. It does not prevent ear infections or improve a dog's “balance.” While it's illegal in most of the Western world, it's only regulated in nine US states. (Here's a past post on this and the AVMA's policy.) Ear cropping is an elective surgery currently implemented in approximately 20 dog breeds, including Dobermans, Great Danes, Boxers, Schnauzers, and many others. This procedure involves the surgical removal of most or all of the flappy portion of the ear. The surgery may be followed by taping to train the ear cartilage into the desired position. Historically, the surgery was implemented practically for these breeds. However, it is now considered only cosmetic and has been banned in most countries. While still legal in most of North America, there are some things to consider before pursuing an ear crop on your puppy. That is not love that is ego of Humans.
How to potty train Doberman? My one is almost 3 mnts old and still can’t hold longer than 3-5 seconds(( if I carry her - I often end up covered with her pee and 💩!😣
Also, my dobby is barking at 4mo very often, very strong protective instincts. I believe he picked up from my roommates 2 year old German Shephard because she is constantly running our fence line and barking/ very protective of the house.
I'm getting my very first doberman in 4 months in August 2023, a full European male from a vetted breeder and it has been my dream to own one for 15 years and it's finally going to happen! My son is excited, my husband is scared. I've been watching a ton of your videos too prepare and I've read tons of books on the breed over the years. This will be my first dog as an adult and my first puppy. Since growing up, my first dog was adopted as an adult so I've never had a puppy and never trained one. I'm excited but also a bit scared to be honest but I'm willing do so the work with my 7 year old son. Your videos give me confidence and knowledge in one place and I watch and rewatch your videos a lot to remember techniques and details. Thank you so much! Thank you to various dobe communities for advice and such. Wish me luck and tons of patience!
My first lesson with a Dobe puppy is to use wide feeding bowls, his chin broke out from touching the sides of a medium-sized bowl. Second, because he's high energy the best toy is a tree tuggerI found on Amazon for 25 bucks.. It's a tough bouncy green ball that has a bungy cord and hangs from a tree in my backyard that will give your Doberman all the exercise he needs in 15 minutes. Your dog will run. jump and tug non-stop. The best 25 bucks you ever spent. Avoid giving him peas, potatoes, or grain-free foods which can lead to DCM. NEVER give your dog grapes, which are toxic. I give him a beef flavored daily with breakfast that he loves called Pet-Tabs Plus Multivitamin and Mineral Supplement also on Amazon. Finally, once a week I cook chicken hearts and liver in a little coconut oil seasoned with just iodine salt, then I add just a cup of brown rice, mixed vege's without peas and a splash of bone broth. Sometimes, I add lean ground beef and a teaspoon of extra virgin coconut oil on top. Just as a side note - he absolutely loves ice water vs. no ice.
For the teething u can take an old towel and get it wet twist it wring it out and freeze it in like a rope shape for them to chew on and kinda help numb their gums
For me, the worst has been the chewing on things part with my doberdane. So many wooden window sills and moldings have been damaged, even with the bitter spray! Oof! Started to improve a lot around 7-8 months. Phew!
But many other guides say that 7-12 months is puberty phase, up to 18 or even 24 months for large breeds. Shouldn't then testing of boundaries increase instead of slow down?
Occasional accidents in the house ??? Is an understatement. He urinates every 30 minutes.....im almost having a exhaustion break down.....every 30 minutes swiping floors and sanitizing them is a full day job. Mid night he pees in 3 to 4 locations on the floor. Put him in the bathroom near the shower drain and he holds his pee....TILL YOU BRING HIM BACK TO THE ROOM and then instantly he pees.
@@princelather1251 > Now hes 6 months old. Hes a dobberman, just specifying. He seems to have learned and matured on his own. And tries not to pee indoors. Plus we shifted him to the garage but even there he 90% of the time doesn't pee and waits to be let out of the home.
@@jz4057 Thanks. Now hes about 10 months old. He only does his business outside the closed 1500 sqft garage where we've made a spacious spot for him to stay. Hes a doberman. But we always leave a water bowl full of water always next to him and keep topping it up 3-4 times a day, should we stop doing that ?
@@simplysurfing at 10 months old he should be good with holding out for potty time. It’s more of a habit now. I would just leave the water out for him. I had 2 Dobermans and now have a Doberman puppy that’s 12 weeks old. I’m going through the same thing you did. Sounds like he is getting comfortable with the situation. If you are ok with it and don’t have lots of time just let him be. However as they grow up it’s going to be a lot of poop and pee to clean up. If you want him to change it’s going to take lots of time and hard work. I would take him out for a long walk after meal time. Give him praise and treats when he goes potty outside. You need to be consistent. Once you stop they’ll just go back to the same behavior. It’s easier said than done. I myself struggle with time between work and everything else. But know the good thing about dogs is that it’s never too late to change their behavior. Plan for a period of time when you can concentrate on training. And once trained, they’ll be good for life.
@@jz4057 > Nice to know that you own a Doberman pup now. Now the potty thing is well organized and he only goes outside my bungalow maingate. So that's taken care of. Currently my main problem is....he was trained sit, stand, crouch down, stay etc and was performing them with military spec accuracy from age 3 months to 8 months age....then he slowly started ignoring commands....he does obey....need to say SIT 5-6 times and then he sits. Ive never left a break in training....everyday ive been doing it. But he just slowly grew out of obeying instantly and he does it now but lethargically and if you insist over and over. Main thing is he seems very distracted. Now theres no recall obedience. I keep on calling him and hes just standing looking at me...then sniffing, looking elsewhere like hes deaf. And my worst problem now is taking him for a walk....he pulls like hes a sledge dog on duty and wants to keep on pulling for 45 mins throughout the walk. Ive watched YT videos and trained him to walk slow and perfect....1 week he does it perfect...then FORGOTTEN. The main issue with my dog seems to be....he learns, it becomes habit and then he just forgets/ignores. WHen walking on leash its like hes chasing invisible butterflies, you get the picture i hope, tugging and pulling in one direction and in the next 5 secs jumps and yanks as if chasing someone in the other direction. All this in an open empty village field with no distractions. 😥
Greetings, I have been through many things in search of the perfect Doberman for me until I found your channel, thanks to you I found a wonderful breeder always willing to answer open doors from the beginning to visit the farm and meet the future parents of my puppy. present throughout the process, even a video of the moment of birth, has been beautiful. Love your videos but the one problem I haven't seen being addressed is furniture chewing. Our 8 month old decided to start chewing on the couch. She's been punished but not drastically because I know Dobes are so smart that someX they'll punish you back for punishing them. I've sprayed NoChew and then just when we think she's learned, we walk through the living room and there's the destruction again. At my wit's end and Hubs wants to make her an outside dog which will never happen. Any advice will be super appreciated

Hallo, my name is Soreta, I live in South Africa. I have watch your videos on RUclips because we have a female Doberberman pup that is 4 months old. I enjoy your videos, my problem is that I have 3 beagles that is 6 years old and they are a big distraction. We want to play hide and find with our pup, my daughter hides and I ask our pup to find her, she does that but when she finds her, she bites her legs and don't let go, what must I do to make her understand when to stop, is she to young to do that now.
My doberman is a little over 4 months old and still pees in the house 3 - 4 times a week. I have been consistent with my training since I brought him home at 8 weeks. No UTI or other medical condition. He learns commands very fast. He is already flying through obedience classes and heeling on the leash, so he isn't stupid. Why is potty training such an issue?
I have a question here.I am planning to buy a dobie puppy and I am curious if you think it's better to go out on my property for a week or so(have lots of space and a trailer to live in, or start directly at home, where I live in rent? My thinking was that first we get used to eachother, and than to the living place,as that way I can learn to train him better and bother the neighbors less.
Hello my doberman is about 8 weeks old and she’s starting to bite shoes and everything. How do I get this to stop since she’s biting us and we’re trying to fix this problem while she’s young.
Hi John, absolutely love the videos and have learned a lot from your channel. I welcomed my first Doberman Luna (female) into our home in November at 8 weeks old. She is now over 3 months old and doing great. I followed so much of your training tips in the first few weeks. The only difference was I didn’t start in the bedroom with the crate training at night. I kept the crate in the kitchen and slept on the sofa for 2 weeks. I found this much easier to progressively move myself away from the dog rather than move the dog away from me. Plus the dog gets to know this room is her bedroom at night. She has a great routine now, potty trained and sleeps through from 9am to 7am without a peep! Day time can be a little trickier juggling work, play time, exercise and the mental stimulation, but overall she is so much fun to be around. The main challenge I face is keeping everyone in the family consistent with the training E.g. good manners, waiting at the threshold, not jumping up and the dreaded nipping! Forgot to mention I am from the UK so Luna is a brown and tan dobbie with floppy ears and a curly tail! We love her to bits! Keep posting the vids John! I will take all the nuggets of information I can to make sure we get the best out of the relationship we have with our furry friend! ❤
You're not alone, Maddie! Here is a video about puppy biting that will be helpful: ruclips.net/video/nk3rXqEpBYI/видео.html. Just stay consistent and you'll see a payoff soon!
Not sure if this will be seen but... I started Obedience classes due to my 4 month old choosing to ignore me when other dogs are around. I wonder if other Doberman Owners go through the same or if this is normal for his age. (The obedience home and outside is perfect but once theres another dog i dont exist) (When going to the dogpark he also comes to check in on me so i know we share a great bond.)
@@sarahsgarden8035 understandable! I decided to avoid dog parks for now to work on him and his obedience because a recall is if not the most important thing. I'll avoid it as long as I'm more comfortable with him listening to me.
I'm really struggling with my 5 months old female Doberman. She's very dominant, and doesn't listen to firm NO. I keep redirecting her, saying No, giving other toys, but she is insisting on still biting on my hands, or getting whatever that she wants to get. Which is usually jumping on the kitchen counters and stealing food.Putting her in the crate is just a temporary solution, I want my dog to listen to me. Any suggestions how I can deal with this behavior? I'm also 6 months pregnant and I'm afraid she will continue this nipping, biting , stealing with the baby.
Here is a video we did about making your Doberman see you as the Alpha: ruclips.net/video/k8DcWNbrhqQ/видео.html. Being consistent with these steps will help!
Hi! We're considering adopting a 3 y.o. Dobie that's had 2 or 3 different owners. His current owner says he doesn't have the time to put into training, etc. and the dog has a few issues. Should we look elsewhere for a dog or give him a chance. I've owned other dogs so I'm not a newbie. Thanks!
If you have the time and dedication, give him a chance, and a second, and a third if necessary. If his problems aren't uncontrolled aggression or biting issues you will gain an amazing companion with work. Dobies do need a strong, consistent leader or they will assume the leadership role. And they need a "job". They love to work. Fortunately they excel at many of the dog "sports" so it isn't difficult to keep them content should you choose follow that route.
@@christopherblakeley thank you so much! This was my inclination as well. I'm thinking search and rescue, as I'm a retired police officer. Thanks again!
So I have a question. I have a 5 month old doberman and live in a very small town. Not many dogs to socialize her with. So I have to travel an hour away. Would it be too late for socialization? We do take her to Walmart here in town, to pick up my daughter from school and we try to get her to play with family's dogs (small breeds) we've been doing that since she was small. But she does react to other animals and some people. Also, we signed her up for a camp. We plan to leave here there a few days to be with other dogs. Would that help with socializing? Or is that window closed? I'm worried =/

I’d say better safe than sorry
Ear cropping and tail docking is cruel and unnatural. It’s banned in other modern countries but still legal in America.😢
in other “modern” countries?? 🙄🤦♀️
Listen i respect you but screw cropping the dogs ears. I looked it up and its painful and unnecessary
I watched a video yesterday called "7 Ways Doberman Dog Breeds Are Different From Others" and I believe they used some of your footage.
They sure did! Thanks so much for bringing that to our attention, Joe!

If you label yourself as someone who suffers from chronic depression, than you are right.
Thanks!
Carry her around if you can. Just being outside and seeing things going on is socialisation 😊
I really want to understand why in the world people crop their ears and dock their tail. Why. Why. Why.
In my country finally is forbidden to mutilate dogs.
Hes all over the place or sleeping.
where did you buy it ? im living in pearland texas and still couldn't find any legal places to buy dobies

The Video is Too Good for first time Doberman Owners 👌👏👏👍👍
So glad you enjoyed it, Vijay!
I completely agree. That is the situation with my dobie.
Have you found any solution? I'm going through same situation with my 3 month old puppy.
Now the time has come on December 17th my puppy will finally come home I will pick him up and he will come by car with me I have chosen that it be a female and I am very nervous you recommend socializing but she tells me to keep her at home until her second round of vaccinations What would be the correct week for that second round of vaccinations since I am worried that he will get sick and I already have his appointment planned for the ear cropping in his 10th week I read your answers thanks for the channel it is very effective and I do not miss a single video .
i have a 1.25 year old dobie. hes very good with puppies and small dogs, but he gets the yips when big dogs chase him. hes still young, and i can feel for him being scared of big dogs chasing him; however, he lives with a rottweiler and has no problem getting physical with my rottie when my rott wants to play rough. is it an age thing? ik older dogs have a different way of viewing non-neutered males(like my dobie)
Love your videos but the one problem I haven't seen being addressed is furniture chewing. Our 8 month old decided to start chewing on the couch.

I just got my puppy but I think it was to early. She is 6 weeks old
Hi John, absolutely love the videos and have learned a lot from your channel.
