      As a family we have a Doberman and a medium-sized mongrel, and I've got to say I prefer the mongrel's laid-back temperament; the Dobe is very much THERE. Impossible to do art in the same room, for example. But I love the breed when they settle and are well trained, which these videos really help to achieve!

    • @raymonddeflaviis2306

      @@zauberholz8357 I am considering getting a companion dog for my intact Doberman. But I am hesitant. He is well behaved inside - but another dog could distract him.

    • @zauberholz8357
      @zauberholz8357 3 года назад

      @@raymonddeflaviis2306 Yes there are a lot of things to consider with two dogs! I think if you have another it works better if they're similar energy-wise.
      Our situation is complicated, as the Doberman belongs to my grandparents and she has run of the living room/kitchen, while my mongrel stays in this side of the house/my bedroom. Dobe is 7 months old, mongrel 4 years, and has been here longer. Dobe bullies mongrel so they can't be in the same room for long unfortunately! It's sad as she got on well with the last Dobie who died a couple of years ago aged 10.5yrs. Their energies were more balanced.
      I would recommend adopting an adult dog so you can see how they get on beforehand! One who can be an equal playmate for your Dobe, while not challenging him for food/toys/your attention etc. as he might get jealous.

    • @raymonddeflaviis2306
      @raymonddeflaviis2306 3 года назад

      @@zauberholz8357 Thanks for the feedback. Sounds spot on from what I have observed when we bring his "girlfriend" over, for playdates.
      It's a lot more challenging owning an intact male. My life would be easier if I had him castrated, like so many do. But I am confirmed in keeping him intact.
      And yes, even at 7 months old, a male Doberman can be an asset for personal protection.

    • @zauberholz8357
      @zauberholz8357 3 года назад

      @@raymonddeflaviis2306 A dog similar to his "girlfriend" would probably be a good match, then!
      I can imagine it is a challenge. For their health it's definitely better to wait until they're fully mature, especially for big breeds. Personally I think it's best left until after 2 years old, though it's still a controversial area.
      All show dogs are left intact, so it's clearly something that can be managed as long as the dog isn't left to roam! We just don't go to the park when our female is on heat.

    I think that chalk trick actually refers to boric acid chalk. Regular chalk isn't going to dissuade very many ants if any at all. But boric acid is sold in chalk form and would be effective at deterring them without putting the dog at any risk

    • @DobermanPlanet

    I would advise using a washable cloth instead of baby wipes for two reasons:
    1. you don't know if the chemicals on wipes may irritate your dog (they'll lick their fur after, too)
    2. wipes aren't re-usable and are made of plastic, making them an environmental hazard.

    To help with our puppy’s “resource guarding” , we didn’t put our hand in the bowl. We held the bowl and fed him by hand. There were several nips we got at first because well, he believes he is always starving! However now, 7 yrs old, in the middle of eating I can call him over and he will stop eating to see what I want then I usually give him a small treat and send him right back to his food. Feeding by hand was tedious at first but it has paid off!! He won’t even get upset when my cat shows up to see what he has for dinner.

    Nyx loves the snow, but hates rain.

My observation is he eats a few bits then he's good.. Same with my rottis. In fact, you may not agree with it but with my rottis I started just leaving the food bag open and they just eat when ever they want.. I wonder if some of these problems develop due to how the owner is feeding the dogs.. I'd like to have a conversation.. Just things I've encountered. My first time having a Doberman. I'm loving it.

    The training before food works amazing, I’ve run out of stuff to have her do. 1 thing I have issues with is getting my Greta to act decent when around other people, she basically go nuts because she’s so excited. Any ideas?

    I wonder what the purpose of the dog walking between your legs trick is for - is it just for obedience or does that serve a specific purpose?

    I found out last weekend that I misunderstood breeder about DNA testing she requires. There is no blood DNA testing. I need to do EXACTLY what you asked us all to do with our dobes. I need to do the x-rays and get hip info to see how that is. Good grief. I should have a how-to book with all I am required to do before saying anything. Well, I'm learning. All I know for sure is I await every single video you do. My heart is in the shape of a dobe. That is all I am sure of.

    I've heard that while feeding your dog their bowl should not be on the ground level. What's the reason, do you know? And why don't you do that?

    • @zauberholz8357
      @zauberholz8357 3 года назад +2

      It puts strain on their shoulders having to hunch, I think. Having it raised so their front legs are in a natural position means there is less tension!

      Some studies indicate a raised feeding bowl increases the chances of bloat.

    • @DobermanPlanet
      @DobermanPlanet  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for reaching out, Saanvi! That's a great question. Arlo is fed from the ground level, as you can see in some of the videos. The biggest argument against a raised food bowl is that it can cause bloat. Studies are inconclusive as to whether or not feeding from a raised food bowl actually increases chances of bloat (or doesn't affect it at all), but you can check out this video if you're wanting more details on that: ruclips.net/video/Z5XAOQ8e-SM/видео.html (sources for that study are linked in the comments).

    Constructive criticism: people click videos to see the content advertised.. Not watch side videos that drag on. I like the info provided and am appreciative if it. Just flustered with the time lost on random side videos like I’m watching Family Guy.

    Thanks!!! very big thanks here from the Philippines!!! I am checking all the videos for a week now because I am planning, preping carefully to have a dobie 6 months from now. I'm about to move from my family's house and start all over since I am now single, ang got separated from my partner. Your channel and videos made me to decide to have a dobie as a protection and companion dog, somewhat a therapy dog...looking forward to seeing new videos in the future. More power to you and your channel!! Mabuhay👍✌️🎉

    I think I'll try it, see if it does the trick - my house will probably smell like a mint lane for the next couple of days, though XDDDD

    Quesiton! Maybe someone in the comments can help. My Dobe is 10 months old and has never seen a cat before due to the pandemic. She’s very good with small dogs at the dog park. Generally, would Dobes in her position be okay living with a cat?
