  • Check out our full review of the Nexus 5, including our video review and comparisons, at Pocketnow: /2013/11/09/nexus-5-review (Full description below)
    One is a unibody aluminum flagship launched almost a year ago, a hardware showboat built to bring unique audio and optical features to the Android world. The other is a minimalistic slab of "hardcore plastic" with the specs of a superphone but the price of a budget model, its entire purpose to showcase the very best of Google's handheld products and services.
    So why are these devices, so far apart in time and targeting, being brought together for this comparison? Because each is top-tier, in its own way - and each is also sold in the Google Play Store.
    Dive in, then, to Nexus 5 vs HTC One, our attempt to answer the question of whether BoomSound and beastly build quality is worth the extra Benjamins a branded flagship will run you, compared to Google's newest Nexus. Then swing on by our Nexus 5 vs Moto X comparison on your way to the latest Pocketnow Weekly podcast, where we spend most of the episode talking Nexus 5 with Brad Molen of Engadget. And stay tuned to Pocketnow for our full Nexus 5 review, coming just as soon as we can whip it together!

    2. z1

    5. htc one
    sorry but im going with the newest hardware and software + pure android beats any other flashy software cough cough samsung

      I had the LG G2 when these where new (and the G3 after that). I liked G2 better than all the rest. Battery life is still the best I had on a phone to this day. Yes, they had a bit more "flashy software" inspired a bit by Samsung. But it was great and had more features I used built in than stock Android could bring. Samsung at the time had way too much stuff. Today in 2019 it's another story :P
      I have the Note 10+ today.

    I've been using Apple's products since 07' and the only reason why I've changed my mind about IOS is the HTC ONE. I'm so in love with it. I love that beautiful design, I love HTC Zoe, Blinkfeed, everything. It's just an amazingly beautiful phone !

      Will honestly older people in general will never understand smart phones and just go by what's on the TV in commercials like the iPhone in samsung galaxy phones because there more popular might not be the best but this is the truth not everyone is a tech nerd ***** 99 percent of people just want the phone to work and work well they don't care about tricking it out

      It's not that the s4 is just more mainstream, its that HTC doesn't market their phones aswell. India being the booming market it is for high end smartphones is dominated by Samsung and Apple because no one even knows that theirs a new HTC phone out that blows those two up there out of the water. HTC needs to get its ads in gear and market the phones.

    • @treverpitts
      @treverpitts 10 лет назад

      Popat Panchat i agree they dont market alot

    • @popat997
      @popat997 10 лет назад

      trever pitts it makes me sad that a company with such an eye for detail and meticulous design isn't known world wide. They should really market the hell out of the their phones. Do what Apple does, release one flagshipband put all your marketing budget on that phone rather than releasing so many phones that the average Joe or Jane is so confused that the y just end up buying the iPhone, to be honest, if I didn't have a passion for technology and didn't watch or read media on phones etc. I wouldn't know anything about HTC because I haven't even seen a single ad for the one m8 since its release.

      Not really. They are both great. Its not all about power the HTC One performs like a dream as does the nexus. In my book they are equal. It is useless to try to choose between them which is better.

      Unadulterated Mischief your paying for some industrial company to electrolytically extract aluminium from its ore bauxite in which it this shaped and formed into a sexy cell phone body with amazing feel and build quality.. and the boomsound/ bets audio which destroy every other phones speakers...thats what the extra 200 is for

    • @anthonyj810
      @anthonyj810 10 лет назад

      Unadulterated Mischief
      They're not always $200 more. Esp if you have a upgrade on verizon, sprint, or at&t. Or start a new line of service. They're both like $99. And the htc one MAX is $250ish but it's like the galaxy mega with better specs.

    Initial indepth screen testing suggest that colour accuracy is actually extremely accurate on the Nexus 5, but many reviewers think it is "washed out". I think this is because they have become accustomed to the colour saturation boost OEMs use (yes, even the HTC One).

  • @popat997
    @popat997 10 лет назад +4

    I had to get a new phone because my note 2 died so I bought one m8 and I have to say that the software is so good I haven't even thought about nova launcher or any other launcher or even cyanogen mod. It's just that good, particularly the keyboard with blows even the ios keyboard out of the water in my opinion. So hats off to HTC, they've really brought it this year and the last and shown what you can do with a skin as compared to what Samsung did with their spray with the Tommy gun a approach.

    • @rohanseth8

      Stuti Mishra Sense is obviously more beefy which might result in a laggy device in near future. While, the Nexus devices are pure vanilla android and are guaranteed smooth and buttery. I'd recommend you to check out some HTC One videos and if HTC Sense UI looks appealing to you, go for it (remember, specs wise, it's not that great and I don't think the HTC One M7 will get the Android L (5.0) OS upgrade). Nexus devices attract more of the geeky and spec lover crowd, whereas, HTC One attracts the people who love a premium feeling device. I can guarantee you that nobody but you knows what device you must choose because it really depends on your needs.

    I agree with part of what ol Trev is saying. Mainstream or not I had an s3 and my mother uses an s4. While the Galaxy seems to have more features like sbeam and a better camera, I have an HTC one and the galaxy's cams are way better, the HTC one not being as "mainstream" seems to help it's quality. While I feel like Galaxy series has become cookie cutter the HTC one is truly an awesome phone. Bear in mind I never thought there would be anything better than a Galaxy. I know from marketing, that companies that do not do off the wall advertising will always have more money for R&D(research and development), because the money isn't sucked away into ads but put into a more superior product, or if not superior definitely of the highest quality. For instance the build quality of the One I would consider the highest quality.

    I have an iPhone 5. I used to have an HTC One back in July, but it was actually a demo phone (therefore the software wouldn't update) so I sent it back to Amazon for a full refund. I did love the phone, but I remember the music app's layout being awfully cumbersome. Is it worth switching back? I love its screen and speakers.

  • @MarekPawlowski
    @MarekPawlowski 10 лет назад

    This is one of your best. A balanced and informative piece, particularly the focus on seeing past the specs and helping potential buyers understand the actual experience. That said, I suspect for many it will be price that is the major factor, off contract at least...I might have been tempted to make the significance of this gap more apparent earlier in the video. The relative value of the Nexus 5 is extraordinary, not just compared to other Android devices, but across the whole mobile landscape. Can't deny, however, the finish of the One is tempting even at nearly twice the price.

    I've had the HTC One for 8 months, and just switched to the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 is a HUGE upgrade from the HTC One, i don't understand why people even think the HTC One is a candidate for android phone battles. The only nice thing that the HTC One has, is the IR Blaster. I dropped my phone just once and the IR Blaster got messed up. You still have to wait more than 2 months to get software updates compared to the nexus. Back when KitKat was first released for the nexus 4, it took more than 3 months for it to port over to the HTC One.
    Front facing speakers are NOT that big of a deal. I bought an extended battery case for my Nexus 5, called the iBlason Nexus 5 Extended battery case and it converts the bottom speaker to a front facing speaker. The HTC One's "BEAT SOUND" is a fucking gimmick. It's an equalizer setting you can turn on and off. When you turn it on the any plans to use the HTC One's camera then you should steer clear away from it. Lastly, I'd like to voice my complaint on HTC Sense.
    HTC Sense is the most annoying fucking add-on from HTC that came with the phone. It's an additional home page that not only slows the phone down, but drains the battery. For the 8 months i had the HTC One I not ONCE practically used the HTC Sense live feed. It doesn't display any information properly. It's just another gimmick that they threw into the phone. At the time I was an avid twitter,facebook, and instagram user. Not once did HTC Live Feed ever display my information correctly.

    2 years down the road my nexus 5 has done me proud. I have 2 friends who got an HTC One and both loved it. Problem is in the past few months both of their phones have crapped the bed while my nexus 5 is not only chugging along, it's performance is identical to the day I got it, with the exception of battery life being a bit shorter. Not a ton though.
    I am a die hard nexus fanboy after the past couple of devices. The 6 can be forgiven and hopefully the 5x will be everything the 5 was and greater.

Looking forward to using KitKat and having a pure Google experience. These will be my goto devices; I like to switch up when I'm bored with one. I sold my GN3; that device sucks to me. I love Android because you have good phone choices at different price points. I compared extensively all the high end offerings a couple of weeks ago and chose the HTC One over the G2, Nexus 5, and S4. I think the quality is there in all offerings, but I personally chose the One for build quality and ergonomics (prefer 4.7" screen to larger one), Sense UI (I like Blink Feed), BOOM SOUND with Beats Audio (I don't always have my headphones on me, but stream and listen to music constantly), Zoe (simple and creative video editing without the effort, never miss a shot) and most important... 9 months on the market and it is still considered one of the best offerings on Android! I totally see the value at $349 for the Nexus 5 though, I just think the hardware differences make the HTC One the better choice for me.

    I had the HTC One since launch day, then bought the Nexus 5 expecting to switch, but realistically the Nexus 5 was a big letdown. 8 hour battery life, poor camera, lower quality display, a single low-volume speaker that distorts, yet very fast.
    The HTC one is better built, has a better camera quality overall, stereo speakers and the HTC Sense 5.5 update makes it much more usable with a better battery life than the Nexus.
    It's worth going to a shop and checking them both side by side.

    The cameras on both are infuriating. Although the video on the nexus really is outstanding.
    Anyone currently owning a one and frustrated at the limited availability of the nexus? My advice would be to forget about it and just enjoy the One. Once the excitement of having a new toy wears off I think there is little in it.

    Got them both ... HTC One is better in Cam, look, feel, but Sense is anoying
    The Nexus does not feel as good .... but the Weight is better (lighter) and lays better in the hand ...
    But i dont know which one i would buy if i could only afford only one... Both are amazing phones..

      I somehow dont like the HTC one's look and the one 2 looks worse IMHO. Glad with my nexus. And it feels amazing, smooth soft plastic, not tacky. Feels like holding a cushion.

    The Nexus 5 is a $ 350 phone !
    So you compare it with other phones at $ 350, I'm sure it will win !
    If Google decides to release a $ 600 phone, it'll kill all the competitors !

    HTC One wins all day everyday. My only problem is battery life as I am on the heavy use side and I also don't like the bottom area of the screen, too much waste. Apart from that this phone is MEGA!!!! I gave the nexus 5 a go but just couldn't do it. I love the feel of HTC devices, when you got a phone worth 300+ in your hands you don't that plastic feel.

    • @thedominocreeper8969
      @thedominocreeper8969 10 лет назад +3

      No it doesn't. The camera is better on the nexus 5, it's faster, and gets lightning fast updates. The HTC one only wins in 2 categories, speakers and build quality. I use headphones so I don't really care about the speakers and the build of the nexus 5 is average. Not bad, Not good. But the Nexus 5 cost almost half the price. So for me, if I buy an HTC one, I am paying $250 more for build quality. Now don't get me wrong, the HTC one is a great phone, just can't compare to the Nexus 5's value for money.

    I've been using an HTC One for about 6 months, I love everything about this device...except the camera. The point of emphasis of low light performance was made to favor the HTC One but however my phone (along with SEVERAL other HTC One owners) have had the misfortune of owning a defective camera module that produces a purple/red/blue tint in any dark situations, completely hindering the low light performance on this phone. Due to this very reason I've jumped ship to the Nexus 5.

      I was able to warranty swap that at my Sprint Store! My One no longer has that issue. HTC initially thought it was a software issue, but is actually a hardware one. Within one year you SHOULD be able to go through your carrier on that.

    • @COballer
      @COballer 10 лет назад

      Unfortunately for me, I unlocked the bootloader and went S-OFF, completely voiding my warranty. Going back to 100% out-of-the-box stock does not exist for my Rogers (Canada) variant, no biggie though, VERY happy with the Nexus 5!

    I noticed that in Sweden the HTC one costs 5500sek=$785 and the nexus 5 costs 4500sek=$642. That's redicoulues the nexus 5 costs nearly the double amount of money in Sweden than in the US. I get so frustrated on Google some times.

    Great video as always. I am selling my one having bought the nexus but am having some second thoughts.
    The sound on the HTC one is so so good. RUclips experience is better or when at home I would play music through the speakers, the nexus really can't compete.
    The build of the one is gorgeous but without insurance I am forced to case it which loses the benefits of such quality feel in the hand.
    I hope in the long run with a camera software fix and instant Android updates the nexus5

  • @micaiahreese

    I can't make a final decision on which I want. I am a heavy media user so I need a lot of battery. Also I need good speakers. I also like taking pictures. But I like the way the nexus 5 looks on the front more than the htc one, but I like the back of the HTC one. Can't necessarily make a final choice

    • @alechilgers2248
      @alechilgers2248 10 лет назад

      Can't speak for the nexus 5 but my htc one speakers are next to none for media. Screen is gorgeous, and since the buttons are not on the screen itself you have more room to see things. It feels, looks, and performs premium. The camera is still really good and shoots great pics. and depending on your carrier or place you buy you can get silver, blue, black, and red for htc one. But either way I don't thing you will be disappointed.

      Alec Hilgers thanks. I'm on sprint so I can get it in all colors. If I get the HTC one ( whiches is very likely) I'm getting it in blue

      Cool I'm on Verizon so I could only get silver but then a month after I bought it blue came out so yeah, but whatever I got a slick wraps skin to protect it anyway so it looks fine.

    Dunno man. I purchased nexus 5 and shipped it back after 4 days use. My nexus 4 works better.
    Nexus 5 would drop calls, not pickup bluetooth where nexus 4 would do all that under the same situations.
    I'll stick with 4 for now and leave 5 to be fixed or replaced by 6.

    I don't fancy aluminium on the back of a smartphone, so for me Nexus 5 is better.
    A faster processor and GPU are enough for me to say it's better than the One.

    The One is a great phone, no doubt. IMO, the camera is suspect. After testing the One out numerous times, I just couldn't say anything positive about the camera performance. I can't say great things about the Nexus 5 camera right now either, but I believe it is better than the One.
    The one has the BOMB speakers, but I use headphones or my bluetooth speaker, so that's not a plus for me. Yes, the One's build quality is far superior, but I wouldn't say it's superior enough to warrant the extra $250 asking price.
    Battery life is going to be similar between the two. Coming from an iPhone, I'm already conditioned to keep my charger with me, and I also purchased an 11,000 mAh external battery that stays in my bag at all times. Nexus 5 has wireless charging, which I have yet to try, but it seems WAY BADASS!
    The Nexus 5 is more future-proof with the Snapdragon 800, Adreno 330, quick updates, wireless charging, and Google Wallet.
    Did I mention the price difference?
