I tried 7 Vintage Cold Creams for a Week.
Hello lovelies, I have been a fan of cold Cream for a few years now and wanted to test out a few vintage ones that you can still buy today. After trying them all out, I think Ponds Cold Cream is still my favourite.
    1. Ponds Cold Cream
    rstyle.me/+ugS...
By 1910, Ponds was a well-established brand among Americans. Concentrating primarily on their vanishing cream, the Pond's company began an ad campaign that would become popular because of the celebrities involved in it. "Pond's Healing" took a back seat to "Pond's Vanishing Cream," as "Pond's Healing" and "Pond's Cold Cream" would be announced in small print under the "Pond's Vanishing Cream" advertisements. By 1914, mentions of "Pond's Healing" was taken off the ads, and the Pond's company began to advertise "Pond's Vanishing Cream" and "Pond's Cold Cream" together, making sure to explain each Cream's different purposes on the new ads. One particular ad line read, "Every normal skin needs these two creams".
    Jergens Cold Cream
The Andrew Jergens Company began in 1882 in Cincinnati, Ohio, as the Jergens Soap Company. By the turn of the 20th century, the company had expanded to include several beauty care and cosmetic products and soon launched its most famous creation, Jergens Lotion.
    Albolene
    rstyle.me/+-pY...
For over a century, Albolene® has been cleansing and moisturizing generations of faces to keep complexions healthy and youthful-looking.
January 1915 Ladies Home JournalGenerations of theatre and screen actors trusted Albolene to gently cleanse their complexions and keep their skin looking vibrant, healthy and youthful. Albolene's proven effectiveness over the years has garnered a following of consumers that are looking to gently cleanse and moisturize their skin to keep it vibrant and healthy. It takes stubborn makeup off but keeps the moisture in. Plus, it's easy to apply and remove. It's the perfect combination for a practical yet effortless beauty routine. One of Albolene's first uses was to cleanse an infant's tender nose skin gently.
    Merle Norman
    www.merlenorma...
Merle Norman Cosmetics, known as Merle Norman, is an American multinational cosmetics company that manufactures makeup, skincare, personal care, and fragrance products headquartered in Los Angeles, California. The company is known for pioneering the "try before you buy" philosophy, letting customers try on products for free before purchasing.
The first store was opened in 1931 in Santa Monica by Merle Norman, and as of 2020, the company had 1,050 locations in seven countries, primarily in the United States, with outlets in 49 states and D.C.
    Queen Heleen
    rstyle.me/+fWg...
Queen Helene was founded in New York by Richard Estrin, who began his career as a beauty supply house salesman, got a degree in chemistry, and became a partner in Para Laboratories. Queen Helene's name was inspired by his baby daughter Helene, and the brand has been around since 1930.
    Noxema
    rstyle.me/+7IU...
Noxzema contains camphor, menthol, phenol and eucalyptus, among other ingredients. Originally developed as a sunburn remedy, it is frequently used as a facial cleanser and makeup remover. It can also be used for soothing chapped, sunburned, or otherwise irritated skin. Since 1914, it has been sold in a small cobalt blue jar.
    Nivea
    rstyle.me/+gRV...
1882: Paul Carl Beiersdorf established the company on March 28. NIVEA originated in Germany. The date of the patent document for the manufacture of medical plasters is taken as the date of the company's formation.1911: NIVEA Creme - the first stable water-in-oil emulsion - was introduced. The emulsifying agent Eucerit is made from lanolin, found in sheep's wool, and is the key to NIVEA Creme's unique properties.

You don't have to rinse the cold cream off or double cleanse. Just wipe it off and it doubles as your cleanser and moisturizer. Great for dry skin. If you have oily skin, the rinsing with rag method might be best.

    • @Mia_monroe56
      @Mia_monroe56 Год назад +5

Yes but really it’s best to wash off with soap after. Ever derm will tell u so. As it can lead to clogged pores. Even tho it’s stated as non comedogenic it can still clog some people pores dry combo or oily. And if u have dry skin u can use a non foaming gel cleanser like cetaPhil.

I don't wear or even own makeup, but I use ponds cold cream followed by cetaphil daily cleanser for a double cleanses every morning and night. I wear sunscreen daily, and it is REALLY is good for removing sunscreen. A lot of people who are into skincare but not makeup don't think they need to double cleanse, but we do! Sunscreen is actually really tough to get off. Also I use ponds as a shaving cream and my legs feel so smooth when I'm done. I also use the ponds dry skin cream as my morning moisturez

I have tried most of them as I am a vintage cold cream fanatic. I'd say the best are Pond's, Albolene, and Noxzema. The best for your skin is Albolene or the fragrance free version of Pond's. Dermatologists do not recommend Noxzema, because it has supposedly irritating ingredients, but my skin loves it.

In the UK Boots a famous high street chemist make a good cold cream. Ponds is still the best though. However I tend to use Johnson and Johnson Baby Lotion to remove makeup, these days, as I find cold cream doesn't agree with my skin, as I've got older.
Jergens do a very good hand cream, but I haven't seen it recently.

Howdy from Texas!! I just came across your video and was intrigued. My grandmother and mother used Merle Norman all their lives, so when it came time for me to start wearing make-up, my mother took me straight to Merle Norman. The lady taught me first and foremost about skincare and then foundation and colors, etc. Now I'm 50+; I don't use Merle Norman anymore. I use Bare Minerals, but I do use the Jergens cold cream to remove my makeup. I find it to be every bit as good as the Merle Norman, but easier to get since I can get it at the grocery store rather than making a special trip to the Merle Norman shop. I tried Pond's more than once, but it did not agree with my skin - very sensitive and prone to bad reactions. We had Noxema around all the time for sunburns when I was growing up. Anyway, this is was very interesting; I really enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing!

Ponds anti wrinkle cream and seal it all in with a little vasoline the best moisturizer. P.m. i use an expoliating face face wipe, ponds cold cream make up remover, under eye cream agIn and a little vasoline. Both times only take about 15 minutes. Thank you Laura for your video. I really enjoy them, especially when it's about vintage clothing, perfume or cosmetics. I have very dry skin. I've tried Ponds back in the day, as well as Noxzema for my breakouts or when I had bad sunburn. But, when you put the Nivea on, the reason why it was so thick, was because it's meant to be a moisturizer your face or body. Not as a "cold cream" to clean your skin the way Ponds does. I've read that you can use it to take off makeup, but you probably don't need so much of it.

If you’re not familiar with Trixie’s drag makeup, it’s extremely heavy with a lot of pigment. So maybe it’s best used for stage makeup removal rather than everyday makeup?

I am a Merle girl. I worked there for years, and love their skincare. I still use the brilliant c line. As an aesthetician, I would offer facial services at the store, and used the cold cream or the "aqua lube" for the face massage part. Great products

I love the Merle Norman Cleansing Cream, Miracol Cream Mask in the tube - mixed with the booster and alternate with the Miracol Lotion Masque, and sleep in Super - Lube when my skin is dry. My aunt used Merle Norman Cleansing products and the old Powder Base foundation and she had the most beautiful skin of all of my relatives which used other products. The powder base really protects your skin, she would use a poly puff to gently press her face to remove the heavy feel of the foundation. I worked there for one year before I went to University because of this aunt. I have tried other product during the decades but still come back to these product as always being in my skin care ❤

I swear by Noxzema-used it since high school and my skin loves it. I recall using it as a makeup base at times! I also swear by Albolene for makeup removal-not to cleanse skin. I use it to remove makeup (without water), then, I start the skin cleansing process when all of the makeup is removed. With combination oily, acneic prone skin, no way I could just wipe off makeup or use a makeup remover without separately cleansing afterwards. I'm sensitive to some ingredient in Ponds so I have to avoid that brand. TFS

    I LOOOOVVEEEE Noxema!!!
When I’m at a drug store and feel nostalgic, I’ll pick up a Noxema!
I used to use Phisoderm too, it smelled good-but I can’t find it anymore. I use Cetaphil wash only now. Like a gel. I feel like “I” like my face washed with a soapy kind of feel vs a cream. AND I use the scented too! I love some of the scents! I’m just 50 years though now and DO notice some smells make my nose red. Like if I’m at the beauty parlor? My nose is red! I don’t mind the smells!!! But my body is telling me otherwise.

Haha that Nivea! Laura, I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent video! I have always wanted to try Ponds after trying some of the new cleansing balms made me wonder about it. Now I will go get some. I am 60 and remember having Noxema as a teen, but I didn't use it all the time because it made my face so shiny and was super cold on the skin. I did love the texture when sinking my fingers in it. Your vintage jar looks really old, like 40s even. Was it made then? Mine in the 70s was blue glass with a metal lid but the graphics were much different where as yours looks almost deco. Loved this!

I love the ponds moisturizer. I use it twice a day at least. I only use the cold cream to remove makeup. For me, the cold cream is more oily and adheres to the skin instead of soaking in so I might try masking with it, but I'm not sure I'd use it as a face moisturizer.

The Dry Skin Cream by Pond's is a classic, and moisturizes better than any facial cream I have ever used. My one complaint is the fragrance. It smells great, but it's not a good idea to leave fragranced moisturizers on your face.

I just bought a cold cream under the name "Fresho" for $2.50 at the dollar store. I tried wiping it off on separate occasions with a cotton make up pad, a dry cotton ball, and a kleenex. I think that scratched my face, so next time I'll try a wet cloth. Face felt kinda oily after, cleaned it up by either washing my usual way after, or using toner. I need to make sure the formula itself isn't stinging my face. It's certainly different from using soap, foaming cleanser, or liquid make up remover. Need to figure out how best to use it. Would like to also try Pond's.

LoL! ANOTHERRR comment! Look at those cute Nivea ads! I swear I had a dream about my Hello Kitty Nivea I got at the local German deli one time! I used my Nivea the other day and thought of you!!
Andddd…I got a DOVE Beauty Cream the other day and LOVE the smell! It comes in a flat round package like Nivea cream does.
It seems like it’s new? I got it at Safeway, a local grocery store! I DO see Mineral Oil in the ingredients, but it’s not the first.
I have just used it for body cream.

I have good genes I guess cause I'm 61 and I have no wrinkles, just a hint of crows feet and a couple of lines on my forehead. My mom and dad didn't have many either, but my mom always used Pond's to take off her makeup, especially her eye makeup. I've used it since I started wearing makeup, taking care around my eyes to not tug at the skin. I wonder if Pond's has helped my crows feet cause I have a very expressive face and rode horses for 30 years in the sun and yet I'm pretty wrinkle free.
