  • Massive disclaimer first of all, Everybody's skin is different I am not insisting anybody tries this it is just what I enjoying using for myself.
    I do not have a skin care regime and I do not want one other than washing my face and occasionally slapping something moisturising on it to stop all the dry skin falling off.
    I like to use this as a moisturiser and similar to how it was used originally as a primer before make up.
    Georgiana Countess of Dudley's recipe book is available here.

    When we made cold cream in school when I was 16, my teacher said to make sure that the water and the fat were the same temperature before adding the water to the fat, because it made the emulsification easier.

      I think the very first recipe I tried which was a modern one said to do the same thing. However for these experiments I really wanted to just follow them exactly as written. Adding Borax helps with the Emulsification as well.

    Love this recipe. I've been making my own natural cosmetics for over 10 years, and if you want a natural preservative that increases the shelf life up to 2 years, use benzoin essential oil (also called benjamin essential oil in some websites). Please do more recipes. Love your channel ❤️

    If you add 2ml of propolis tincture to that amount it should extend the shelf life a bit. Add it to the watery part.

      Thank you. I actually have no problem with the shelf life, I just don't want other people to be grossed out by my lackadaisical approach to hygiene.

      I do really enjoy and old recipe as they really assume greater knowledge of all things than you can learn from a book. They expect that you have been shown how to do it properly and are just using the book for guidance.

    Another wonderfully peaceful video from you, and the old fashioned pharmacy part of me loves this sort of thing.
    Just a tip for anyone working with cocoa butter, don’t over heat it as this can change its setting/melting pointpoint so that it won’t solidify at room temperature. How do I know this ? Several failed batches of suppositories in a dispensing practical.
    Probably not too much of a problem in cold cream with beeswax but useful to know for things with higher cocoa butter contents

    Lovely video. Half the fun in making the creams is to read the directions from books like the 1911 "New" Home Cook Book.

      It is a very entertaining read although enjoy the Countess of Dudley book more as I am sure she did not write it but its quite brisk and brief.

    Oooo! Thank you for this video. I've wanted to try a simple homemade cream, yet hadn't gotten around to it. Feeling greatly inspired. Looking forward to the final review of all your dreams

    • @stanceymackenzie

      This is simple. I did start with a more modern recipe my first time from a soaping website as it holds your hand a bit more and includes some more natural preservatives, but now I am happy to try the old ones and make up my own.

    I also have dry skin, so if either of these work well on hands, feet, etc., as well as face, I'd love to know! On completely different note, I recently watched "Mary Poppins Returns," and when they showed the shoes Emily Blunt wore in the leerie dancing scene, I simultaneously thought (1) those look like the Blue Poppy Retro Oxfords like I got from American Duchess and (2) I bet Constance MacKenzie was involved with these wonderful costumes. And, there was your name in the credits! Makes the film (which I now own in Blu-Ray, DVD & digital) that much better.

    • @stanceymackenzie
      @stanceymackenzie  2 года назад +1

      Yes her red shoes with bows on where very similar too. I know the film came out before the shoes, but with the design process always having to work ahead of schedule who knows who actually came up with the idea first. or maybe the both saw the same original inspiration. I am glad you enjoyed Mary Poppins, if it was anything worn by the children then I will have worked it especially the little boys clothes.

    Enjoyed watching this, but the music swamped the dialogue in sections and I couldn’t hear what was being added to the mixtures. So, turn down the music and boost the dialogue please. Great to watch though!

    • @stanceymackenzie
      @stanceymackenzie  2 года назад +3

      Sorry about that, it gets very confusing with multiple edit runs and trying to keep information constant as to what is at the correct level sometimes

    • @kathleencameron3968
      @kathleencameron3968 2 года назад

      @@stanceymackenzie Thanks for your response. I didn’t truly appreciate how difficult it is to edit for sound and content- will try to be more patient! However, I did love your film (and especially the one about the silk-lined muff) and am looking forward to seeing more.

    • @stanceymackenzie
      @stanceymackenzie  2 года назад +1

      Thank you I know that sound quality is a very important for some people and a reason that lots of people turn off videos, if its poor. I do not particularly worry about it in other videos or my own but I will try to improve it. I do not have a microphone and the one on the camera is not really strong enough, but I detest the little clip on mics as a visual and have no idea what one should buy when it comes to voice over microphones so some research is required.

    Do you use it as a handcream?

    • @stanceymackenzie
      @stanceymackenzie  2 года назад +1

      It is intended for the face or for make up removal. but of course you can use it on your hands. I like cold cream as I have dry skin on my face so I like the oilyness it leaves behind. Some people may not like this on their hands as it may take a bit longer to absorb into the hands. I do not have a skin care routine and rarely manage to put on hand cream so I will try anything going.
