    This was so special to see happen because there was genuinely bad blood between them and they would badmouth each other in the media all the time. For this to happen it was truly incredible to see them playing songs they used to play together in 1981 - 1983.

    this was a very important moment - Dave Mustaine was the original lead guitarist for Metallica but was kicked out of the band because of Dave's alcahol issues - he went on to form Megadeth, one of the big 4 early thrash metal bands along with Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax - there was alot of animosity between Dave Mustaine and primarily Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield of Metallica for decades
    This is the first time they got back together to play as a band since the time I just mentioned (I believe he was kicked out in either 1982 or 1983)

      And seemingly the final straw was Dave's drinking and arguing during their U-haul road trip from L.A. to NY to record Kill Em All, where allegedly Dave came close to running them off the road at one point. So they woke him up the next morning and handed him the bus ticket.

    This was one of those Hell just froze over moments. This was unbelievable and we all figured this was to be the last miracle like this we'd ever see. Then Slash and Duff rejoined Guns N Roses and The Misfits reunited ending with Demons and Wizards finally doing a tour after being a thing for 20 years (though that will definitely never happen again). This was the catalyst for bands whose members hadn't spoken to each other or played with one another in decades to look at each other and say "Hey, if Metallica did it... why not!"

    When Dave was fired he told the Metallica guys to not use any of his music. So he was extra-pissed when he saw 'Kill 'Em All' with his songs and riffs on the album, not to mention his solos played note-for-note by Kirk Hammett. He was also confused as to how Lars found his way onto the writing credits of every song he had his name on.

    I'm really glad things turned out the way they did. Dave starting Megadeth was great for the metal scene. I think if Dave would've stayed in Metallica they never get to where they are. I think they probably would've broke up and that would've sucked. Lars, James & Dave's ego's were too big for 1 band. 3 leaders= no leaders.

    I love Dave. He's more musically gifted than anybody in Metallica. The poor guy is/was just crazy. He can't help it. He's beaten his substance abuse issues now, which was the main issue when they fired him. Imagine what it would take to boot somebody like that out of the band. I'm glad they did though, because now we have Metallica AND Megadeth.

    I forgot their version of Hit the Lights feat. Mustaine, original bass player Ron McGovney and Grant Lloyd in guitar. The first guy Lars Ulrich recorded with. Great guitarist. Lars' father Torben Ulrich were a World class tennis player and Lars moved from Denmark to USA to play tennis. But in his neighbourhood there were a lot of better players so he decided to start a band and play drums. His father also played jazz. He's still alive at the age of 92. I'm probably gonna piss off some old 'heads, but I'm one too, so I'm allowed. While "Ride The Lightning" is my personal favorite Metallica LP, "Kill em All" is a close second. I've still got a bootleg cassette of Kill em All floating around somewhere (a bootleg LP as well). That's how the band grew their initial hardcore following before signing with a label. I never subscribed to the "rift" between Megadeth and Metallica. Personally, I think that it was something that the fans of both bands took and ran with. And, both bands played on it as well for a time because even "negative" attention and exposure is better than none. Honestly, I bailed on Metallica after the "Black" album. Not that everything post the Black album was awful (some of the later stuff I like), they just went in a direction I didn't care for...mostly anyway. I don't think anybody out there hasn't thought about the "what if?" But, the way I look at it, we fans ended up with two legendary bands instead of one. Plus, for myself, I've stuck with Megadeth more over the years than Metallica. Also, regardless of what members made the lineup of Megadeth at whatever time, the band stayed "true" to what they are, and ALL were just top-shelf as far as individual musicianship. I feel lucky that I've been able to keep my face attached to my skull all this time despite their efforts to blow it off.

    • @kennethzimmermann7351
      @kennethzimmermann7351 3 года назад

      The rift was real, all you have to do is watch his segment in the Some Kind of Monster movie...he talked about how he had to deal with watching Metallica's meteoric rise and never feeling that what he was doing was good enough and that people judged him for his removal from the band despite Dave carving out a major piece of thrash history in his own right, I mean Megadeth is one of the Big 4. I don't think Lars or James held onto the rift nearly as hard as Dave did, but Dave had constant reminders of what he lost.

    • @drew65sep
      @drew65sep 3 года назад

      @@kennethzimmermann7351 oh, I wholeheartedly believe that it was absolutely "real," and affected Dave for quite a while. I didn't mean to make "light" of it at all. Being handed a bus ticket instead of a pen to sign with a record label was a pretty hardcore thing to do. I'm the same age as all of those guys and can testify that a lot of my own idiocy was simply being "young n dumb." Personally, I think that had a lot to do with the way things played out. But, that's just me looking from the outside in...I probably would've acted a LOT worse than Dave did. Great music, comedy, etc comes from a "dark" place a lot of people will say. It damn sure fueled Dave and the rest of Megadeth to become great in those early years. For myself, both band's material is just different enough that I don't compare em to one another. Hell, we music fans are arguably the most "fickle" on Earth...If we go down the "who's best" path, it just causes us to lose sleep from second-guessing ourselves lol (it does for me anyway). Thx for the interest and taking the time to respond. Stay well...

    • @kennethzimmermann7351
      @kennethzimmermann7351 3 года назад +1

      @@drew65sep I don't really try to compare the two, I'm able to appreciate them both for what they are. I do however ask and wonder "What would Metallica sound like today had Dave not been kicked out?" But I also ask the variation of "if Cliff never died?" Only because I like to wonder about those possibilities. Dave was most certainly fueled by his sudden forced departure, and probably was a source of a bunch of his addiction issues in his past too.
      I've seen Metallica 6 times live, seen Megadeth 3. Both are amazing live bands. Megadeth has helped so many young bands by taking them on the road with them...I remember Korn opening for them on support of their 1st album wondering who these bagpipe playing Adidas track suit wearing guys were. I'm just glad that they've grown to where they were able to do that week of shows and the Big 4 shows.

    First of all, great reaction video as always dudes.
    Secondly, just EXACTLY how awesome would it have been if Metallica had not only had Dave Mustain (their ORIGINAL Lead Guitarist and one of the ORIGINAL founding members of Metallica) been onstage, but also how much more awsome would it have been if Metallica had been able to have Ron 'McGooney' McGovney (the ORIGINAL Bassist for Metallica, and also one of the founding members) onstage together.
    Just how AWESOME would that have been to see and hear?
    But regardless of my nostalgia as a Metal-er since the mid-80's, again great reaction video as always dudes.
    Had a suggestion for another reaction video: Hell to the Heavens by Leaves Eyes (the Official Music Video version). The only reason why I suggest the Official Music Video version is because the video portrays visually what the lyrics are saying.

    I would like to see a solo album written by Dave and James, but with a new band backing them. Go back to their roots and write an album that sets a standard. When you put the guitar work of these two guys together-James on rhythm and Dave on solos, you have complete carnage that can't be stopped. I know it'll never happen, but that's what I think these two should do before they get too old.

    Look folks , 😂 Metallica and Dave Mustaine both have the public fooled in this concert .This reunion wasn't any tearful reunion or acceptance . Dave is still a bitter guy where this band is concerned . It's his Golden goose that got away . It was all business on both sides . It was a chance for Metallica to really show the fans why Dave was fired , and for Dave to show why Dave should have been kept . There's some really glaring instances that really show the scorn in Dave is still there , and the cringe worthy moments for Metallica were there on Dave's playing .
    Notice Dave wasn't looking at any band member with his hair over his face most of the time ? The instance where Kirk goes over to Dave in Dave's solo ? Dave wasn't really responding to Kirk , but just playing the licks to show his talent more .
    James tried to get some banter with Dave . Dave usually does a lot of talking on stage . Dave stayed basically silent the whole time in the limited songs he was given which is unusual . Dave was really non verbal , and not connected to Metallica members in any way in this concert . This was just another a gig to him .
    Dave could play the songs riff wise , but Metallica really made sure Dave's poor solo abilities were front and center on these songs to show the glaring contrast of him and Kirk's solo styles .
    Metallica made sure Dave got the more non popular songs of Kill Em All to play on . Dave was not going to be allowed to solo for Seek And Destroy or play any Ride The Lightning songs he contributed to either .
    Dave came in with dishonorable intentions on this concert . He used this concert as a stepping stone to try to cash in on some Super group with Mustaine , Ellefson , James and Lars to be formed after this concert . James and Lars didn't want anything to do with it especialy while Dave has been trashing Kirk's guitar playing and Lars' drumming for years before and after this concert .

    This was an awesome series of shows that included the return of Jason too. Unfortunately, Dave, not long after, decided to soil it in interviews because he's a malignant narcissist who is incapable of letting people enjoy something without telling them it's because he's amazing.

      @@opticFPV not saying he played a solo he wrote 30+ years ago perfect but it wasnt sloppy . You're used to Kirk whammett using a wah pedal that cleans up the sound and hides mistakes. This is just what a guitar actually sounds like . Your obviously used to listening to a cheater .

    Cant imagine if they didn't fire Dave Mustaine, what happened to Metallica. What music they would have created together. Absolute Greatness. Mustaine is a Bad Singer, but a Genius Composer and a Bad Ass Fine Guitarist. The first 5 Megadeth Albums are Milestones. Okay Metallicas too. But stuff like Load /St. Anger🤕😡🤮 sucks.Megadeth had their weak Risk and World needs a Hero but never sucked that way. Hammett isca good Guitarist but no Dave. Mustaine rules.
