I simply unplugged all the vacuum and drain hoses, removed the condensate trap and gave a hearty blow into on end. Amazing the black soot that came out… I ran some hot water thru it in sink to ensure flow and replaced all components. One tip I didn’t know I needed to prime the trap with water to create a flow again, otherwise the water will build back up.
Thank you that fixed my leaking of water all over the floor around the furnace. I had a clogged trap. I used my wet dry vac and sucked from the end that goes into my floor drain.
You provide great detail on how to "assemble" necessary parts to clean out the trap, much of which could be addressed by simply installing an EZ Trap 113B. Trap is transparent, comes with flexible brush, and has tightly-sealed caps which to access the trap (while preventing entry of unwanted air). I look forward to your input...
I am needing to winterize a high efficiency furnace in a mobile home that is without electrical power for 2 winter months. How do I get the furnace running with these traps frozen?
I don't have a trap on my 12 foot drain line. It's a rooftop combo furnace/AC unit with a slight drop of maybe 2 inches on the 12 feet of drain. I am in Southern Arizona with very little humidity. It drains just fine. Is it working because the unit doesn't have to remove humidity?
What is the name of that black case in your video? Is it that piece on my unit that has holes in it and my ac is leaking all over the place. It is a Day & Night 1996 model I believe.
It sounds like you should take the door off of the evap coil while the unit is off and test it by pouring water into the condensate pan to see if overflows or drains through the line, thanks!
At 5:30 in the video, you used a shop vac to suck out any contaminates in the furnace condensate trap. The trap does not appear to be vented, so it's closed? Wouldn't the high vacuum created by the shop vac pull on the vacuum & pressure switches in the furnace and possibly damage them? They are only open or close with lite pressure as in H2o, this may damage the switches if the internal trap is sealed, right?
The vac lines at the pressure switches are ALWAYS disconnected no matter which way you clean them i.e. suction or blowing. Never leave a line connected to a pressure switch because it don't take much to fry them. That's exactly what he did, he took them off. This man knows his stuff.
That was one of my questions too. I winterize my furnace by sucking the water out of the trap. when I start it up again it has a sucking sound and usually fills back up within a few minutes. If I leave the water in the trap with the furnace off in the winter, the water in the trap freezes and the furnace will run for about 10 minutes and shut off. I have to get a blow dryer and melt the water in the trap to get the furnace to run again.
Question for you. During the heating months hot furnace air blows out from my ac condensate flue pipe. I assume all the water in the AC condensate trap evaporates. Is this normal? Do I need to make a larger trap? Thanks
Yes that would be a great video demonstrating whats inside a boiler and how the components work. Love your videos craig. I have many videos saved for training purposes from you
You don’t need a trap on a push through coil. Air Handlers for example are pull through coils that have a negative pressure at and around the primary pan/pvc drain connection and that’s when you need a trap for proper drainage. All of this is true unless your local requires a trap regardless of this information.
Craig do you have any videos explaining these theory’s ? I’m a noob and heard this about push and pull and want to know how to tell the difference and when and when not to add a PTRAP. thanks you’ve been a great help.
A.c. service tech, why do you use electric tape ? Just want to know reason... also the air compressor blow out that has long nozle , will it work with nitrogen bottle or just for air compressor? I don't imagine you carry it in your work van do you?
I would rather carry my small compressor than a heavy nitrogen bottle. Also I can get free air compared to having to do the exchange at a supply house. I also don't like those small co2 cartridges. Yeah I carry the small air compressor in the truck. I also use it for other things like pressure testing gas lines and so on but you can just carry two blowout guns, one for air and one for nitrogen. The extension would fit in either. The electrical tape fills the gap inside the tubing so all the air is forced forward, not behind the extension and back out through the opening, thanks Daniel!

Our drain pipe outside our house been dripping non-stop recently. Normally it's just occasionally... Does this mean there may be a clog somewhere?
Do you have a video on unclogging the PVC exhaust pipe?
Thanks man. You saved me.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sooo that pvc going to my pump does not have a trap, and it does not have a cap on the top and there's air blowing out the top. Now I'm worried
I am needing to winterize a high efficiency furnace in a mobile home that is without electrical power for 2 winter months. How do I get the furnace running with these traps frozen?
I have a question how much tape do you wrap around the 3/8 cooper

Is it ok to drain 90% furnace outside if the drain is really short
today i seen water from the pressure switch , can yuo tell me what that means
Thanks
Very good information what kind of vaccume or pump can you use?
That was a craftsman wet/dry vacuum like this one, thanks- Craftsman 2.5 Gallon Shop Vac- amzn.to/2ROaR0j

For an air compressor. Which one is ideal ? 1, 2,3,30... gallon ? Used to blow drain , leak check gas pipes , clean blower motor wheel. ...thnx
Hey Daniel just a 1 or 2 gallon is more than adequate, thanks
Hi,
How about if turn the whole unit off?
good information ...
Thanks Pei Broker!
I just vacuumed my condensate pump out will this be sufficient enough for a clogged drain line that was leaking water on the floor?
It sounds like you should take the door off of the evap coil while the unit is off and test it by pouring water into the condensate pan to see if overflows or drains through the line, thanks!

Why do you have to add water back inside the trap after cleaning it with a vacuum? What would happen if you didn't add water?

Unfortunately, it is normal. You could close off this line during heating season or keep filling the trap with water, thanks!
@@acservicetechchannel thank you for the reply. 👍
Will you teach us about boilers?

Just wondering where can I find commercial refrigerators to scrap?
Depends on your area. Have you been working toward your 608 certification or found a testing center yet? thanks Jacob!
i don't want to go to school to do refrigeration , I just like taking apart refrigeration compressors just for fun
Actually it is usually a one or two night review and if you study for it, it shouldn't be too hard to pass. You need to make sure to do this, thanks
I know what your saying but i just like to take apart refrigeration compressors for fun
Use the costgard condensate drain seal and you’ll never have to clean a p trap again, home or commercial
What if the pan is completely empty? My furnace sounded like it kept trying to pump water?

Nothing. Mines been like that for years
Why is there dead bugs in my traps.
