  • How to unclog an AC drain pipe in 1 minute! 3 EASY ways to stop the AC drain pan dripping or leaking inside and under your furnace in the summer, when you run your air conditioner.
    *Drain pipe wire: amzn.to/3zyVMVc
    *Cable ties: amzn.to/3f2rSRk
    *Drill combo: amzn.to/3BMc4w0
    *Drill bits: amzn.to/3f1p0UV
Often an AC drain pan gets clogged when you do not change your air filter enough. Unclogging an AC coil condensation drain line is very easy to do- my favorite method is to drill a small hole in the drain pipe and feed a long zip tie or wire into the pipe to break through the blockage. Once the blockage is broken through you should hear a gush of water run down the drain pipe, hopefully eroding away the gunk that caused the clog in the first place.

I duct taped my shop-vac hose around the condensate line (creating a reasonable vacuum seal) and ran the vac for a good 20 secs... it sucked all kinds of water/debris out. Furnace no longer leaking. Thanks bud.

So we had this issue last summer. The furnace is behind our bathroom and I recently noticed the bathroom floor a little bit noisy and squeeky when I walk on it. Now that summer is here and the AC is on, water on the furnace again. I realized this had to be fixed ASAP. AC guy is too busy already to come fix it so is not showing up, so your video was great help. Thanks a lot!! You need to put a link to venmo you some donation from every person who feel grateful

Thank you! Our unit is plumbed differently and it was simple to access and use a tiny sink drain hair removal snake to unblock the pipe. The process will now be included in routine maintenance.

Hi Lifey Guy, I just came to say "thank you". before I watched your videos - I changed the condensate removal pump thinking the old one is dead. I waited for 2 days for it to arrive. have been sucking water from the basement, carpet, used absorbents, tried calling HVAC handyman, spoke to another friend, my son had headache with 88 F inside. All came to an end only after watching your video. Cleaned the drain line, no mold, just dirty deposits of salt, used auger to clean it, used your first method. $20 problem solved and I have the auger with me for future any clog removal work. THANK YOU!

You helped me! I ended up having to drill 3 holes as the clog was in a U shaped part of the pipe rather than right at the furnace, but I used the zip tie thru the little holes I drilled in all 3 places (before the beginning of the u, at the end of the u, and at the spot by the furnace) and it unclogged and is draining properly! Thanks so much

Lifey Guy, just wanted to let you know that I cleared my condensate line and water was finally allowed to drain outside the house, instead of down the furnace and across my garage floor. I have no curved pipe/trap right after the tray, so I used your method (drilled a hole at the top of the pipe to attempt to clear the line from there), but then water started to pulsate out of the hole. I tried compressed air down the hole for 10-20 seconds, but then realized that the clog was downline, not up towards to tray (which is where all the air was escaping to). Having a hole there helped me determine that I needed to use suction at the end of the drain line. So, I put a carboard tube and electrical tape adapter on my shop vac nozzle, and with a nice fit at the end of the condensate line (outside), ran the vacuum for about 10 seconds twice and each time I heard bits and pieces and water scrambling down the shop vac hose. That did it, system back to normal - THANK YOU for the visuals and ideas!

My house has the furnace in an attic and I don’t see any filter on it. I change the filter on the vent once a month. We had water leaking in the garage from the overflow. I tried the vacuum and sucked out all of the water from the pan. The ac has been working the whole time though, which I found odd. I saw it dripping from one area. After the vacuum and shoving the dishwasher snake it isn’t leaking anymore but will check it in the morning. Thank you! It’s supposed to be in the mid 90s this weekend!

Omg! I'm not the only one with a 5 gallon bucket to catch the AC coil condensation! I'm not alone!! 😂 Although I have an old garden hose hooked to mine. Really helps to cut down on the water building up by cleaning the fins on the AC unit every year before running it. Very carefully! Those fins are VERY easy to damage. Even by light water spraying onto it. Go easy, at an angle. I use water and dish soap on the fins, as I've heard that the foaming cleaner can actually corrode the fragile fins. They also sell fin straightener devices if you do bend them.
I cut down from having to empty the bucket every few hours to only having to empty it once a day or every two days after cleaning the fins inside and out. Really helps if you have a unit where you can take the motor out and set it to the side - without ripping the wiring out. And clean from the inside first. Unclog all the drain holes in the base of the unit, spray the fins gently from the inside to loosen most of the dust and hair, then spray downward on the outside. Helps cut down on electric usage too!

I have a brand new house, new AC/Furnace and the one in the attic is leaking water onto the AC filter daily. I am not sure if it is coming off the copper pipe that has a black insulation on it or if it is leaking from somewhere else inside the Furnace. When we bought the house we were in before this one, we had the same type issue when we moved in brand new and they had forgotten to put some type of valve on the system outside and the pipes would sweat so much it would get on the ceiling in our bedroom below the attic. I just want to make sure they fix what the issue is? Thanks for any advice. By the way I change my ac filters every month even though they are not dirty.

I didn't finish watching to the end, got up, got my drill, got long cable ties and went down to the basement, drilled three holes, one of them helped me to unclog the drain but smart asses- mechanics, when they installed the unit, they put a p- trap on the drain, probably creating a visit possibility.
Otherwise, thank you for the video!

Hi! My ac condensator is dripping water only the half bottom of it. Ac still working perfectly, the problem is that if I leave it running for a long time the condensator freezes up and builds up ice and then blocks the air from coming out of the vents... My ac is on a Condominium where cooling towers are used. What can I do to stop the leaking? Thanks in advance!

If you have 90% efficiency furnace (90% of the energy used heats the home the other 10% is exhausted out of the house). the evaporator coil which is what’s leaking here works with your air conditioner and removes heat from the house. Drain from the coil tees into the drain for the furnace. 80% efficiency furnaces don’t condensate but rather exhaust much hotter and that’s why they require metal flu pipe. Most water heaters have flu pipe as well
