Here is my drum cover of War Pigs by the mighty Black Sabbath. Probably my favourite band of all time!
Bill Ward is the reason I started playing drums and he is my biggest influence when it comes to playing the drums. This is the first drum cover that I've recorded and mixed myself and for me learning how to mix and record is one of the positive things that has happened throughout this pandemic. Anyway, I hope you enjoy my drum cover of War Pigs.
Also, I was honoured to be asked to play War Pigs on a Black Sabbath tribute album 'Sabbatonero' alongside James Murphy & James Rivera ... This album also features other amazing musicians - Marty Friedman, Snowy Shaw, The Demolition man, Mantas, Rasmus Bom Anderson and many many more! This album will be releasedd very soon, so keep an eye out for this one!

When this album first came out, us young teen musicians would sit in our bedrooms trying to figure out the licks by these pioneering bands, and it was a tedious, agonizing although fulfilling endeavor. There wasn't much video of those bands we loved, and we didn't have you Tube so we had to go by what we heard. Now it's great to see the visual aspect of how it was done, after all those years, great job!

I have my dad's original LP from 1970 and vinyl always sounds great, but the 2012 remaster really brought the track to life.

Nice job keeping Ward's jazz influences in there with a solid swing and keeping his frenetic dance around the pocket drum fills with mixed dynamics. That shit aint easy to pull off without either sounding too heavy or too rushed and or mono dynamic. Great cover for drummer who is very diffcult to nail down and still sound right.

That was some great drumming. I’d like to see someone cover the drums from Sabbath’s live performance in Paris in 1970. Love watching Bill Ward smash his drums. The energy was awesome.

Absolutely man! Nobody and I mean nobody can play like Bill Ward back in those days. Symptom Of The Universe perfect example ... so many drummers have played that song and to me it never sounds right without the way Bill plays it and there are alot of songs like that. Just watch the Paris gig they did. His drumming is phenomenal!

Wow, thank you for compliment :) I used to watch everything did on the drums really closely and when he played War pigs he wouldn't just leave the hi hat closed when doing the marching hats... he'd stamp it with his foot and hit it when it was pretty much closed and it gives a real intense kinda atmosphere to the song and the way it's played. I think it makes a big difference
It’s those details which are EVERYTHING and you have them. Like Charlie Watts etc; they played with soul and feel. I much prefer listening to people who ‘get’ that even if they’re as sloppy as hell. You clearly don’t come under the ‘sloppy as hell’ banner!!! And you don’t stint on your right foot either. No stiffness ANYWHERE.
Superlative. You could have turned up at California Jam and given Bill a time out for a couple of tracks 😎

On my opinion War Pigs is the best drumming song in the world. A masterpiece of Black Sabbath. The best solo guitar for me is Mr. Crowley by Randy Roads.
