Im all for traditions and everything but this year my family and I had a very lowkey christmas and honestly, it was quite enjoyable. I think it goes to show, you dont need to be extravagent in order to enjoy a holiday!!

I really like your point of view, Here in Mexico the Holidays are extra wasteful, with lots of fireworks, pollution, bad music...And quite frankly, most people don't even enjoy it, is just a tradition that needs to happen because it has to.

We totally do this! Well me drinking but not the kids lol. My home caught on fire about 6 years ago. Nothing could be worse as a parent then your kids watching their things go up in flames. But me being a single mom we never had huge Christmas holidays. My boys said when we were cleaning and gutting the house that from that moment on they wanted to have experiences for Christmas. So we go eat a fancy dinner and go to Biltmore to see the lights. We just try to make memories every year and spend time together!

This felt so refreshing to watch since I can totally relate. I'm an only child and while I have parents and 3 to 4 close family members to celebrate Christmas and New Years with, I often feel isolated. Especially because it's a crowd where I have to hold up a certain act and participate in activities I get bored of now that I'm 21 (such as gift giving, taking cheesy pictures with picky family members, doing all the cooking and cleaning while the men of the family sit back and do nothing etc). It feels physically nice to have company but I feel mentally isolated not being able to be truly myself in front of family groups. Thanks for this video and here's to a great 2021 :)

I'm onboard! I no longer participate in random exchanging of gifts. I only do it with a couple of rlly close friends. Family, I don't even ask for gifts. The ones I give away, I no longer wrap! Waste of money, time and energy. They go straight to the trash anyway too so why do it? Celebrating the holidays as an adult is totally a new experience and much more meaningful.

I get so much joy and happiness from decorating and giving gifts. I’m far from a minimalist but I don’t over consume except at Christmas time. I leaned into it even more because of all that happened this year.

I think the message of this is to create memories, whatever that is to you. For families that do exchange gifts, they often fill the rest of the day with memory filled things similar to those who don't exchange gifts. (Gift giving is like an hour of the day, then its just the same as what you two did lol)

I love the holidays because usually my family does big gatherings (not like a traditional Christmas or anything bc as you said, 2nd gen Canadian here) and usually “gifts” each other an experience. Like a “let’s all go skiing tomorrow” kinda thing

I love Christmas for the fact that I get to sleep in. Some years I am doing something with others and some years it is just myself. One time I was at a gay club for Christmas eve and someone bought everyone a shot - there were around 100 guys there. It was one of the nicest gestures that one day I hope to do myself.
