Excerpt #1
Just as Nick rounded a small rise in the slope of the gulch, a large brown mass appeared just a short distance away. At first glance, it appeared to be a stump from a long dead tree, but then it moved. Right before Nick’s eyes, the stump grew a large head, revealing the distinct profile of a grizzly bear. Its dish-shaped face and huge hump of muscle on its shoulders proved to be the most ominous signs of the one animal Nick did not want to run into during his hunt.
As soon as the bear lifted its head, it looked right at Nick. The bear immediately began charging toward the hunter. Nick's heart sank as he knew this was no bluff charge. He could see a large mound of sticks and dirt scraped up behind the bear as it bore down on him. He knew he had to act quickly to keep himself from harm, and possibly save his own life.
Nick yelled at the bear and quickly raised his hunting rifle to his shoulder. He prepared for the worst and clicked off the safety. The bear was closing on him from less than fifty yards, and he didn’t have a lot of time to react. As he watched the bear flowing toward him, he could see its fur bounce with each bound and muscles ripple as they absorbed the energy of each stride. Its head was high and steady as its eyes fixed on Nick’s face.
Excerpt #2
As Tom and Don stalked their way along the edge of the meadow, they kept a wary eye out for grizzly bear sign. Tracks are far too common in this area, so seeing them isn’t necessarily proof of a grizzly being in the immediate area. Given the bear's tendency to travel many miles in a given day, once you see a track, even if it is fresh, it isn’t always correct to assume the grizzly is still nearby. Other forms of evidence of grizzly bear activity like seeing stumps torn apart or anthills that have been dug up, along with grizzly bear tracks nearby are a harbinger that grizzlies regularly seek food in the area. When they find a reliable location for food, grizzlies are known to frequently return on a regular pattern in search of food.
As the archery hunters paralleled the treeline, they unknowingly walked within several yards of a hungry and very territorial sow grizzly bear, who took defending her cubs from any perceived threat very seriously. Don was armed with a 10mm semi-automatic pistol and Tom carried a primed can of bear spray for protection.
As the hunters encroached on the sow's hiding spot, which was a thick stand of low-growing jackpines, she sprang upon the men in a lightning-quick ambush. The sow emerged from cover only a few yards from the hunters and quickly closed the short distance in what seemed like an instant.
Even though both men were completely surprised by the ambush, the knowledge of being in grizzly territory had them mentally prepared to defend themselves. Don immediately reached his hand toward his pistol, while Tom wrapped his hands around his bear spray canister.
Excerpt #3
While Tom stood next to the strange object, it began to move a bit. He watched as a huge grizzly bear's head lifted from the far side of the object. As the grizzly’s eyes met Tom’s, he knew he had made the biggest mistake of his life. The only thing that went through his mind was what he should do next. He knew he couldn’t run, as even the largest and most clumsy grizzly bear would run the fastest of men down in only a few strides. Fighting it was off the table, as this thing was huge, and Tom was on the small side. He knew he would stand no chance in a physical battle with it. Climbing a tree sounded like a great option, but he was in a meadow. The only trees around him were far apart and too small to provide protection. That left only one option. Tom knew he would have to play dead if the bear decided to attack him.
As the grizzly spun toward Tom, he heard the indelible thumps of its paws on the ground as it began thundering toward him. He could hear the brush that separated them snapping and parting as the angry sow barreled through it. Tom scrambled toward some trees and hid behind them to screen the sow’s view of him.
The reality of his situation soon set in. He knew he couldn’t run or hide from one of the most powerful predators in the world. In a deliberate attempt to convey that he was no threat to the sow, nor her cub, Tom collapsed into the fetal position, right behind the tree he was hiding behind.
Tom placed his arms near his chest and wrapped his hands around his neck and head as best he could. He knew that once he felt the powerful bite from her jaws, this grizzly wouldn’t stop venting her anger on him. He braced for the impact, pain, and damage that she would inflict upon him. - Животные
‘Idiots pull bear cubs from trees for selfies; investigation underway'. Just came across my feed. Took place in NC. Our fearless leader needs to talk about this in the next video!!
holy crap!
@@rfotus9207 Have you seen the coverage yet? Some people will just never get it!!
I seen that video as well today. One of the Cubs was dropped by a lady and had to be taken in for care at a facility.
@@ndufcfan There's some articles out there too.
People are idiots!
I think the first story, Nick, is one of the most intelligent people I've heard about on this channel. He couldn't have avoided the encounter and I'm 100% certain he would have died if he didn't shoot the Grizzly. He did exactly what he should have done and defended his life. There's no way to know the intentions of a charging Grizzly, but one things for certain, he isn't running toward you to welcome you to Montana 😂.
Pa in the house, great storytelling as usual Addicus. Sorry I missed the livestream again. 👋
I heard a young grizzly was found taking cow calves near Ten Sleep, Wyoming I think, which is many miles south of where they're usually found. 😮 I'd say there's more than the management area can handle. Not saying they weren't here first, but you have to balance human needs with animal needs and a bear in human areas or areas that cannot support the needs of the bears is a recipe for human/bear interactions which aren't good.
I wouldn't want to be the person deciding which bears live and which ones have to be put down to avoid deadly problems with humans 😔
Hey Addicus soooo ready!!! Can't wait for the 26 mins marathon!!! Rooooarrrrrrrrr 🐻!!!! Greetings from Griffith Indiana and Greetings from Dawn to in Michigan 💕💕
Hey Girl!! Can you believe that we have to wait until 8? ARGH!!
@@theresahaddad107 do you think it would help if I schedule the marathons for Saturday instead? Or just earlier on Friday? I am sorry I missed the livechat :(
@@scarybearattacks Good Morning my friend! Saturday marathons at the 8:30 p.m. timeslot would be a great option. It would be a great way to wind down the work week. Doing a Saturday marathon could be psych your subs like popcorn-and-a-movie does for some (Date night w/ Addicus)! Additionally, the subs would know exactly when it's going to happen, and prepare for the adventure! What you present to us w/ each show is not an easy task. The research time that you put into your vids is almost a full-time job in itself. With that being said, don't overwhelm yourself, keep it fun for yourself (and us), and know that we all appreciate the time and energy that you put forth.
@@scarybearattacks No problem about missing the chat. I was there in the beginnning but signed off when the vid started. It looks like everyone 'survived' (see what I did there?). I've learned soooo much from watching your program. As a former CO skier (knees & hips finally gave out), the last thing on my mind was bears. I should have known better, as one of the double-diamond runs was called 'Bear Claw'. Talk about being young and naive........
Grrrrrrrrrrrr 🐻!!! I just about had my comment done + I got cut off!!! I 💕 the Saturday marathons purrfect 😻 How dare you miss the live chat!!! Just kidding!!! 😂😂😂 Enjoyed the episodes yesterday very beary 🐻 interesting and storytelling too!!! Take care of yourself my very best buddy Rooooarrrrrrrrr!!!!!!🐻😊❤️@@scarybearattacks

In the first story about Nick, the hunter, I believe if he had enough time to fire a couple of warning shots before the bear got close enough to him the warning shots may have deterred the charge of the bear, but if not, then Nick did the right thing in order to save his life…
I enjoy your stories

👋 Hello from NE Georgia/Lake Lanier!
Ontario 🇨🇦
My husband & I spent a summer I the late 9990s at a campground at the foot of Sawtell mountain in Island Park. We spent our time between bike-riding between there & West Yellowstone and visiting the Park itself. In all that time we never encountered any evidence of any bears; I can only gather that our constant talking loudly gave plenty warning of our presence to any predators sharing our space. Or perhaps there wasn't quite the numbers of them present in those days. The only thing I saw was a moose quite close to the single track who did not alert on me as I pushed my bike up the trail. My husband missed it entirely as he was riding his bike up the hill.
What does the DNR do with bear meat "harvested" when hunting fans of Scary Bear Attacks venture out with both hi-cal firearms &/or bear spray, cause a big ruckus, & then still manage to get their asses handed to them by a furious grizzly bear -- cub or no cubs? & then all unapologetic culprits automatically get put down? IDK, SBA... I enjoyed eating bear steaks & BBQ bear burgers many years ago & imagine that any food shelves in that wild area (along w/ fresh Idaho potatoes) might in fact be over the moon w/such a delicious contribution. What's the old saying? "If you can't beat 'em, eat 'em"? Maybe we have much in common with bears after all...

A beautiful country indeed. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit when I was younger 😊

Why follow the bear. Why put yourself and your kids lives in jeopardy. . Oh wait, you were bored. That's reckless behavior IMHO
I'm certain he and his sons followed very cautiously and very much aware of how far ahead they could see. I'm sure you're not suggesting Addicus is a fool, when he tells bear attack stories all the time. 😂 It's the bears you aren't seeing or following who surprise you in most cases.
Hunters enjoy an age old tradition of securing your own, non processed meat to feed their families. And most of the ones I know aren't foolish at all. Although I'm sure some are, most I've ever known are ethical and cautious. Having any kind of accident in the woods, miles from other humans is best avoided by prevention. Have a nice weekend 😊

New Zealand we don't have to worry about bears all big cats when hunting for meat
There's to many places to hunt that doesn't have bears if people think they will be okay going into bear country then they put their lives in their own hands and bears should not be put down for killing people they invade their home
NY, go figure...not exactly the brightest of us...

Nick had no choice but to kill that grizzly. It didn't want Nick there, was probably hungry. But since humans have ruined the salmon run, what do you expect them to eat. Thank you 💛 ATTICUS. I DON'T agree with bow hunting. Too many things can go wrong and the animal will suffer. Or the hunter will be attacked. Thanks again ATTICUS for another great SBA episode 👍!!!

At what point do we to allow hunting bears in some areay? Fish and game should be able to tell us.
I think the bear would have attacked regardless of whether or not he was defending his food. Bear Spray would not have helped. If Nick had not shot the bear he likely would have been killed.
