Welcome back to Scary Bear Attacks! Today’s episode takes us to the woods of Alberta, Canada, to a place aptly nicknamed Crying Canyon. It is located on the eastern slope of the Canadian Rockies and the alpine zone is guarded by granite peaks reaching almost nine thousand feet in elevation. Beneath the granite peaks are thick forests of pine, fir, and spruce trees growing so close together that they look like a beautiful green carpet when you look across the valleys. There seem to be more white-tailed deer here than humans in nearby Calgary and moose are plentiful too. If you look closely toward the mountain tops you might see mountain goats as well as Canadian Bighorn Sheep as they perform their gravity-defying ballet along the cliffs. There are cougar, black bears, and wolves here, but the grizzly bears present the most danger of all.
Thirty-two-year-old Jeremy Evans was raised in Calgary which is only a stone's throw away. He was a meat packer and an avid outdoorsman. He had been hunting and fishing nearly his entire life and spent about two months of each year in the mountains pursuing his passion. He most enjoyed bowhunting but this year he hoped to bag a big ole ram, and that is best done with a hunting rifle.
Jeremy was married to the love of his life, Joyce and they had recently welcomed their first child into their family. She was his first girlfriend and he was her first boyfriend. They had been with each other ever since they began dating in high school and were custom-made for each other. Joyce was a bonified marine biologist and well-educated. She was a city girl, mostly, and Jeremy, her perfect compliment by contrast. Joyce was still on maternity leave but passed her time while volunteering at a local non-profit when she wasn’t busy taking care of the baby and Jeremy.
Jeremy had planned on a dream sheep hunt for this fall and had put the time into researching locations and strategies to be successful. His meticulous planning for his hunts bordered on obsession, but his wife humored and supported him. Jeremy’s sheep hunt was coming up soon, and he had planned a quick scouting trip to find out just how much success awaited him in those dark forests and granite peaks.
At three AM on August seventeenth of twenty seventeen, Jeremy hopped into his pickup truck and pulled out of his driveway. He had carefully loaded his backpack and all the supplies he would need for what he planned to be a three-day back-country scouting trip for a trophy ram. Hiking into where he wanted to go would take any ordinary hunter a few days, so Jeremy sped this process up a bit by riding his mountain bike, which he placed in the bed of his truck.
Jeremy knew from prior seasons that day hunters would hit the areas nearest the roads early in the morning and that pressure would drive the sheep back to where he planned to hunt. He had planned to set up base camp about 8 miles back up the trail, hoping that the headstart on the day hunters would bring him success in his ram hunt.
After driving for three hours to the trailhead, Jeremy slipped his backpack over his shoulders and pedaled up the hill. The foliage blurred by as the excitement of fulfilling the plans and goals he had been working on started to take shape. His legs churned like pistons driving him up and down each slope of the trail.
Jeremy was so familiar with this area that he knew where the usuals would camp. He knew about 4 miles into his journey he would pass a sheepherders tent with an older gentleman sipping coffee out front, but this time the old man was missing.
Jeremy energetically zipped past a couple of men, possibly hikers, but maybe hunters doing some scouting as well. They were on foot and were taken aback a bit by seeing someone riding a mountain bike in this area. They stared at him as he passed but simply focused on finding the turn in the trail leading him to the more remote part of the canyon.
This part of the canyon is so steep and rugged that few people make it back this far. That is part of what drew Jeremy here. The ruggedness and solitude were exactly what he wanted.
He had brought along his binoculars in his backpack, as well as his bear spray and high-powered hunting rifle. He carefully navigated the crumbling slopes of a few drainages and emerged to the open face of the mountain. The trees stopped suddenly creating a panoramic view of the hillside.
Jeremy picked his way slowly around the hill, glassing for sheep as he went. It wasn’t long before his hard work paid off as a small herd of sheep appeared on the hillside opposite of him.
Jeremy leaned up on his handlebars and used them as a steady rest to get a good look at the herd.
This has to be one of the gnarliest survival stories I’ve ever heard, this man is a living legend & deserves his own movie! Knowing this was a sow & she obviously didn’t posses testicles, can anyone confirm what exactly he was grabbing onto & how that maneuver was obviously so effective!? Whatever he did sounds like it hurt far more than a couple smashed acorns, but most of all was effective twice somehow!?!?
I don't know, but I'm guessing that it was probably a teat, or even her vulva.
She identified as a Sow, Bravely rejecting the "Boar" label assigned by traditional Bruin society. IT'S MA'AM!!
@@Adam-kf6lr 🤣 welcome to the age of TikTok-idiocracy & everyone having overly sensitive teets!
mammory gland yes. she's nursing Cubs on the hour daily. when he grabbed squeezed it was painful from nursing young cubs.
Sow testicles. My worst nightmare.
Jeremy is just incredible. He fought a Grizzly one on one, and won. Let that sink in. This, is a true man. Much respect and joy that he made it.
I'm 62 and grew up in the Smokies. The "old folks" always said that if a bear (black bear) attacks you, jam your hand as far as possible down it's throat, grabbing it's tongue because (black) bears don't like being choked (who would?!) I always laughed at that "old granny's tale" before listening to this video. So glad he lived.❤
If snatched by an alligator, reach in and break the seal at the back of the throat. They breathe air just like we do, and would drown if they didn't release you. Otherwise they'll have no exploitable weakness underwater.
Mostly they avoid humans, but if I get grabbed, I'm taking him with me!
I have an episode coming up that is along those story lines. It is AMAZING!
You are one strong guy , so glad you had the strength to survive !
If you stuck your hand in their mouth won't they just bite it off??
@@scarybearattacks would you allow the same comments to be made towards a J'ish person? .no. You wouldn't.
He was 250 lbs and the bear handled him like he was nothing. I was reading about a guy who was 6'8" and 320 that was attacked by a bear. He had played on the offensive line in college. He braced himself like he was on the line as the bear came at him. He said it put him on his ass like he was a child. The enormous strength of these animals is indescribable.
No idea how this was possible. 11 miles, virtually blinded, bleeding, missing anatomy, traumatized and broken but managed to drink, write, walk and drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not know what Jeremy is made out of but he must have something that many of us do not. Good Lord he is incredible!!!!!!!!!! All the best to him and his family.👊👏👏🙏
And he wants to do a little fishing while waiting for the helicopter. Unbelievable human being.
In the midst of any attack, you can find it in yourself to get out of the the bad situation.
That is one tough son of a gun walks 14 miles with no vision and a bum leg bleeding out. That's a true mountain man right there
I saw an interview of Jeremy. The song baby shark made me realize this was the guy. Amazing story. Your storytelling is always so entertaining.
I've seen several videos about this guy..what he looked like after the attack.. interviews with him..I know adrenaline can help you a part of the way to survival..but I must say, the fact that this guy is still alive and doing well is a testament to his determination, willpower and sheer thoughness..wow
Large amounts of adrenaline seem to act as a form of painkiller. I've read so many stories of soldiers and police officers getting wounded but were so charged with adrenaline they didn't know they were hurt. After it tapers off then the pain emerges. I've got enough chronic pain from my younger days, don't want any more piled on.
It’s also a testament to the surgeons whose expertise allowed him to be put back together. It’s incredible that he was out of hospital so quickly.
I learned all kinds of survival skills and my body was like nails in the Army. I had a lot of drive and determination, I could push myself past where most people could tolerate but even I wonder even in my prime, if I could pull off what Jeremy did with this attack. I believe I could probably fight off the bear, maybe, but that journey back to his car, and the fact he tried to fish while waiting for rescue is on another level from even what I was trained for. This guy was driven by a higher power or something.
shock

I thought the same thing, I don't think even in my fittest, young days I could hike 11 miles out in that condition, having just experienced that. This man has an iron will and nerves of steel. I don't know if he's a military man but I believe this the reason behind all of the grueling entry requirements and tests get into special forces is to find men with the kind of makeup this Jeremy Evans has. He would be an elite soldier.
It's an unbelievable story. Amazing that he survived!
This was another wow story. For that man to go through this, he surely was a fighter. That's probally what saved him. He surely is an inspiration to everyone that something unimaginable has happened to them. God bless this man and his family. 🐻

I just CAN NOT UNDERSTAND how someone goes into bear country without having a gun ready to go at an instant.

Why would the sow have testicles???
Well it sure wasn't a hermaferdite, could have been pa, pa bear. I'd would like to think a female would have given up by then, but can't be sure with 20 th century genes from these beasts!
I’ve met a few sows with testicles. Especially in Thailand.
And protecting cubs ? They usually kill the cubs in order to mate with sow
Maybe she identified as a Boar that day.
mama didnt attack him ??? There was a male bear watching mama and her cub ?
That was a truly harrowing story. I’m convinced that Jeremy might be the toughest man who’s ever lived.
Tell that to war veterans who have lost limbs but survived. Their horrible wounds were not a result of carelessness.

Geez! Horrific! Thank you for sharing Jeremys' story. He must be an extremely strong man, both physically and mentally.
Amazing after only 2 days out of the hospital he returned to the scene. Must have helped him to do so.
I don't know if sow couldn't find her cub or what. (Sows don't have testicles. What was Jeremy grabbing onto?) I don't know that I would have thought to put my hand in the mouth of a bear to a grab the tongue-I think not.
Jeremy must have been in absolutely perfect physical shape & condition. (I say this due to you pointing out his size & weight while wrapped around the tree. Yet the bear pulled him out with such force he was thrown 6 feet.)
I don't actually like "baby shark" but appreciate that it made Jeremy think of his daughter & want to live. (I have 10 grandchildren -5 months to 18 years-& have heard "baby shark" for several years in my defense of not liking it, anymore.)
Jeremy was positive the bear that attacked him was a sow and mother to the cub he saw running, not a boar chasing a cub as prey? It was only seconds after seeing the cub that he was attacked. Attack happened very quickly. (I am trying to understand what Jeremy was squeezing as he thought it was testicles.)
I wouldn't dare look at pictures on your patreon link-actually closed my eyes and even gasped while you described in vivid detail what happened to Jeremy.
I rather expect this will flash through my thoughts for several days. Jeremy is a remarkable and exceptional man.
This is truly a story of survival but it amazes me how an experienced back country woodsman would have his bear spray at the bottom of his backpack

They were a fake pair the bear was wearing while it going through the transitioning phase before surgery.
I spent many years on Kodiak Island and in Alaska's Brooks Range guiding big game hunters. I have a lot of respect for brown and grizzly bear and I assure you I've had my close calls. People seem to think "it can't happen to me". I have read so many accounts where people are attacked and their bear spray is in their pack. When I go into the wilderness I certainly don't want to kill a grizzly sow with cubs but I'm not going to let one eat me ! I keep my bear spray and my rifle handy, most times you will only have seconds to react. My best advice to anyone spending time in bear country, buy a PLB or sat-phone. Many things can and will happen, heart attack, broken ankle or bear attack, you name it.
These pp are insaneee going into the woods without a side arm and bear spray and buck knife on leg chest and hip. Absolutely the first thing you should do when your boots hit the ground

Easy for us to say after listening to this video. Less easy for us to practice after a couple hundred times in the wild without so much as the faintest brush with a bear. I’ve had two encounters with grizzly bears and too many black bear encounters to remember. There was no bear spray in those times. And even though there is bear spray now days. I still haven’t gone back into grizzly country. One of the numerous black bears was with a big sow with cubs. I was harvesting firewood from out of the woods. She seemed to take issue with my chainsaw. I had a rifle but it wasn’t really very near to me. And I wouldn’t have wanted to go there anyway. So I fired up the saw and told her that this would not end well for anyone including her. Or something to that effect. And she only bluffed a charge a few times. But I’ve also had to give many black bears a good loud and stern “HEY BEAR “ which has worked every time. But a few times the same bear would come back and force another HEY BEAR. To the best of my knowledge HEY BEAR doesn’t work with grizzly’s. I think about buying some bear spray and going back into the Bob Marshal wilderness. I know that I should face the fear of another grizzly encounter. Maybe a good HEY BEAR would do the trick if I had a encounter. I live in black bear county but I use to visit grizzly county at least once a year. Or close to that. I would attach little bells to my boots. And whistle a lot. And yell HEY BEAR a bunch. But the last grizzly encounter I had really scared the crap out of me. Jeremy is very brave to go straight back out into Grizzly territory.
This was like the Scary bear attacks summer blockbuster. Now I'm wondering what it was he was squeezing since a sow grizzly doesn't have testicles.

Her nursing teats. Apparently squeezing them makes it so painful the bear vomits and shits itself while squealing like a pig. Knowledge is power, eh? 😌
is this mead strong or did you say he grabs the sows testicles i thought females had vaginas im confused or was it a female or male bear that attacked him please let me know anyone
I saw the after surgery pictures and thought your description of the attack must have been a bit of an exaggeration. Then I saw the selfie Jeremy took right after the attack and nope, it was as horrific as you described. It is amazing they managed to put his face back together as well as they did.
@TheSlimeyLimey, Love your username! LOL Thank you for checking it out. The doctors/surgeons performed amazingly!
The part where he tried to kill himself but the rifle fired only after his failed attempt. Didn’t the same thing happen to Walter White in Breaking Bad?
This guy is a true survivor. I’m so glad he survived.
That man is Rambo x10
What a brutal and Savage attack. Poor Guy
Brutal attack,,, yes . His fault. He went alone, didn’t make noise and his spray was in his pack. Reckless behaviour and dead bear(s).
This is Jeremy's fault unfortunatly.
NEVER EVER enter the woods (where you can carry a gun) with it UNLOADED.
NEVER EVER PUT YOUR BEAR SPRAY IN A PLACE WHERE IT CANNOT EASILY BE REACHED.
The gun should be on a sling and you should also carry a 10mm semiauto pistol with a shorter barrel (in case you find yourself on the ground and need to place a close shot)
That being said.
This man is a fighter and his story is amazing..
Brave man for sure...
Best bear survival story I've heard, except the part about heading back out to the scene of the encounter. Amazing ❤
Jeremy is a bit much to take isn't he?
@@schrisdellopoulos9244 Not really. He's a stone cold stud. He had everything he needed - just not in his hands. I would bet money that he had lethal force at hand when he returned. Going back to the scene is a coping mechanism.
Excellent, found myself rooting for him as he made it back to his truck
This scary asf dude 250 fit muscular and ragdolled that man bears are terrifying
And it was a Sow who shook him around like a ragdoll. Imagine a Male grizzly..
@@Wendy-bm3fli think if it was a male he wouldnt be here today glad he made it
I had a black bear mama with two cubs poke my foot through my tent at 3 in the morning. I was terrified. I stayed still and quiet and they wondered off. Scared me to death. I can’t imagine the same with a brown!!!
He is one tough hunter! Amazing story!! I squirmed all the while envisioning what the bear was doing to him. A takeaway is have your bear spray attached to your belt and your firearm loaded and handy. Chilling story. I wish him and family all the best. Stay safe.
Jeremy has to be a very strong man, not only to go through that attack and survive but then to walk eleven miles over rough ground and mountains to get help. I stand amazed at anyone who survives a Grizzly attack.
and he didn't have a knife either
When experienced hunters are looking at you puzzled, stop ✋ and turn around. 🐻
Do you think they knew about the mother bear up there?
@@ebeneezerscrooge2942 I don't know that but I do believe that there is a feeling in the air when a bear is around. At least, the times that I've been stalked, there was a creepy feeling. Like being watched. Whenever I hike and feel that, I turn around
@@pheona1164 good advice. I have nightmares of being eaten alive. Bears are in my dreams.
Praise God he made it home to his family.
I'm thankful to live in a country where there are no bears. This video is unimaginably scary, at least to me!
Where do you live, if you don't mind me asking. I live in central Idaho, USA and there are many predators all around me. I just keep an eye out and they don't bother me, except that one time....
@@scarybearattacks I live in Ireland. We're one of the very few countries that don't have bears (except in zoos), thank God! I would be scared witless if I thought there was a wild bear around. I suppose people living in bear country know what precautions to take though.
GOD BLESS THIS MAN. That's really all I can say except for this is an amazing, inspirational story of survival.
I was hiking in Slovakian mountains up north four weeks ago and I was in the middle of forest and I suddenly remembered this youtube channel.. So I googled if there are bears and there are.. a lot.. I'm glad that I'm back home and didn't become statistic.. there could have been another episode about a dude, who got eaten by bear :(
The brown bears there are smaller than ours and much lower in number. Doesn't mean they won't kill you though!
Smart man, if dangerous animal in forest, don’t go in forest, simple
I’m Late to hear this one SBA but definitely worth waiting for! The detailed cover of this is attack described by you made it seem the 1st time!!!!! Excellent coverage learned so many more details! IMO This bear was bent on killing, and Jeremy was more bent on living TRULY blessed to have survived and one tough man to not only live through the attack but walk that far out and then to survive his surgeries and healing, I’m TRULY amazed!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for your hard work to keep bringing this content! Stay safe everyone! Learn from others mistakes, keeping bear spray at the ready, don’t go alone, take gps with emergency contact for quick response for emergency help and last but not least when out in the wilderness HAVE YOUR GUN LOADED and accessible!!!!!!
@mello3214 calm down and quit yelling.
Good advice for everyone, no matter how experienced you are...
@@schrisdellopoulos9244 What a baby!
@@georgebignell8351 That" mystery sensitive anatomy" on a sow was not testicles!Lol!
I am an Aussie and love listening to these bear attack story’s ! Sorry for the people who got hurt !
Oh my what a devastating story, no words. God bless him for fighting for his life
Great story telling. When you were describing the attack, I was clenching my teeth and squirming. Jeremy is a certified badass and this title was definitely not clickbait.
God was on his side, but all along trying to get people to stop 🛑😞❌ being stupid. He wasn't lucky he was blessed by all means. If you only have seconds then shoot right away knowing you only have seconds. Your gun 🔫🗡️🔫🗡️ should always be in ready mode, and start shooting. Why just stand there looking for a few seconds, time you hear a noise start shooting in that direction, and make sure you're gun clip holds any where 15, or more ammunition with bullets penetrating through elephant hide. Also have at least 2 knives with a blade at least 6,or 7 inches long. I would have 3 clips with 15 or more rounds, but as for me I would not have been in the wilderness because I know bears 🐻🐨, and other wild animals are in the wilderness. Why people don't think too stab a bear 🐨 are any other wild animals in their eyes,or their ears damage them in their sensitive areas. Always have a plan, and stay in survival mode. With your knife 🔪🔫🔪🔫 slit their throat, are cut off a paw 🐾🐕🐾 that's how sharp your knife 🔪🔪🔫🔪🤕 should be.
Jeremy is one tough guy! 🤗
Great…my husband is going hunting for sheep up here in Alaska in 2 weeks. First time he’s ever been pulled for sheep and he’s beyond excited. I however am not. I hate his hunting trips but I know how much he loves it. Super stressful, can’t even talk to him he’ll be way out. Anyway probably shouldn’t b watching this.
I've seen a video of Doug Seuss playing with a similar-sized sow to this video named Honey Bump. She was playfully shaking her head and a whole ass man was flying on it like some rodeo game.
That helped me imagine how this angry bear completely ragdolled the big guy. Sheesh
It's absolutely terrifying how strong they are. 😳
😰 Scary!
Jeremy had the frame of mind to think of survival instincts, despite his life-threatening injuries. A rare trait indeed! 💪🏾
Human fortitude amazes me. It's usually the love for your family that keeps you going through instances like this. Lucky guy.
That was the best one yet. Dude should be a national icon after that, immortalized by bronze statue ect ect
Jesus Murphy. I'm from Calgary and hope I have a chance to run into Jeremy one day. What an insane story.
Damn, f*ck, that hurts, I felt all of that.. This is one of the wildest stories I have ever heard about. 💯👍🐻🥵
The fact baby shark song help save this dudes life is a miracle on its own.
I honestly did not believe this story. Surely it had to be made up BUT then to learn there is a book. I am not sure that I could read it knowing it contains even more graphic details but I will purchase it in support of a true HERO.
There are few things more dangerous than a mother bear, including a male bear. A male bear is more likely to leave you alone unless it is hungry. Not a mother bear. She will eat you so she can feed her cubs.😮😮😮
I was in Cripple Creek,and Evergreen,CO,
But now in Colorado Springs.
Thanks for your good videos and good questions
to think about.
The most important and pressing question while someone is hiking through
mixed trees and heavy brush,"are you prepared and equipped to deal with a sudden attack from a bear
that suddenly charges from
several feet or yards away?
I sure like what some hunters have a 10mm in a very good chest holster, that can be quickly
deployed in a second,on a bear that's bent on sampling your own blood and bone, right now.
Thanks "Scary Bear Attacks," for helping us all to be more aware and prepared!!!
