MBTs failing to penetrate Sturmtiger actually doos make some sense. The hull UFP on this thing is 70mm RHA at 80° (yes, you read that right). In simulations, Russian 3BM42 Mango barely goes through M1A2 UFP which is 38mm at 82.5°. Of course the MBT will need very bad luck to hit that tiny strip of extremely sloped armor.
It still surprises me that, despite the "holidays", Phly is still able to -> 13:28 drive in a straight line through one of the most guarded areas on the maps, in top tier, with a WW2 vehicle without anyone seeing him. XD I guess it's the magic of RUclips, Great video as always.
I had a 6.3 game where I got 6 kills with my Sturmtiger (4 came after losing my loader and commander) and no one noticed a 60 ton behemoth in the rear lobbing rockets at point blank range two of which they were within 150 meters of each other....I still don't understand.
I agree that the Sturmtiger should have an accurate ammo explosion, but if it kills teammates and perhaps even punishes you for TKing with minus SL, it would take all the fun and usability out of the vehicle.

i mean wouldnt the kinetic energy of a ~400kg shell going 250m/s alone be enouth to absolutely rip the turret-ring apart? i have seen pictures of Panzer 4's hit by a KV2/SU152 AP-shell. the shell somehow didnt penetrate but delivered so much energy it just ripped the turret of.
The reason why the shell goes through the Arrowhead armor on the leopard is that those addon cheeks are basicly just hollow pockets of steel with some smaller plates inside, meant to diffuse HEAT jets and break apart APFSDS shells.
I think the line up should be all 150mm up. 15cm Sig 33b fl, 15cm PZ.W.42, Brumbar, Strumtiger, Kpz-70(maybe) and no atgms. That derp gotta be lobbed over them hills😏.
Hey phly, IDK if you are a fan of it or not, but you should enable the option to show battle achievements on screen during Realistic battles. Give yourself that rush of GOdMode more often and show newer players what badges there are to earn in game to farm SL.
Use the platoon mark, it only aims at a point on the ground. Set the range and poke in the direction of the target looking at the minimap. So you can hit a lone tank with one hit.
The shell used on the Sturmtiger also has an interresting design history ! If i recall right it originally was supposed to be an an Anti-sub round for Battelships hence the caliber of 380mm like on the Bismarck class ! It was modified later on to bring down buildings and fortificatons instead ! Since there is no space for the equipment (like a gun weighing 111 tons / at leat 6 powder packs per shell ) to fire those rounds normaly like you would battelship , they added a rocketmotor to the round itself ! A typical crazy late war story of german engineering , but i guess it just shows how creative you can get if you back is against the wall !

DOLLARplays really does some good stuff with the Sturmtiger for those long range yeet shots. I've seen this thing crack three people on a spawn point early on just because they'd figured out how to accurately lob in from the far side of the map, got the nearest capture point to the enemy zeroed in, and popped off a shot the second the point started turning red. Stick your top just high enough to binoc rangefind over cover, lob barrel of death over said cover, enjoy reducing target to paste. It's a trebuchet on tracks, and it just plain doesn't belong at brawl range or even anywhere near the open if you can avoid it. Long range yeeting is this thing's claim to fame.
The Sturmtiger is kind of inconsistent. These rockets have almost as much boom in them as a 250kg bomb yet they don't do as much damage. It's kind of sad how bad Gaijin nerfed the Sturmtiger.
So based entirely off the Bismarks 38cm shells that only had 69kg explosive filler(as opposed to 135kg). Lets take the hits on the hood for actual real world effect. The first detonating shell hit on the hood melted and deformed the turret armour and barbette armour of the primary armament. it made a near wave like shape leaving almost only structural steal and a thin layer of the actual plate. That was between 300 and 380 MM of armour deformed ALONG the plate by the explosion.... That cannon barrel would of been turned into molten slag and thrown across the battlefield like one of my GI joe toys when I was 12 and checking a tantrum. Thats best case scenario. In all likely "hood", it would be broken down into such small pieces that they wouldnt even hold much thermal potentail and be turned into a wave of sharp shrapnel being sprayed everywhere. You wouldn't of just killed an abrams gun but mostly likely yourself and all your brothers in arms in the near area. On a side note about old school super weapons: Large kinetic weapons weren't discontinued because they didn't have potential, they were shelved for many years(see the resurgence of 155mm) because they were expensive and a technical kill could be achieved with alot less by using clever modern design. The bismarks cannons and other 380/381mm cannonade would still be just as devestating today as they were back then. Not much aside from a lucky extremely fortified bunker would of been able to withstand even a single close hit from such a gun right up until maybe the 2015's when the composite armour of tanks reached a theoretical absurd level of thermal resistance but this still hasn't been tested in real world or well documented situations and is still very top secret.

Nah, it would work like current ammo rack does and give the kill to the person whom ammo racks the tank. So multi kills galore.

Phly if you want a good reaction with the sturmtiger in the pen test shoot the right side of the m1a2 sep directly on the identification panel's center it might take a few tries but it is well worth it

War thunder should just model the impact the same as a 200lb bomb direct impact. What's the radius on that? Couple meters at least. Direct impact certainly a kill on any vehicle...
War thunder logic right here. 38cm sturmtiger round can kill me in my m41 bulldog while im on the other side of a building from where the round lands. NO windows. no doors. Solid building between me and the round but i die anyway. Then, i can drop a 2k pound bomb right on a panthers head with my au1 and nothing happens. Its stupid if u think about it
