Casey is right, film development and overall services here in China are awesome. There are now many smaller darkrooms in major cities, being opened by the new generation of film enthusiasts. Most of them accept ECN-2 process since shooting cinema and ChineseStill films (remjet pre-removed by hand, only recommended for ECN-2 process) are very common here. The best lab I have been working with in Shanghai, processes everything (including D67, D96 and even Aerochrome), scans with Nikon mirrorless or other scanners, fine adjusts every photo manually, finish everything normally within one week, for less than $4 per roll. Film camera repairing and trading in local shops in major cities is also convenient. I just hadmy Pentax SLR shutter replaced for $13 while traveling in Wuhan. And yes, you two mamiyamigos are popular in Chinese film communities as well. You two should definitely visit China, and film a 4-hr RUclips video one day❤
@@jasonwong8397unfortunately I don’t think u can find real good labs based on reviews on map. local film groups could be a good place for advice. I know Huang Jing, a professional photographer/artist, shoots his works on analog Leica, and he is based in Shenzhen. Maybe u can ask him through his social media for recommendations as well.
If your light meter is coupled to the shutter, you can simply solder a bypass wire (don’t over heat) and the light meter and the camera will work. Old cameras aren’t complicated to repair, most people just don’t have the courage to try, or spend the money on the property equipment.
Love the video! As a digital shooter, I can't relate to everything but I love hearing the four of you talk about film and photography and techniques. Love it all. Cheers!
Thank you Casey for adressing the fact that the word "cinematic" is being thrown around too often ! It was one of my favorite episode so far, it just seemed like a genuine discussion between friends
this is the perfect podcast to listen to while getting a mani-pedi for my dogs final dog show before we sell him to a breeding farm in mexico. and then to the haberdashery after because i need the seams taken out a bit on my tweed show pants. thanks!
Hey David @davidimel is your Makina the newest model (670)? I have the original 67 and even though I already bought it with a non-functioning meter (and didn’t get around to repair it yet), the shutter works normally. In fact, I chose that camera over the Mamiya 7 and the GF670 partly because it was way cheaper, but also because it has a mechanical shutter so if the electronics eventually stop working I could still use it. Maybe the 670 has a worse implementation of the light meter?
this show feels like a huge flex, like "one guy says: i poop solid diamonds and gold but i havent pooped in 2 years, others: yeah 100% agreee yeaaaaah sameee ahaha "
I recently bought a Mamiya 6, and the film advance sensor died, meaning the camera died. 3 weeks after I bought it. Thankfully it had just been serviced and I think had a bit of a warranty, but its been in the shop for a while.
he was right on the mamiya 7 photos just looking like reality aka digital it literally looks like digital which is why i find it funny when people are die hard film and use the mamya 7 and shit on digital when there images are sharper and more clinical than digital at times
You guys seriously need to come to South Africa. There are still a bunch of camera techs from the old days working. Had a Neoca 2S completely repaired and serviced for your equivalent of $100. ... and dudes... I hope none of you have kids, cuz you for sure will forget your kids on an Uber or a train or a plane or a park bench or something -LOL
omg it's the four white guys with expensive hobbies podcast (and i'm not gonna get any likes here because I'm 10 months late and no sane people watch these anyway)
Great episode. That guy David seems like he’d be hard to be around for an extended period of time. Seems like a know it all / I’m better than you type of guy. Who knows I could be wrong maybe he’s the nicest guy in the world. That’s just the vibe I’m getting. Good episode boys can’t wait for the next one.
Gxace on here is the craziest guest by far, great episode guys!
just you wait for Baxter...
I hope you’re next 👍

Jason casually drinking whiskey while everyone else is drinking coffee
This is by far one of the greatest group of photographers on RUclips right now. Love seeing Gxace. Keep up the great work everyone.

Can I buy one of those Caleb shirts oh my god 😍
I just realised that Casey sounds a lot like MrBeast. Also his facial expressions are somewhat similar. Maybe MrBeast is Casey's Herbert Powell.
Wow, gxace.
G O A T S
correction on the chapters (unless its some kind of pun idk its 7 am) david always loses* cameras in ubers
WTH - Coke instead of Flaming Hot MD???
My Makina 67 lightmeter is not working, but I can shoot with it. Nothing to do between eachother, I believe

David is prolific and well respected by many. That wouldn't be the case if he were a douche as you're implying.
Marry me
A lot of inside baseball talk about video production. What’s an A&B roll?
Google is useful 👌

This is the sad state of photography. So much real work to be seen.
I feel like Jason and Gx are the missing pieces between Ryan Gosling and Bryan Gozzling
