Will NGAD Replace The F-22 Raptor? Or Fly With It For Years?

- Will America's 6th-Generation stealth fighter fly beside the F-22 Raptor for years, or replace it? Although the US Air Force has long been transparent about its planned NGAD, the U.S. House and Senate Armed Services Committee advised that the Air Force modify its aging F-22s rather than get rid of them entirely in 2022. However, the Air Force intends to spend the $500 million on its NGAD rather than continuing to upgrade the remaining 32 F-22s. The future of the F-22 is considerably more uncertain now that the competition to field the NGAD program is underway. Stay connected for more latest updates.

F-22: an aged aircraft.
F-15: ouch! My back!
True
The F-15 is still one of the greatest aircraft of all time
@Dylan-ji1xx it's sadly out dated as it's been in service for like 50 years
@The unknown Cat it has been upgraded. It isn't the same aircraft as it was 50 years ago. The only thing that hasn't changed is its airframe. Imagine you have a really old computer and you rip out all of its old internals and put in brand new top of the line components. The only thing you kept was the case. Is it still outdated? Fuck no. One squadron of F15 EX's could ground the entire Russian airforce. The F-15 still remains one of the few jets to have seen combat but has never been shot down by an enemy alongside the Hawker Harrier. The F-22 is 20 years old now, so don't act like old stuff isn't good.
@Dylan-ji1xx you stupid the air frame as no stealth it will be shot down by missiles its like taking a biplane with a better engine and guns into ww2 it wouldn't stand a chance
“Aging F-22s” bruh its still the most advanced fighter jet in the world bar none
The f-35 is more advanced considering the f-22 just got helmet radar display, IRSTs, new missiles, and drop tanks that hinder its stealth capabilities but the f-22 is still the stealthiest and most maneuverable jet literally ever along with having the most powerful jet engine ever produced
@@mrslayerdude3344”more advanced” maybe but not as capable as the F22 in air combat and a lot cheaper to manufacture.
F35 being a Jack of all trades instead of a master of the craft.

First of all there are more than 32 operational F22s. There are 123 combat ready F22s.
190 total though, but only more than half are flight ready on a moments notice
They upgraded all but 32 of the F22s with the helmet HUD system in the F35 and who knows what else. Massively expensive overhaul. The NGAD is way more capable than the F22s or any manned vehicle because of the limitations of the human pilots. If people didn't G lock then the F22 would be a much more maneuverable aircraft.
@@bryanmckeithen899 you are exactly right. If you can replace the pilot limitations in an aircraft then we can truly start to explore the limitations of the airframes. This is a huge part of the NGAD program.

Dumb how they handled the f22.
Yea, they gave it “no ability” to be able to be upgraded in the future.
They are just being mum about it but there is more credence to the news that China was able to hack and steal a lot of data about the stealth program of US than they actually admit that's why the fast tracked the possible fielding of the NGAD.. let's all just look into what fighters of China really have in them even the design is almost identical..the stealth fighter was compromised more severely than what was being revealed in the media
@@ArchangelTwelve well no that’s not true. The cost benefit of upgrading them is just not there - spend 100m on software to upgrade 100 F22s or spend 100m on software and upgrade 4000 F35s? They handled the whole program poorly, but that’s Congress’ fault really.

Im with you on this one it makes no sense to take that one out before the much older ones

Wouldn’t mind f22 staying in service, but I don’t think its that clear cut.
@maxh.4695 at the end of the day, I'll believe the 22 will retire when they dround the last A-10...any 5th generation or newer airframe will require a ridiculous amount of maintenance and it may become more about the number of each aircraft in service than retiring a full model line.
@@edwardcody1671 They haven't been able to kill the A10 yet. They don't have a capable CAS platform yet and doesn't seem like they are really trying. They staked it all in the F35.

Why do all fight jets look so amazing.
I was stationed at Edward's AFB from 1990 thru 92 and watched while the XYF22 and 23 were testing everyone I ever talked to said the YF23 was such a more capable plane. The YF23 looked amazing in flight. The B2 and C17 were testing there at the same time. It was an amazing time. Tho I can imagine what it was like in the 50's thru the 70's, those must have been some crazy years.
There's 187 F-22s. 195 if we count the 8 test ones. At least that are reported, I'm willing to bet there's over 500 of them stored away as Secret Arsenal. Since they're not for sale and other countries cannot purchase them, The US still has all 195+ of them. The thing here is that the F-22 will indeed continue to fly alongside NGAD and F-22s may be sold later in the future as a form of political and strategic leverage.

Faster(ideally max speed substantially above mach 2.5 with supercruise at mach 2+), better thrust to weight ratio, more powerful AESA with ability to turn inside the nose cone(like Su-35's PESA does), one big(and ideally long to have space for longer missiles in the future) weapons bay with space for 8+2 and some long range designs, better interface to decrease information load on pilot(not all people are ADHD after all), open architecture to make it upgradable cheaply, a bit more maneuverable and stealthy maybe too

I don’t know if anyone out there knows this but back in 2018 , the United States Air Force built a 6th generation aircraft using money they never had to spend , extra money that was surplus . This fighter jet can be maned or unmanned depending on the situation & can be used in any kind of situation as well . This thing can fight other enemy fighter jets on it own & make its own calls when in battle or it can assist other fighter aircraft on its own , as of now its running through its paces & could be on the battlefield by 2026 . They can switch out the nose of the aircraft for different situation if it’s totally running on its own . Kinda like Tin Man from the movie STEALTH but better .
The fact that it's getting retired when it has a balloon kill is embarrassing💀
While the F22 is still way ahead of any near peer competitor. The goal has always been to stay an entire generation of fighter ahead of our enemy. The real reason is that China and Russia simply can not afford to produce this level of capability. It would cost China their entire military budget for the next 10 years just to try and catch up to a single airplane. So if they want to continue to build their navy and update their ground forces. They will fall further and further behind until around 2050 when a 7th generation fighter is introduced and that’s basically an X wing from Star Wars. It will be literally able to go to space, orbit the earth and then come directly down where it will essentially be able to destroy any target we choose. Hell with directed energy weapons it’s likely we will literally have a space plane that can shoot lasers and at that point the Chinese and Russians will be so far behind that they’ll essentially have to admit total defeat. It’s like if you went back to WW1 with an F15. It would absolutely crush the enemy lines and win the war instantly. The same thing is being attempted with this. We want to be so far ahead that during any conflict we can overwhelm their forces and make it obvious to all of their troops that they’re going to lose.
While the F-22 Raptor is a highly advanced and capable fighter aircraft, it is important to note that no system is without its drawbacks. Here are some commonly discussed cons or limitations associated with the F-22:
1. Cost: The F-22 is an expensive aircraft to develop, procure, and maintain. Its high unit cost has limited the number of aircraft produced, resulting in a smaller fleet size compared to other fighter aircraft. The high cost has also made it challenging to sustain and upgrade the existing fleet.
2. Maintenance and Reliability: The F-22 has complex systems and advanced stealth features, which require extensive maintenance and specialized support equipment. The aircraft's unique features and low-observable technologies can make maintenance and repairs more time-consuming and costly.
3. Export Restrictions: The F-22 is currently restricted for export under U.S. law due to concerns about protecting its advanced technologies. This limits potential international sales or cooperative development opportunities, which can affect the program's global reach and influence.
4. Limited Ground Attack Capabilities: While the F-22 is primarily designed as an air superiority fighter, it has limited ground attack capabilities compared to dedicated strike aircraft like the F-15E or F-35. It lacks certain specialized ground attack features, such as a large payload capacity or significant loiter time over the battlefield.
5. Operational Readiness and Availability: The F-22 has experienced challenges with its readiness rates and availability for missions. Factors such as maintenance requirements, supply chain issues, and availability of spare parts have occasionally affected the aircraft's overall operational availability.
6. Size of Fleet: The F-22 program was truncated, resulting in a relatively small fleet size. The limited number of aircraft constrains operational flexibility and the ability to deploy and sustain a larger presence in multiple locations simultaneously.
It's important to note that these limitations should be considered within the context of the F-22's overall capabilities and the intended role for which it was designed. The F-22 remains a highly advanced and effective air superiority fighter with unmatched stealth and maneuverability, and it continues to play a significant role in the U.S. Air Force's strategic capabilities.
True but think about this, a single f-15 in WW2 would be deadly to face yes, but wouldn't change the tide if the war. Not when your fighting tens of thousands of enemy aircraft. And further more whole a single f-15 is very difficult for WW2 fighters and air defenses to deal with it wouldn't be impossible if a concerted effort was made to destroy it. Also destroying it it more vulnerable states (landing, out of ammo, low on fuel, in maintenance, ect) would still be very plausible. My point being while being technologicaly ahead of the opposition is great. Only being able to produce a small number of them ultimately wouldn't do much to change the course of a large scale battle, expecially if the enemy vastly outnumbers you. Everything has a counter nothing is invincible and a certain thing can only be at a certain place. Ways to counter an f-15 in WW2? Fly dummy sorties cannon fodder units to expend it's ammo or tie into an area and amass AAA fire. Commit more forces than he can engage, find it's airports and sabotage them, party him on the ground, raid the airbase while under maintaince. Or just launch offensives wherever it's not. So while push for more advanced technology is great. A perfect weapons thats to advanced to be produced in numbers is effectively useless. Think German wonderwaffe, American zumwalt, or Russian T-14's ect ect
@@averagegamer1684 a good example is the Me 262 and how it was dealt with.
You will never have any jet fly above 120,000'.
Eastern countries have different approach, them not focusing on stealth because of expensiveness is not a prior reason. Unlike US they build vehicles as cost effective as possible (especially russia), hence why their highest priority is firepower, maneuverability (speed included) and radars. They may not have best stealth or stealth at all, but they just don't need it, like, even SU-35S is able to shoot F22 down without external help or some extreme struggles. First of all, F22 0.0001 RCS is just a bullshit based on the -40dBsm value which was allegedly reported by an unnamed source to the yellow AW&ST.
Modeling the ERP using a 3D model (that is, obviously without taking into account the RPM) gives about 0.3-0.4 sq.m. for the F-22, taking into account good RPM, we can reduce this value by an order of magnitude - as a result, no less than 0.03 sq. m for the X-band. In addition, the EPR value varies non-linearly depending on the change in wavelength and angle. Russian radar like Irbis will detect and lock on such target from over a 120km in (as it works on drones with 0.01 rcs from 90 km), and considering that the maximum range for a-a missiles is indicated for relatively slow non-maneuverable targets, for example, a transport aircraft, a tanker, an AWACS aircraft flying on a rocket carrier, for a highly maneuverable target, the launch range is reduced by 2-3 times, because the target can "exhaust" the rocket with maneuvers, the engine of which, by the way, works only 6-7 seconds after launch, and force it to drain energy, so f22 will be forced in close combat

When you have the 16 and 15 still hanging around, why would you eliminate a vastly superior plane? 1- 22 can take out 4- 15s from the runway.
Its all logistics. F-16s, F-15, and for the matter F/A-18s are much cheaper to aquire and operate than F-22's and F-35's. Also, F-22's are very difficult and expensive to upgrade, where the 35's were designed around being modular. The airforce has had for a long time a doctrine of using expensive air superiority fighters to screen the air before sending cheaper fighters to operate in minimally contested airspace.
@@rlevy13 F-22 is pretty much dead. Air Force will stop funding training in 2024. The plane is so expensive to fly that they simply don't have the money to continue too operate it. F-22: they're gonna retire me because im old
The Hawker Harrier in the corner used for training still:
F-22 will get reolaced but the F-16 never will
What if the NGAD is a newer and more advance version of the YF-23 Black Widow and Grey Ghost
new design, new era, new plane, new gen
Has similar planform wingswise to F 23
It should the yf should have won it was way better. the f22 was outdated in 8 years after deployment
Yes, the NGAD is very similar to the 23. And yes, the pentagon realizes their mistake in not producing both.
@@Watermeloncat575it isn't outdated, it's just way too expensive.
Hey with we haven't even got a 5th gen fighter an we are already going to 6
what do you think the F-22 and F-35 are?
bro's been living under a rock
F35 and F22 are 5th gen
Damn I thought the f22 and f35 were like close to being 5th gen but aren’t 100% 5th gen more like 4.5
@@bobthebuilder1360 5th gen is the full application of stealth. They are completely 5th gen. F22 is beaten in stealth by only the B2 Spirit. 4.5 would be the Su57 and J20, neither plane is stealth, they are counted as reduced visibility considering both still have a radar cross section the size of a plane
I seroiusly doubt that the optimum maneuvering algorithms leading to an unbelievable maneuverability of the F22 can be improved significantly. If a different operation is desirable then it is not a replacement, but in name only.
Only an expert can judge this, an optimum is just the same optimum, no matter how many times you determine it. The retirement of the F22 would be a tragically bad decision. Not using large tail surfaces must deteriorate maneuvrability. The real change reflects a different mission.
There is no aircraft invisible to radar, because there are many radar frequencys possible and in use. Extreme example radar is still an electromagnetic radiation as are x-rays visible light, IR etc The radar reflection allows you to see it, with a very high frequency, when illuminated with a search light.
You don't want to upgrade or improve the maneuverability of the F22 any further unless you like having all your pilots die from the excessive G loading, with Gen 5 fighters the biggest limitation we have is the pilot, the human element.
@@NachtjagerVII Aber Tagjäger die Beschleunigung hängt vom Piloten ab je nachdem und wie weit er den Knüppel zieht.
Imagine being the most advanced aircraft in the world that is completely combat ready and your first kill ever is an air balloon just for you to get retired right after that.
I am excited to see f22 and NGAD flying together in an air show
What about the US debt ceiling?
The military as 900 billion in budget the Government spends a lot more on stupid stuff like wind and solar power when we have nuclear

No. The ngad is not a dog fighter.

China: but... we haven't even fielded our J20 yet?
Chinese engineers: sketch that out , sketch that out!
The F22 is already obsolete 🤔??? Well, that was 2 trillion tax dollars well spent. 😂🤣😅

32? Hmm last I checked the Air National guard has 12 right here.
I'll buy the F-22 fighters the government doesn't want...hahaha. We'll go hunting for those Chinese spy balloons! 😂

Well the 6th Gen should work more closely with the F-22 because when combined the results these two fighters will be astonishing 🔥
I thought that spy balloon was the first combat an F-22 ever saw
Bro what is our government thinking? We need to keep the F-22! I’m not trying to fly no NGAD

"Aging F-22s"
P-51 Mustang: "now you listen here"
Americans discovered Russian engineering finally.
The thing of it is, the moment you get rid of the plane that you say you don't need, you will likley need it worse than ever. It's like messenger birds in the Second World War. When you needed them, you needed them BADLY.
Now that i think of it. The Turbokat, looks like a mashup of the F-22 and the NGAD.
Could imagine two turbofans through the wings of the ngad for assisted vtol
I wish they’d make more Raptors, but thats borderline impossible

The F-22 is still better than the F-35.
500mil is literally spare change for the scope of such program
I dont understand why the Pentagon is hell bent on discontinuing the F-22 and just basically ignoring them. The F-22 is amazing. The pilots say they're amazing. Our enemies fear them and noone has anything close to it. The F-22 has become a red headed step kid.
U.S. is like: "You see those cool looking jets on that Ace Combat video game? Yeah, let's make those."
They bringing in the EDIs from Stealth “my mandate is to survive”
I played a PC game in the late 90's called "F-22 Lightning". Yet the F16 is still the most used jet in the military.
The ngad model shown is really great. Like it would strike fear in any enemy!
The F22 isn't going away. The F35 should go and more F22s built. Our pilots deserve the best.
The F-35 is superior due to it's aircraft Cartier capability, and it's BVR superiority. The F22 is just very expensive, so it's production had stopped. Also, i bet most pilots would preder an F-35 over an F22.
imagine if all our tax dollars DIDNT go to war and death
