    Chinese Fighter Jets ranked ruclips.net/video/hIxtudj3zUw/видео.html
    To review the full ranking. Take a look in the description! For those of you asking why the A-10 is here, I developed a ranking system shortly after this video that allows me to compare any aircraft type from any era. So it doesn't really matter if it isn't a fighter jet. Check out the video explanation of the ultimate aircraft ranking system here. ruclips.net/video/5ceOBXRjdVs/видео.html

  • @BasedF-15Pilot
    @BasedF-15Pilot Год назад +310

    I'm an F-15C pilot. Multi-role = compromise. You did a good job separating the F-15C and F-15E as different aircraft, because they are. The F-15E has larger 229 engines to the F-15C 220 engines, but as an engineer you know aerodynamic drag is exponential, which is why the F-15E is not nearly as effective in air combat as the C model because the mudhen has so much stuff hanging off the bottom of it. The E model is just a small B1B honestly, to me. The radars are different as well, the C-model has a pure air to air radar while some of the AESA antenna in the E model are dedicated to ground attack, which is a compromise. This is the same reason why the F/A-18 (both Hornet and Rhino variants) is easy peasy for me in air combat. I can acquire and shoot it with a purist, slick aircraft with a purist air to air radar which pairs better with AMRAAMs. Some multi-role radars do not unlock the AMRAAMs full potential, even if the jet can carry it. If the fight is visual, I can usually bait a Hornet driver to crank nose, dump energy, and then I can easily outrun it in a 2-circle. If bait doesn't work, it's just a longer fight, and I add vertical axis to drive the Hornet closer to stall. The only 2 aircraft I ever really have problems with are F-22 because it cheats :) And the Eurofighter close in and at medium or low alt because the Eurofighter has a magnificent pair of engines. Eurofighters up high in the cons are easy because of air density and wing loading, just like the F-16, but the F-22 is hard everywhere. We should have bought many, many more F-22s and never bought the F-35.

    • @AviationAustin
      @AviationAustin  Год назад +14

      Thanks for that insight! Yes I have reevaluated the F-15C recently to account for for it's ATA combat record. As for experience in the sky none is better. The Harrier was one of a kind. It isn't specifically a "fighter" in the classic sense - it's more like a Close Air Support/Multi-Mission Attack plane that the Marines used with great effectiveness. It was a part of the Marine Air/Ground Task Force (MAGTF) with Amphibious Infantry Elements, Armored Elements, Anti-Air, Rotor-Wing (helos), and Fixed-Wing aircraft (Harriers, F/A-18C/D's, and F-4 Wild Weasels) all working in tandem with MARSOC (Marine special ops) and with Navy, Air Force, and Army detachments. It was one of the hardest planes to fly and Marine Pilots had to be tip-top, squared-away to even qualify. I have a soft spot for the Harrier because I was part of a Harrier Maintenance Support Squadron from '87-'92. Good times Action Jackson....
    P.S.:
    400~600+ MPH is reaaally fast if you're flying treetop levels - of which the Marine Harrier Pilots did a LOT of. Really impressive when you see them fly that fast and that low - no margin for error at all....
    P.S.S.: The F-5 was the base design that birthed the F/A-18 Hornet.

    • @vexingrabbit1824
      @vexingrabbit1824 5 месяцев назад +1

      funny thing is the other countries still fail to produce any real 5th gen. The SU-57 is a joke with a radar cross section big enough to lock it up in BVR situations. The SU-57 is just a 4th gen with some stealth properties pretending to be a 5th gen. China's 5th gen J-20 is all about looking cool and looks dangerous but it has the same problem as the SU-57. Lacks proper stealth while I admit it's fast but however again it's just a 4th gen with some stealth material and reduce radar cross section... These aircrafts are not acual 5th gens. Just pretending to be in order to set up a paper tiger tactic to try to scare western nations in thinking they have similar ability as the US. Ukraine war proves this, Russia won't deploy their so called 5th gen because it would expose it's papar tiger to be nothing more than just that.

  • @TakeawayBark537
    @TakeawayBark537 Год назад +3

    The F/A18 E/F Super Hornet's design origins actually date back to the mid fifties with the design of the F5 Tiger, as the F18's design principles were based off of the F5 Tiger's, like the leading edge root extensions, the trailing edge of the wing being 90 degrees, the leading edge of the wing being lightly angled, rhe full span leading edge slats, the lightweight, multrole, twin engine design, and much more. Then the Super Hornet "Rhino" expanded upon the F18's design principles, so the Rhino's design principles date back to the fifties!

      At first, I thought the same thing, but after thinking about it I agree with the video. Although it is the best 4th gen rate fighter in the world, it is limited for roles, like ground attack, that the F18 can do. The F16 is also limited it BVR, do to its small nose cone that can't fit much better radars out there. So though the F16 is an exceptional dogfighter, after that it's pretty average

    Only the 35b has thrust vectoring, sort of, it's not dynamic like the f22, or even the harrier, which are used to enhance flight characteristics, it is only used in the vtol portion of the flight envelope, the a and c variants do not have thrust vectoring. As an engineer I really expected the giant leap forward in avionics to be your reasoning behind the f35 being so high.

      @@bigg_survivor_8876 The F-22 has thrust vectoring that can match the Russian counterpart, which are known for extreme thrust vectoring capability. With it being more maneuverable, the F-22 can shoot the F-14 in only one turn in a dogfight situation.
      At long range, the F-22 has a cross sectional area of a bee. With the older radar technology of the F-14 it is practically impossible to shoot the F-22 down. Whenever the F-22 shoots, the F-14 is 99% dead.
      The F-35 is definitely dead in a dogfight with the F-14 though, it was never meant for dogfighting.
      The F-35 has an almost identical story with F-22 vs F-14 long range. The F-35 can evade long range missiles easier than the F-14 and due the stealth, and when missiles are fired from the F-35 to an F-14, it’s practically dead.

      In what sort of actual conflict scenarios is vertical landing actually going to be critical, though? I really think most people need to start realizing that China is our only true peer military rival at this point, and that war with them is a very real possibility in the next 10 years or so. God willing that doesn't happen, but if it does, something like vertical landing doesn't really help much. Longer range is much more useful. Outside of a conflict with China, any standard F35 is more than a match for anything they'll be up against and again the longer range is simply more useful.

    In the mid/late ’70’s Dick Cheney and his financial group tried to buy a controlling interest of Grumman stock. Unfortunately for them Grumman’s major stockholders were its own employee’s. After offering stupid high dollars for the stock they fell short. If I remember correctly I think they got about 30% of the stock. The group then abandoned the effort. Cheney publicly stated ” I will make sure Grumman never gets another major contract again”! And they didn’t. Cheney was DOD chief when the F22 was chosen over the F23 ( Grumman/Northup). These are only the active US fighter fleet. Not necessarily where they were manufactured. Only current US fighter jets were included in this video. My next video will be the current Chinese fighter jets. Coming out next week. I'm slowly working my way through everyone!

    This is a great video AA one thing is lots of aircraft are alot older on here then 22" and 35", My pick would be the turning ability go with the F-16 or older F-18 with the lex package installed , Combat tested belongs the F-15 eagle , The rest your on your own haha im a old US Navy F-18 ordie from the late 80" , Well done here !

    Hey Austin, can you explain the thinking in the us military for the needs of so many different jet’s?

    • @maynardburger
      @maynardburger 7 месяцев назад

      Newer gen jets basically always means more $$$ in cost. This makes it nearly impossible to just completely replace the entire giant fleet of jets we already had with newer ones, cuz we need quantity still. And planes like F15 and F16 are still very competitive against almost anybody except China. It's basically a slow, long-term phasing out where you still need to keep older stuff around for a good while still. As for having different jets within a specific generation, it's just different capabilities. Especially with all the different armed force divisions. Air Force and Navy have differing needs. Answering this in more detail would require more explanation than any RUclips comment could provide.

    Yes A-10 should be placed there by your comments. But triple redundant controls (dual hydraulics and a mechanical system for control) This thing is good at what it was designed for, close support under fire. For the pilot and the ground forces it protects. So during 9-11, all fights stopped. I live nearby Minneapolis airport and the silence was loud - if that makes sense. 2 F-16 took off from MSP and did a straight up takeoff at maximum climb. The high pitch and noise from that was spectacular and made all of my neighbors go outside and look up after the silence of the grounding of all airplanes. One of the coolest things I've seen in person.

    I don't know if it's important in this list, but AoA has some weight in a dogfight. The F-18 can hold it's own in a turn/2 circle fight. It can definitely give the f15 and a lot of other fighters some trouble (f22 and eurofighter excluded). Yes, a f15 pilot wouldn't get into a turn fight with a hornet when he can thrust away or use attack BVR.. I just love the f18 so I'm biased.

    Based on your criteria, your list is appropriate. However, if you’re ranking aircraft it’s good to consider what they’re designed for. This ranking system works pretty well for air to air ranking. Ask any infantryman and the A-10 would be #1, because it was designed for ground attack. Any air to air capability is an afterthought, similar to putting air to air missiles on an Apache. Overall great job tho 👍🏼

    F-35’s do not have thrust vectoring capabilities. The B variant can change the direction of the nozzle in stovl mode but it is not considered thrust vectoring in that application.

    So according to some sources: “the a-10 thunderbolt II has engines that can fly really slow and not spin or stall. Because of that the engine will not get that hot so the a-10 can easily shake of heat seeking missiles” so my opinion is like 8/7th place but not too high compared to the f-22 raptor.

    You don’t need 20/20 vision to fly, you just need correctable to 20/20. Even then, you can get waivers if you don’t quite meet the requirements.

    All and all I think this was a pretty fare list. Sure people will think maybe a couple fighters should be swapped around, but after putting all a aircrafts abilities, I think your pretty spot on. The only thing I didn't care for was the way you did the F35 in the 2,3, and 4 spots, sure their built for different operations, but think you could of just said #2, but that's just a opinion, but still it's a nice list, and good job

    Hi Im an airplane geek from Hawaii. I'm 53yrs old. My first model plane I've built was the F4 Phantom 2. That's what hooked me. I borrowed every airplane civilian and war planes available. Eventually I had to go to the state library to gety hands on more material. I was only 8 yrs old. I dreamt of being a pilot or an astronaut. I fell love With the yaw, pitch and roll principles and now with thrust to weight ratio and vectoring, it's bonkers. My top 5 is. F4(wish it had a cannon), F-14 Tomcat, F-16,Mig Foxbat desinged to take down our SR- 71, F-22 with it's thrust vectoring and super cruise and Lockheed SR 71 or A-12 for the geeks out there. And as honorable mention X-15 flew at 4500+ mph

      Technically if it's correctable to 20/20 you can get a waiver. I'm not sure they differentiate those requirements between aircraft. But CW Lemoine has the best channel for learning about becoming a pilot
