    Vitamin D (calciferol)
    Characteristics

    Active form: 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25-(OH)2 D3, calcitriol)
    Sources:
    --------------
    Ergocalciferol (vitamin D2): mushrooms, fortified foods (e.g., milk, breakfast cereals, formula), yeast (from ergosterol)
    Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3)
    Synthesized in the skin (stratum basale) when exposed to UV light
    Fortified foods (e.g., milk, breakfast cereals, formula), fatty fish (liver), egg yolks
    Vitamin D synthesis

    Liver: cholesterol → 7-dehydrocholesterol (provitamin D3)
    Enzyme: cholesterol dehydrogenase
    Skin
    Storage of 7-dehydrocholesterol
    Cleavage of 7-dehydrocholesterol via irradiation with UV light → cholecalciferol (in the stratum basale of the skin)
    Liver: hydroxylation of cholecalciferol to 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OH D3, calcidiol; activated vitamin D2)
    Kidneys: 1α-hydroxylase hydroxylates 25-hydroxyvitamin D → 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D
    Transport to target cells: vitamin D-binding protein (DBP)
    Storage: mainly in adipose tissue as 25-hydroxycholecalciferol
    Regulation of vitamin D synthesis: via regulation of 1α-hydroxylase activity in proximal convoluted tubule
    ↓ Calcium, ↓ phosphate, and ↑ PTH → ↑ 1α-hydroxylase activity → ↑ 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D biosynthesis

    100IU and 400IU is literally nothing.
    You need atleast 1000-5000IU

    How are Vitamin D supplement made? Are they vegan? Are they mostky defived from ovine sources? Is the Vitamin D made by our body through sunlight exoosure really sufficient? Halibut and cod liver oils contain both Vitamin A and Vitamin D - won’t we overdose on the Vitamin D? Which part of the sheep are Vitamin D supplemebts detived? The liver? What about halal issues? I have more questiojs but please kindly answer thress pressing questions first. Thank you

    Doc I have low levels at 25 then I started vit d3 at 4000iu with k2 and my body doesn’t respond well at all I get more anxiety cold sweats etc what should I do ?

    If you have a vitamin D deficiency and start taking supplements what is the prognosis for improvement in bone density? Can you increase your bone density even if you are an adult? I have a vitamin D deficiency + osteopenia 😢

    Can we get (synthesise) vit D if we stand in sunlight with shirt/T-shirt? Or is direct sunlight on skin required? Also guide for morning sunlight or anytime?

      better without shirt/t-shirt. Time frame is before 11:00 am and after 18:00 pm to ensure safe UV exposure.

    So maybe a leep but let's say you radiate someone with EMPs over time say 20 years. You'd leach their body and the kids would develop bone deformities like rickets. Also sudden increase in radiation would increase permeability of the intestinal lining causing nausea and vomiting with excess Vit D absorption. Then loss of Vit D due to hemorrhagic vasculitis of the radiation. If you wanted to do WW3. That's one way to do it.
