Since high end GPU's are powerful enough for local renders, I can't help but think that disallowing local renders is done simply so they can train their model on our generations... and then charging us for the privilege in doing so.
I can use my GTX 1060 for generating images. I am patient, works well with Stable diffusion. If that works fine, their model should work fine as well
pretty sure you can use generative fill locally in the jack sparrow version. Last I checked, you could use the remove tool locally.
@@ilusions4 The remove tool does not have that waiting bar and does not consume credits, it works locally
So what. I use a jack sparrow. I'm in a poor country. Is it😢forbidden for the poor in this era?
Adobe business model - squeeze even more money out of their user base...
I can run an AI image generator on my laptop! With a good GPU it only takes a few seconds to generate an image.
They gave us a toy, we had fun, and now we have to pay for it. Brilliant idea. RIP Adobe!
Greed, cheating and stealing is the nature of free-market capitalism. IBM started the game first, use it first then get rip off like sucker no tomorrow, but the West gave all those unscrupulous tricks very fancy academic names to legalize the crimes.
Agreed. I won't be using the "new toy".
@andresbonilla1446 are you kidding now? Adobe has millions of subscribers and billions on their accounts, and they want more and more, they treat us like monkeys, giving us peanuts and taking them back, this is not the correct way.
@andresbonilla1446 or sail the high seas
@andresbonilla1446 I know that. I also learned LONG ago that Adobe doesn't listen to their customers having asked for help with software problems many times. I'll admit that I'm too comfortable (and lazy) to change (too many custom assets I've made over the 15 +years I've been using it).
I've tried MANY different alternatives, but They just don't "fit". So, like the case with Windows. I'm stuck. (and no, I've got too much $$ in CG software to switch to a Mac) Doesn't mean I have to like everything.
As it currently stands, most generative fill results look like garbage with my biggest issue being cartoon-like generations being created for real photos. Tonight, I played around with it and almost everything was unusable being either unrealistic, incorrectly blocking words or just totally misunderstanding the request. And then of course there's the issue with the low resolution. It's not worth a premium at the moment for extra credits, it should still be in beta.
just generate a 1000x1000 square and make it an action and it'll be hi res
That’s what I’ve found. Clearly for hobbyists who clamor for More Mountains, More Flowers, Prettier Skies!
depends on how you're using it. If you're using it to add completely foreign things, yes, it'll look bad. To expand on what's already there, it
s great. I use it with Fuji GFX files all the time, to fill in panoramic stitching.
This can be achieved by using a controlnet with stable diffusion.
You either get cartoons, unusable results, or they tell you that the image was sexually explicit. Basically they say you broke the Adobe rules and when you check the rules that talks about sex in your pictures. I find this software to be a joke I find that adobe is half-assed with bugs and crashes more than it works. They have also made so many updates to make the software so demanding on your computers that it just lags unless you got a brand new supercomputer. Which by the way I spent $3,000 building a supercomputer and still have issues with adobe's bugs and crashes. And they wondered why their stock is in the toilet. That's another thing go look at the stock and they are hurting bad right now. So what are they do they charge us more. I swear to God if I was a developer I'll do the software for the people by the people.
The biggest problem for now is the image quality of generative fill is toooooooo low for photography usage. I won't pay for it if it is not improved.
agreed the quality isnt even there but they want their money. when they up the resolution with they now want more? instead of 1 credit for a "fill" in low rez will they now want 3 credits for the hi quality? i suspect this will happen.
They should charge you only when you "Save" a project using it. Because the trial and errors using this feature should not cost you
that processing is costly for them too y'know.. but yes i'm sure they can afford it as a company.
definitely not, because you can take a screenshot
They need to have something akin to: _"Hey- Did this thing work for you?"_ and then allow for credits to be charged. Getting errors or having stuff be flat-out wrong is a _very common occurrence_ with generative fill. I was given an error that I breached their guideline because I used it to remove a coffee cup. I moved the coffee cup a little to the right and then it worked. Would that be a charge?
And you know-
if there's no practical way to do that without invoking a micro-transaction system, within a subscription, into a professionals creative work-flow of all things
-then maybe I dunno
-you might want to rethink the feature in-general?
Most defenses to this would be: _"Well it costs Adobe money."_ which is valid... (Personal opinion aside that siding with a "profit comes first argument" for a company that made... let me check... *5 Billion Dollars* last year is insane and sympathetically void when it comes to taking the argument seriously. Sorry brain tangent.)
I'd imagine a better solution, would be to find a solution: That didn't hit Adobe's bottom-line to the point they have to make a separate confusing credit system? Especially when you have competition that figured out how to do the same thing locally?
I'm sorta at a loss here. The answer to all this is that *I don't feel incentivized to use the feature anymore.*
I just listened to this guys video (great job btw.) try and explain a monetary system that somehow resets each month, but also maybe is going to be a subscription...
Why are we doing this in the first place again? I get that it's the cloud and they have to process it- but what was the entire point of this feature again? It was for me to use it right?
Because as of now, with the way the feature works and how all this is implemented:
This seems to be a lot of work on their part to create a feature that I will probably not use much of.
@@boectrum That's what you already pay for. CC is expensive enough as-is. Charging more money for their generative fill is just scamming customers.
@@ImNotQualifiedToSayThisBut
A thousand a month for CC.
That is about 33 uses per day, every day for a single month. (30 days).
I don't think that many (or even any) users would hit that limit.
If you seriously hit that limit you might as well just not use CC anymore because all that is doing the work for you is the AI itself.
Generative fill is useful but its not always accurate and 90% of its results are trash, it’s insane to start charging extra, knowing that it takes multiple attempts to get something you “want” and they’re just being greedy, also their neural filters are substandard, photoshop needs to stick to what they do best and refine before they try to jump on the cashcow expecting people will pay… not gona happen for me.
I completely agree! Adobe could even be more effective on creating a better platform between the designer and clients. It would make more sense to pay for.
@@LucianoRMRibeiro Adobe also owned Behance, you can find jobs and client there
This is so true it just feels like it’s something they’re doing to milk the consumer dry.
the neural filters are a joke so far. maybe when they get them working will will have to pay a credit per instance. i was excited that adobe was incorporating this into photoshop so i didnt have to jump around all the other web based AI apps but looking elsewhere is now again something that i need to look at.
ok just for fun a conspiracy theory: adobe tunes the results for GF to be less that effective forcing the user to generate 3-4 times to get a decent result making them more money laughing all the way to the bank.
I really hope other companies come into the PS market.
Like affinity?
@@caperdoodle sadly affinity is missing alot of tools, for example it still doesnt have auto select of objects/ subjects, eventhough algorithms, pretrained for exactly that are freely available , it has not anything even close to the neural filters and not a single ai feature
besides that if you just wanna do photoediting by hand it is good but you will need more time for alot of things
@caperdoodle Affinity is an amazing suite. It is even better than Photoshop in many regards but what it is completely missing is any kind of AI assisted filters or tools. Not a big deal depending on the task but for people who want to heavily alter images or create new art, this is a huge drawback.
But to be fair, Affinity is also vastly cheaper than Photoshop and training good neural networks is (for now at least) increadibly expensive
make one with ai
@andresbonilla1446do you really kiss Adobe’s butt on every comment that criticizes them?
This is straight outrageous. Especially for subscribers and professionals.
And yet, they'll bend over and take it. When Adobe came with the Creative Suite subscription they went along. Not Adobe has them by the balls
@@foljs5858 True
We professionals make money from it, as long as it is not outrageous is ok.
If you're a "professional" relying on 500 AI created fills each month, you're using a heck of a crutch and should probably just install Stable Diffusion locally instead. And if your income relies on it, the fees for a couple more tokens can be expensed.
Subscribers get quite a few tokens.
@@neirad537ok but I’m already paying to use the software, now i have to pay just use the software’s features?
This is ABSOLUTE insanity …. I’m already paying monthly. I need to find another editing software
Argh Matey
Why? Did you watch the video?
This is a weird comment. You don't have to use the Generative Fill feature and another editing software will not have that feature so I am not understanding your point.
@@greenbean2222It doesn't work in the ☠️ versions I've used.

LOL your comment is so true.
I'm just happy to know that I have 1,000 credits per month! I didn't even know that until I watched this video. I've been using Photoshop since the 90s and now pay monthly for the entire suite. Your videos are very very helpful. I don't have a lot of spare time, so watching only the very best is how I go. Thank you.
Generative Fill has been very helpful, and I've been using it to great effect... but yeah, I'll just keep using Stable Diffusion. At least I don't have to deal with the stupid censor that only ever false hits and I get to use whatever models I want.
Edit: For anyone interested in this, in the 27 minutes since I posted my comment, I have got generative fill and expand working in my Stable Diffusion with ControlNet. Just search for that as keywords and you will find a result. Super easy and the results are good, depending on your model and settings.
I believe FireFly is the most powerful right now, kindlt correct me if I am wrong.
@@shriefallam8866midjorney
@@shriefallam8866 nah, Firefly is way behind. Midjourney is the most advanced AI image generator currently. But Adobe implemented their AI into Photoshop, so it's very quick and easy to use.

A predatory company will always be a predatory company.
STABLE DIFFUSION is almost as good as generative tool. You just need GPU with 12GB+ VRAM.
Open source is keeping the world alive
Preach!
Adobe is just petty to make a statement.
Which is fine, you don't have to use only Adobe products
@@neirad537 No, that is not fine. When stable diffusion launched, everyone went haywire about "people's art being used to train the modes"(which was false).
And here now ADOBE used the whole adobe stocks content(people upload there to earn royalty) and everyone is happy.
That's nothing but deception and hypocrisy.
and before you say adobe stock contributors getting extra coins, stable diffusion is literally open source, they trained models at their own expense and open sourced it. And adobe used your own images to train and now charging you money.. PREDATORS
You can even use lowvram mode if you have less than 8gb so it also uses your cpu for it as much as i know and u sstill get the exact same result.
Would rather a queue system where you pay to skip this queue instead of charging for each generation
Thanks for the heads up. Will have to start using it sparingly after Nov 1.
Thank for the video, a wealth of info!!
To get the desired result, multiple generative attempts are applied to a single photo. Guess we have to do it manually the old way

The big question is - how much slower will it be when the credits run out?
If credits worn out, maybe we can't use the ai like another ai imaging site

I use Generative Fill to remove things in images not make AI images. I use Stable Defusion for that. It doesn't cost anything.
Me too. Removing stuff is awesome with GF.
Stable Defusion? is that app or what ?
explain how do you use this stable diffusion
Adobe: Photoshop will be a service from now, even though there is no technical reason for it. Even though everything runs locally, we just want you to pay us every month forever.
Also adobe: Now that there is an actual technical reason for Photoshop to be a service and can't run locally, we want you to pay us extra.
There is a lot of criticism when using Adobe generative fill on the forums about editing images that the cloud censors, even though the image is safe for work.. i.e. example expanding the crop of a shot which includes girl in a bikini, or leotard !! I hope that Abode has a more grown up view of this matter in the future !!
@john3Lee I run into the generative fill censorship quite a bit. I do photography for a dance company and during rehearsals, it is fairly common for dancers to wear leotards, tee-shirts or sometimes sports bras. Even if they are wearing sweatpants or shorts with the leotard, the AI thinks they are topless!
I get warnings when I'm taking highlights out of dragonfly eyes. ???????WTF.
@@photoboyjet I really hope they address this problem very soon !
Put a . in the text box it helps overcome
I got this when using gen expand on parquet flooring. Must have been all that sexy grain on the wood..? 😂
Paying for a 1 megapixel fill, when it often gives unusable results seems mean at the least. I love photoshop, but I will be open to suggestions for alternatives if they are going to make you pay to buy the software on subscription and then pay again to use a feature.
Stable diffusion + photoshop plugin.
Do you know if the content-aware fill function (that was available before generative AI became popular) still will be available without costing credits?
It's just a matter of time now until we get a free local plugin for photoshop that uses stable diffusion.
Sick and tired of these companies chargibg for everything and squeezing money from their costumers without any shame at all. We have to stop this

That's right! Companies should give everything away for free with no profit-motive at all!
Why don't you do that? Show them how it's done?
@@bjornskividsI hope you understand the difference between charging reasonable price for reasonable product. And between beeing greedy and using any available way to make more money with zero respect for current or potential customers. Companies have their right to make money if they are doing it fair. And if not, we really have to stop this.
Will credits roll over if you don't use them all in a month? Or do they just reset?
Thank you ♥
I just ask myself if we will be charged credits correctly because we don’t know how they will calculate how much it “cost” for processing your content. Maybe they can let you know in advance how many credits it will take and then let you decide if you want to apply your credits. I also ask myself what other features will be moved for Cloud or AI processing in the future so you would have to pay even more for things you already had available.
With this new version of Photoshop I think to be banned to use generative fill because when I use it doesn’t work and appears an error message that say “you can’t use this feature due a violation use” but I used the generative fill just before the update
Good thing I learned this now than later
If you have multiple subscriptions to Adobe, are the credits added together? (ie: CreativeCloud + Stock image?)
If you really used Generative Fill you know how many mediocre results it'll generate while giving few amazing ones. Now Adobe says it's ready with a credit plan. But only difference is now you have to pay for those mediocre results. If you try to remove 5 objects in a single photo, you might ended up losing 5 credit or 20 credits or more! imagine how many photos per month you can edit using this without paying more than the subscription fee. Hope whoever contribute to introduce this pricing plan will suffer a worse fate that they cannot escape using the millions of money they collected 🤬
I just tried this on a bunch of past problems/scenarios I'd love for it to work. So far all I get is the "Artificial" part and not the intelligence. Pretty much hot garbage for now, not even worth messing around with. I have yet to get a result I can work with and that doesn't make the situation worse. But then I have to do stuff like remove sweat stains from location shoots, tape from the bottoms of "free rental" shoes, texture from poorly prepped garments and on and on. I do not have to add a mountain to more mountains or change the sky out. Even trying their opening tutorial and changing the little cottage out, all the results look like they came out of Minecraft. Not ready for release much less for profit.
anyways, this channel is one of the GOAT's for sure
As an apprentice I learned to take information from a variety of sources. Still applies as each time I hear comments on generative fill, there is some different / additional infromation. 😎
i think you should also cover the happening inside stable diffusion- an opensource generative AI.
Nice! Now that they have already used all of our compositions to improve their Generative Fill AI they're now taking it away and want us to pay for it. It's not like I'm paying a ton for my subscription already right...
Classic Adobe.
Thank you but I'm not paying more.
Are credits going to be used every time generative fill is tried? Or, only when the generated result is actually used in the image? If it is the former, I'm not sure I'm excited about this generative fill in PS anymore.
How is this man so calm. I'm livid, for some reason 😅
Adobe has a monopoly, we need competition, there is no way local rendering is not possible given how powerful GPUs have become.
Servers arent just used for rendering, but for going through bilions of stock photos and actually giving you the result you need. You could probably do that on your home pc, at around 30 minutes per generation
I thought the point of SaaS is you pay each month to use the service. Not pay each month... then pay again. I hate adobe.
I teach design at a high school where we utilize the district's educational subscription giving all of my students free subscriptions to the entire Adobe suite. Curious how the credits would work in this case.
Thx for this video, Unmesh! My only question left is: how or where can I see, how much credits I have left in the month?
Adobe is getting too big when they start charging for everything. You’d think with the high numbers of subscribers they have (52x”millions”) it be well enough to cover their new toy. Here’s to hoping better programs come to compete against adobe
Hopefully thier competitors will just use open source Stable diffusion in there models for free to be ran locally on device.
I'm fine with this in theory, after all it does add a large infrastructure cost to Adobe, however I feel there's some things that need some clarification from Adobe.
- When credits run out, and you're dumped at the back of the render queue, how much slower will generations be, and is this even quantifiable?
- Will the content filter be relaxed or removed? I'm a fully grown professional adult, and the other day I couldn't even expand an image of a box of chocolate doughnuts, lord only knows what it thought the photo was of!
- Can we PLEASE have a decent resolution for these generations. Photoshop is a professional tool, let's get some professional quality resolutions out of it.
It does cost them to run gpus, but we pay them way fucking more than it costs lmao. They charged an arm and a leg for their services, what are they using that money for? Don't excuse greed from a company that makes billions like Adobe
these are the real questions here.
Thank you so much for all you do . Adobe spark used to have collage maker and I do use it almost everyday for my small business but now it is gone . I don’t see it on adobe express . What other option to make fast and easy collage beside using photoshop . Thank you so much

I’m gonna be fine with 250/month but I am a little hobbyist user and can see many, many users are going to be running out of 1,000/month even very easily. Thankfully, I have Stable Diffusion for stuff like gen. expand and the more heavyweight kind of AI work. I bet Luminar is watching this development with *great* interest, as they are launching their gen fill/erase whatever very soon I believe..?
let's say you have to retouch a eshop shooting, you're screwed
I kind of get it but usually you need to do it so many times to get a good result with generative fill that i can see us runinnig out of credits very fast
Exactly, not to mention the censorship Adobe uses which may hide potentially useful results.
Why is Contextual Taskbar not available for my photoshop under the Window drop down menu? How can I find it or make it active or available? Thank you.
I just checked the content credentials on one of my projects using another ai platform, but adobe says i used firefly? are they going to claim all ai platforms as their own?
Ok so I'm confused. If we go over our allotted " credit " does it cost us or just slows down ?? Everytime adobe updates it kills my computer a little more each time so I can't afford any slower performance
1) Don't update adobe apps unless absolutely necessary, they break with updates so often it's a joke on us to be paying for it.
2) the Firefly/Generative stuff happens on the cloud so after you run out of credits it will shunt you to a slower speed generation queue. E.g. normal generative fill might take 30s, this might take 4 mins. But it should not show your PC down.
Thank you for the reply, much appreciated
I will never feel bad for pirating Adobe products
So, will the Beta Version use credits after it goes live ?
So basically when you download the photoshop version 25.0, adobe starts tracking your credits? May I ask how can you see how much credits you still have, and where it this tracked?
Not a fan of that solution. I used to use 3D Studio MAX. Rendering was all done locally. I find it hard to believe that Gen Fill can't also be done locally, it's far less intensive than my old late 90's NT4 system rendering mapped particle emitters. If this takes off, then Autodesk may get the idea to charge you for rendering your CGI.
Not a good outlook at all.
By that time Blender will have overtaken Autodesk Maya and Max. It's thanks to Blender that Autodesk somehow started to do stuff for their customers and it will be Blender that will keep them in line.
@@nelyrions1838 I remember Blender was kinda of scoffed at, back in the day. Poor mans modeller. It's incredible today, absolutely gobsmacked at what they've done with it. So with that, I have to agree with you.
LOLLL, fantastic. I love paying more and more for endless subscriptions😍😍😍
Will it be 1 credit per selection? Or per generation? Is it gna cost me a credit everytime it generates some janky ass hand that is unusable? Or when you try to remove a person and it instead replaces with some alien/human hybrid instead.
One per generation, i.e. three options for a single credit.
There are already some Stable Diffusion plugins for PS, is there any that can be used as Generative Fill?
Credits ABSOLUTELY should roll over month to month. You pay for it so they should let you keep it
Extreme computing power is not really needed to generate the fills, there should be the option to use it locally even if it is slower or requires an improved GPU, the fact that this alternative is not there is because Adobe wants to scam us, it always finds a way to steal more money
What if I stick to the Beta version, will it still be unlimited?
Thank you 🙏
They need to bring it up in it's own dialog box for when generating and then just charge the credit when you find one that's acceptable and apply it. I'll go through the credits the photography package gets me within a week. Also, I may use it on multiple areas in one image, so I could easily be using 10 or more credits for one photo. Other AI products charge the credit when you export the file. There has to be a way to make something along those lines work.
I use dozens and dozens of generations for hi-rez out-cropping; I would not be surprised if I reach 100 in at least one of the images at this point; and yes, it takes a heckufa a lot of time waiting for the cloud.
I'm not sure how it will affect the credits, but if you're using it on lots of areas of one image; if you select multiples things you want to generate at once (holding shift) then click generate it will do them all at once as one generation. I guess it depends on what you want in those areas though
@@notme5744 GF uses the encompassing rectangle for all selected areas - if that rectangle is larger then the 1024x1024 pixels provided by the AI, PS will resize with loss of sharpness. Incidentally, if the rectangle is only 512x512 pixels, sharpness of the rendered results is improved. Smaller generations result in better quality.
@@notme5744 yes but I've found the more you select, the less it generates details. As if theres some data limit on what it generates.

Don't recall receiving anything from Adobe regarding the "credits" for use ?
The generative fill maaaaybe I can understand them charging for as it uses their machine power, but the generative recolour is a joke. Its illustrator! Its just shifting colours. That can be done loacally 😆
Yeah it is pretty dumb and I don't even use it. It sounds like a gimmick than an actual feature that compels me to use it.
This is just greed. I love the software package but I pay a lot each month already, damned if I’ll give them a penny more. It was fun to play with, nothing more. Back to using editing skills if I must. Thanks for the tip off.
Is there a way to check your generative requests? For example is there a tool or window that will show you "You have used Generative Fill 37 times this month." ?
Wait so, If I'm on that photography plan and I run out of credits, which would be 250 per month(subscribed before november 1 2023), I'd still be able to use generative fill with unlimited use, it'll just be slower?? 4:37
You have no longer access issues how to fix hy
Jack Sparrow versions doesn't work with generative fill.
Isn't it odd though, that the expectation is for users of generative fill will need to pay when it is Adobe who should be 'paying' as they are efefctively adding to the AI resource-repository everytime the Generative Fill function is used? AI requires huge volumes of complaritive imagery to build upon and reference from/to to generate anything. This is of course a little of a sweeping generalisation, but a point worth discussion?
Is the generation now unlimited or limited? I am very sad if it is with an additional balance
Why can't I use my own GPU to run generative fill? Forcing me to pay extra for something I already own is infuriating.
Reminds me in the beginning of cellular phones we used to pay for each text message, and for each call by the minute. Nowadays it's unlimited. and so will be Ai in the future. because its a new technology they take advantage and capitalize on it
Credits should roll over forever and never expire. 👍 and send this as feedback to Adobe (everyone plz who reads this consider doing so)
Text effects should cost 0 credits. Come on its text, also re color
I am not able to get the generative option after updating …after selecting on the photo I am unable to use the generative option & a deselect option is being shown instead ,what to do ? Please suggest
Why? Soon Adobe may start charging for each filter. They can increase the price monthly for the entire Adobe Photoshop, but not just for "Generative." The next step might be them requiring payment for 3D or exporting to PNG format.
total rip off. good thing there are tons of other free AI apps better than adobe.
I'd like a version to opt out of even having this AI.
Can I still sell pictures to my cliënts, that have generative fill used in the images?
any idea why do I get different color/tones when I generate something?
