    This is really good. I'm dealing with a recent complicated medical diagnosis (borderline ovarian serous tumor which has been classified as an ovarian cancer) and losing confidence in multiple doctors I've been seeing including the doctor who did my surgery. It's quite distressing. I am reassured by this video that it is not all in my head. I agree it is super important to find a doctor that you have confidence in, or you won't want to go forward with what they are suggesting. At least that is what I have been experiencing. Part of it is fear but part of it is definitely lack of confidence in my current doctors. I wish it was easier to find a good doctor, though. Dr's where I live in the U.S. are booked out for months and a lot of the older more experienced doctors are retiring. Plus I've experienced doctors being offended/uncooperative about my wanting a second opinion or referral. Thank you so much for talking about this important topic! You guys are amazing!

      They chose this job for the prestige and the money. They don’t give a shit about trying to treat your health issues; and if they do try to “help” they are all wiling to try ONCE only.
      General practitioners are the WORSE. They can only deal with regular check-ups and vaccines. Useless.

    Great video, thanks for sharing. I was in a serious multi-vehicle accident last fall. My vehicle was rear-ended and sent into oncoming traffic. After my L5 compression fracture healed, I was referred to an orthopedic doctor to address hip pain. The first doctor didn't seem to take me seriously and basically said it will go away on its own. I'm now seeing another doctor, Orthopedic Surgeon, who realizes its really affecting me and not going away. I'll find out the MRI results soon. Overall, I think its great to get a second opinion, especially when you're quality of life is being affected.

    Hi Doc's, thanks for the great video! We had a Doctor get very disgruntled at us wanting a second opinion for our son. It really was upsetting to us. Needless to say, we walked away. It's odd how we thought we had good communication with him. I guess it was good as long as we didn't bring anything in to question that he was doing. Not my kind of Doctor! I want to add that sometimes a second opinion is needed after surgery. I wrote to you after your video on sticky knees after surgery. Unfortunately I had a lot of things go wrong after my surgery: massive swelling, sutures that didn't dissolve, and a tear on my knee cap which prevented the normal rehab. I still have swelling 2 years and 4 months later. My doctor kept saying this was going to be a longer healing process. Now he's pretty much insinuated my discoloration, massive scar, daily up and down swelling and lack of range of motion is the way it will be. That's a hard pill to swallow after having knee replacement at 52. I could move better before my surgery and now something as simple as going to the ladies room is complicated if I don't have safety bars. I know my doctor was as devastated as me after having great surgeon successes for over 30 plus years. I feel I didn't received the right guidance after so many complications. My surgical leg now looks like I have a knock knee and it's a lot bigger than my other leg. I will tell anyone if your rehab and healing isn't going as well as all of the information you received initially; start researching information for another opinion. I almost hate to say this but I now feel like my doctor strung me along and now I don't have a lot of options. I appreciate you both for always spreading knowledge.

      Hi Tosca. We are so sorry to hear that you are having such a difficult time for so long. I wanted a second opinion when the first surgeon wanted to TKA both knees at the same time which he said would involve several weeks in a rehab facility as I live alone. I went with the more conservative approach to do the worst knee first to see how long the other one lasts before needing surgery. That worked well for me.

    About to have a new knee next Wednesday and the videos have helped. I loved my Dr and she asked her boss for an opinion and he decided to do the op. I’m not that happy the last professor that worked on my knee didn’t care about the ascetics. I’ve asked him to do a subcuticular suture and he agreed. I’m terrified of the spinal anaesthetic. He’s seen the X-ray but as I know X-rays don’t show the muscles and ligaments. He hardly spoke to me instead discussing/arguing with his colleague.

  • @carriehollyland3596

    I've been dealing with an issues in a thumb/wrist for over 2 years now that stemmed from a biking injury.
    But because the tears I have r only partial the doc I had been seeing for the past two years only wanted to do injections and bracing, and only this year decided to send me to pt.
    However the injections r not really working, and I always end up with a bad injection flare for the first 2-3 days of the injection.
    And pt helped a small bit in certain areas, but have now hit a wall and is not getting better.
    And honestly it feels like it is now just getting worse again.
    It's effecting my home/hobby life, work life, and even am waking up in the middle of the night from the pain.
    I asked like 3 times before he finally agreed to redo the MRI and x-ray.
    And the MRI wasn't ordered right.
    And I was getting mixed answers about what the MRI was showing.
    But my doc that I've been seeing still doesn't want to do anything surgically.
    I finally reached out for a second opinion who I just recently saw their pa for and he gave me a new brace, re-did the x-ray and agrees that there is no point to the injections any more, wants me to continue with the pt for now, and is referring me to the surgeon to discuss surgery.
    I do still go back to see the doc I had been seeing for the past 2 years later today.
    That doc's pa was the one that suggested, as well as my PT, about getting a second opinion.
    My PT said that doc was kind of known for sitting on thing for a while before doing surgery.
    And thought had they just done the surgery in the first place that I may not be where I am at today.
    Honestly I am a bit nervous about talking to my doc (the one I have been seeing) today about the fact that I reached out for a second opinion and spoke with a different doc.
    Especially being that the docs r from different hospital companies.
    Upmc and geisinger.
    So far from the all imaging that I have had done, I have multiple partial tendon and ligament tears, with boney avulsions, tenosynovitis, and now psuedo-gout setting in.
    The thumb and wrist have also become very very weak, and limited range of motion, the one joint is actually starting to bend in the opposite way, and there is so so much damn pain.
    Doing the most simple of things have become extremely difficult or even impossible.

    Years ago my mother's best friend had a GI specialist who was treating her crone's disease for several years and she became very frail looking and feeling weak as time went by. The doctor refused to change her treatment or introduce new medication. My mom talked her into getting a second opinion. We live in a small town so my mom wanted her to travel and be seen by a specialist at Cleveland Clinic. Of course my mom's friend had to get a referral from her current specialist. He told her that he would give her the referral for the second opinion but if she follows through with it he will release her as his patient and she will need to find another doctor. I've also heard other people talk about having this same problem. I would think a confident, caring doctor, specialist or surgeon would welcome a second opinion especially in complex cases when patients are not responding well to treatment. Have you ever heard of such a thing? Why do some doctors, etc get upset when asked for a referral for a second opinion?

I left the office with no second opinion. So what do i ask, do I give them my results from first doctor? What if they call the doctor and ask, how do I know I am not getting a real second opinion and not just a conversation he may have had with my first doctor about my condition?

    What an amusing side note on "socialized medicine" not allowing a second opinion. It's hard to get a first opinion when you don't have health insurance. I guess Dr. Brad doesn't care about those people though because they can't pay.

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  4 года назад +1

      Hi UnderdogTactics. I think the point was misunderstood. In socialized medicine, if you do not require a second opinion, you usually should not get one. If people are paying out of their pocket, they can get as many opinions as they want. We definitely care about providing care to everyone - thankfully that is part of the backbone of our healthcare system here in Canada We believe everyone deserves care. Sorry for the confusion. But thanks for watching.

    • @openmindist
      @openmindist 4 года назад

      I was also going to say Dr Brad needs to learn more about our broken system and why so many people are suffering and dying in this country BECAUSE of private insurance. Insurance companies don't provide any medical care but they sure do profit from our private system. Never met a doctor that liked having to hire people on his/her payroll just to argue with insurance companies that don't want to pay. Let's get rid of insurance companies and let the doctors decide what care their patients need not a bureaucrat.

    Hi Doctors,
    I had a TLKR on 8/27. I have been back to my surgeon who, quite frankly, is not stellar with follow up/aftercare. I have pain behind the knee and was told I have popiteal tendinitis. They gave me a shot, which didn't work. I have been several times to this Dr and nowI want a second opinion . He is pretty cavalier relative to my concerns. I would go to a different group to avoid a conflict of interest. Will a new surgeon be ok with checking surgery from another colleague? I have no confidence in my current surgeon.

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  2 года назад +1

      Hi Tish. Sorry to hear that. Yes a second opinion is usually ok. Being only 4 months out there is still hope that this will get better with time but that tendon is in the joint and can be irritated by the back of the tibial tray. It is not uncommon. Best of luck. Hello, my wife got has been in the hospital for 4 days. A Specialist and a surgeon made some test. They titled her cause of pain "adrenal hemorrhage". They did ine last test ct -scan to compare from thee old picture. Once the result came in, the doctor had told the nurse to discharge my wife without no answers of the last test. The nurse requested for my wife ro stay another night because she has seen her in lots lf pain. Are we able to request a new doctor? And ask if they can to a MRI test and get a second opinion.

However, I am growing uncomfortable about my neurologist, who seems to question my Stage 4 Cirrhosis diagnosis. 🤦 My question is, do I need to actually ask him for a 2nd opinion, or can I ask my primary for one? 🤷

      Hi Casey. Every health care system is different but your primary care should be able to arrange a second opinion. Sometimes patients would feel uncomfortable about telling their doc they want a second opinion. Is it possible to have a discussion with your neurologist and explain your concerns? Best of luck to you and so sorry to hear about your stage 4 diagnosis. Thanks for watching, subscribing and sharing with someone if you did.

    Love ur videos , but with all due respect , I don’t agree with the comment “if your real estate agent lives in an RV .......“
    Unless you meant he/she is living in an RV after years of being in the business .
    I know excellent auto mechanics that always drive junk cars and talented gardners
    That have their yard undone.
    I am a realtor and as a beginner I was so poor . I would literally fantasize about one day being able to afford a soda from a fast food restaurant .
    Every professional had to start somewhere . Unless u have wealthy parents or wealthy someone that can buy u a business that’s already thriving.
    It’s like saying don’t go to that certain doctor because you are his first patient ever and he lives in a RV because he has student debt to pay off .
    Beginners always have superiors above them with years of experience in the field that shadow them to make sure they are doing things right .
    So living in an RV DOESNT determine you don’t know what you’re doing . As a matter of fact the poorer agents work harder for their clients thru their superiors . I always support beginners .
    Just saying .

    Hi 👋... I’ve got a question for you,2.. I’m a 50 yr woman. I’m a warehouse worker. My knee gave out and I fell down and couldn’t get back up... I went to a patient first, got a X-ray and then was told to see a Surgeon.. saw surgeon got a MRI... I have a rip in the meniscus, a tear in the ACL and arthritis of the knee. Also doing PT 3 times a week. My question is... am I too young for surgery? Also I had my knee drained and a cortisone shot.. didn’t done jack “&$).. Now he wants to give me a Gel injection, ?

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  4 года назад

      Hi Mary. So are you asking if you are too young for a total knee replacement? We suspect the surgeon said you have too much arthritis to consider arthroscopy. Ideally all patients should wait as long as possible to get a tkr. Considering an injection of hyaluronic acid is also a good idea to try and help reduce the pain. They do not work for everyone but are often successful. Hope that helps. Good luck and thanks for watching

    Hi Docs, just a question is jogging really that bad for your knees? I mean does it cause significant wear and tear on them, as opposed to someone who has never been a jogger? I am just curious because I really like jogging, and I need to loose some weight, but I don't want to do it if it puts me at high risk for knee issues. Thanks.

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  4 года назад +1

      Hi Betty. If running hurts, then you probably shouldn't do it. It is still a choice though. There are lots of runners who do not have arthritis and many patients who have arthritis who don't run. It's like Forrest Gump. Some people just like to run and if it is your thing, run. If you do however have arthritis and have pain, running will likely make your knees sore and could accelerate your deterioration however it is very difficult to predict how much this impacts the rate of decline. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and for subscribing if you did.

    “How many of these do you do in a year?”. If the answer is “one or two” RUN. For the love of god, run. ALWAYS get a second opinion. Unless you have a bone sticking out your tibia? That just sounds like a birth defect 😄. I would disagree with the personality part of it. If you have the skill set and knowledge sign me up. And I would encourage anyone else to do the same. I will gladly humour poor bedside manners and buy in to the god complex if it meant getting my life back.

      Mom2Boys I think the number of procedures a doctor has done needs to be taken in context. When I had my knee surgeries my doctor had only done that same surgery 6 times in his career because it's a rare surgery to do. In that case 6 was a lot, even though it doesn't sound like it. I should say the surgeries went fantastic with quick recovery!

    • @mom2boys170
      @mom2boys170 4 года назад

      TheMissMaggs my procedure was somewhat rare, my physiotherapist had never even heard of it. But I would still absolutely advocate for a very experienced surgeon. Even the rarest of surgeries have doctors that have taken a special interest. Unfortunately my second opinion came too late, which was the 30+ a year guy. Sounds like yours worked out, which is great!Unfortunately mine did not. I learned my lesson the hard way and wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

      Hi sergus. So if you have a painful and swollen skin tag that is very painful and not getting better you should be assessed by a professional. Often if you can soften your stools and reduce the amount that you need to wipe it will provide time for the tissue to heal. Best of luck to you. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did.

    Was wondering if I should get another opinion , I bleed out my bum every month and get ovulation discharge out of there too , I get really bad pains on my left ovary ,my laparoscopy didn’t come back with anything and my colonoscopy came back with constipation despite me having 2 litres of laxatives for prep . The walk in centre thinks it’s endometriosis and when I went to gyne they just said it was because I’m fat . I’m overweight but I had these problems worse being smaller . What would you do ? My gyne put the coil in wrong the first time he inserted it into my cervix incorrectly

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  4 года назад

      Hi Katie. We feel that second opinions are always a reasonable consideration if you have persistent problems despite being assessed. If you have regular bleeding, that is not normal and should be diagnoses. It could be something benign but you want to be sure. It is unlikely that you would have ovulation discharge out of your bum as they are not connected in that way unless you mean you have some sort of discharge that is in sequence with your cycle. Best to get reassessed. Wishing you luck in your journey. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did.
