Hi Robbie, Love your Nillicoote vids. About a month ago my brother and i had a fish at Rye Pier. My bro loves fishing but never seems to have any luck. Anyway, this day while everyone were catching weeny pinkies and banjos, my brother hooked and landed a 36cm KG whiting. Couldn't have been happier for him to finally get rewarded with a good fish.😂👍😁
Hiya rob What a pleasure to see you out with your extended family.. and how cool the AMATEUR produced the goods first lol..and a silver perch congratulations.. Great video mate and well done you guys Thank you 😎🎣
LOL. I was talking to my son the other day about fishing with someone else. I outfished them by a lot to none. As I said to my son, "Its not a competition, but I am winning!" 🤣🤣 Your comment tonight was spot on the money!
We used to catch the silver perch looking things around boundary bend NW Victoria on the Murray which locals called grunters...they definitely made a funny noise out the water.
Funny thing about Silver Perch, they are not related to Golden Perch. They ARE however, as noted, related to the Grunters, the Sooty, Barcoo and Coal grunter are more closely related, although it does occupy the oly slot in the genus Bidyanus, with its species being also bidyanus.
Thanks for another great video Robbie! Re the little cod, that happened to us a few times too: I believe some - particularly the very little ones - go into a state of shock. We've found that holding them in the water with one hand and pushing water through the gills with the other helps them to recover and swim away soon after.
Good session and great to see all the family members out fishing, even if the bro wasn't there! If I go fishing with ANY of my 5 siblings, it is ALWAYS a competition, no-one says anything, it just is! Very annoyingly, one of my sisters, who only ever fishes once a year, nearly always does better than me ☹Don't get it, no skill, it must be pheremones 😎
What are you doing allowing a woman to go fishing with you? Fool! Never allow them closer to the fish than preparing them in the kitchen! They will ALWAYS outfish you and then want to go home, complaining it is too easy! Ask Robbie how Holly is doing...

Hi Mike, baitcasters are great for casting heavy lures, but not great for light lures or bait fishing. When lure casting heavy for lures they are so much more accurate than spinning reels
Mike, it depends on your use and intended style of fishing. In the cast - for long casts where accuracy does not matter much, a spinning rod is preferable as the line pulls freely off the opened spool face. Light baits especially require this as a baitcaster requires the weight of the bait to keep the reel rotating through the cast. However, for accuracy or control of, as Robbie noted, heavy lures, the Baitcaster is much better. On the strike - the spinning rod will always give much more play to the fish due to the fact that the line is slung under the rod, so as the rod bends, the line drops away slightly between the guides, and this slack line can be taken by a tight lurking fish into its cover. I tight cover, especially timvber, the immediate uptake of the baitcaster and lack of slack is preferred for hard hitters like cod or Yebblies, not so much for soft mouthed bait takers like carp. In the fight - A baitcaster is much more immediate and has better control, a spinning rod is more forgiving in its play to lunging fish. Due to the aforementioned line sag. Whichever rod you choose - String it with appropriately weight rated line, do not overstring it. That is a good way to break a rod. You will not get bigger fish, just a smaller rod in the end.
Richard and Robbie went for a fish, For Richie, Robbie had just one wish. That he could catch a nice Yella Belly Not a big carp, they are too smelly. The rod bends, "A legal sized Yella!" The fight ends "That's just the right fella!" Onto the ice, "That'll taste nice, With just a little butter and spice." Then onto the phone, to silence those doubters, The family who would otherwise go withouters If not for Robbie's superior skill Whose esky with fish, he will fill 🤣🤣🤣 From one bankside poet to another!
Any fish'o that's worth the bait knows ya don't needs a boat to catch fish. I spent many years beach fishing & not very often the boating m8's out fished me. Although when I moved up to the Murray River area I brought a tinny & that definitely was a difference between 4 Cod & 8 Cod 😅😅

Do you think there's merit to dispatching them (with the lord thy gubment's approval of course, comrade) rather than reintroducing them and their weird looking lumps? Do you know what they are? That one couldn't even swim straight.
Hey mate, I have not seen the photos but the idea of dispatching them certainly has merit, but only if you know what you're doing. I think that cod was just very very tense having just been caught. I suspect that it would have loosened up once it realised it was free.
