I did a comp many years ago, the guy next to me was catching 70% more than me, we had almost an identical setup and couldn’t work it out why as we were so close and no change in water features He was using this method with an extra couple of weights. It works
As someone relatively new to match fishing find these masterclass vids so good, well explained and find they work really well on my local water when i put them into practice 👍
I have a fishery lake in the Netherlands. But I have mirror and regular carps in it. No F1’s. It’s hard too get those fellows on the shallow water . So I’m gonna try this with fishing just above the bottom. Nice tips see if it will work on the other carps 👍
Love it. Not from there. When i watched you attach, then feed out the black base of the pole, and continue feeding it out for seemingly minutes i had to laugh. Good job, keep it up. 8:59
Steve absolutely awesome video mate as always i couldn't agree more with you ,i always watched you on From the waters edge awesome channel keep up the goos work It's very much appreciated have a Great 2024
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Nice to hear you enjoy content form both channels. All the best for 2024. Regards, Steve.
This rig is designed to fish in the upper layers, your rig needs to be the depth you wish to fish. In 4ft of water I would try fishing 2ft or less. Regards, Steve.
The lash was around 4" in the video when I started fishing , maybe it's a little deceiving in the edit. A short lash definitely helps, but as you mentioned overshotting its still best. Cheers Steve.
I always use this rig on venues it’s banned. No one checks my rig or bait etc. I’d tell them to do one if they did. I’m there to fish, why would I not use a method that’s effective
Hi Stephen, looks really effective this rig. Would it work down to around 3 feet if you keep a tight line? Im thunking about fish near the bottom. Thinking about corn skins. Great video, thanks for sharing. 👍
Great video, whole new concept for me to work with. Just wondering what catapult you were using there, it is an area in my fishing that I need to improve upon and the system you were using appeared to have quite a close grouping of free samples.
Hi Andrew, thanks for leaving a comment, it's certainly worth ago. The catapult I'm using is a Matrix Slik Catapult, I dont use anything else these days, the feeding is so accurate with them. Cheers, Steve. Catapult: www.anglingdirect.co.uk/matrix-slik-fishing-catapults
Great vid very interesting. Some venues don't allow over shotted floats and as l see it there is no danger to fish welfare l don't understand it. I like your landing net head but can't figure out the brand. l really like the depth what is it please? Is it the Leeda concept 22''?
Most fisheries than ban methods like this are ‘traditional’ anglers moaning about them to the owners to get them banned. Then the same ‘traditional’ anglers fish 7 days a wk, buy a £4k pole to fish top 2 n chuck a gallon of maggs or casters in and ring there better angler mates up in middle of matches when it goes tits up and they dont know what to do lol
Thanks for the comment, the net head is supplied by the fishery however, I use the below for my personal fishing. Also a deep mesh net. Regards, Steve. www.anglingdirect.co.uk/matrix-carp-landing-net
Is that as effective with banded pellets, my local venue has a decent head of f1s, BUT it is stuffed with roach and rudd so all maggot approaches are sort of not an option.
Its so strange that in Europe such care is taken with carp, gently let back into the water. Here in Australia if we catch one of them it gets 6 over the head and left to rot for the foxes. Its actually in NSW fisheries to kindy dispose of carp and are listed as to be not released. Strange world.
It will depend on float size. Keep adding shot until the float just starts to sink, at that point add a further 2 number 8 shot. I hope that helps. Regards, Steve.
Brilliant run through. Its not my idea of fishing but i totally understand why you would do it if you fish matches. Not sure i agree with methods being banned if they dont do fish any harm. If fisheries want people to fish a certain way, or not fish one, then they need to change stocks and not fill the lakes with F1 and Ide. However thats what match fishing is about now so its a bit backwards of them.
Thanks for the kind comment. Im also a believer of less rules, allowing people to catch fish in a style they wish to use... as long as fish welfare is always first prority. Regards, Steve.
Hi Geoff, I use a standard shallow rig to find the fish, once I'm getting consistent bites at a certain depth, I switch to the overshotted rig. That's when the carnage starts. Cheers Steve.
It's a method that's almost unbeatable on certain commercials. Granted it's not for everyone however, if you want to win, this method is up there with the best. Regards, Steve.
Not saying you’re wrong but hard to believe you fished that standard rig as well as the overshotted one - confidence is everything and you clearly had none in it 😂
I tried my best for that 30 mins 🤣. This was just a very quick experiment however, over the years its become very clear how good overshotting really is. Cheers, Steve.
The float is far irrelevant, it keeps the line tight in tandem with the shotting. The lads at partridge lakes have taken this method and made an art form from it.
Perfect for Partridge, those tricky F1's can be hard to catch. I do agree, the float isn't entirely irrelevant as I explained in the video. Regards, Steve.
That's not fishing its a over stocked venue with permanently hungry fish. For gods sake it must be so boring. Its just like a hook a duck stall at a fairground
This rig does make it look easy! You do need a well stocked venue however, the fishing is far rom easy at times, many matches on this venue are won with under 30lb. Regards, Steve.
That's a shame to hear, some of the best things take time to explain. I hope you manage to find some spare time soon to avoid missing out. Regards, Steve.
I guess it's not for everyone however, its undeniable how much your catch rate increases. As you said, some venues don't allow this method and that's absolutely up to each fishery. Regards, Steve.
@gallywatson2096 No it's not your correct and that's just as bad if not worse? Just relentlessly piling in bait. Fisheries with onsite shops love it when a match angler needs 6 to 8 pints of casters to compete.
I did a comp many years ago, the guy next to me was catching 70% more than me, we had almost an identical setup and couldn’t work it out why as we were so close and no change in water features He was using this method with an extra couple of weights. It works
I've seen that many times Darren, the rig is so effecting at hooking fish. Regards, Steve.
Thanks Steve the clearest most intelligent explanation of a naughty method I’ve seen I’m certainly adding it to my rig box and it will be getting a go
Glad it helped, let me know how it goes for you. Regards, Steve
Thanks for explaining and demonstrating it so clearly.
No problem, I'm glad you found the video useful. Regards, Steve.

Glad you like them! It's brilliant that the Match Masterclass is helping you along the way. Thanks for leaving a comment. Regards, Steve.
Great tutorial Steve thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
Cheers Steve. Most venues I fish do not allow tapping, so I guess just slapping the rig more frequently
You do need to check fishery rules however, this rig will still work without tapping the pole tip. Regards, Steve.
Yes please John excellent prizes mate 🎉

I’ll definitely be trying that over shotted rig, great video 👍🏼🎣
You won't be disappointed, drop us another comment with your results. Regards, Steve.
Another awesome video great little tip about being able to remove the foat 👍

Hi steve great video can this method be used for Roach on light duro 3 elastic as I do fish more silver matches 🤞👍👍👍
Absolutely, this rig will work for most species as long as they are feeing with confidence. Regards, Steve.
Never care about fresh water fishing but it just funny to see rules keep adding just because they has skill issue
A real eye opener thx 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
If the lake is 4 ft deep how long do you make your rig ?? Or do you just fish and jig the upper layers ?
This rig is designed to fish in the upper layers, your rig needs to be the depth you wish to fish. In 4ft of water I would try fishing 2ft or less. Regards, Steve.
Thank you .
Shorten lash to 3 or 4 inches and will catch more, although overshooting is best
The lash was around 4" in the video when I started fishing , maybe it's a little deceiving in the edit. A short lash definitely helps, but as you mentioned overshotting its still best. Cheers Steve.
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
Great video and explanation:) What venue was this at ?
Thanks for the comment. This was filmed at Meadow Farm Fisheries. Regards, Steve.
Similar to the the rattler but the pole elastic is acting like a bolt rig & you got to keep feeding little & often
You fish little and often with the jigger rig too.
Wow!
How long is the line?
Some fisheries are a disgrace banning anything that catches a lot of fish but take your money and charge a fortune for bait .
One had a match won with 600lb in the summer
@@walkaz Bloody hell 600lbs 👍.
@@walkaz how long was the match and average size? I don't believe someone caught 200 plus 3lb fish in a match
I always use this rig on venues it’s banned. No one checks my rig or bait etc. I’d tell them to do one if they did. I’m there to fish, why would I not use a method that’s effective
if the fish were say 6ft deep do you set the float higher? I mean when the tip is touching the water, should you bait be just off the bottom?
You set the rig to the depth you wish to fish, if you wish to fish at 4ft deep your entire rig needs to be 4ft long. I hope this helps Regards, Steve.
Hi Stephen, looks really effective this rig. Would it work down to around 3 feet if you keep a tight line? Im thunking about fish near the bottom. Thinking about corn skins. Great video, thanks for sharing. 👍
Yes, absolutely. As long as you keep the rig tight, it will work effectively at any depth. Regards, Steve.

We can't release carp or redfin in Australia classed as invasive species
Is that top section bespoke to that pole? Or is it multipole compatible?
The top kit is bespoke to the Matrix MTX range. Regards, Steve.

Yes it is mate
What size float are you using please? Great vid mate
I prefer to use a 0.2 or 0.3 dibber style float. Cheers Steve.
Its so strange that in Europe such care is taken with carp, gently let back into the water. Here in Australia if we catch one of them it gets 6 over the head and left to rot for the foxes. Its actually in NSW fisheries to kindy dispose of carp and are listed as to be not released. Strange world.
Most fisheries in Europe insist on protective mats to unhook and handle the fish But then it’s a business and it’s proteins a fisheries investment
Surely Steve, this is identical to a jigger rig, but a slight difference with shot?
It's very similar to the Jigger. Overshotted rigs have a little more versatility as the float can be used to slow down the sink rate. Regards, Steve.
How many shots do you use Steve?
It will depend on float size. Keep adding shot until the float just starts to sink, at that point add a further 2 number 8 shot. I hope that helps. Regards, Steve.
Where was this filmed?
This was filmed at Meadow Farm Cottages Fishery in Norfolk. Regards, Steve.
@@AnglingDirectTV Thank you.
take the carp out and see how you do absolutely no thinking fishing
It's spoiling match fishing all over the country.
It's certainly a method that requires a good stock of fish however, it will work with any fish willing to feed shallow. Cheers Steve.
How deap is the swim your in
This swim is roughly 5ft deep. Regards, Steve.
Brilliant run through. Its not my idea of fishing but i totally understand why you would do it if you fish matches.

How do you know how deep to fish?
Hi Geoff, I use a standard shallow rig to find the fish, once I'm getting consistent bites at a certain depth, I switch to the overshotted rig. That's when the carnage starts. Cheers Steve.
@AnglingDirectTV thanks Steve
If overshot is not allowed Why don’t you just use a 4x18 dibber and slowly work the float through the air 👍
TRY IT ON A CANAL
You should have put some more depth on the secong rig. It is a bit shallower as the line is not sinking right to the top of the rod
I've found you don't need to be too fussy with the float sitting perfect with this style of fishing. The bites are very bold 👌
Regards
Phil,
Whats the total length of that rig please
In total my rig was 2.5ft however, this varies depending how deep you wish to fish. Regards, Steve.
many thanks@@AnglingDirectTV
Whats the fish he's catching called he saying eyes
Hi Gary, they are IDE.
Orfe
So basically it’s ledgering on the pole if you take the float off ?!
This rig isn't fished on the bottom, it is a self hooking rig for fishing shallow. It's different from ledgering on the bottom. Regards, Steve.
I have found that if the fish are that easy to catch, I get bored. I like a challenge.
The challenge is winning a match. This method is really dedicated to the anglers looking to competition fish. Regards, Steve.
In my opinion this method has killed commercial match fishing. So many moving to silver fishing.
It's a method that's almost unbeatable on certain commercials. Granted it's not for everyone however, if you want to win, this method is up there with the best. Regards, Steve.
this is ok BUT only on a fishery which is stocked with loads and loads of fish.
A well stocked fishery does help however, as long as the fish feed shallow it will work on any venue. Regards, Steve.

Looks like there's more than two number 8s on the line sorry I'm a novice
That's correct. Shot the float normally with the required amount of shot, then add 2 additional number 8 to cause the overshooting. Regards, Steve.
Bad as floating Pole whats the point.
No a method for everyone, however this does require more work and finesse than the floating pole. Regards, Steve.
