  • I bought myself a new toy and took it fishing last week. The fishing was great and I even got to feed some fish to the Sea Eagles.
    The new toy performed very well too...

    Last time I was in a canoe was when my wife and I rented one at the boatshed at Fairfield
    After paddling for a while we pulled up at the dock and the missus asks "How do we get out ?"
    I say "I'll hang onto the dock from my end, and you being in the front get out first and then you hold the canoe for me"
    All good except that as I stood up and leant over to grab the dock, the canoe swung back out because she was holding the front.
    So within seconds there were a couple of dozen people enjoying their lunch 😅 laughing hysterically at the sight of me stretched out face down over the water with strained fingers on the dock and toes hooked inside the canoe.😅

    Ah, Robbie, a suggestion about eating red fin: I used to catch them in both the east and west Kiewa gorges. Dear old mum loved to lightly poach them to take the meat from the skin and bones and turn the meat in to patties mixed with cooked spuds. Try it, she reckoned it was better than commercial salmon. Fabulous photographs of the sea eagles, birdies would love to have a copy. Could you send a copy to Bird Australia?

    What a relaxing way to spend a day! I spent my day doing the same yesterday in a local SA reservoir. Is there a reason you throw some of the reddies back even though they aren’t native? Here in SA we have to treat them the same way as we do carp, lucky they are bloody good eating! Would love to see/hear your thoughts on using the deeper in the canoe, I’m planning on getting a sounder for my kayak in the future and really curious on the comparison between a deeper and a cheap sounder. Thanks Robbie!

    • @robbiefishing
      @robbiefishing  Год назад +1

      Thanks Tyla. I wouldn't care what state I was in, ain't nobody ever going to force me to kill a redfin, it anything that I don't want to kill. I can kill carp no worries, they don't offer much, but redfin are beautiful eating and the bigger ones are proper trophies. AND.... I know that killing them makes absolutely no difference.
      The only issue with the Deeper will be that I have to attach a flexible arm, which will be easy to attach. Just a bit more fiddly having extra stuff to pack.
      With regular fish finders I think you can actually mount the transducer to the bottom of the kayak and it will shoot through the plastic, as long as it is mounted in water. Some people make a water tight compartment, mount the sounder and put the lid on it you know what I mean.
      With a Deeper there's so need for any of that handyman stuff (which I am terrible at). Haha

    • @tylalander668
      @tylalander668 Год назад +1

      @@robbiefishing I absolutely agree! But you won’t find me chucking one back in the reservoirs here after rec fishing sa did so much work to get them open to us, but if I find them in the wild I’ll be keeping your thoughts in mind for sure. I only found out about the deeper after searching through your videos (thanks for always keeping them fun, full of dad jokes and always extremely informative!) and I think that will be the option I go with for versatility over having to fit a battery and all of the wiring that goes with it. I’ll keep an eye out for when you decide to give it a try!

    That lure you found looked like a small Rapala, did you find out what it is? The Rapalas are not cheap. Have you been tempted to get something like a Hobie mirage pro fisher? No paddles and you would be very comfortable, you can even stand up in it. They are quite expensive, but would suit a man of your means.🤔

    • @robbiefishing
      @robbiefishing  Год назад

      Thanks mate. No I never did find out what it is.
      I have had fleeting thoughts of getting a Hobie, but don't want to give up my paddles. They are certainly a great boat, but are also much heavier and harder to carry around.
      Also, for fitness reasons, having paddles forces me to use my arms for exercise. As I no longer work in physical environments I need to get arm exercises anywhere I can.

      Hi Steve, they're very similar. I think the in camera image stabilisation made it look smoother than it actually was. Haha

    Hi Robbie, love your videos. Just wondering why you kill the fish through suffocation in the eskie? I’ve read that brain spikes are more humane and that suffocation reduces the taste of the fish.

      Thanks so much Asher. I actually kill them as quickly and humanely as possible before I put them in the eski, but I try to keep it off camera as RUclips gets a bit funny about that kind of stuff.
      I usually stick my fingers under their gills and bend their neck back until it snaps. Takes about 1 second and their dead.
